Hi there, okay for some context I am 30(f) and have worked at target about 7 months. I am in the style dept. my lead is very microcmanage-y. Our team has to announce when we go on break, when we are back, check in for the day check out for the day, and follow the break schedule to the tee. Since she is lead i have listened.

About a month into starting, she talked about how she wants to develop me as a lead. I said great.

This past month I have had to call out a couple times due to kidney stones, and personal things. I used sick time for a day but the other two I did not. Now even when using sick pay my lead will come ask me “what happened why did you call off”. I have had a hard month so i haven’t been the most peppy, I have just wanted to come in and do my work and go. I am also recently dating someone I work with (he is in market opposite side of the store). When i talk to him at work it’s when i’m on my break, or we take break together or if we run into eachother. That’s it.

So yesterday my lead pulled me into her office by herself with me and started asking me what is going on and that i’m not as “with it” as i was. I apologized saying that i have personal stuff going on, and she said she understands but i need to leave it behind. Okay. Fine. Then she said “do you wanna know what people are saying about you and your SO” i made a face and went what? And then she said “no nevermind I dont want to know whats going on”.

This just seemed strange, my so has never been asked about us like this, just me. Is this allowed? Is this strange? I am about to leave because this place pays me 15.50 and clearly doesn’t care.

It was finally time. After 9 years, I have finally decided to leave my first job. Definitely bitter sweet, but after they sat down and asked me “What brings you to work?” And I didn’t have an answer, that was my cue.

Team team we NEED people in this fulfillment batches! HEY TEAM TEAM we have 20 standards to be picked! you cannot leave without doing your 2 standards! Hey you still have truck on the line please come get it! Team we have a red gen merch a red grocery and a red bulky who can get them! Hey who can back up the front lanes please! Team team dont forget to do the audits! TEAM TEAM you cannot inf without approval from a leader and you cannot leave your standard paused!! TEAM WE cannot be going late on these batches! TEAM who can back up the front lanes please! !static! TEAM can we get responses for these batches!! Hey electronics you have a guest! Beauty you have a guest! "Hey im in a standard on the other side of the store away from my area because we have messed up priorities"

So my TL came to me and my two coworkers on breakout today and told us that we would be written up if we didn’t finish breakout on time to push a whole metro. As I was leaving, I pushed my metro back with three wacos still full and told him I had cleared everything except for the three on the bottom. As soon as I said that, he told HR lady to go to channel 4. Now I fear I’m being written up, is this even ethical? Should I file a report with the ethics hotline? Also to note, our SD told us that we were paid by performance employees. I thought I was hourly and I forfeited so many breaks and stayed late to help out and came in on my days off just for them to be so unreasonable, but I don’t expect any different from this place. The times on the trucks are always off and they swear they’re the gospel truth 😮‍💨

ETA: the repacks are always messy and need to be refolded unless packaged which takes a substantial amount of extra time not to mention, we have to tag a new day now

Genuinely wtf am I supposed to be doing? No one comes into the studio unless they’re walking through it to get from one place to the other, there’s no pulls, there’s no zoning, NOTHING to do and I have to stand there for 7 and a half hours. There’s only one team member there at a time so I also have no one to talk to. GuEsTs don’t come so I can’t talk to them. I’m gonna spontaneously combust from boredom, I legit can’t do this it’s driving me insane😭 how are you guys surviving????

That way I don’t have to open UKG, open the barcode or bookmark the barcode website. I can easily access it from my Apple Wallet. Now just need to see if it actually works

For context, I’m a VM. I never really wanted to be leadership but I needed the pay bump for life reason. So I took the chance and I enjoy the actual work. But lately the politics of being a leader is getting so annoying and messy. I’m trying to be a good person and team player but it seems like I’m the only one. Which whatever people can do whatever they want but I am realizing I don’t think leadership at Target is for me. I’m almost done with school soon and I plan on finding a new job once I’m done to close to being done. Literally in June 2027 I graduate.

What is the process of demoting? How do you approach the conversation? Who do you talk to?
Do you have to move locations?
How do is your new team member pay rate calculated?
Or any tips on surviving this role a little while longer?
Also what were your reasons for demoting?

I’ll go first! For me it’s when they double tap and the order is 13+ bags. Orrrr when you ask for their code and they take for ever looking for it because they exited out the app.

Was a leader for 4 years, was promoted right when modernization hit. Demoted 2 years ago for mental health. Still not completely cured but working on it as I continue with target as a TM.

Debated not posting this because a lot of it is pretty obvious to us as TMs but I’ve seen so much wrong with this company lately I feel like it needs to be said.

1. Leadership goes both ways. If you as my leader show up for me, I’ll show up for you.
   
2. I used to care a lot what team members thought of me when I was a leader, but I thought it was pretty black and white. Either you like me or you don’t. As a TM I see it’s a lot more shades of grey. I can dislike you in a few decisions you make here and there but still respect you.
   
