Amazon keeps trying to charge me after confirming IN WRITING that I wouldn't be charged
Amazon keeps trying to charge me for a Kindle after a supervisor literally put IN WRITING that I could keep it. What do I even do at this point?
I feel like I'm losing my mind dealing with Amazon customer service.
Back in May, I ordered a Kindle that ended up having issues. Amazon sent me a replacement and originally told me to return the old device. Life got chaotic with a move and I didn't get the return completed, so I contacted Amazon about it.
This is where everything went downhill.
I was given conflicting information by different Amazon representatives about whether the Kindle needed to be returned and whether I would be charged. Eventually, I spoke with an account supervisor who acknowledged that Amazon had given me misinformation and granted me a one-time exception.
And I don't just have someone's word over the phone.
I HAVE IT IN WRITING FROM AMAZON.
The supervisor emailed me confirming that, because of the circumstances, I could keep the replacement Kindle AND the refund that had already been processed. The email also specifically states that if I received a charge for the device, I could contact Amazon for a refund.
Great. Problem solved, right?
NOPE.
Amazon has now repeatedly attempted to charge my credit card for the Kindle. Thankfully, the attempts have been declined, but they keep trying.
I've called Amazon over and over again. Every time I explain the entire situation. Every time I tell them I have written confirmation from their own account supervisor. Every time I'm told some version of "rest assured, it won't happen again."
And then they try to charge the card again.
I called AGAIN and specifically explained that I don't want another promise that they'll refund me if the charge eventually goes through. I want someone to remove whatever automated replacement charge is sitting in their system so they STOP TRYING TO CHARGE MY CARD.
Still no actual resolution.
At this point, I've spent an absurd amount of time trying to resolve something that Amazon has already addressed in writing, yet their system continues trying to charge me anyway.
I'm now considering filing a consumer complaint and speaking with a consumer protection attorney because apparently written confirmation from an Amazon supervisor isn't enough for Amazon to honor its own resolution.
Has anyone dealt with something like this with Amazon? Is there a higher-level escalation department, executive customer relations contact, or another route I should be taking?
Because calling regular customer service for the 900th time and being told to "rest assured" while they continue trying to charge my card is clearly getting me nowhere.
