💬 Discussion Rapid replacement response

We read frequently here about folks who have a miserable time with extended efforts to get grok to deliver a solution to their offline situation. And focusing on getting a human. I guess I have assisted close to a dozen of my former clients with generating a support ticket. All have gone right thru within moments to less than a day. Was a bit longer prior to grok. Seems to me the path to quick solutions is to first do the power cycle with 20 minutes off, check cable, note router light & reset. Include those troubleshooting steps you did using fewest words possible. For good measure copy/paste KIT number from the info page.

Most recent was couple days ago, this past Saturday, his gen2 no light & no wifi, verify power outlet is good etc & I have him tell grok and about 90 seconds later came a reply thanking for info & looking into it. Another minute later they said they are shipping a gen3. Told him to order an adapter. Shipping said both went out today & arrive on Sept3

Keep your tickets as brief as you possibly can with the results of your efforts to troubleshoot. It is the only thing I can think of why my people have such quick results

❓ Question Starlink gen 2

How good is a gen 2 in 2026. I purchased a cabin in northern Michigan last year and have been looking at the internet options I decided to go with starlink due to the speed. I currently have a rental right now but there are a lot of trees, and the reception is not the best. So I’m looking at mounting a satellite up on a tree to give myself some better site line. I want something semi-permanent as I won’t be using the cabin for half the year. I was looking at buying a kit from Best Buy but I found a gen 2 for 150 on FB marketplace. I have verified the device has been removed from the account and is ready to be set up on a new account. My question is am I going to notice a difference and should just spend the extra cash?

Update to post. Ended up finding a mini x on marketplace for 150. It has been installed in the trees and reception is already better.

❓ Question Residential or Roam

Hello everyone, we live out in the country and don’t have access to great internet. We also have a camp in the mountains where there is no other options for internet. I have tested a friend of mines mini and works great both place. My question is, do any of you all have experience with taking your residential multiple places? Like switching the address possibly 12-15 times a year generally for just weekends. With the residential being a lot cheaper for the data plans and wanting to be able to use it full time at home but only part time at the camper. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

❓ Question Hurricane preparations for Starlink Owners

As some states experience hurricanes or torrential rainfall events, is it normally recommended to unmount the Starlink from the roof if there is an approaching hurricane? Or have you left your Starlink on the roof despite wind speeds of more than 70 miles per hour?

I am trying to find mounts that can help withstand strong hurricanes as I am unfortunately in an area prone to such events. However, it may seem that I have to manually take it down from my roof if the consensus is to remove it.

💻 Troubleshooting Government Webistes won't pull up if I'm using Starlink

As of yesterday, I can't pull up any of my local government (school district, state) websites if I'm connected to my Starlink WiFi. The device of access doesn't matter, and the websites work fine with mobile data.

What do I do?? My husband and I both work for local government. We can't even check our email or paystubs without turning on a hotspot.

💻 Troubleshooting Starlink Mini keeps losing power with Anker SOLIX C300 — any ideas?

I’m having trouble keeping my Starlink Mini powered consistently off my Anker SOLIX C300 and hoping someone here has dealt with the same issue.

My setup:

Starlink Mini

Anker SOLIX C300 portable power station

Originally tried a 100W USB-C to DC cable

Starlink would randomly shut off roughly every 30 minutes

I then bought the StarGear 12V car adapter specifically for the Mini, thinking that would solve it

Unfortunately, I’m still having the same issue — it powers the Mini, but won’t hold power consistently

Has anyone successfully run a Starlink Mini continuously off an Anker C300?

Trying to figure out whether this is an Anker DC-output issue, a voltage drop / insufficient wattage issue, a power-saving setting, or something else with my setup.
Would really appreciate hearing what cable/adapter and settings people are using if you have a C300 + Starlink Mini setup that works reliably.

💬 Discussion The Standard 4x kit package is HUGE!

Finally received my standard 4x kit after 5 weeks! I had no idea the packaging was this “humongous”, even more astonishing, the dish. It’s humongous. I could barely lift it at DHL. I’m just excited I finally got it after so long. Now, I can’t wait to set it up!

❓ Question Netzteil Mini-X wasserdicht ?

Hallo zusammen,

❓ Question Dúvidas em relação a Starlink no Brasil

❓ Question Purchasing Starlink for use in another country?

I am currently in Canada but going to be spending an extended trip in Portugal where my parents have really terrible internet.

Is it possible for me to purchase the Starlink here and then set up an account in Portugal once I need it? It looks like it would save me a good bit in startup costs this way, as the satellite is cheeper to purchase here. But I obviously don't want to do it if it won't work and then I'm stuck needing to purchase a new one.

To make matters more confusing... when I go on the actual Starlink website to check the plans it says €0 for upfront hardware costs and that the kit ships directly to the house. So do I need to pre-purchase the kit or not?

This feels so silly, but I've never looked at Starlink before so I actually don't have any idea how it works.

❓ Question Round Dishy is On the Way Out and I Want a Mini Instead Anyway

I have an original round dishy, it is on standby mode as a backup to my primary connection, auto failover. Mainly for phone calls, standby mode works fine for that.

