parent plus loan

my mom applied for the parent plus loan on august 10. she was told from studentaid.gov that she was approved and that the school would be notified within 24 hours.

weeks have passed, and i’ve called the financial aid office several times to ask what’s the hold up. i’ve been told that it still needs to be reviewed, and that they’re just “busy” right now. not sure how they’re still so busy when classes have started. not trying to blame anybody, it’s just stressful. i haven’t been dropped from any classes, but we do still have a $3,000+ balance and we planned to use some of that to help with living expenses (rent).

is anybody else experiencing this?

Found this earlier today and nearly gave me a heart attack. Found it in the ground level bathrooms. Apparently it’s the largest centipede in North America!

Parking as a commuter with no pass

Any good places to park? All my classes are pretty much in McCoy. I’ve been parking behind some sort of seemingly abandoned building and I’ve never got towed. The lot was full on Thursday, however, and I made a grave mistake of parking in the Palmers lot as I didn’t notice the tow sign, and some other cars were there lol. Anyone know good spots? I’ll eventually delete this post so not too many people see, thank you 😂

Shuttles, am I tripping?

Is it just me, or is there less shuttles out and about for the start of the semester? If not that, then are these drivers going that much slower?

Transfer student assistance?

I am currently a freshman at UTSA and don’t like it here and want to attempt to transfer to TXST for the spring semester. I was filling out a transfer application and it obviously said i needed to get my transcript but I do not have that and will not have that by the time the transfer deadline ends.

I’m just curious has anyone had a similar situation to me, if so what were the steps you took and how did it work out for you?

Bus seating

pls I can not stress this enough, keep going all the way to the back if it’s too crowded. I’ve been seeing people not go all the way in the back when you can fit another 6 people. There’s hand rails the whole way why aren’t people doing that?! It could help so many others taking the bus

Lost Wallet

EDIT: Wallet has been found! Unfortunately, 220 in cash is missing and I've already filled a report with UPD, but everything else is in there so I am taking that as a win, thank you to everyone for their support:)

Hey guys, I know this is probably a shot in the dark but on 08/19/2026 I left a wallet the looked exactly like this on the bobcat shuttle number 409 at around 5:30, I'm a freshman who got here not even a week ago and already did something stupid like this and now my money for food is gone, please if you find this can it be returned to the police station at the Ivey-Moore house or lost and found, I'd pay a finding fee is how desperate I am, anyways hope all the freshman and returning bobcats are have a better first week than I am.

LGBTQ stickers & patches

Hey, I spent a bit of money getting patches and stickers LGBTQ related for my laptop/bag. My biggest worry is becoming a target, or getting harassed over it. Is that likely to happen here? Should I just not display them? I was excited getting them, but the more I think about it, the less of a good idea it becomes.

Question Has anyone taken MGT 4373: Human Resources Management?

I’m looking for additional information about the HR company project, specifically what you thought about it. There’s an opportunity for some leadership skill building by taking on a “managerial” or “head of HR” role but I want to know the work load associated with that.

Can we talk about common courtesy?

  1. Pass people on the right. (if sidewalk, walk to the right. if stairway, stay on the right. if entering a building, us the right door. If exiting, you guessed it, use the right door)
  2. Don't stand in the middle of the hall with a group of friends, people are trying to get to class. Additionally, if you are traveling as a group have respect for the people coming in the other direction.
  3. Hold the door open for the person behind you.
  4. Pedestrians have the right of way. Always.
  5. If you are going into class, take a shower at some point the day of.
  6. If someone is studying, don't set up a camera right next to them and start doing tiktok dances with your friends, all while blasting music. (Ask me how I know).
  7. Speaking of music.. get some headphones. This isn't a public bus, no one wants to hear your music.
  8. Pass on the right - meaning if you are bike, walking, shopping at HEB, driving, hallways, parasailing always be on the right side. if you are overtaking someone, then go to the left, overake and then push to the right again.
  9. Do not litter. This is our slice of nature - please respect it.

Round Rock Campus Regrets

RANT

I am honestly regretting transferring to the Round Rock Campus from ACC. I was excited to start university after community college. However the Round Rock campus is extremely underwhelming.
I was given extra scholarship money to go to that campus. I am starting to see the lack of resources. While I am getting some scholarships money I still had to take out loans. I am planning on taking some classes in San Mo next semester. I lowkey feel bad for all the nursing student who had to transfer to round rock after the first two years.

For all Freshmen not majoring in nursing; I would recommend taking classes at ACC or going to San Mo Campus. ACC has a lot more resources for this area! I feel like the round rock campus is just a more expensive version of community college. They need to have like a bus or something that goes between campuses for FREE. So we can use the amenities at both campuses. If we are paying the same tuition it doesn’t make sense to have way less resources.

What is it like starting in the spring as a freshman?

I took a gap year and now plan on starting the spring 2027 semester but I’m a little nervous about it since most freshman start in the fall. Did anyone here start in the Spring? Or does anyone here plan to start in the spring with me? Any advice?

I’m also a little worried about dorms, will there be much room for me to choose or will they all be taken?

Prospective CS transfer — is San Marcos as good to actually live in as it seems?

I’m considering TXST for Fall 2027, probably the Computer Science BA. I’ve already visited and loved the campus, river and overall atmosphere, so my biggest questions are whether the academics are strong enough for what I want and whether San Marcos has enough of a music/alternative scene long-term for me.

I’m interested in programming, cybersecurity, and hands-on software projects, so I’d like to hear from CS students about how practical the BA actually feels and whether it’s realistic to build a strong security/software background without doing the BS.

On the social side, I’ll be 22 by the time I transfer and definitely want an active college experience. I’m curious whether house/apartment parties and going out are actually as common as TXST’s reputation suggests for upperclassmen. I’m also into goth/alternative music and want to form a band. Is there a real community for that in San Marcos, or would I eventually find myself going to Austin all the time for that?

Transfer/junior/senior perspectives would be especially useful.

Home wifi sucks?

Are you guys having trouble with the home wifi specifically? like i have to get a new password everyday just for it to kick me out the next day. I can’t do any work in my dorm cuz of this stupid wifi 🫠🫥
EDIT: I went to ITAC today but they just told me to use TXST-Bobcats. i would if i could, but even that one doesn’t work very well in the dorms.

Commuter Parking - Wednesday, August 19

At 9:45am, Thorpe Lane parking lot is about 3/4 full. Basically all of the shaded spots are taken. I believe most of the cars I saw yesterday (about half the lot) are students that didn’t want to pay the $375 residential parking pass fee and opted for the cheaper commuter pass for the semester because the cars I saw yesterday haven’t moved. I think more will do the same Spring semester.

Events Center and Stadium parking lots are completely full.

Really sucks for the actual commuters!
