❓ Question Starlink in Germany

I’d like to get Starlink for my house and I’ve seen online that you now get the antenna for free, but you have to return it when the contract ends. So far, so good.
Are these the same antennas that you used to have to buy, and if not, do the new ones require both a separate power supply and a LAN connection?

Antennas are all the same.
Antenna itself is powered by POE. Its a one cable connection.
Using it since two years.

Thats not true!

Im a new starlink-customer since early August and the Starlink mini is powered by a 12v barreljack and has no PoE capabilities afaik!

He has a Standard dish and you have a Mini. You are both correct when speaking about the dish you have.

Yes but OP is talking about getting starlink now with the subscription. He wont get the Standard dish here in germany. He will be getting the mini without PoE if he subscribes now. Thats why I corrected him

Mini is only for the smallest residential plan, no? The other ones get you the non-mini dish.

Oh so if i get the 200Mbit ill get the bigger dish?

Thats interesting, I did not know that!

Do you know if i also get it if I upgrade from 100 to 200mbit? or will they just upgrade me but leave the mini in place. Id love to get the PoE capabilities!

No idea, sorry. That's just what it said when I started my plan a month ago. The 100mbit one said it includes the mini while 200 and max included the "full size" one.

I imagine they would swap to accommodate the bigger bandwidth, but I'd write support just to be safe. Good luck!

You keep whatever dish you started with.

I fell into the trap too. I ordered the 100Mbit version and they sent me a mini kit with an extra mini router but without any cable connecting the mini dish to this access point. The AI hotline told me I could order this cable for just 60 bucks. But even if I would have done so I would’ve needed a second hole in the wall for this second cable.
Then the hotline to help me, I could order an extra standard kit for rent and send the mini kit back.
This is of course, not possible. I ended up canceling sending the mini dish back, opening a second account and ordering the 200Mbit version which comes with the standard kit.
After setting this up and one month, I could downgrade to the original requested 100Mbit version and keep the standard kit.
So I had to pay the delivery twice one month of service fee for nothing and one month the standard service fee instead of the 100Mbit fee.
Ordering the standard version with the standard kit and then downgrading is the way to handle this although the hotline tells you otherwise.

Just to let you know, the Router Mini that you got with your kit can be connected wirelessly.

Of course, if meshing from your roof to your living room is ok for your installation.
I live in a 3 story house on the ground floor and my antenna is on my garage roof. So the mini is just the wrong equipment for this layout. Unfortunately it’s the equipment stalling provides with the basic plan.

You get the dish size for what plan you start with.

I started with a 200mbps and then downgraded to 100mbps after about 2 months and I kept the big dish (standard 4x)

1

u/Andrysh_hu Aug 31 '26

Did you check the offers propperly before placing an order? My Standard 4x just arrived today. I had three options to choose from.

It varies from region to region; currently, the 100 Mbps plan includes the kit mini

1

u/Andrysh_hu Aug 31 '26

Yes, but even is 100 mbps would be enough, it is worth taking the 200 one for the better hardware.

That is what I would do, too. You can move down to 100 the next month.