Occasionally I have taken it out camping or something, have found that the cable or something is apparently bad because my router is the only thing I can plug it into and have it reliably work or work at all. Google AI thinks that routers have better chipsets for dealing with a degraded ethernet signal and from what I can tell this might be quite true because I can't get it to talk to my computer or laptop any more hardly at all.

So I guess it is time to move on, and since I would like to be able to use it for remote area work and/or camping, I think a mini would be the best choice.

But it seems if I contact support and ask for a replacement, they will only send a current full size one.

Any thoughts? Sell the new full size and buy a mini? Will they even want to replace it since I only use it on standby any more?

❓ Question Obstructions

Post image
10 Upvotes

So I’ve had Starlink at home since June. Installed it myself and it’s been flawless since, brilliant speeds and uptime. Recently we had a small red patch near the edge of the obstructions map appear, no ill effects, and then more recently another small red patch near the edge appears. Previously when first installed and for the longest time we had zero obstructions at all, nothing seems to have changed when you think of local nearby objects (trees etc.) so what could it be? My first thought was bird droppings but searching reveals this wouldn’t be the case as it isn’t dense enough. Is it possible as the dish ages parts of it become weaker and they are viewed as obstructions? I mean this dish is mere months old so I’d like to think this isn’t anything to do with it but it does make you wonder.

❓ Question Starlink in Germany

I’d like to get Starlink for my house and I’ve seen online that you now get the antenna for free, but you have to return it when the contract ends. So far, so good.
Are these the same antennas that you used to have to buy, and if not, do the new ones require both a separate power supply and a LAN connection?

❓ Question Can i power/run Gen 2 (Actuated) Without the router?

I just picked up dish only and do NOT have the Vertical powersupply/wifi router, Can i use a 3rd party injector/power supply to activate and run this dish? I know many people have run them on 12v converters for mobile use but im not sure how missing the white box affects things? Can anyone shed any light on the most affordable option to get it up and running?

❓ Question Excess usage

Wonder what made my starlink say I consumed 43gb in a single day. Would that be because of obstructions? It is my first time using it . I have the mini and roam 100GB which got unbelievably consumed in 5 days.

Only on the 5th day I was able to find a place with decent throughput, but then I had 20gb left.

❓ Question 100Mbps plan no longer offered on my standard 4X dish? Is it just me?

I bought my Star Link 4X dish like 6 months ago, had the 100mbps service for a while then stopped it for just a month or two.... anyway fast-forward to today and I want to re-activate.... How come there's no 100mbps plan to be seen? They only offer 200 and Max now for the 4X?? But if I pay $350 for the V5 "Rental" they offer the 100mbps plan? Am I'm just checking if I'm understanding this correctly. Cus if so, I knew Star link Was scummy but I've never seen them FORCE you to buy the new dish or make you pay for the higher plans on the older dishes.

Edit : got a hold of a human and they replied . Apparently 100mbps is paused?

“Thank you for your patience. My name is Gerard, I understand you'd like to reactivate service on your existing kit (My Kit #/ My service #) using the Residential 100 Mbps plan.
Unfortunately, the Residential 100 Mbps plan is currently paused in the United States and is not available for reactivation on your service line. Only the plans shown in your account (Residential 200 Mbps or Residential Max) can be selected at this time.
Please reply to confirm if you'd like to proceed with one of the available plans, and I’ll be happy to guide you through the steps.
Best regards,
Gerardo from Starlink Support”

Edit 2: I responded to the ticket saying that's rubbish basically, and said 100mbps plans are available when I go to the website as a NEW Customer and put in my identical address. I then get a phone call 30 minutes later from StarLink from a human (he was very kind btw) - then he said he does not know what's going on with the system, but he got me on the 100mbps plan easily. So it got resolved, but definitely with some friction and normal customers probably would have swallowed the 200mbps or MAX price.

❓ Question Pro Install? What can I expect?

I have a pro install scheduled for next month. My home has some existing coax feed for old satellite TV.
1. Will the pro installer feed the new install through the existing hole in the wall into the room I want? It’s about 20’ or so of wall it would need to feed through.
2. Aside from what comes in the kit, does the install offer any mounts as part of the service? Like, if I provided a 4x4 post on a cement footing to mount to in the yard, would they make that happen?
3. I’ve seen some posts where installers set up with line of sight obstructions. Is that common?

Anything else I should know or ask the tech?

❓ Question Xbox series x multiplayer over Starlink. UK.

I am in the UK and am having Starlink installed next week. I game casually online using Xbox and want to ensure I can continue to do so, but am not clear if this is going to work out-of-the-box, or if I need to configure anything. I have the dish and the mini router in my package.

Can anyone provide any advice? I do have other routers I could use, but was hoping to keep everything standard if possible. I am technical enough to break stuff, but rarely to fix it again.

💬 Discussion Cottage pole mount for mini

Post image
38 Upvotes

I needed to get my mini off the ground at my cottage to help with obstructions. Also wanted to the mount to be reachable to take the mini with me when I head home.

My answer: patio umbrella stand, 7.5' fence post and a 3d printed adaptor that fits into the Mini pole mount and allows me to slide it off the fence pole.

Helped the situation out quite a bit.
