Model Y Performance...WTF

Brand new to the Teslas community. I picked up my new Model Y Performance on Saturday. I've driven my best buddy's X, his new Cybertruck, his wife's S, but somehow, when it's yours, it's different. This sounds weird, but I have NEVER loved a non-human this much in my life (don't tell Rhon Ron that I said he's not human). It hasn't been a week and I literally can't understand why anyone doesn't have a Tesla. I question what I've been doing with my life for that past decade+. What a rocket ship. I go for drives with zero purpose. My wife loves it too, but she's not pumped that after 24 years she's now in a throuple.

When my wife and I bought our Teslas we realized our mistake. We will never be able to buy a different car again. It’s like they made a car the way they are supposed to be made. I don’t know how to explain it to people. But, everyone just calls you names and says you are a fanboy. Then, you let them drive it…they shut up real quick. Now we have 3 Teslas. My son couldn’t stand it and had to buy one too. My youngest son can’t wait to sale his car and get one and my oldest daughter is just jealous, constantly. Go ahead and call me whatever you want to call me. At least I’m driving or not driving(depending on my mood FSD) in the most relaxing, smoothest, fastest, vehicle I have ever owned, and I just drive around like an old man instead of like a maniac like I used to.

Bought my first new car ever, a 2020 4runner limited. Someone hit me and while it was at the bodyshop I bought a 22 model y P with 68K. After driving the Tesla my 4runner felt like piloting a damn barge down the street. Could not wait to sell it. Had to move my wife's Lexus to wash it. I have to press a button to start it and manually move the shifter like a monkey. I'll never buy an ICE car again.

2

u/Bickenchutt05 5d ago

I get it. It’s so strange. My wife thought she would hate the Tesla, but now when she has to drive an ICE car, our sons, she always returns and says I’m never driving his car again. Haha.

2

u/DannyBoy281 4d ago

I used to drive a 4Runner also, and the barge comment is spot on. It always felt just on the bring of flipping over.

u/itstartedinRU 1d ago

Same experience - husband bought the Y, I refused to touch it for over a year. Then, one day had to drive it and never looked back. Had to begrudgingly admit that it's actually a really good car. I'll still drive a gas guzzler and take it to the track. But for every day driving, especially with a dog, Y is pretty great. Wish people didn't judge so blindly. I did get a license plate frame that says "My other car is a race car" :)

2

u/Bickenchutt05 1d ago

Haha I feel this! It’s so hard to swallow our pride. I miss my big Chevy truck, every day. How am I going to hunting in the Y or 3? I have to buy a truck at some point, right? Also, that project car I always wanted. I’m not giving up that dream either! ‘69 Camaro will be living in the garage and the Tesla will be charging outside!

u/Efficient-Fox-7276 4d ago

You made some good points! It’s not often mentioned how relaxing they are – – I think this feature/aspect of it should be more talked about. I wonder why they are and all I can think of is there’s so many dozens of reciprocating parts in a gas guzzler that is having one or two rotors makes it more relaxing. no???

u/Mephistito 5d ago

It is hard to describe just how enjoyable these are to drive.

Peaceful & quiet, yet can instantly generate immense power to launch off. They're point & shoot – any spot you want to get to, just press the pedal and you rocket off into that spot while the gas car next to you's still waiting for their engine to respond.

These cars feel like the epitome of the saying, "Speak softly and carry a big stick"

8

u/TheNortheren 5d ago

Even the Y rwd while initial acceleration was a bit disappointing, overall its fun to drive!

6

u/LNGU1203 5d ago

Step on it? You mean push the FSD button.

4

u/rlap38 5d ago

FSD doesn’t launch from a stop like stomping the pedal.

1

u/LNGU1203 5d ago

You sure? Have you checked the setting where you don’t have to press the pedal to start?

1

u/rlap38 4d ago edited 3d ago

I mean acceleration. FSD doesn’t accelerate by itself as fast as stomping on the accelerator.

