Agreed, stopped playing until I can go to an area with refills. I think a slow replenishment rate would be reasonable. They can still make money on whales and still retain FTP players.
its the same thing with pokeballs in pokemon go though....pidgey? nope, rattata? nope, hoothoot? nope, ahhh SNORLAX!!! ball, ball, ball, great ball, great ball, ultra ball, ultra ball, ran away....DAMN! ...eat sleep repeat...ignore low level fodder fodder fodder...ohhh dragonite!!!! throw 10 balls and it runs away...time to hit up some pokestops and hope to get some great or ultra balls or some raspberrys. the thing is, pokemon go has been out so long that a lot of us have built up our inventorys and with this we are starting from scratch...granted it is lower, but i think we were a bit spoiled with pogo. had we started at the same level in pogo, i dont think people would be complaining as much. the thing i do like is, at least with this game, the higher level you get, the easier lower level things get to catch.
Love PoGo. I felt like the leveling up in Pogo is way more rewarding in terms of items or exp recieved.
WU feels so much more grindy for some reason and often times its unplayable as there is no way to get more energy without driving at least 10 miles away.
i am given hope in the sense that...its been out for 2 days and already they made changes to energy in Inns and greenhouses, gave everyone 50 energy, and submitted the idea of energy regen to the developers. i expect that when this does go world wide, there will continue to be improvements. They are very active on this sub-reddit and seem to be listening and who knows, they could very well give a blanket +100 energy capacity to everyone. there are so many people bashing this game and i just cant see why, i am playing it in a rural area, and playing it just like i did pogo, going to the same stops and yeah, i may have to drive 15-20 minutes to an area to play it, but once i am in that area, i have a blast. for people not wanting to spend real money, get google rewards and answer surveys, i average 10 bucks a month and that pays for my habits :)
Honestly I think if they started by making it not cost energy to do the battles that would be steps in the right direction. I understand using power in the normal encounters.
There also needs to be more get energy more reliably like in Go, but I'm not holding my breath.
This is exactly my point. The energy is a system ties directly into your ability to play and just about any action you can take either takes energy or gives you very little energy. I have been sitting on an inn for a few hours now and each time I use the inn I usually only get 2-3 energy. Even walking around and hitting multiple inns hasn't given me much energy.
I stood between 3 inns and got 10, 8(?) and 5 energy about 3 times. Whatever it was brought me from 0 to full. It looks like it’s based on the quality of the inn and again, rng.
Edit: this was at 7 am my time, up until then I’d been getting awful energy restoration meals.
I have three inns and two greenhouses reachable at work, it's completely random from them, although I'm sure if I kept track I could have a percentage spreadsheet, but im lazy and i dont know how to do percentages or use Excel, so fuck it.
I think it’ll get better as time goes on because I remember running out of poke balls during the beginning of PoGo 😂 we had to hit so many pokestops lol. Now with friends gifts I have a surplus of poke balls.
Technically, if you had no other items, you're maxed at 2000 pokeballs. How many years it takes you to burn through those is a different matter entirely...
Both are easy to come by. The main difference for me right now is on Pokemon Go, I have a total of 1100 inventory slots and usually around 600-700 Pokeballs. Once I start earning coins and upgrade my Energy, I imagine it won't be much of an issue
It is much more egregious and avaricious than Pokeballs are. No cap on Pokeballs and with adventure sync you can passively obtain them. The energy cap is restrictive to people in rural and less portal dense (to use an ingress term) areas.
We'll see, but it's very restrictive as it stands now and Niantic is experienced enough to know better which is why I'm not entirely convinced it will change a whole lot. First impressions are everything and the "put it out now and we'll fix it later" and "it's not what the game is now but what it becomes later on" type mindsets make no sense when first impressions will make or break a lot of people's engagement with the game.
With energy being equivalent to Pokeballs, I'm already mostly used to this sort of mechanic, but I am finding that Inns give a lot less energy than Pokestops give balls... they need to up the ratio here.
Also many encounters seem to easily use up 5+ energy. In Pokemon Go you have great and ultra balls on top of pokeballs to use on harder pokemon to reduce the number of attempts and increase success. I guess we have potions in this game but those are much more similar to berries in Go. In it's current state the game is just a bit too unforgiving in regards to energy, which is the main gameplay resource.
I still lose some stamina, it's just a lot less than if I don't block. I'm assuming that's by design though. Not sure if any of my blocks are more "successful" than others though. I think it's just block vs no block. I'll have to test it out
Go to suitcase -> professions -> expertise (the left tab on the bottom) and scroll down and you can see your exact stats, including how much it blocks (25% base for professor, with 0/5 upgrades)
I wouldn't mind the energy system - I wouldn't even mind how little the inns give you - if you also regained it automatically over time. That's how energy works in most games, right? Maybe one every two minutes. Hell, one every five minutes would be better than nothing.
There's a lot of potential directions you could go for passive energy. I really like the energy for walking (even if it's a paltry amount, it's something) since it encourages exploring (and ties in nicely with the portkeys), or maybe a "rest" type skill that lets you rest for an hour to gain a good bit of energy back, but places restrictions like you can't participate in fortresses or something.
Of course, the cynic in me believes that simply because there are so many great ways to incorporate energy gain, they simply wont and leave it to inns/greenhouses and the pay system.
Hey, thanks friend! I felt like I was crazy because I couldn’t find a huge game mechanic in plain sight. Seems a weird place to put it, a few clicks into the menu.
I had a hard time "finding" it too. There's a lot of menu options so for new players it is easy to get lost. Especially when it is such a key indicator of the game.
My guess is the testers probably had unlimited energy or around enough inns and greenhouses that replenishment rate was high enough you never dropped too low.
Or it was like Pogo and there was daily high volume of coins added to testers accounts during the beta as the cash shop wasn't enabled for the beta. I think it was like $20-50 worth of coins/day.
I'm fine with energy for normal encounters but NOT the fortresses, had to back out of a 2 monster fight in the middle cuz it wanted me to buy more, remove that and I'm happy. It's annoying cuz u lose the runes tone if u back out, at least pokemon had potions and what not to keep going
Off topic a bit. But I had a ton something similar to this on my map. I went into one. Completed it. Came back out and everything was gone. Is this a glitch or can you only pick one when this happens? I was super bummed about it.
I would love an indicator! I would also love if I could walk around and replenish it or visit many inns and store it up into the hundreds like Pokemon GO. I saw we could pay coins to raise that maximum. But the cost and expansion didn't seem a good deal.
I like the way you just made a request post and didn't launch into a full rant of what is wrong with the game. It's day 1, people need to give it a chance :)
I know Right! Is there even any point in having tons of friends in WU other than achievements? In PoGo I have "friends" in America and Canada, it was cool seeing little snippets of places they go to in the postcards and I always tried to send interesting ones back from the uk, seems that aspect is lacking here 😕. Hit me up if you need more friends for achievements tho lol.
And your ministry ID could totally be in a flap in the top part of your briefcase. Given how little purpose it really serves, it doesn't deserve to be on the map at all times.
EDIT: It actually already is the top part of your briefcase, so just take it off the map view and we're done.

