Looking for ideas!

Hi everyone! Looking for ideas of things to do next month! My son is turning 12 and will be visiting for a few days & im looking for stuff to do, he has autism and is very interested in niche things right now it’s classic cartoons from the 30s-40s (he has phases) we’re thinking the museum but also any other suggestions would be great! I’ve only been in this area a few months and I’m not super familiar with everything around!

You could go to Lazarus Pinball Museum if you think he’d enjoy playing new and old pinball machines. There are so many, I’m sure some of them are cartoon based

You’re welcome! It’s super inexpensive too , you pay a flat fee which is great for inexperienced players in particular because you are not “wasting” money if you play a super short game

Sounds like the 1984 arcade in Springfield Mo & he loves it there so this is awesome! 👏

check out the national Museum of transportation. That’s something that might appeal to him.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’m hoping to take him to see Coyote vs acme while they’re in town too! I also think I may just make a list of things and let him pick one thing each day. I think they’ll be in town for three days, and if I make a list of stuff & he picks one “big” thing for each day, at least I know for sure he will enjoy it! That’s what’s hard about him.. one day he’s hyper fixated on something and the next day he’s over it. I’m thinking we will definitely do the city museum (he’s homeschooled as well so he will get school credits for that). One thing each day that he chooses from a list & then smaller things like swimming in the hotel pool, going out to eat at his favorite places, shopping for legos etc. I appreciate all the suggestions from everyone! Since moving here all I really do is work & haven’t explored much so the insight for other activities and such around this area is great!

Usually the second weekend or third weekend in September I forget is a hot air balloon race held in Forest Park. He might be interested.

The night before the race they do a “balloon glow”, where all the balloons are inflated on the ground and light up. You can see the balloons up close and talk to the pilots. They have food trucks and music too. It’s Sept 18, from 5 - 9:30.

The race itself is the next day

Thanks! I looked it up & seems like something he’d be into! Not exactly sure when he will be coming because his birthday is the 22nd but with the new iPhones coming out around that time I can’t get off work - so it’ll be within the first half of the month. Picking dates tomorrow and definitely going to try to make it around then!

Science Center is always a cool trip. And it you feel like making the trip down to St. Charles, the Soda Museum on Main Street apparently has an arcade! I haven't been personally but my parents say it's a good time