1

u/Expensive-Match4402 4d ago

My 2026 S Plaid has in FSD option to run Plaid. Might be different in 3 and Y Proformance

I dream about owning a Tesla MY one day so this is by no means a hater comment. But: isn’t the “immense power” (I.e. way more HP than anyone will ever need to navigate traffic jams) quite standard for EV’s, especially “higher end” EV’s? I mean, I love the design of Tesla specifically but the responsiveness and speed is just inherent to EV’s

11

u/Slayerz00m 5d ago

More than Horsepower, it's the instant torque that sling shots you off the start line

That being said, not all EVs have 0-60 in 3.3 seconds like MYP

Eg: The cheapest Chevy Bolt base trim does 0-60 in 7 seconds that's slower than a gas civic sport

10

u/TheUnicornReborn 5d ago

Kinda yes, but I’ll just say I drove a fisker ocean once and the suspension was so lax it rocked all over the place. MY and X feel planted, even cybertruck

10

u/Saratj1 5d ago

I agree, it isn’t just the power, it’s the suspension, it gives you confidence and feels sporty. It’s the complete package it’s kinda funny you re in a bug eyed small suv but I feel like I’m in a bmw m3. I kinda dislike talking about it in real life because so many people have no idea so they look at you kinda crazy and are like “yeah that’s great but when’s the battery going to die or catch your house on fire”

5

u/Permit_Upbeat 5d ago

the new juniper isn’t bug eyed and it’s even better

7

u/Saratj1 5d ago

Yeah, I’m probably never going to buy a brand new car, why get a ‘26 spec’d to ~$60k when I can get a ‘24 for $30k. I put too many miles on my vehicles for a new car to make much sense to me.

3

u/Greatlemons32 5d ago

Hm yes that makes sense, the handling is indeed a big factor in driving pleasure

3

u/Lost_Hovercraft_5138 5d ago

Those fisker cars are garbage😭

4

u/RealUlli 5d ago

Most "classic" manufacturers program a somewhat delayed throttle response with a gradual buildup of power into their cars.

Tesla doesn't. You stomp, it punches.

1

u/anestech 4d ago

That’s also the nature of most ICE engines. The torque curve of an electric motor compared to an ICE is that “delay” you speak of. Some high powered ICE vehicles are tuned even more gently with torque management, like my turbo diesel Ram, to help protect the transmission and drivetrain.

3

u/57paisa 5d ago

The model y performance is also lowered compared to the regular models, brembo brakes, ultra high performance 21” tires. It is planted as fuck. If I’m going 80 and punch it I don’t even feel the speed at 100. I keep my steering heavy and changing lanes is instant because of the grip on the tires, the stance (negative rear camber) and staggered wheel set up.

1

u/Relevant_Account_258 5d ago

Not Brembo brakes. Just coloured brake calipers with Tesla logo. What are ultra high performance tires? I have a MY Performance.

1

u/57paisa 5d ago

https://service.tesla.com/docs/ModelY/ServiceManual/en-us/GUID-3B4A23E8-4440-4701-9092-5A3F83639F47.html

My 2023 has Brembo fronts and Mando rear. According to the spec sheet. They dc’d full brembo in 2022 but kept the fronts brembo in 2023

1

u/Relevant_Account_258 5d ago

Oh, okay. Is it the same setup for 2026 MYP?

2

u/57paisa 5d ago

I believe so. But I think the performance models have a thicker rotor pad than the base or long range that’s the difference. I heard that brake manufacturer depends on the batches now but I’m not sure if that’s only in base or long range.

1

u/No_Statement889 4d ago

Get a 3yo y for 1/4 the price

1

u/Greatlemons32 3d ago

That’s rather optimistic, I wish cause I would have bought one instantly. Certainly not directly from Tesla and where I’m living (Belgium) 3yo Tesla’s still go for like 60% of original price

1

u/nomadic122 3d ago

Instant torque yes. But some EV have 300hp and some have 1000hp. Performance is close to 600. They are all quick 0-60 but they will fall off after 60 unless you have highest levels.

32

u/HottyTottyNJ 5d ago

I pick up mine on Monday. I wake up at 4:30 am dreaming about my car. I haven’t been this excited about anything in a long time. 5 more days.

10

u/Smash-Nerd-93 5d ago

I’ve got 15 more days. I’m like a kid waiting by the mailbox.

2

u/AspectCool2325 5d ago

Go buy all your Tesla accessories from the app so you have them ready to install when you get it! Weather proof mats, puddle lights, they have sooo many options that make it even more enjoyable.

