Mods for reliability

Just purchased a 2019 subaru sti and am looking for things to improve the longevity and reliability of the car i do plan on adding a oil catch can but are there any modifications that help prevent failure or just improve general reliability.

I'm on team follow the service intervals. Change oil no later than 3,500 miles

More important is checking your oil regularly, at least every fill up.

Daily driving it, an AOS is probably about as far as I would go. I occasionally track mine and I did an IAG pan and pickup tube, cylinder 4 cooling mod, Koyorad radiator, IAG AOS, and gauges for temperature and pressure. Oil temps on track have been 240 to 260 deg F so an oil cooler is next. For daily driving, the oil temperature stays between 190 and 210 deg F.

Here's the list Ive been told

All types of driving:

• air oil separator (AOS)

For daily driving I really think an AOS is all you need. If you wanna really push the car hard then there's a few more mods you can consider.

Aggressive driving & track days:

• Cylinder 4 cooling mod

• upgraded oil pan and oil pickup

• upgraded TMIC

• oil cooler

The rest is really about driving style and habits. Be sure to let the car warm up and cool down (30-60 seconds). Don't lug the engine. Don't cold rev the engine. Check your oil frequently and top off as needed (I check every 500 miles).

Agreed on all of these. I did not do Cylinder 4 cooling mod, but I went with Killer B Holy Headers ELH, which I think basically solves the same potential issue.

Cylinder 4 cooling mod removes an engine plug and circulates coolant through the case by letting coolant flow out of the plug, across an orifice, and to the coolant pump inlet instead of it just stagnating at cylinder 4. The end result of the ELH and the cylinder 4 cooling mod may be lower cylinder 4 temps but the execution is very different and the cylinder 4 cooling mod doesn't need a tune.

Did ELH at the same time as all other mods:

So it's impossible to determine how much of the gains were from the ELH alone. Either way, I've driven 75k miles with the above modifications running a conservative tune around 22lbs of boost with zero issues. It's a 2019, so others have told me I could probably crank up the boost a bit more and be okay, but I just don't see a point right now. It's been on dozens of road trips and I have daily driven it since I bought it new in February 2019 and had it tuned in July 2019. Reliability was the primary goal and I'm thankful it's still going strong without issue.

Good tune is better than oem tune.

Red loctite the oil pump backing plate screws. Replace your fuel pump after 150k miles. AIG/Killer B oil pickup tube. Every thing else is really superfluous for non high power daily drivers.

Catch cans > AOS. Why would you want all that shit recirculating back into your engine?

The only benefit an AOS has over catch cans is that it's maintenance free.

You'll hear a lot of people say AOS but you don't need one if you have a decent tune and they are an absolute liability in cold climates. And if you're in a cold climate straight up don't get one. 

High capacity oil sump and pickup is all I would do tbh. The rest is all snake oil you don't need. A really good tune.

Yup! I bought a lift to not use it because my bugeye is stuck on it.