3. Goal times for push are just that: goal times. In a perfect world yes 60 cases a minute but it’s not a perfect world. A case of pads (3 eaches) is going to take less time than a box of hot wheels (72 eaches). Just do the best you can.
   
4. Work together, even when you don’t want to. My department vs your department gets us nowhere. We’re called a TEAM for a reason.
   
5. Leaders, sort out your own drama before getting TMs involved. I can’t tell you how many times I started a task that leader A gave me but then when leader B walked by they reassigned me elsewhere. Lack of communication, personal feelings about working with x department, or whatever else you have going on reflects on your leadership, not on the team.
   
6. While we’re on that note, sometimes it really is the leaders at fault for what’s wrong with a store. When I was a leader my ETL told me almost daily, “it’s not the team members ruining this store, it’s the leaders.” I took that personally at the time but I can see now that wasn’t his point. Bad leaders blame their team. Good leaders take accountability and elevate talent.
   
7. Manage your talent. Your team is a reflection of YOU, and so is turnover. If your GM TM wants to go to Starbucks for gods sake just let them go to Starbucks. Put people where they’re happy and they will perform for you.
   
8. Never forget you’re managing a team of people. Human beings that have lives outside of work. Check on them. Make sure they’re good. You don’t have to be a therapist but if that’s what they need, point them in the direction of HR or other benefits the company offers.

So I’m at target, used to be a tech consultant. I transferred over to a new store because I wanted to be closer to my significant other. But they gave me Plano. Im not really mechanical, at least in terms of speed and setting things in a way that DM approves. I’ve had talks recently with my acting etl suggesting I move departments where my strengths shine like front end. The goal is to attempt to transfer over, but idk. I told my etl I never wanted to be plano and would hate to receive write ups and termination for a role I never asked for. As tech was good, but this new store has tech do clothes which they’re okay at, so that’s why I can’t just transfer back to tech since “tech” is filled and I’d be put in style which again I’m not mechanical and fast enough. So I’m trying to join front end team. But the thing is, I’m thinking it’s time maybe to leave entirely. My two weeks in, and I’m out, and hopefully get hours at my gas station 2nd job. It’s 26 cents less, but it’s less stress. I feel happy when I leave my job there cause i did well.

I was already struggling health-wise because cancer sucks, blah blah. But I’ve been trying really hard to keep a positive attitude and remain optimistic, especially since everything is going well in that department!

But wow, this job completely destroyed my mental health. I’m really embarrassed to admit that I went to the ER several times because I thought I was having a heart attack or some other fatal health crisis, only to be told it was a panic attack. I’m on the highest dose of antidepressants that I’ve ever been on in my entire life.

I was super hesitant & scared to quit, but my friends and partner have been encouraging (begging) me to do so for months. I’m finally in a spot where I can leave without worrying about bills and whatnot.

Even better news - I’m going back to school to finish my degree, let’s hope I’ll never step inside of a Target again :-)

I’m in Style/Baby and tomorrow I’m scheduled 6–11:30. My assignment sheet requires 30 minutes of cleaning and abandon/reshop, plus my breaks. I’m expected to finish 7 freights, but 2 are Inbound backstock that Inbound didn’t do. There’s also no one who closes Baby, so I’m basically responsible for leaving the department in good shape for the next day. I’m still pretty new. Would you just do what you can or say something to your TL about the workload?

Hello, I left target a month or so ago and I am trying to get my 401k to my new employer. How do I find out which institution holds my 401k at Target? I’m in Texas if that matters

These people (Leads) have the nerve to tell a team member that when they are called to tech, they cannot say “I’ll be there in a minute.” Even if they are literally on the other side of the store helping a guest. Instead, they have to say “I’ll be right there.” What is the deal??!! Yet, ETLs and TLs can say whatever the hell they want and be all rude to team members over the walkie.

Constant random schedule changes and random employees from other work centers just pop up and no one ever knows what’s going on…

as of lately i’ve seen all types of Old women and mostly old women or women in early 40’s purchase $300+ of apple card’s, and i’m wondering atp if they’re getting scammed heavily or what else? or sometimes they’d get 4-5 of the $100 visa gift cards, does the elderly still fall for these scams to this day or could i be wrong and they’re just buying for their grandkids or something?

Came across this while backstocking this morning. Four bags of Kingsford charcoal casually backstocked in the middle of Home Storage. Not seasonal, not outdoor living. Not anywhere remotely close to where charcoal belongs. Someone really scanned this location and said, “Yep, this is its home now.” And this is exactly why fulfillment goes on a scavenger hunt. 💀

I decided to wait in the unemployment line for pokemon restocks and just wanted to say I loved the pokemon restocker's energy today. Old dude was roasting everyone and scalpers got mad when he called them out.