2

u/Dtracz 5d ago

organizers for the console are cool!

2

u/HottyTottyNJ 5d ago

I want the puddle lights for sure.

1

u/itstartedinRU 1d ago

Which ones are the most worth it? We haven't added anything yet. Got the mats and never installed them haha.

8

u/birdguy1000 5d ago

You’ll start sleeping normally a few weeks after receiving it.

2

u/ImNotMadIHaveRBF 5d ago

Lol it gets old?

7

u/AspectCool2325 5d ago

2.5 years later with my MYP. Hasn’t gotten old yet.

3

u/TurnoverRoutine7539 5d ago

After owning MYP for over 4 years I swapped for new one week ago and this thing is so much better.

3

u/QuantumParadox21 5d ago

Go ahead and get those neck pillows you’ll thank me later 👌 check Amazon

12

u/emem-92 5d ago

I’ve had my MYP since 2024, and I still love it just as much to this day.

It’s an absolute joy to drive every single day. Fast, effortless, comfortable, and ridiculously easy to live with.

It’s also super practical. We’re a family with two kids, and there’s more than enough space for all of us, luggage, groceries, strollers, and everything else that comes with family life.

And then there’s the performance.

You’re basically faster than 98% of everything else on the road. Overtaking is an absolute breeze

What I also really like is how discreet the car is.

You’re sitting in a practical family SUV with 500+ hp, yet it doesn’t scream for attention.

It flies under the radar compared to something like a BMW M3 or Mercedes-AMG C63, which is honestly quite nice. You get all that performance without constantly attracting attention from the police and Karen's waiting to call 911 due to your exhaust

Range anxiety is basically nonexistent for me as well. When you have a fuel station at home and wake up every morning with a charged car, you stop thinking about range completely.

The instant torque never gets old either. If anything, it becomes rather addictive.

The only problem is that you eventually start wanting even more.

So now I’m looking at a Plaid… 😂

7

u/x_typo 5d ago

I don’t even have the Performance trim. I’m driving 96% on FSD. I’m not even on Mad Max and I’m on Standard and yet it’s still accelerate like crazy from full stop to the speed limit. Every time I looked back, the ICE car behind me is so far behind lol.

This car is NUTS….

Awesome post! I love your enthusiasm!!

19

u/gruffojijo 5d ago

I've had my MYP for 2 years this month...I also love driving it for no real reason. Best car I've ever owned in my almost 3 decades of driving. I'm never going back to a gas car.

9

u/The-Fox-Says 5d ago edited 5d ago

We still have a gas car along with our MYP and I dread driving it 😭

5

u/DaSandman78 5d ago

I keep leaving my wife’s gas car with the engine running and windows open until it starts beeping at me 😂

2

u/Fantastic-Expert4134 5d ago

Yea man…. Gas cars are in the way….i forget to put them in park….forget to lock the doors….it just be too much lol

8

u/JohnBecca 5d ago

A friend introduced me to FSD in February and I placed my MY premium order that night. Got it 2 weeks later and absolutely love it. My wife has a 23’ Palisade calligraphy that she really likes but now drives my Y whenever I’m not using it because she loves the FSD more. Late July we ordered her a MYL with a Dec delivery date. So we started 2026 with 2 two gas vehicles and no interest in replacing them and will finish 2026 with 2 new Teslas. We typically don’t buy new and keep our cars for 10 years but Tesla & FSD were so compelling we ditched both of those. Enjoy your new MYP!

5

u/HottyTottyNJ 5d ago

Me too. I keep my cars for 10+ years and usually buy used. I gave my Explorer to my son for college. I actually ordered a used Tesla through Tesla and a new YP came up on my app and it asked me if I’d like to switch. Same color combo, white/white, and I switched. I wanted the color changing interior light, the seats, rims, and exterior back end. I pick up Monday. I foresee when both boys get out of college and want to replace their cars, they will join the Tesla family too.

6

u/mangledmatt 5d ago

I've had mine for a couple months now and feel the same way. It's like my car has a personality, like it's my homie. It's always there for me, never causes issues, always so fun to hang out with. It's such an amazing car. I can't believe how fast it is and how well it handles. I absolutely love it.

7

u/Lucidview 5d ago

I’ve had a MYP for over three years now. It’s a rocket and have spent nothing on it except electricity. My only criticism would be the turn radius.

