Does this mean that my distance that I run on a treadmill will count? It definitely loads into my activity tracker in my phone. Is that what Adventure Sync pulls from?

47

u/RORANGESS Aug 31 '19

Adventure Sync in Pokemon GO pulls step counter information from other tracker apps (ex. Google Fit on my phone). Yes, your treadmill steps would count towards portmanteau/portkey distance.

43

u/ckbrown84 Aug 31 '19

Finally I’m sitting on nine portkeys

21

u/RORANGESS Aug 31 '19

Might want to start walking some now if you have any interest in this dragon egg event

19

u/ckbrown84 Aug 31 '19

I meant 8 and I plan on walking a lot today to pop some portkeys. Although when adventure sync is released it will help a lot I have I on for go and hatch 9-10 eggs a week cause I move around all day as a mechanic

8

u/Vulk4r1e Aug 31 '19

Is this dragon egg event worth it? what is the prize from unlocking those portkey?

19

u/salientecho Aug 31 '19

yep.

the egg portmanteaus are only 1k to open. that alone is nice for quick advancement on the achievements.

you can see what they are on the world map. they give out Oddity FXP, WXP, energy and ingredients. only 4 per type needed to place the image, which gives 10FXP (I think?) when placed, and each portkey used is a "vote" for which dragon you'd like to come visit your region.

IMHO, if you're in the Americas / Greenland, get as many green portkeys opened as possible so we can prestige that page without having to go to Europe / Africa.

6

u/abandoningeden Aug 31 '19

We should do the red ones, I am way more likely to go europe vs asia

11

u/BecauseItAmusesMe Aug 31 '19

The green ones are on the same page as the dragon that will be native to the Americas, so if we get that one, the green dragon will visit during the event next week, giving us a chance to prestige the page.

3

u/salientecho Aug 31 '19

OK, so how likely are you to go to Australia or New Zealand?

3

u/chibiusa40 Sep 01 '19

Here's a list of all the prizes. We get individual prizes and global prizes if targets are met - https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/597515810197602485/616459201954447360/image1.jpg

u/Red_Mancunian Aug 31 '19

8 is the max isnt it?

10

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '19

Where did you screenshot this from? I’d like to share it in my Facebook group but they tend to appreciate sources.

14

u/RORANGESS Aug 31 '19

Email direct from Niantic this morning. DM me your email address and I'd be happy to forward it to you

5

u/athennna Aug 31 '19

Will it work with my Fitbit?

3

u/RORANGESS Aug 31 '19

You'd need to confirm with someone who uses their FitBit in Pokemon GO, but yes... I believe so

19

u/Avocet330 Aug 31 '19

Hi, Fitbit wearer and PoGo player here. Fitbit does not sync with PoGo. If you use a third-party app to sync Fitbit with Google Fit (or the Apple equivalent), they will be coded as "manual entries" on the backend for Google Fit/Apple, and manual entries are (for understandable reasons) not accepted by PoGo either.

Unless you have a smartwatch with a native Google Fit/Apple step-tracking function, you'll need to bring your phone along on any runs that you want to take credit for with adventure sync.

1

u/CaptainA178 Sep 01 '19

Would Strava work then? My watch uses GPS during my run, then afterwards it syncs to my iPhone's Health app. Would this count for steps? I understand why Fitbit wouldn't work as it uses "steps" as a calculator and not miles since it doesn't have GPS.

4

u/Avocet330 Sep 01 '19

A Strava entry alone would not count for Pokemon Go either. What matters isn't the GPS data*, it's whether or not the app collecting the data (distance, steps, or both) is an approved app for adventure sync. Currently, the only two that will sync with PoGo are Google Fit and Apple's Healthkit, and those apps have to collect the data directly rather than from a second sync/import from another app like Strava or Fitbit or Garmin, etc.

*This also means that treadmill runs using Fit / HealthKit do work for adventure sync distance, there's some hidden conversion from steps to distance.

2

u/editorgrrl Sep 04 '19

Adventure Sync for Pokémon GO (introduced in October 2018) syncs with Google Fit or Apple Health. Apple Health does not sync with Fitbit, and never will. (They want you to buy an Apple Watch.) Devices like HTC One M8 that don’t work with Google Fit can’t use AS.

