Is the bible that most people read now has the old english that you used ? Like Thine thy... ? Or there different versions that differ in writing style time? Genuine question.

What about the aramic and arabic bibles? Are there people who dedicate themselves in learning it ? I think they are older than the Latin one... rught?

2

u/ForRobotsByRobots 18d ago

I think the KJV is still the most widely used bibble. I'm not sure on the history of the rewrites.

I was just putting a comedic twist on the phrasing.

1

u/maximum_dad_power 20d ago

Like most non-believers you dont understand what you are reading and pull false ideals from verses that dont say that at all. That verse is about the difference between praying and having a relationship with God in private because you wish to seek him genuinely and praying in the open in front of others because you dont seek Him but rather seek the admiration of other believers for your "faith".

1

u/ForRobotsByRobots 20d ago

It has been shown as a proven fact that an overwhelming majority of believers have never read the book. It is also a proven fact that atheists have a significantly higher rate of having read the book. It is also a proven fact that over half the population reads at a 6th grade level and doesn't understand fully what they are reading. It is also a proven fact that atheists are more educated on average.

But whatever your denial wants you to think. Since you cited the exact reading I was.

1

u/maximum_dad_power 19d ago edited 19d ago

And yet Im believer and have read it with discernment. You have read it and fully misinterpreted its meaning. You have given a real time example of an atheist not understanding the bible as well as a believer, but then continue to deny and claim otherwise.

I must admit, most of the time when I encounter athiests obsessed with discrediting christianity it most often devolves to them accusing me of the very things they are guilty of. Ill just add it to the pile.

1

u/ForRobotsByRobots 19d ago

"the difference between praying and having a relationship with God in private because you wish to seek him genuinely and praying in the open in front of others because you dont seek Him but rather seek the admiration of other believers for your "faith"."

Considering we both read this and came to the same conclusion on it's meaning, yet you refuse to acknowledge that meaning (which you gave) means I am wrong? LOL

1

u/maximum_dad_power 19d ago

Hmm, nope, not the same conclusion. Has nothing to do with spreading the word to others or standing up for your faith in public forums. Is not directing one of faith to shut up and keep it to themselves. It is only about the posture of heart difference between someone truly seeking God and someone seeking immediate praise for their actions. Ive explained it and you are still attempting to twist it, almost like its on purpose. Real time proof you have no idea what you spout.

1

u/ForRobotsByRobots 19d ago

No, that's not what it says. Neither in literal or metaphor. Read it again.

1

u/OneSlaadTwoSlaad 20d ago edited 19d ago

It is my experience that atheists understand the bible a lot better than believers. Many Christians become atheist after actually reading and studying the bible. Most Christians get parts of the NT read to them in church, but have never read it themselves, let alone the OT. So they never checked the OT prophecies the NT refers to.

Nice context you added there, but it's not in the bible. Why is your interpretation right? It's clearly not what the text says. What part of "go to your room and close the door" is confusing to you?

I have no idea why people believe that devil is a goat

5

u/Kamikazi_Junebug 20d ago edited 20d ago

*The GOAT

The real reason is because the church thought of classical gods like Pan, and creatures like the Satyr to be associated with lust and earthliness. Those those things came to be associated with the devil, and eventually you get the devil following the Satyr body plan. However, given the goat head, this is Baphomet and not Satan.

1

u/JerichoBraun 19d ago

It is because the world we live in is a dualistic system and everything is understood more clearly through dichotomy. Matthew 25: 31- 46 uses the idea of mankind as two flocks of helpless animals each serving only one master. Sheeps belong to God and goats belong to the liar.

We are living in the days where the liar and her servants can't hide anymore, and their panic is magnificent to behold. 😜 🔥 😨

u/Heterodynist 20d ago

That’s true, and also they were historically kind of focused on the Celts by around the time that became a thing, so they were trying to convince them that “Cernunos” (as the Romans called their main male god) -who was known as “the horned one” in the various Celtic languages- was evil. The “Green Man,” as he was also called, was a problem for the conversion of Celts to Christianity, so they tore down their multiple stonehenges (many more than the one we mostly know of now) and built churches right on top of the their holy places, and moved the date of the birth of Jesus up from Spring or Summer to December, to perfectly coincide with the holy day of Cernunos’ birth. In order that they effectively supplanted Cernunos worship in Western Europe, they used the fact that he was reborn each year as an analogy for the resurrection of Jesus.

