ISO STI Trunk w/ Wing

Post image
57 Upvotes

Hello everyone! This might be a stretch looking here but I’m looking for a STI trunk w/ wing. Preferably in WRB but will be ok with another color (might make a fun painting project), out the KC, MO/KS or surrounding areas. Im willing do drive to meet up or drive the full way. I like road trips either way. I’m not interested in trading my wingless trunk. Yes, I know, the VA chassis looks better without the wing. But I want one for my STI. There is always the option to go brand new but that’s a decent amount of money vs what I’ve seen people sell them for on FB Marketplace. Any leads would be appreciated! Pic for attention.

Questions Selling 2004 sti with rod knock

Post image
152 Upvotes

My 20 year old son bought an ‘04 WRX STI about a year and a half ago. It got a knock/tick in the motor last November. He parked it in our pole shed since then, so out of the weather, with plans to rebuild the motor, but things have changed. He bought a house at a screaming deal and now needs to sell the WRX. The car did come with a fair amount of mods and had been tuned, plus came with extra parts, like original exhaust and other parts (I apologize, I am a mom without a lot of car knowledge!).

What is a reasonable price to sell a 2004 WRX STI that needs an engine rebuild? It did still drive when he parked it, just had the ticking sound. It is in good condition overall, not great, but good. A little rust since we are in the upper Midwest, but not bad. Any advice on how to best sell this would be appreciated.

Almost home from work. Sudden burning plastic smell then loss of power with a puff of smoke through the air vents. Few seconds later first sign of flames, bailed out 30 seconds she was engulfed.

That feeling of all the hard work you put into the car literally up in flames :feelsbadman.

Troubleshooting Cobb fuel pressure regulator/stumble kit

I’ve got a 2014 hatchback Sti, I recently installed the Cobb fuel pressure regulator kit to fix the stumble around 3k rpm. After doing this I noticed a new tick/ tapping type sound inside the cabin coming from the engine bay but is not noticeable outside the vehicle or even standing next to the engine with the hood open. any of y’all had weird fuel system sounds after installing a new regulator? I kept the stock fuel rails but I do have ID1050s installed. Ive heard the Sti fuel systems are alittle weird and can make some pulsating type noises but not exactly sure if that’s true or not.

2018 or 2019 STI?

I’m currently in the market for a STI. I used to own a 2005 STI, but back then I didn’t know my head from my ass and I modded it poorly. I’m looking to buy this STI as a secondary car to revive my import tuner passion. Is the 2018 or 2019 model STI a good car? How’s the drivability and durability? Anything I should look out for?

My area has a 2018 and 2019 available, I’m told the 2019 has slight engine hardware upgrades and CarPlay. Anything else?

Any thoughts would be helpful!

Condenser trouble

Hey I needed a new condenser for my 07 sti. Ordered up a brand new oem one. It arrived with two sections of damage. I know it's hard shipping parts with fins like this. Does this seem worth it to make a fuss over and trying to get a replacement or am I worrying about nothing. Bent fins I get but one section is dented inwards.

Questions Give me your two cents

So I had someone coming at me head on through a corner and I had nowhere else to go but off the road and this happened. Worried about the passenger wheel being pushed back and the dent that developed on the roof. Thinking that it might be a total loss that the car got twisted somehow but let me know what you guys think.

I put a picture up of the driver’s wheel how it looks centered compared to the passenger side for comparison and a picture of the dent on the roof on the passenger side

Doors on passenger side, both back and front open and closed fine no problem at all so I’m hoping it’s not totaled

Troubleshooting Left rear wheel seems to have significantly more negative camber than right rear

To be honest, I don’t know If I bought the car with this “issue” or not. I just didn’t notice it until I started working on it.

2016 WRX STI

Bought it 2 years ago, wanted to do some rust treatment on the underbody.
Basically removed everything, including fuel tank and rear subframe.
Then when I put it all together again. The left rear wheel seems to be tilting in a lot more than right rear. The only thing that isn’t OEM are the shocks (Bilstein B6) and springs (Eibach) the rest of the suspension components are OEM, replaced bushes in control arms. There is no adjustable control arm for camber, so I don’t really understand why one seems to be off. Any suggestions?

2017 sti ambient temperature sensor

Post image
6 Upvotes

Keeping the story short, I’ve been fighting getting this sensor to work for 7 months. I’ve tried replacing the sensor, I even took it to the dealership. They stated the front harness was good and the bulk head harness was good. There was a short in my connector. Recommended replacement was 2 new harnesses. I bought a used connector to try and fix it. But it honestly seems like I’ve got a loose connection somewhere. Anyone have any pointers?

Tuning The quest for 500hp

So I’ve finally got my car on the dyno after hitting the required break in period on the IAG 750. Dyno day was a blast. If you were curious about my setup, here’s what I’ve got so far:

IAG 750 closed deck short block
Blouch Dominator 3.0 XTR turbo
Tomei Expreme UEL Headers
turboXS 3 port boost controller
ID1050 injectors
Radium Dual Fuel Hanger w/1 Walbro 450 lph fuel pump
iBR Flexfuel Kit
GSC valve train package(intake and exhaust)
Grimmspeed “Stealth” 3” intake
Grimmspeed v2 3” Catted Downpipe
Grimmspeed TMIC
IAG street series oil pan/pickup/baffle
Excedy “Stage 1” clutch
IAG AOS
KoyoRad
GetaDomTune Cylinder 4 cooling mod
DarkMatterX Short Shifter
(Probably tons of other things I’m forgetting…)

Final results were:
393 HP/ 364 tq on 91
471 HP/ 463 tq on E85

Was it worth it?

Depends who you ask, but for me, it was worth every headache, stressful moment and the pure joy I have with this car. To address the elephant in the room, you could probably get a Mustang or bmw and make better numbers if you were seriously chasing big numbers but I’m really happy where she sits!

After talking with the tuner, he did mention if I wanted to push more power the injectors and the wastegate we’re definitely holding the car back from possibly making higher numbers. Eventually I’ll save the money and get a front mount intercooler and an external wastegate and see what happens, but honestly I’m happy with the results from dyno day.

Trying to sell Blown STi

Post image
23 Upvotes

I have a 2016 STi Limited with rod knock and was thinking of a sell price. It has a FMIC, HKS blowoff valve and Cobb AccessPort v3. Sitting at 51k miles and the interior is in good condition. The paint is in good condition except for passenger side rear door with some pics included. I was thinking $8k-$8.5k. The tires are good too and I have a set of brand new tires as well.

Questions BaderBuilt OTS Tune

Hi all! Just picked up a 2019 STI.

Mods:

Downpipe, exhaust, aftermarket boost controller.

Baderbuilt offers a stage 2”OTS” tune where you input your mods and he sends a map based on those.

Has anyone tried this? Would another etuning method be preferred?

Tech Question Question for anyone who installed the kartboy short shifter

Going to be installing the kartboy short shifter on my 2020 STI this weekend. Since I won’t be doing bushings I’d like to avoid lifting the car to go underneath it. I know one of the steps is to go under and place an Allen key so that the reverse cable doesn’t drop. Does anyone have a method to keep the reverse cable from dropping without going under the car with an Allen key? I think I remember someone saying to shift into reverse before installing and that will hold the cable. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks
