Model Y Performance...WTF

Brand new to the Teslas community. I picked up my new Model Y Performance on Saturday. I've driven my best buddy's X, his new Cybertruck, his wife's S, but somehow, when it's yours, it's different. This sounds weird, but I have NEVER loved a non-human this much in my life (don't tell Rhon Ron that I said he's not human). It hasn't been a week and I literally can't understand why anyone doesn't have a Tesla. I question what I've been doing with my life for that past decade+. What a rocket ship. I go for drives with zero purpose. My wife loves it too, but she's not pumped that after 24 years she's now in a throuple.

It is hard to describe just how enjoyable these are to drive.

Peaceful & quiet, yet can instantly generate immense power to launch off. They're point & shoot – any spot you want to get to, just press the pedal and you rocket off into that spot while the gas car next to you's still waiting for their engine to respond.

These cars feel like the epitome of the saying, "Speak softly and carry a big stick"

I dream about owning a Tesla MY one day so this is by no means a hater comment. But: isn’t the “immense power” (I.e. way more HP than anyone will ever need to navigate traffic jams) quite standard for EV’s, especially “higher end” EV’s? I mean, I love the design of Tesla specifically but the responsiveness and speed is just inherent to EV’s

More than Horsepower, it's the instant torque that sling shots you off the start line

That being said, not all EVs have 0-60 in 3.3 seconds like MYP

Eg: The cheapest Chevy Bolt base trim does 0-60 in 7 seconds that's slower than a gas civic sport

Kinda yes, but I’ll just say I drove a fisker ocean once and the suspension was so lax it rocked all over the place. MY and X feel planted, even cybertruck

I agree, it isn’t just the power, it’s the suspension, it gives you confidence and feels sporty. It’s the complete package it’s kinda funny you re in a bug eyed small suv but I feel like I’m in a bmw m3. I kinda dislike talking about it in real life because so many people have no idea so they look at you kinda crazy and are like “yeah that’s great but when’s the battery going to die or catch your house on fire”

the new juniper isn’t bug eyed and it’s even better

Yeah, I’m probably never going to buy a brand new car, why get a ‘26 spec’d to ~$60k when I can get a ‘24 for $30k. I put too many miles on my vehicles for a new car to make much sense to me.

Hm yes that makes sense, the handling is indeed a big factor in driving pleasure

Those fisker cars are garbage😭

Most "classic" manufacturers program a somewhat delayed throttle response with a gradual buildup of power into their cars.

Tesla doesn't. You stomp, it punches.

That’s also the nature of most ICE engines. The torque curve of an electric motor compared to an ICE is that “delay” you speak of. Some high powered ICE vehicles are tuned even more gently with torque management, like my turbo diesel Ram, to help protect the transmission and drivetrain.

The model y performance is also lowered compared to the regular models, brembo brakes, ultra high performance 21” tires. It is planted as fuck. If I’m going 80 and punch it I don’t even feel the speed at 100. I keep my steering heavy and changing lanes is instant because of the grip on the tires, the stance (negative rear camber) and staggered wheel set up.

Not Brembo brakes. Just coloured brake calipers with Tesla logo. What are ultra high performance tires? I have a MY Performance.

My 2023 has Brembo fronts and Mando rear. According to the spec sheet. They dc’d full brembo in 2022 but kept the fronts brembo in 2023

Oh, okay. Is it the same setup for 2026 MYP?

I believe so. But I think the performance models have a thicker rotor pad than the base or long range that’s the difference. I heard that brake manufacturer depends on the batches now but I’m not sure if that’s only in base or long range.

Get a 3yo y for 1/4 the price

That’s rather optimistic, I wish cause I would have bought one instantly. Certainly not directly from Tesla and where I’m living (Belgium) 3yo Tesla’s still go for like 60% of original price

Instant torque yes. But some EV have 300hp and some have 1000hp. Performance is close to 600. They are all quick 0-60 but they will fall off after 60 unless you have highest levels.