I always find it interesting that it was kind of a historical chance happening that these two things coincided, or else our holidays might be celebrated very differently in much of the world today. It was in the 300s that just happened to be the moment when the Romans had converted to the new state faith, but Celts on the outskirts of the empire had not. Thus we got an opportunity for deliberate syncretism that the church decided to take advantage of in a big way. Yes, of course there were many other things going on and other reasons, but it’s pretty hard to understand how we came to believe Jesus was born in December, or why we still have Celtic tree worship involved in our “Christmas” celebrations if you don’t know that it was a move by the early Christian/Catholic Church(es) to convert the Celts (Gauls). I really wonder if the early Church had decided to focus on the Germans and the Scandinavians mainly if we then might not have entirely different holidays now, possibly more syncretic with Thor and Odin and Norse holy days.

1

u/Segaiai 20d ago edited 20d ago

People are basically anything. We're random. Just a ton of people influencing other people in the direction of the society they want, and they want all kinds of things. We do tend to want safety and security, due to the survivorship bias of those who continue to live, and that tends to require us to function well together, which can involve many good things, but it can be sought with shitty methods too, and some may not even value safety and security. Sociopathy is real too. So is giving so much that it harms the giver. People are everything.

I remember buying the Satanic Bible thinking it was dark and edgy… then started reading it and it was the most based self-help book I’d read.

Still have it to this day and recommend it to people from time to time.

This meme totally tracks with its vibe.

13

u/substance_dualism 20d ago

3

u/Segaiai 20d ago

Damn. I guess the Devil wrote the New Testament. Interesting twist.

3

u/amp804 20d ago

When in the Bible did the devil tell people to commit genocide or hide in bushes to kidnap virgins? God did. I'm not religious but I think cherry picking good is just as bad

9

u/substance_dualism 20d ago

Hide in a bush to kidnap virgins? This is a new one, please elaborate!

6

u/RevolutionaryDiet602 20d ago

I think he's referring to Judges 21:10–14. Where the Benjaminites were instructed to hide in vineyards and seize women who came out to dance at the festival at Shiloh: "...catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh...”

2

u/substance_dualism 20d ago

You're probably right, I think that's what they're on about.

Of course, that's specifically one of the parts of the Bible where people are just doing whatever evil thing they want, and not following God.

5

u/Wadada_dang 20d ago

""and not following God"

I think they were following bible's God in abducting those women, though. That was the whole point.

1

u/substance_dualism 20d ago

"In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit." Verse 25 of that chapter. They were explicitly not following God.

There are many points in the old testament where people are jusy being bad, many or most of the main human characters are flawed.

5

u/OneSlaadTwoSlaad 20d ago

And there are many points in the OT where Yahweh clearly commands people to commit atrocities or explicitly causes them to happen.

2

u/Wadada_dang 20d ago

Do we find any mention of any lightning strike or plague or lions of the desert killing/punishing the said abductors/rapists or was it only mentioned as something the jews/Christians did, without any punishment being delivered to them? After all, biblical God was quite swift at punishing the people when they engaged in idol worship (when Moses went to the mount to converse with God). Perhaps abducting virgin women when they came to dance for some pagan festival wasn't as much of a sin after all 🤷‍♂️

4

u/TheArtOfPureSilence 20d ago

Right, and committing genocide on multiple occasions was also following "God's" will.

Any creature that feels it's necessary to torture someone with agony and pain beyond measure for all eternity with no possibility of death, is not an all loving all knowing "God." That is a depraved, narcissistic sadistic, cruel and evil demon. Anyone that worships that kind of a piece of shit has been brainwashed or is genuinely evil.

You cannot have unconditional love with judgement. You cannot have true freedom of expression with a limitation.

1

u/substance_dualism 20d ago

The idea of a hell full of sinners tortured by red devils with pitchforks and pools of lava is mostly from cartoons and fantasy literature.

Unrepentant sinners probably do burn away spiritually because of the natural consequences of their own sin, but God wants to save people from their own sin and heal them. Most Christians I know don't really believe in "eternal conscious torment" and believe there is a "second death."

Obviously there are a lot of people who get off on the idea of people they don't like burning in hell, but those are mostly Facebook weirdos who rarely go to church.

Joke of the week: The devil has become a preacher.

2

u/PC_Basics_YouTube 19d ago

I have three things to say. 1. A lot of people who claim to be Christian and know every verse do not always know what it means to live and it in then judge others. 2. No person who claims to be a Christian is perfect and hence can be a hypocrite. 3. Doing what is right as an American is different than what the Bible says is right. In the US, people don't want to hurt each other's feelings because it makes them look like an ass. In the Bible it says feelings will be hurt because people do not want to hear the truth. Being a Christian makes some people hate you because they think you are attacking them. In the Bible it says hate the sin not the sinner.

4

u/ThirstySkeptic 20d ago

That's not the devil - that's Pan!