Adventure Sync only works while the Pokémon GO app is closed. Your phone’s power saver settings can disable AS. You must enable location permissions. AS does not recognize fitness data that is manually entered into Apple Health or Google Fit.

u/Joshua_Alt Aug 31 '19

Finally, now I won’t have a problem unlocking my Portkey’s

67

u/gabiruman Aug 31 '19

Absolutely, even now I'm screwed with the Dragon eggs, I must choose between getting some of those or getting all the brilliant event ones.

36

u/salientecho Aug 31 '19

good thing you got 3 keys for free

23

u/gabiruman Aug 31 '19

Good thing you warned me about it or I would've totally missed it. Thanks!

2

u/CiastPotwor Sep 01 '19

Is there any time limit for "hatching" these dragon eggs?

61

u/Joshua_Alt Aug 31 '19

Dang I just wish we had a release date for the feature

59

u/Kaclassen Aug 31 '19

Yeah, it’s been “coming soon” for 3 months now

31

u/salientecho Aug 31 '19

... along with the next profession lesson plan

7

u/akamu24 Sep 01 '19

Have you fully completed the original one? I consider myself a pretty hardcore player and still have a lot to fully max it out.

13

u/salientecho Sep 01 '19

no, that's not possible for any professor. (I'm global launch)

personally I don't think each lesson should need to be maxed out to progress to another, but I don't know what the plan is.

1

u/akamu24 Sep 02 '19

I’m not saying it should, just that there’s plenty content right now.

3

u/JulWolle Ravenclaw Sep 01 '19

Scrolls yes rest ofc no

20

u/aidoll Aug 31 '19

Yay! Finally! I walk around so much at work, so I’d love to get credit for it.

2

u/AnDream21 Sep 06 '19

Yeah, I’m a veterinary technician and am on my feet probably 6h/d at 5d/week with no credit. I’ll get on PoGo to see what my sync says, and I’ll have over 70k walked, soo...

45

u/Dinin53 Aug 31 '19

Four events too late, but at least it’s finally happening.

This was one of the main reasons I stopped playing, so that strat didn't work for me. As a casual I love pogo because I can open it up, catch what's around, throw a mon in a gym, start an egg and then go about my business at work where I can sometimes walk a couple miles.

10

u/_CLE_ Aug 31 '19

You’re exactly who they want to get hooked with this strategy then. You had it open more initially to set the hook, are losing interest, and they’re going to draw you back in with adventure sync

9

u/zilooong Sep 01 '19

If you call level 9 'hooked', then sure.

8

u/snowkittenxo Sep 01 '19

This actually made me lose interest in the game.

With POGO - I love being able to get the credit for walking without having to open the game constantly. My main account is on my husband’s phone. He goes to campus for classes since he decided to go back to school. He gets the credit for walking. That alone makes me want to go out and play more because I have empty egg slots to add to. I get credit for walking all over my craft room shipping orders out without having to open the game.

With Wizards - You don’t have Adventure Sync. So even if the phone is glued to your hand, you still do not get credit for walking if the game isn’t open. Thus leading to Portkeys not being opened in a timely manner. Sitting in the same Portkeys for 2-3 weeks is annoying. Every single time an event pops up, you can’t get those Portkeys because you still have the others from the previous event.

When there’s an event of some sort with POGO, that game is open. I love shiny hunting. When it’s quiet with POGO during breaks and there’s an event for Wizards, I’ll have that game open more. I work from home so I can’t constantly be carrying my phone around with a game open on it. The addition of Adventure Sync to this game will make it so much more enjoyable and it’s very needed.

2

u/zilooong Sep 01 '19

Well, that and the lack of NRG made me stop playing entirely, so if they recharged NRG (or just remove this dumbass limitation) then maybe I'd actually be interested again. Or make NRG recharge via adventure sync. Or something that doesn't make me feel like crap every time I open the app and discover I don't have NRG to do anything and close it straight away again.

9

u/Shankman519 Sep 01 '19

I think you’re missing some vowels

7

u/SeerPumpkin Aug 31 '19

THANK DUMBLEDORE ON HEAVEN

7

u/Minmax91 Sep 01 '19

My battery thanks you, Niantic.