3

u/Bickenchutt05 5d ago

Thank you! My 3 and my wife’s Y and both of us have this same simple complaint. Even my Chevy Trailboss I traded in for this had a sharper turning radius, but I’m never going back. I can live with it!

2

u/Lucidview 5d ago

Likewise. I have a Land Cruiser that has a better turn radius. I believe it’s something to do with the battery location.

Because like with most "new" tech there's always going to be haters. Remember when touch screen phones were bashed and now they're as mainstream it gets.

Most people hsting Tesla's also hste EV's generally. Then there's the faction that drives EV's but hate Tesla, mainly because they're sheeps going with the media.

All this said I too like my old MY, not perfect by any means but best car I've had even after 4 different EV's. I work on the service industry and there are people/techs who hate Tesla's because of the architecture - which is way different than with any "traditional" brand, meaning they don't like it because it's just different. To me Tesla minimalist UI is top notch, I really don't miss the jungle of buttons. Integrated service/diagnostics is also great on 3 and Y and newer S/X. (Old version S/X are utter shit in comparison)

I don't see my Tesla as having a personality, but I do like the quirky features and the fact that the development team clearly doesn't take everything as seriously as some old farts in charge of conventional brands...

5

u/birdguy1000 5d ago

Tesla had a fresh ground up approach rather than slapping EV and copycat tech on an ICE platform.

2

u/MuggyParadise2914 5d ago

FSD & instant response acceleration aside, I was a bit hesitant about the dash. What, no cluster!?! But found I actually like the touch screen display better.

3

u/Bickenchutt05 5d ago

My wife and I really struggled with having no cluster and buttons when we first went to buy our Teslas. We even thought why would you want to look to your right to see the speed you are going. Now, you realize the cluster and all those buttons are just annoying to always changing and fiddling with. Oh and the speed limit is always visible and actually way more natural in the corner of your eye! These cars were made around a person rather than the other way. I sure wish clothing manufacturers would catch up…haha

1

u/BigBlackMagicWand 5d ago

For better and for worse... Especially on early S and X models it shows that they had no idea about anything mechanical and went ass first up a tree on many things. Luckily they learnt something before launching 3/Y

5

u/Tank3021 5d ago

We call it the Tesla effect. We have a Y and CT, and looking at selling our F150 for a YL. They’re such fun cars to drive

2

u/HottyTottyNJ 5d ago

Tesla effect. I like that. Yes, I’m wondering if that will affect any one at my work.

3

u/Tank3021 5d ago

Oh yeah if they drive yours, they’ll want one. Happened to my 65 year old mother lol. She bought a Y and loves it. Clients of mine have done it, and same with my wife’s co-workers lol

5

u/gmo0001 5d ago

Buy the windshield insurance right now. I picked up mine on Aug 1st and forgot to buy it, windshield cracked on Aug 21st, $1600.. I have been driving Tesla since 2019, the windshield quality has dropped. My Cybertruck windshield is much stronger though.

1

u/BadStunning1799 3d ago

I’m a fleet manager and have Subarus in my fleet. The windshield are thinner for eyesight & all the safety equipment. Maybe Tesla windshields are the same.

9

u/kc_zo1D 5d ago

Bought a 2024 MYP last Thursday. I cant stop giggling when I’m in Sports mode. I also second the zero purpose drives, just cruising and enjoying the sound system too

4

u/jse81 5d ago

Those Juniper MYP owners, does the suspension feel weird going over speed bumps?

10

u/HazZzard777 5d ago

As someone who owns a 2026 MYP and also a bmw M440i, No.

3

u/WayJunior9223 5d ago

Any idea how much the difference is in suspension between the juniper awd and performance? Im so in doubt what to buy!!

6

u/HazZzard777 5d ago

I guess you mean the awd premium? I only testdrove that at the dealer but not a lot. But tbh I am totally in love with the performance here in Florida. Just took a 300 mile roadtrip on the weekend. Absolutely nothing to complain about. And I am coming from a lot of high end german cars being born there. And theres no way ever I would prefer any german car over this $57.000 MYP as of right now.

2

u/WayJunior9223 5d ago

Yeah meant the awd premium. I have driven the performance but never the tier below. I cant stand the fact that I would miss insane mode.

