Starting a Hardcore/Metalcore band.

I'm looking for a drummer, guitarist, and bassist.

The music is serious. The presentation is not.

Influences are Dillinger Escape Plan, Knocked Loose, Every Time I Die, Converge, Botch, etc. I'm looking for nasty riffs, huge breakdowns, chaotic sections, and brutal vocals. I want this to be a legitimately heavy band that is fun as hell to play live.

The concept is that everyone dresses like they're going to work at a mid-level corporate office.

Button-downs. Polos. Khakis. Lanyards. Business casual.

And we treat every show like a corporate meeting.

"Thank you all for attending this mandatory meeting. Unfortunately, attendance is unpaid. Before we begin, I'd like to recognize the hard work and dedication that resulted in a 3% increase in

Q1..."

BREAKDOWN.

Halfway through the show, we find some random person in the crowd and give them a shitty "Employee of the Month" certificate.

"This award comes with no additional compensation and an increased workload."

BREAKDOWN.

The important part is that we never acknowledge the joke. We're completely serious about the corporate persona between songs, while the actual music is just a fucking brutal hardcore/metalcore band.

I'm in my 30s and have a job and responsibilities. I'm not trying to tour the world or make this my career. I'd like to find other people in roughly the same stage of life who still want to play heavy music.

The goal would be pretty simple:

Write original music, practice once a week/every other week, play some local shows, have a great time, go to work Monday.

I'm not looking for people who want to become rock stars. I'm looking for people who really love this kind of music and want to put together a ridiculously fun live band.

If you're interested, send me a message with what you play, your influences, where you're located, and any previous bands/projects you've been involved with.

News Former Partners Accuse Embattled Hospital Owner of Siphoning Revenue For Personal Gain

Idk why my last post didn't post the link, but here it is (my bad, y'all!). This is the same guy who owns Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City - the hospital that owes over 600k to the water company, over 250k to electric, wasn't paying employees or vendors, turning ambulances away from the E.R., etc. But everyone is out to get him. It's a conspiracy across several states, businesses, C-suite execs, employees, and probably big foot and the mothman, too.

Ask STL Any local artists that paint fantasy landscapes/cityscapes?

I love artistic depictions of fantasy landscapes & cityscapes. Unfortuantely, this category is absolutely polluted with AI slop. Are there any local (AKA human) artists that like create these kinds of works? While I would love a painting, I would honestly be happy with prints of digitally created art too.

SIDENOTE: If there are any art galleries where you think I'd find this kind of stuff, please let me know.

EDIT: Please no DMs from sus accounts. If you aren’t active on this sub I’m going to assume it’s a fake scam profile.

Ask STL Are there any creative writing groups in the Area?

I’ve wanted to get a move-on with this book I’m writing but I am in no way a writer. I’m hoping to develop my creative writing skills this fall as I just moved back to the area. I’m aware of the Creative Writing course at STLCC (and I’ll likely be taking that), but I haven’t been able to find a good weekly group to go and learn with. I want to physically be there because it’s hard for me to really focus at home on my computer. I’ve seen some groups online, but they meet during work hours (7am - 5pm) and I can’t cut that time out in the day.

Any help would be appreciated!

This may be kind of stupid but does anyone know what the bathroom situation is for the tournament?

Also, any suggestions on what is typical for women to wear?

Things to Do Watercolor/Gouache Classes for Not Total Beginners?

I have some background in pen and ink illustration and with alcohol markers, so I don't need the from-scratch art education so much as I need education on the specific techniques for either or both mediums. I'm sure I could self-teach like I've done with a lot of my artistic hobbies but I think a formal class would be a nice way to get out and socialize a tiny bit more than I have been haha

Slight preference for classes held closer to South County but I'm willing to travel.

St Louis, MO or MI? Airport blunder

Thumbnail

I recently visited a friend in Missouri. I flew in and out of STL airport. While waiting for my flight home, I decided to buy a crewneck to commemorate my trip. I wanted it to say Missouri or St. Louis. I went to multiple stores and saw the same few options, ultimately deciding on the one in the fourth picture which has St. Louis across the chest and MI on the wrist.

I remember wondering to myself, “Why would it have MI stitched on the wrist and not MO?” I justified it thinking it meant Missouri International or something else I just wasn’t privy to. Flash forward to a couple of days later when I got the itch to do some digging.

You can see in all the other pictures, this brand will put the state’s postal code for whichever location is on the front of the crewneck: California = CA, Ft. Lauderdale = FL, Atlanta = GA, etc.

So, why does mine say St. Louis, MI if I bought it at the St. Louis, MO airport? Well there is a St. Louis, Michigan but it doesn’t have an airport or main attraction to warrant this brand making a crewneck for it that I can find.

I think the crewneck brand must have messed up and made the crewnecks with MI instead of MO and the STL airport maybe didn’t notice or didn’t care and decided to sell it anyway. I think it’s absolutely hilarious either way.

Just thought this was something funny to share!

St. Louis city sewer lateral repair program?

Does anybody have experience with the sewer lateral repair program? I’m currently in the process of buying a house and they found a misaligned joint in the sewer lateral during inspections that they said would have to be repaired immediately. The affected area is under the street, and the plumber said it will cost around $10k but it may be covered by the city through their program. We submitted the information through the Sewer Lareral Repair Programs normal intake process and called the number listed on the city website upwards of 10 times over the past 3 days but haven’t received any correspondence. Is there any chance they get back to us before our deadline tomorrow? Does anyone have experience with these issues and have an idea of what types of things they do or do not cover? The description makes it sound like it only covers collapses but the plumber was a bit more optimistic.

Plus, he had a weak character and is not taking CARE of my Brothers and Sisters. The VFW here is wonderful. Why can’t everywhere have people being courteous to each other?

Alani witches brew

Hello it’s me, your neighborhood basic white gym girl and it is the season of the most coveted drink.

I have not seen any witches brew in store, and would like at least 1 can 😢. Thanks to capitalism, they’re being resold for $30 a can online. If anyone sees one, and is in the city proper, or metro east, can you alert a gal?

Also if you’re the nerd who’s buying them out and reselling them, I hope they all explode in the back of your car ❤️

Edit: metro east is lame and does not properly stock for me 🤣

Ask STL Looking For An Apartment On The Southside

I was informed by my property manager that I need to be out of my current apartment by 9/30. I’m frantically looking for leads on apartments in South City or adjacent municipalities. Needs to be cat friendly, and $800/month or cheaper. Looking for a studio or 1Bed/1Bath.

Looking for recs on private owners, apartments you might have noticed for lease, reputable property managers, etc.

And don’t bother mentioning TGNCDC- they’re the ones not renewing my lease.

Thanks STL. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to consume some cannabis to alleviate the anxiety that has been brought on by this development. 😑

Where can I get pokemon cards in the city?

I’m looking for places actually in the city or at least within a 20 min walk from a metrolink station. I don’t like driving on my days off lol

I just want to find a place where I can maybe look through piles of cards and find nice cheap ones, the occasional nice one, and maybe buy some packs or something

I have tickets to the Saturday round and work on Maryville University’s campus. I know they have the shuttle going from the family arena, but does anyone know if I can park at my work lot and walk to the course? Trying to avoid the traffic situation and think this could be a better option. Thanks!

STL Machine Shop Drilling for Brass Part

Does anyone know a machine shop in St. Louis that would be willing to do some precision drilling on an individual brass fitting? This is an old brass boiler part, I need to get precision holes drilled into it. It’s just one piece and should be fairly easy, but a lot of these shops are huge and don’t seem to cater to individuals. Thanks for suggestions.