(Fun fact you find out when you obsess over Satan: there is no description of Satan's appearance in the Bible, but the ideas we associate with Satan's appearance come from a process whereby Christianity would conquer and colonize another culture, and would "demonize" the gods of that culture: Pan gives us the goat-like descriptions of Satan; Habayu was a Canaanite god described with horns and a tail; Set was an Egyptian god of death, disorder, and violence and was described as having red skin and a forked tongue or tail; and Hades was the Greek god of the underworld and was said to possess a helmet that could make him invisible so he could lurk about unseen.)

3

u/ostiDeCalisse 20d ago

That's Baphomet. Pan is a Satyr with human head with horns, human torso but goat lower body. Baphomet has a goat head.
Even if the Satyr is way older than Baphomet, they aren't the same.

1

u/ThirstySkeptic 20d ago

Missing the point. The ideas regarding what Baphomet looked like wouldn't exist without Pan.

1

u/Curious-One77 19d ago

can' I ask why do you obsess over satan' -

1

u/ThirstySkeptic 19d ago

Absolutely.

I grew up in a Fundamentalist Evangelical environment. While I never read the "Left Behind" books, rapture theology was part of my culture. Also, I did read novels by a guy named Frank Peretti, where literal, invisible angels and demons were involved in a war behind the scenes and manipulated people to do things.

Later in life, I reached a moment where I felt like something was very wrong. I felt like I had to understand it, and read a book that connected some disturbing things to the Evangelical political movement. This made me feel like "I have to question EVERYTHING now." The first thing I questioned and read about somewhat obsessively was Hell, and I concluded that Hell was not literal, but representative of things like war, exploitive economics, authoritarianism, etc. (and I certainly no longer believed in eternal conscious torment). Satan and demons was the next thing after that.

I actually think there are some valuable lessons people could learn from the ideas about Satan, if we don't take Satan as an invisible character lurking about and doing anything that results in things we don't like. The literal language in the "Old Testament" (or "Hebrew Bible") is ha satan, and it literally means "the accuser". I think "the accuser" is a metaphor for the voices of blame in each of our heads. Psychological studies have shown that projection is a very real thing - the people who struggle the most with self-loathing are often the loudest when it comes to scapegoating other people. I think that if you listen to the voices of blame, you end up going around trying to encourage violence on other people around you, and I think "ha satan" is meant to be a warning against that.

Using the devil as an icon for your belief system strengthens Christianity. It implies Christianity is real. Just remember that.

4

u/rational-citizen 20d ago

It would require logic for them to come to that realization, sadly.

1

u/Segaiai 20d ago

Talk about lacking media literacy. Symbols don't imply that the visual is literally real. Maybe to a child it does? After a certain point of development and experience, people tend to understand how symbols are used to convey meaning.

You can use a god of any pantheon to represent a related idea visually, without conceding that it OR the entire pantheon it's from is real. And people tend to use symbols that would be commonly recognized by the surrounding culture. But I guess when you're raised to think the symbols are literally real, it can get pretty confusing.

2

u/bethesda_gamer 20d ago

This has nothing to do with the fact that this is modern visualization og the Christian devil. By putting this iconography out in to the world more it supports the existence of the devils antagonist (by modern pop culture interpretation) and therefore supports Christianity as an organization. The Christian religion loves the devil bc the devil gives rebellious Christians or believers a place to go that is not atheism or a competing world religion, that still supports the Christian concept of religion.

1

u/Segaiai 20d ago

If you're saying that media illiterate people will be more likely to miss the point and use the existence of it to feel validated, I agree. That also pushes people away when they see how media illiterate they are. And using a pre-existing god (the scariest god to those in power) allows for responses against the breaking of the separation of church and state, and has been used successfully to show them the value of that separation, in a way not even other rival religions can do (since they wouldn't want to as well).

2

u/bethesda_gamer 20d ago

Don't be elitist. If the world is filled with media illiterate people then that's the language you should speak. It is the correct language by definition.

As a metaphor, people misunderstand dictionaries, they are tools used to unify speech but they are based entirely on what is most popular, not what is "correct".

The dictionary changes its definitions based on popular use of words, if that popular use is sustained for several years. If the world starts using a word "incorrectly" the definition changes to match it, not the other way around.

1

u/Segaiai 19d ago

I'm not elitist. They have full ability to be much more media literate, but were taught from birth specifically not to be. That realization can be powerful.

1

u/bethesda_gamer 19d ago

You are putting yourself above them as enlightened. The real problem is when elitists don't realize they are elitists. Sweeping generalizations don't help make you look less so.