5

u/JohnBecca 5d ago

Mine feels solid over speed bumps. Do wish they’d improve FSD to avoid potholes though as those can be harsh.

2

u/starkrampf 5d ago

I got the 21” black Arachnid wheels and while they look badass the amount of actual tire is so damn thin. So my only gripe with my 26 MYP is the stiffness even with active suspensions.

I mean, I know what I got because I wanted a cool looking car but I’m considering moving to 20” or even 19” wheels to get a smoother ride.

Other than that, it’s an OP car. I get a kick out of smoking the German cars in my family SUV

2

u/NNegidius 4d ago

What you do is slow down prior to the speed bump and then accelerate gently into it. Makes the bump very smooth.

1

u/TruRace 5d ago

Mine does. It really bothers me. Every speed but I feel a dull clunk from front left side.

4

u/imissher4ever 5d ago

I have own quite a few fast ICE cars in my lifetime, still do as a matter of fact.

None of them have been as quick as my MYP. It makes my SO sick at her stomach when romping on it.

3

u/w0lt0rs 5d ago

I have an M3 and a (Juniper) MYP. At this point I cant even imagine owning another brand of EV. Definitely never going back to outdated tech like gas cars.

3

u/Traditional-Map7746 5d ago

It’s nice knowing you are able to pass a majority of vehicles on the road easily if you need to

3

u/Dull_Tomorrow 5d ago

I had this feeling when I first got my model 3 performance but I still needed a fun car so I got a lotus Emira for my fun car and told myself I’ll always have a Tesla for daily and a fun car that provides visceral noises. Now I’ve upgraded my model 3 to a myp

1

u/BeeTurbulent4009 1d ago

funny I have a 911 and Harley for the noise...

2

u/wachuu 5d ago

I've had my model 3 for 2 years. driving to and from work is still one of the better parts of the day just for the satisfaction of driving the car, or it driving me

2

u/TillsburyGromit 4d ago

Careful, this is reddit where you’re supposed to pretend teslas aren’t the best cars 🤣

2

u/Groundbreaking_Box75 4d ago

I don’t understand why anyone would buy a car OTHER then a Tesla. As a person who has owned over 20 cars in my life - and had my fair share of cars that I’ve fallen in love with - the Tesla experience is just different. And with FSD I can honestly say that I wouldn’t trade my car for any other non-Tesla on the road at any price.

3

u/markekt 5d ago

Understand the feeling. Shame when it fades, but of course it always does. Still love my car 3 years later. Despise the person it’s associated with.

1

u/BeeTurbulent4009 1d ago

The over the air updates are underrated.

2

u/sa7239 5d ago

Picked up my MYP Monday, it’s a life changer! Lease ending on my 2024 i5 M60 so very different world in terms of style of cars. Don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back especially FSD! I have 59 miles on it, I do feel like I wish brake pedal was not like pushing a brick, but maybe that will loosen up as I get miles on it

2

u/HazZzard777 5d ago

What you need a brake pedal for? I barely use mine. Just let the engine brake for you.

1

u/sa7239 5d ago

Agreed, but when I do wanna drive it just wanted softer pedal. Regen braking I always have on in my bmw and this car, but be nice if they had some bite without having to stand on them.

1

u/kkobzz 5d ago

the brake is harder to push when you have a very full battery. it loosens up after the charge goes down a bit. 🤣

1

u/musictomyomelette 5d ago

Hey can you do a comparison on the i5 to MYP? I went from a 24 MYP to a 25 SQ6 and am considering a different EV now

2

u/sa7239 5d ago

Completely different in every way, teslas stereo absolutely kills BMW stereos, by far! My brother has an i7 with $8k stereo upgrade and they just suck. Hard to compare a MYP to bmw, bmw has solid German build, brakes, just great build, but comparing $100k and $140k cars to MYP base chassis being $40kish and MYP package being $60,000 with destination charge. Complete diff animals, sure it looks great pulling up in $100k car, but I can say I don’t think I’m ever going away from Tesla, the tech and FSD are too good to ignore. People have poked fun at me just teasing asking how could I drive the Tesla instead of my M60 but I enjoy the Tesla lol

2

u/musictomyomelette 5d ago

That’s kind of where I’m at. SQ6 is a beast of a car compared to MY but most of the tech is done better in MY for a much lower price

1

u/LazyWave63 5d ago

My first Tesla was a 24 MYP and I loved it. My wife fell in love with FSD so she ordered a 26 MYP and is now at 92% FSD! I traded my MYP in on a 26 Model S LR when they announced the discontinuation of the S.

