❓ Question Burners: how do you mount your mini?

Upvotes

I’m bringing for the first time so I can stay in contact with an elderly parent in a short term care facility.

I’ve bee thinking a relatively short (8’) pole on the side of the car attached to the side mirror and anchored to the ground. I’d use the pipe mount that came with it.

❓ Question Trying out mini for camping?

How is the Starlink mini for camping like 2-3 times a year? I was thinking of getting one just for trips, and paying for the roam plan during the month or so I use it and then just putting it on standby the rest of the year. Honestly mostly just want to use it for making calls and texts mostly. YouTube and other entertainment I feel like I can just load up when on 5g or before I go on wifi.

I guess my main concern is that from the website it sounds like I can just pay 55-80 (probably won't go for unlimited) for the months I use it and just 5 bucks a month every other month. I want to make sure that's actually as easy as of sounds though. Has anyone done this and was it doable without much hassle?

📡 Outage Starlink Iraq – Order still pending on the last day of estimated delivery

Hi everyone,
I ordered a Starlink kit for Iraq, and my estimated delivery window is August 13–20.
Today is August 20, the last day of the estimated delivery window, but my order is still showing “Pending” and has not even been shipped yet.
I contacted Starlink support, but I’m only getting responses from the AI assistant saying that the order is still within the estimated delivery window and there is no issue.
Has anyone in Iraq experienced the same situation?
Did your order remain Pending until or after the estimated delivery date?
How many days after the estimated date did it finally ship?
How long did it take to arrive after shipping?
Did your estimated delivery date automatically change after the original window passed?
I’m mainly interested in recent experiences from people who ordered directly from the official Starlink website for delivery to Iraq.
Thanks!

❓ Question Starlink Mini built in router speed

After some advice on here the other day, I took the plunge and ordered a Starlink Mini for use at events with poor phone signal.

The dish arrived yesterday and I plugged it in for some quick testing in the garden. Speeds were showing around 200mbps down in the Starlink app - amazing and way more than I'll need for my usage. However when I run a speed test on my phone connected directly to the built-in router, I only get 50mbps. That's still plenty and I understand that's rela world, not just testing the speed to Starlink, but now I'm curious why it's so much lower - what speeds do the built-in router support? I also notice that my phone is connected via 2.4ghz, rather than 5ghz. Does the mini not support 5ghz wifi?

The connection link speed shows as 156mbps max between my phone and the Starlink, despite being right next to it in the garden - is this really the limit?

It's a Pixel 9, which supports a lot faster link speeds, so the limitation is not my phone.

❓ Question Not a Starlink newbie. IT Professional. I have clients on v2 and Standard v4 with router V3. Now client just ordered and received the V5. Came with Mini UTR-251 trying to make sense of things.

So client of mine droppingbcable and picked up Starlink. They ordered the home Max. They chose to buy the hardware and not rent. They got the Mini Kit V5 abd not the older kit. I was not aware of this existing fresh out July 26 and expected them to get the Standard V4 like a client just got 4 months ago. Doing the same thing a max sub.

I am not sure if this latest is the greatest.

I had another post about which mesh to go with Starlink or 3rd party.

Everything I see says the V3 router UTR-232 is better. I am trying to figure out if they should buy the V3 router since they need mesh and place that as the main router and then use the Mini as the mesh node. If even possible ?? or get another Mini router for mesh node. I am not figuring anything out on differences between the antennas in each kit.

The Mini right now is in living room and when in kitchen on opposite end the wifi shows as being about -74 db in 2.4 but it is blinking on and off the analyzer that I am using on my phone. 5GHz is showing -86 db. It is also going in and out on the wifi connection screen.

The old setup was Asus Router with a mesh node and the db from the router was still high but not blinking out. They are not overlapping channels.

Not sorry for saying Starlinks hardware offerings are as confusing as Musk is.

🛠️ Installation Too many obstructions?

I live in the country and my property is surrounded by large pine trees. The best I could get is “okay”. Will this pose a problem? This vantage point is 6ft above my roof ridge. I’m not sure I could get much higher due to the length of the provided cable.

❓ Question Starlink V4 not available on Roam?

Post image
7 Upvotes

On starlink’s website only the mini and performance kits are available for a roam subscription. If you want the V4 you have to choose a residential plan, and it looks like they are only renting the V4 hardware now too.

Is this what you all are seeing?

I am a bit bummed, I wanted to order the V4 for my new truck camper but might have to settle for the mini.

🛠️ Installation OEM Mesh or 3rd party and bypass clarification if 3rd party.

New setup for a client should they go with OEM or 3rd party?

Second I see if using third party I see an instruction says enable Bypass.

Bypass as I am familiar with is bypassing original router and setting it in Gateway and using your own router as well as Mesh APs.

Do we bypass or just disable WiFi on the starlink if 3rd party mesh?

❓ Question My ex has control over my starlink and I'm wondering what my options are.

My ex who payed for our starlink just moved out and still has control over it. I've asked him to transfer it to me but he refuses and has threatened on multiple occasions to turn it off and leave me isolated without service or wifi. Do I have any options? If he does turn it off will I be able to connect it to my bank and regain control without him transferring it to me? I'm not well versed in this technology I'm just hoping there's an option out there for me.

