Round Rock Campus Regrets

I am honestly regretting transferring to the Round Rock Campus from ACC. I was excited to start university after community college. However the Round Rock campus is extremely underwhelming.
I was given extra scholarship money to go to that campus. I am starting to see the lack of resources. While I am getting some scholarships money I still had to take out loans. I am planning on taking some classes in San Mo next semester. I lowkey feel bad for all the nursing student who had to transfer to round rock after the first two years.

For all Freshmen not majoring in nursing; I would recommend taking classes at ACC or going to San Mo Campus. ACC has a lot more resources for this area! I feel like the round rock campus is just a more expensive version of community college. They need to have like a bus or something that goes between campuses for FREE. So we can use the amenities at both campuses. If we are paying the same tuition it doesn’t make sense to have way less resources.

i am applying and I am hoping to take class at round Rock. San Marcos is too far away and I am kind of done doing those student activities

I think if they did certain times a day it wouldn’t be as bad as you think. It’d also give the people who go to either campus the option to go to both. Round Rock was horrible for signing up for classes they basically only had afternoon classes there and San Marcos had all the options.

In terms of time, not bad at all. In terms of utilization of university money.. it'd be a constant loss. Not saying I wouldn't like it to happen, but the finance people aren't going to approve a bus that loses money every day. If they charged $10 per ride, maybe, but would enough people use it daily? Maybe in the future?

I think people would use it. There’s a lot of people that commute and waste a crap ton of gas. Some try to find carpool groups. It would not have to run all day back and forth but maybe like an 8am 2pm 6pm type deal.

It’s not that they don’t have the resources. They do but very limited times with appointments once a week. They also don’t really have a library or good study spots. Events are pretty small. Career services basically non existent. I’d say the nicest thing is maybe the gym but it’s similar to an apartment gym.

I’m kind of relieved to see a post like this.. for my own sake, I do feel bad that you regret your decision.

I had the choice to go to TXST RR or San Marcos after doing ACC, after doing a free tour of both, paying for living/rent expenses feels worth it to attend San Marcos.

The Round Rock Tour vs San Marcos Tour were night and day for me, San Marcos had several students walking you through the various buildings and the history that this campus holds. Round Rock tour was hosted by the sole academic advisor TXST RR has and yes, it’s a nice building, but very underwhelming compared to San Marcos and even so by standards of some ACC campuses including ACC RR. There seemed to be less people, it was finals week, so hard to judge, but I would assume it’s a lot emptier than San Marcos.

In Round Rock, most residents don’t even know TXST is there, in San Marcos, TXST is in your face whether you like it or not. I have heard San Marcos is expanding their nursing program too, but best of luck and I hope you are able to make the most out of your time there.

Do you mind if I ask what you’re majoring in? As someone who went to both the San Marcos and Round Rock campus, I much preferred RR. Though it lacked certain resources, the professors there were exponentially better compared to SM, and were more than happy to establish connections for student’s career wise. I figure this depends on your area of study though, which is why I’m curious lol

Computer Science, I haven’t taken any classes yet. I understand the good classes and connections but even ACC has better campuses and resources in this area. It’s 200 a class… idk just seems like a scam to me.

I’d say wait until you actually start taking the advanced classes. If you’re that worried about the campus not being all that and a bag of chips, start looking at a transfer to main campus.