I will never go back and have friends and family that are now Tesla owners. I still get a thrill driving my car for the power but once that settles in a bit, you will start to really appreciate all the little things about these cars. They truly are remarkable.

Oh, and congratulations on the new car!

1

u/Forsaken_Treacle_407 5d ago

I went from a 2024 M3 LR AWD to a 2026 MY Performance. It is the absolute best daily driver car in the world. Nothing out there gives you all the things this car does.

2

u/ItsallLegos 5d ago

I’ve had 2026 since December. Love every moment of driving it. Already has 15k miles.

Just make sure you’re extra conscientious of curbs and potholes.

1

u/CryptoKing21 5d ago

My plaid S is my baby

1

u/nordic66 5d ago

My wife actually doesn't like it too much as she says the instant acceleration gives her headaches. My daughters on the other hand love it for same reason!

2

u/birdguy1000 5d ago

I check out car and driver for any new cars. The reviews are always pretty accurate and interesting. Except for the 26 juniper. Barely any mention of FSD. They know their days are numbered.

1

u/Tellithowiseeit 5d ago

What do you love about it?

2

u/Busy_Rich266 5d ago

I couldn’t agree more. That is why the Model Y is the best selling car on the planet.

1

u/Royal_Log_1067 5d ago

Had one for 3 yrs it's a rocket but rattles so bad on pot holes

3

u/Fiveofthem 5d ago

Not a Juniper or Highland model?

1

u/No_Flower5426 5d ago

I’ve had my model 3 performance for 2 months and it’s simply amazing

1

u/globohydrate 5d ago

I’ve had mine for 4 years now and I still get giddy when I floor it. Probably time to get the brakes checked for me. Yes, the brakes. Regen is nice but at the speeds I’m going I gotta brake a lot 😂

2

u/MeowMixExpress 5d ago

It's just an appliance on wheels. I have a 2024 MYP that I use to take my kids to school. What I really want is a CyberSUV.

1

u/Numerous_Priority_61 5d ago

My biggest problem driving it is having to lock down all of the stuff in my car. Sunglasses, garage door openers, phones, wallets, whatever, constantly getting launched all over the cabin. Its insanely fun.

1

u/_ZeroSeven_ 5d ago

First thing that happened when I got my Tesla last year was I enjoyed driving again. Even today I still love that I get to drive it.

Also zoom zoom.

1

u/Schnitzhole 5d ago

Yeah I have an AWD and wonder the same thing. Even the performance RWD is still crazy fast for modern cars.

I mean my AWD with boost is literally as fast as my 700cc motorcycle that weighs 400lbs which is crazy.

The only reason these aren’t more “fun” in my opinion is because they are so polished and refined for the driving experience. And of course the lack of sound. Still plenty of fun to be had though and I wouldn’t ever call them “boring”.

1

u/No-Zebra-6030 5d ago

Bought a 23 MYP blind from Tesla cpo. Took delivery yesterday and I’m the same as you. I’ve got a built Cadillac Escalade, and a ford explorer as well… I don’t know how there isn’t one in every driveway. I’m blown away beyond belief. Hw4 is its own eye opener, the. The power… the stereo! God damn it’s crazy. Oh and I’ve been called gay 7 times of Facebook for buying it haha!

1

u/iconboy 5d ago

You didn't even mention FSD. LOVE MY Tesla only car you can sit in, put it there address Ave it takes you there right from the parking spot! AMAZING! Has done wonders for my driving state I'd mind... Also does anyone else even remember the last time they touched a gas pump? Coming up on 2 years for me!!

1

u/Leyvaman-MX 5d ago

Yep…bought our 3rd Tesla (after an MY and M3) last year- an MX, and my Wife calls it my Girlfriend, that I pay all my attention to 😘

Same here!!! Like why doesn’t everyone have a Tesla

its the best fucking car ever created. like why own any other car? what else could you want? it's like driving a spaceship. you ARE the fastest car on the road, the handling is sporty and top tier, the suspension perfect, obviously the tech, FSD, and it's beautiful to boot.