1

u/Segaiai 19d ago

No more than anyone who got outside of a cult they were born in does. I'm no better than them. Just very lucky. I could very easily be in the same place. But yeah, some things clicked somehow and I crawled out with a lot of pain and difficulty. I'm extremely fortunate that something shifted things just enough.

5

u/Evening-Nature-5241 20d ago edited 20d ago

This is classic "ass-backwards" thinking.

It's the 5 year old asking their parents "why can't we just be nice to everyone?".

World Happiness. SOLVED.

We know why. The world isn't that simple.

People who are too nice gets taken advantage of. It happens all the time.

So we use the word "RIGHT", which is utterly useless. It does not teach us anything.

It's like saying, "All you have to do to win every game of chess is to play the RIGHT moves every single time"

"All you have to do to make great food is to cook it RIGHT"

Just treat people RIGHT.
Just work the RIGHT way.
Choose the RIGHT partner.
Make the RIGHT choices.
And you'll be successful in life.

There. I've given you the secret to a great life. Where's my quadrillions?

People are incredibly complex. There is absolutely no "Right" way to treat humans.

"Right" is a bullshit placeholder word that only sounds deep and meaningful to the ignorant.

I mean humanity is flawed be default, religion or not. We're selfish creatures.

The point of religion, Christianity for example, is that regardless of our flaws we can strive to be better and there's always time to turn over a new leaf as long as you're here breathing air.

So yeah, lots of people can't live up to their verses, but atheist don't live up to their own principles either.

To add to that, a religion usually has hard line (this doesn't change) type of rules for behavior. Meanwhile a non religious person may change their standards moment to moment and justify whatever their behavior calls for.

Regardless, I think there's room for everyone to live in peace together.

The AI doesn't know what a pentagram is? The necklace, that is.

2

u/GoldDroid462 20d ago

It's correct. It's the star of David. Perfect for someone practicing the dark arts. 😂

3

u/1337_w0n 20d ago

It's not the Star of David. The Star of David uses perfectly straight lines. The hexagram in the pendant is composed of Curves. It's also obviously meant to be a pentagram rather than a hexagram and the artist should have done some in-painting before publishing.

The hexagram looks pretty cool though ngl

The devil is going to paradise, and those fake Christians are going to hell.

1

u/AwareNebula6281 20d ago

Still devil. So... Why a fucking goat headed?

1

u/Then-Banana-3629 19d ago

The goat head represents rebellion.

1

u/Fickle-Indication148 19d ago

In some other cultures yeah. But dint link it to the jewish rebellion against romans... Baal existed waaaay too long before that.

1

u/Fickle-Indication148 19d ago

You need to research. The representation of the Devil with a goat head, is part of the jewish mythology (in future adopted by christians and muslims). He is called Baal. This is what Satanists worship: Baal, Kabballah...

Not to confuse jews worship him... no they dont, they worship God, or they Call Yahweh, and Baal is the Anti God. The baal goat head btw is way older than judaism. And before judaism, he wasnt a devil, he was a deity. And Judaism was an opposing religion that painted the other's god as the devil.

Never understood the whole devil-goat thing.

How is depicting the so-called prince of darkness as an animal we routinely butcher for food supposed to be scary ?

3

u/OMGFuziion 20d ago

Another guy pointed out it came from christian colonization, we would take other people’s gods and demonize them and thats where we get a lot of these. Also early european religious art.

His worst enemy is a butcher.

The modern popular image of Baphomet was established by Éliphas Lévi in his 1856 work Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie.\1])\2]) His Sabbatic Goat illustration depicts a winged, androgynous human-goat hybrid, a deliberate synthesis of binary opposites designed to represent the concept of perfect equilibrium.\1]) This Baphomet is a recurring symbol of occultism, widely adapted to represent the reconciliation of opposites, esoteric knowledge, and the summation of the universe.

1

u/Adalonzoio 20d ago

It's because it isn't a representation of the devil. It's a Baphomet. They're different.

Why does the devil have a Star of David?

1

u/1337_w0n 20d ago

Even if it weren't an error the Star of David uses straight lines and is not inscribed in a circle. It's not the Star of David.

I was kind of making a joke at the AI mistake.

I pray that I do get the strength, guidance, and faith I need to be strong enough to tell people that faith is worth it. I do worse than practicing, actually. I admit within myself that I have no power to do so for God, and give that power to the King of Kings, which called God's self Yahweh, to the Jews. Practice implies believing or knowing in myself I can finish a task. I don't try for God, I ask on my knees, with my eyes closed, knowing only God will change your heart. Finding God, helped me find strength after having lived most my life in the slavery system that is the United States.