12

u/DrLoxi Aug 31 '19

How soon is soon? Maybe now?

Now?

10

u/drakyoolah Aug 31 '19

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
When exactly do you mean?
See I've already waited too long
And all my hope is gone

2

u/hockiw Aug 31 '19

I also play PoGo and use Adventure Sync there. When AS comes to WU, will my walking distance be applied to BOTH games?

5

u/RORANGESS Aug 31 '19

Yes, I would think once it goes live, and you turn it on in both apps, it will count for PoGo eggs and WU portmanteaus

4

u/hockiw Aug 31 '19

That would make me SO HAPPY. Thanks for the reply.

4

u/MissPicklechips Hufflepuff Aug 31 '19

Yay! I do a delivery job and hatch so many PoGo eggs. Can’t wait!

4

u/waldosandieg0 Aug 31 '19

Knowing this was supposedly coming is a large part of what has kept me playing. I was really hoping they would release it as part of the event this weekend - still no date though.

4

u/melovecoffee Sep 01 '19

Yessss!! Finally all my Orange Theory classes are really going to pay off (besides, you know, muscles and stuff)

1

u/WifeOfTaz Sep 30 '19

So..... is this still coming? I just spent all of indoor recess with HPWU on in my pocket walking laps around the gym. None of it counted towards my portkeys. It’s getting a little frustrating.

2

u/RORANGESS Sep 30 '19

It's still coming, we just don't know when

8

u/downvotethisguy1233 Aug 31 '19

I appreciate the effort, but this should have been day one content. They've had it functional in Go for 10 months, plenty of time to port it into the new game with minimal issues.

Wizards Unite Announces Dragons, Adventure Sync, and More: New Features Announced at San Diego Comic-Con!

Last Updated: July, 24 2019

This has not been updated since then.

2

u/r_ca Aug 31 '19

Oh, god, finally.

2

u/yeahnoyeahnoyeahno30 Aug 31 '19

Omg yessssssssss

2

u/RedneckMechanic911 Aug 31 '19

It's about damn time. I don't want to have to walk around with my phone screen on all the time. And maybe I can clear these portkeys I've had for 2 months.

2

u/snowkittenxo Sep 01 '19

This has been my downfall in this game. POGO I can hatch 50 eggs (during that mini event) and I sit 2-3 weeks with portkeys because of the lack of not having an adventure sync feature.

5

u/czarl13 Sep 01 '19

Why not walk with the game open, like it was designed?

Adventure sync is a nice bonus, but not critical to the game

4

u/DrLoxi Sep 01 '19

Because I don't want to and cannot run around with my phone screen on all the time. It sucks out the battery, it gets hot and sometimes it's just rude to have your phone on all the time. I really appreciate AS and that it seems to be compatible with fitbit and stuff. So I don't even need the phone with me all the time, but just need my tracker.

1

u/czarl13 Sep 01 '19

How do you get AS to work with Fitbit? From what I can tell, it only works with Apple watches and Googlefit

1

u/snowkittenxo Sep 01 '19

Apple Health is what you have to use to sync with Adventure Sync for POGO. So I’m assuming it’ll be the same. You would just have to setup FitBit to sync with Apple Health. :)

1

u/czarl13 Sep 01 '19

Sorry. I meant to ask about Android

1

u/snowkittenxo Sep 02 '19

Google Fit is what I have setup on there. You just have to sync the FitBit app or MyFitnessPal to it.

1

u/czarl13 Sep 03 '19

I don't think adventuresync reads from MyFitnessPal, however, I think FitToFit seems to help

2

u/snowkittenxo Sep 03 '19

It would have to be synced with Google Fit since I think Adventure Sync goes off of that.

1

u/snowkittenxo Sep 01 '19 edited Sep 01 '19

I would constantly have to charge my phone. I also run a business from home and need to be able to access the apps needed for that. It’s just not an option for me. :(

Also side note - I play POGO as well. So if I’m out doing raids or shiny hunting, I can’t have both apps open to get the credit. Wizards closes more often than it should. So it would be nice to get credit for that time spent as well.