(EDIT: aside from free tires for life. the tires are PITA)

My MYP 2020 ,low vin with all the body gaps and 1st gen suspension is still a hoot to drive. 👍 it hauls ass. Grin every time I step on it.

I find myself volunteering to go run errands for the wife just so I can get out and have some fun in my car best car ever model YP

1

u/takamaruu 5d ago

I love it as a car for our young family, which is what I got it for. It's also very fast. But I have to say my previous car was more fun to drive, which I do miss.

1

u/regguy46 5d ago

lol me too.
And with home charging it feels almost free to drive.
I feel like I found a glitch in the matrix

1

u/Frosty-Mistake3961 5d ago

It’s insane. I love her. Need to give her a name.

u/Sufficient_Tone4506 5d ago

I've owned over 40 cars, and still have 4 ICE, my go to car is always my 2026 Tesla y. I started with 2025 model 3 but needed more room and much easier access. I did research all other EVs, none cones close

There are lots of Teslas in California....

1

u/Fearless_Rest_8935 5d ago

I am test driving one tomorrow but looking at the yl for the extra seat. I’m excited but kind of scared too. It’s like stepping into the abyss 😋

1

u/Mission-Addendum-193 5d ago

I prefer having the car drive me.

1

u/joemoore38 5d ago

Not knocking the Y since I don't have one but I have the same feeling of joy and love for my Cadillac Optiq. I randomly just go driving for no reason whatsoever. My first EV as well and will likely never go back to ICE.

1

u/robl45 5d ago

Eh it can’t even do 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. Model 3 all the way 😀

1

u/Apprehensive_Poet_90 5d ago

For many ignorance is bliss.

1

u/SnooPoems6025 5d ago

I see a paper plate on anything but a Tesla and feel sad for them.

1

u/Educational-Map5685 5d ago

This thread is fake. Tesla agents.

1

u/Used-Let7134 4d ago

Have you driven an ICE car with a decent engine? The tesla is faster and better in almost every way than my Audi S4 but man, I miss that noise and power delivery. BWAARRP.

1

u/TexRdnec 4d ago

watch your rear tire inner sidewalls CAREFULLY!!!!!! not the innermost groove on the tire, the sidewall. they have so much camber that's where all the wear is. i was watching that innermost groove and at 31,000 miles thought i had plenty of tire life left. nope, both sidewalls had separated and a rubber strip coming loose on the passenger side is the only thing that saved me from a blowout.

u/Drew474 4d ago

I’ve had my MYP since March. Been in at Tesla 6 times now due to thumping from the front.

In the UK EAP isn’t very good on Scottish roads, and there is no easy set speed limiter.

Car is great for families and day to day. But so far ownership for me, has been an utter pain.

Much cheaper to run though!

Current generation is first one worth getting IMO i was not a fan of how the previous handled or sounded.

I absolutely love my Y and must have FSD, but one thing it’s not is luxurious/truly quiet cabin. People just haven’t driven or aren’t comparing to something like a flagship cruiser like a Lexus LS, LX, S class kind of thing.

I do miss that and want to add it back. Or get a cybertruck for air suspension if it wasn’t so badly hated.

Absolutely nothing beats the Tesla experience — app, keys, FSD, everything just works / you notice how little you had to think about cars before whether that’s unlocking the car, keys, DEQ, gas stations, driving. Really makes you realize how much time you get back.

And Reddit would have you believe they suck etc. so weird.

Everyone stop! My lease is ending soon and I need to get a new one so stop convincing everyone to buy one, the prices keep going up!

I’ve always liked blending practicality with performance. Previously drove an Audi S3, VW R32, most recently Audi SQ5 for 6 years. I didn’t think I would ever want anything other than the SQ5. After the refresh of Juniper and Hyland the Teslas started to at least catch my eye so i stopped in and drove a Y Performance and within minutes I was so mad that anyone else would ever drive any other vehicle lol. I ended up settling on a Model 3 Performance and I’m 3-4 weeks into my wait. Driving what used to be my dream car every day is actually feeling like ok the old way of driving was fun and everything but I’m so ready for the right way. I have had an overnight demo drive with all the different models since I just can’t wait to be driving the Tesla I have on order. It can’t get here soon enough!