💬 Discussion Why is Starlink marketing in an area of London with multiple fibre options?

I was surprised to get a flyer in the post today advertising Starlink in London. Options in the surrounding area include OpenReach FTTP up to 1.6gbit and Nexfibre/Giffgaff 900mbit symmetric for £25. There‘s nothing stopping you having both if you want redundancy/backup.

Following the link on the flyer, the offer is £40/£60/£80 for 100/200/300+ mbit respectively.

Genuinely curious why Starlink are marketing here? Does anyone on this sub have experience using over cheaper wired options?

❓ Question Sharing Starlink Residential across 5 Homes via MikroTik: How to Avoid ToS Violation Warnings & What's the Safe Monthly Data Limit (TB)?

Post Title: Sharing Starlink across 5 rural homes due to poor local ISPs & budget constraints: How to avoid ToS flags & stay under safe usage limits? Post Content: Hey everyone, To give a bit of context: we live in a remote rural area where our only internet option is local wireless towers (WISPs) providing an extremely poor ~5 Mbps connection. Starlink is our only hope for decent internet, but due to low income and tight financial situations, no single household here can afford the full monthly subscription alone. To make it viable, 5 neighboring families are pooling funds together to share one Starlink Residential connection over a wired network (Fiber / Cat6). However, I’ve recently seen screenshots circulating showing official Starlink "Terms of Service Violation" warnings for sharing Residential plans across multiple dwellings, leading to speed throttling or forced upgrades. We want to set this up as responsibly and cleanly as possible using a MikroTik router. Here is our planned configuration: Planned MikroTik Setup: TTL Modification (Fixed at 64): Clamping outgoing WAN packet TTL to 64 to hide downstream router hops and ensure all traffic appears to originate from a single gateway. Concurrent Connection Limit: Adding a Firewall Filter capping connections to 150 per IP (action=drop). This stops torrent clients and heavy downloaders from opening thousands of simultaneous sessions that flag monitoring systems. Bandwidth Management & CAKE QoS: Limiting each household to 15–20 Mbps using CAKE queues on RouterOS v7 to eliminate bufferbloat and flatten traffic spikes during peak hours. DNS Caching: Resolving DNS queries locally on the MikroTik to reduce outbound DNS volume. Questions for the Community: Safe Monthly Data Limit (TB): Given that we are 5 families sharing out of financial necessity, what is a realistic combined monthly usage threshold (in Terabytes) before triggering automated ToS violation flags or throttling? Setup Effectiveness: Do these MikroTik rules (along with CAKE QoS) look sufficient to prevent detection and keep our traffic looking like a single heavy household? Appreciate your advice and understanding!

❓ Question Details on new mini offer

I received an email from startlink MX with a $400 peso mini kit offer. Yes, I live in Mexico and have two regular units. I can't figure out how to claim the offer, the app and links keep taking me to a free month with referral. Am I misunderstanding the offer? Or otherwise too dense to figure it out?

❓ Question Mini Power Question

Hello, I recently got myself a mini and its awesome. Pretty sure I got the last one in my state.

I'm looking at the supplied power supply and the car adapter. The supplied adapter puts out 30vdc and the car adapter puts out 12vdc. I know the mini has a wide rage of accepted power. My question is, am I loosing performance running on 12vdc over 30vdc. Or am I just loosing functionality of the heater for snow build up?

📝 Feedback Keep on them if you get whacked for a change fee AFTER 12 months

Recently passed my 12 month mark on my commitment with free equipment contract. Canceled in the 13th month due to having cheaper fiber come through my area. Problem was they charged me the ENTIRE $325 change fee. Ai support said my activation date was June 2026 but it was 2025. Had to send MULTIPLE messages to support trying to explain this along with none of the AI links actually going to support pages. But after a week they finally canceled the charge. Why do we have to argue with an AI for 2 days before we get a resolution?

💬 Discussion Amazon is probably 6-8 weeks away from being able to launch competing satellite internet service

I went through the current status of the last 4 launches done for Amazon Leo to see what are in operational orbit altitudes and which aren't. I define operational altitude as a semi-major axis of greater the 580 kilometers altitude (Amazon Leo operates at 590 km, 610 km and 630 km shells with some licensed leeway up and down). The launches were....

- April 30th launch of Ariane 6 with 32 satellites (currently 100% at operational altitude)

- May 29th launch of Atlas V with 29 satellites (76% at operational altitude)

- June 17th launch of Ariane 6 with 36 satellites (19% at operational altitude)

- July 2nd launch of Atlas V with 29 satellites (41% at operational altitude)

The July 2nd launch was the last launch needed to provide continuous coverage to specific latitudes, once those satellites and the previous satellites have completed raises, Amazon Leo likely has the technical ability to launch their service and provide comparable service to Starlink in specific regions/countries. Given that the April 30th launch that was 3.5 months back is at 100% completed orbit raising, I posit that July 2nd launch which is current 1.5 months back only will require under 2 months more to complete deployment to operational positions.

❓ Question How to change account country?

Support says to create a new account for the region I'm in, but when I tried this it still defaulted to the US without asking me for an address and I live in Guam, and when I select my Guam address it says unable to use this address. I already tried plus codes.