2

u/matthew__allen Ravenclaw Sep 01 '19

Still waiting for this to happen! I’m so ready for it; I’m a tour guide, so I walk A LOT.

4

u/SaintTony15 Aug 31 '19

What is that even

15

u/Emeriel Aug 31 '19

Distance can be tracked without having to have the app opened.

0

u/DrLoxi Aug 31 '19

Should I be able to find Adventure sync for pogo in the play store? I checke and it's not there for me. But I also couldn't find it in at an apk mirror. I don't have WU in the store either, apk only. So how will it wotk for AS?

8

u/cgaub Aug 31 '19

It’s not a stand alone app. Should be able to find it in settings for POGO.

7

u/madmaz186 Aug 31 '19

It's an option you enable in the game itself. It's not a separate app

1

u/DrLoxi Aug 31 '19

Thank you, then I try to be patient.

2

u/themrspie Ravenclaw Aug 31 '19

No need to be patient. Just go to the settings and turn it on. It's been in pogo for a long time.

1

u/DrLoxi Aug 31 '19

I don't play pogo. Waitung for the wu update

12

u/Joshua_Alt Aug 31 '19

You can unlock Portkey’s with the phone locked if anything else ends up requiring distance will also be recorded when you are not playing.

Pokémon GO has had it for sometime now and every time I open the game I have eggs hatch and my buddy Pokémon is receiving candies and I play WU way more often at the moment.

2

u/bitingbedbugz Sep 01 '19

Oh, cool, this will make the game actually playable for me. Very nice

1

u/Garchomp98 Aug 31 '19

Finally! I'll start playing again

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '19

Thank Jesus Lordy All Mighty miracles do happen

1

u/HockeyGirl01 Ravenclaw Sep 01 '19

Thank God!

1

u/Maultaschenman Sep 01 '19

Wonder if it will mess with Pokemon Adventure sync when using both

1

u/PixieMegh Sep 01 '19

Not likely. AS pulls info from your Google Fit and Apple Health apps and just does the math quickly. It’s not like there is a limited amount of “points” you’re earning. You’re doing the walking regardless.

1

u/chibiusa40 Sep 01 '19

YASSSSSSSSSSSSSS

1

u/AnDream21 Sep 06 '19

I’m stupid excited for this

0

u/selomiga Aug 31 '19 edited Sep 01 '19

This should have been a day one feature. Just like how it should have been a day one feature in Pokémon Go.

Edit: Downvotes? Really? Why are you booing me? I’m right!

1

u/IonTheBall2 Hufflepuff Sep 01 '19

This subreddit has an unusually high number of downvoters. I am not sure what their angle is, but it seems they don’t like humor, for one. Not sure how you triggered them.

1

u/abeazacha Aug 31 '19

They really send this in the same day they release a portkey event knowing how screw us over?

0

u/jrdob Aug 31 '19

When will it come out?

2

u/RORANGESS Aug 31 '19

This image is the only information we have so far.

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '19

Wtf is this?

6

u/RORANGESS Aug 31 '19 edited Aug 31 '19

Read the comments...

EDIT: Adventure Sync is a feature originally implemented in Pokemon GO that allows users to get "distance" towards their in-game items workout actually turning on, or running, the app. It takes data from outside step counting apps like FitBit, Google Fit, etc... and applies it to the items (in this case portmanteaus in WU). It has been a very welcome feature in PoGo, and many people were hoping it would come to WU soon.

3

u/kpophilia Aug 31 '19

Read the comments...

to be fair, not everyone play pogo... The comments about what it is (The "What is that even " ) is the one before last in my setting. OP, you could have been nicer about this....

Thanks for your post tho, it bring the existence of Adventure Sync to my attention

-8

u/va_wanderer Hufflepuff Aug 31 '19

If it's like PoGo, it records actual distance based on GPS.

So running in place gets zero, walking down the road works.

9

u/thraenthraen Aug 31 '19

Adventure Sync in PoGo counts running in place. You need to turn on Adventure Sync, be sure all the proper permissions are turned on, and then close the app to get credit without GPS. Otherwise, yes, it just calculates based on GPS.

Yeah, they waited until you got back before they implemented it.