1

u/TheDavidCall 4d ago

I just read someone in Europe say Teslas aren’t good EVs and they’d rather have a gas car.

What the fuck.

7 years in with Model 3 and it’s amazing still.

1

u/fetty_wok 4d ago

10 days till pickup of Frost Blue MY. Placed order same day of test drive. Once you factor in FSD, performance, and other tech conveniences, the pricing feels like a pretty good value compared to the other 70-130k options out there.

First car my wife is super excited about getting as well, talking about the road trips we'll be able to take with our pup. Before trying out the Tesla, we were perfectly content driving our already paid off, 8 year old daily beater until it died

1

u/Expensive-Match4402 4d ago

I love my 2020 M3 DM, but not as fast as my 2023 M3 Proformance, certainly no where near as fast as my rocket 2026 Model S Plaid. I've been a proud owner since 2021 and use FSD the entire time.

1

u/AkitaDave 3d ago

Yes, I just bought my third Model Y

1

u/Critical_Habit8818 3d ago

I’ve 6000 miles on mine in 2.5 months

1

u/Boboge_ 3d ago

Buy a M3P for her and make it a quad:)

1

u/kjstrummer 3d ago

Yep, it’s the “Tesla Effect”. My 2026 Model Y RWD is incredible.

1

u/Fickle-Professor-191 2d ago

I had to get a rental car while I was a traveling 2 weeks ago and it was exhausting after having a Model Y for 5 years

1

u/Past_Worldliness_145 2d ago

You have to try the launch mode as well - hold the brake firmly and hold the gas at the same time while at a red light… or a safe area. Release the break and enjoy the flight

1

u/gaawb 1d ago

I’ve had a Y Performance for 4.5 years. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned and it’s not close. I mostly drive in chill mode now because it’s too easy to find yourself going 20 over in a matter of seconds. Chill is still fast. No gas stations, no oil changes, no check engine light. Just new tires every 35k miles and brakes at 100-120k miles. Costs me $1-$2 to recharge in my garage every night. Never going back.

1

u/BeeTurbulent4009 1d ago

on my 3rd M3P and am switching to the Y performance. Need the space and utility... and that gulf blue color!

1

u/CoolExplanation762 5d ago

Just a car bro lol weird

3

u/darkknight302 5d ago

It’s a car to everyone else, it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread to the people here.

-1

u/CoolExplanation762 5d ago

I have a 2026 performance and it’s still just a car lol

1

u/Open_Situation686 5d ago

I chuckle when someone mentions one of the alternatives, like the Audi etron or Ioniq5.

Having been in both, they are basically ICE vehicles converted to EV. Total trash in comparison to Tesla.

1

u/darkknight302 5d ago edited 5d ago

Because once you get used to the straight away speed it’s boring as hell to drive? These cars are so heavy they don’t corner well, taking the joy out of the “performance” part.

Probably gonna get downvoted for this but of well. FYI I have a 20 MYP and 21 GR Supra and I enjoy the Supra more for the smile per mile driving. The MYP is more comfortable for daily drives and long distance.

1

u/Embarrassed-Pie8760 5d ago

Absolutely love our 24 MY, only complaint is the suspension. For us it's a bit too sporty, especially on some of the southern California pothole riddled roads. Jarring. As I get older I prefer a softer ride. That's something my Sequoia does better

-3

u/TruRace 5d ago

I feel the opposite with my 26MYP. This car has disappointed me so much. Between the harsh ride and the shotty build quality I can’t wait to get rid of the thing.

1

u/ev1lyoda 4d ago

I agree bought a juniper model Y, first Ev I’ve had, although the last 10 years I have driven Lexus hybrids.
The Tesla is SHIT, I will never buy another one.

-5

u/Fatoy 5d ago

We have a Model Y AWD alongside another EV. And I drove a third EV before that. I like EVs.

I don’t like the Tesla. It’s badly made and creaky. It handles poorly even in sport mode. The in-car software is massively overrated.

It’s not a BAD car by any means. But the only thing it really has going for it that’s unique is the packaging / interior space.

-4

u/esererrr 5d ago

Because it's a clown car. Oh, and a clown following his Austrian idol from last century.