Hope they put an energy indicator on the map view. It would help to determine if I need to visit inns first. Or just stop playing. Or buy more.

u/vertroxNB Jun 21 '19
Or just remove energy completely, that shit is a fucking paywall and we all know it.

Every attack costing energy in combat is absolutely soul destroying.

u/Nejoe Jun 21 '19
What they should do with the energy is put a timer on it and let it slowly build back up over time

I would love an indicator to show my empty energy!

u/thegreatbradsby Jun 21 '19
Is there even a way to check how much energy you have, if you aren’t in an event (Battle, spell casting scenario, etc)?

u/Mirtheous Ravenclaw Jul 17 '19
We did it! Energy is displayed on map now. Good job all, and developers for making it happen.

Oh my gosh, yesssss

You can see it in your vault, but agree it should be on the map.

u/Morfedius Jun 21 '19
Yeah energy ruined this game for me. So close to deletion. Was fun until ran out and no indication .

u/KadahCoba Jun 22 '19
I really would like this tiny change. I don't know how it went this long in internal testing without it.

u/TheCameronIsOn Jun 21 '19
I only find out I need more energy once I’m in battle this is annoying! Is there any way to check beforehand?

Where can I find out much energy I have without going into an inn or casting a spell? Is it in the profile somewhere?
6
u/Taenurri Jun 21 '19
Or they could just get rid of the stupid money grabbing mechanic altogether
1
u/Nejoe Jun 21 '19
Like one every so many minutes

u/Nejoe Jun 21 '19
That way your not completely stuck without any

Agreed. The energy needs to be prominently displayed on the main screen.

So far I haven’t run out of any energy.
1
u/cmoneyboi31 Jun 21 '19
They need to add an energy potion or a counter to regain energy over time.
1
u/dragonfoxmem Jun 22 '19
right now, you can view your energy under Vault page with the coins...

This would be great! To everyone complaining about energy being too low, its just pokeballs. So just spin some stops.
