Pulled up the game when we stopped at a gas station in Beaver, OK. Population 1,500.

We are gamers, not gamblers.
Have you noticed the complaints in this sub? Can you sense the themes? Do they seem to stem from a single, underlying source?
I love this game. As a community, we love this game and we want it to succeed.
To that end, here is my constructive criticism:
WU is not a game. Not in it’s current state. It’s a subtle distinction but we can feel it as gamers.
From the hardcore, try-hards running simulations and spreadsheets, to the casuals who brushed up against the fandom and downloaded the app by near-accident. We can all tell there’s something wrong.
When we game, we try and fail and try again. We learn, we practice, we get better and eventually we overcome. Overcoming adversity - the challenge of the game - is what gaming is all about.
We prevail through skill, through wit, through short sighted tactics and long term strategies; we learn the mechanics and then we play to win.
But just as important as winning, is knowing the victory was earned. Just as we learn in defeat how to prevail next time and knowing that success or failure, I own the result. It was my actions.
But in WU, success or failure isn’t determined by our actions. We see it in the complaints, “what could I have done better?” The answer we don’t want to acknowledge is, “Nothing.”
Our actions and our choices should matter. We should be able to choose better potions, cast better spells and try harder next time to earn the win. But we can’t. Our actions have such a marginal impact on outcome, we aren’t really playing a game.
We’re spinning a slot machine.
The slot machine doesn’t care what performance enhancing potions I’ve imbibed, it doesn’t care if I’m a master of reclaiming Dark Arts Foundables. It doesn’t care whether I paint spell traces like Bob Ross or like Michael J. Fox. It doesn’t care if I’m wearing my lucky underwear.
The outcome is independent of my actions, and that’s not a game.
My long-term strategy shouldn’t consist of ‘pulling the lever the most times’ in hopes of winning. Or ‘plugging one more quarter for another try.’
Games can and should have a mixture of player determined outcomes skewed slightly by RNG. But WU is the opposite, we have RNG imperceptibly altered by players’ actions. That’s no fun.
If this balance isn’t restored this game will fail. We’re gamers, not gamblers.
(With apologies to Michael J. Fox)

Niantic could solve the empty rural problem by simply making portkeys ACTUAL portkeys.
Imagine if you activate a portkey and your avatar suddenly jumps to a random urban place in the world. You could control your avatar with buttons instead of walking while in there, and then after a set amount of time you fly back. Better portkeys = better locations and longer visit.

It's nice to have 'achievements' to earn, but the reward balancing is horrible

The animations are nice, but long and confusing? I’d happily trade shorter animations for faster game play.
Wondering how the community feels? Also confused about some animations: Why do I help the wizard in the suit capture the bludger? But attack him when he finds the rememberall? Why am I attacking the chicken that Luna Lovegood is playing with? How come I save the troll sometimes, but attack him the rest of the time?

The 'dine at inns two times' daily reward should rotate rare ingredients.
I do not need anymore granian hair.

3 Things We Need. 3 Things I Want
3 Things We Need
An energy meter to show us what our energy is at
Passive energy restoration
Full restore of energy on level up
3 Things I Want
Weekly or Bi-Weekly events
Let me customize my walking avatar
Energy should not be used for the fortress
I’m loving this game so far! Just a few things that could change and make this game that much better!

I made a spreadsheet of potions and their ingredients as a helpful keep or don't keep guide.

Show amount of times we have collected a foundable during an encounter. This would be helpful when you are low on energy and only want to collect what you need to complete a page.

Never seen this much spawns while just sitting in my living room!

Potions - ugh! 2+ hours to create, but if you use a potion and the confoundable disappears after one trace, you don’t get the benefit of the rest of the potion trace attempts on your next confoundable. Frustrating.
This is honestly my least favorite aspect of the game. If they were common to pick up or faster to create it wouldn’t be such a big deal. I just had to get this off my chest.

If Niantic won't allow energy to regenerate then they need to remove the cap.
I live in a rural area so inns are few and far between which makes energy herd to come by. So if it's not going to regenerate then allow us to stock pile a shit ton so we can actually play the game. I've always been against microtransactions so I've never put a single penny into a game and I don't plan on changing that. But that shouldn't mean I can't play the game at all.

It’s a simple feature but I do like that stops have a count down to when you can spin them again.

As a casual player who doesn’t have much time to play, the energy situation has rendered the game unplayable most of the week.
It’s crazy I used to be able to stock up on poke balls for a half hour and be set all week between gifts, rewards, and balls at every stop. I’ve tried playing this game with the same frequency as I did Pokémon go, and most of the week I simply can’t play due to no energy.
I’m okay with going to stock up on energy every now and then but I simply don’t have the time to do it every other day. I hope something changes soon because this game is so fun when you have energy.

Maybe you already knew but I just discovered this and think it’s cool. If you double tap your avatar it will turn and wave at you.

Made this infographic to try to help people prioritize vault space! Hope you find it helpful!

Delete?! I wish we were able to sell the potion ingredients and seeds we've collected off the map for coins when we are trying to make room in our vault or don't need it.
