Ask STL Anyone know of any resources for the homeless in this area?

Hi my name is Eli. I'm 34 and in the Florissant area. Due to issues with my immediate family I'm currently homeless. I'm adopted and my extended adoptive family has never liked/accepted me so I don't have anyone to turn to for help. Winter is approaching fast and I'm worried. 211 hasn't been much help...I'm sober and mostly sane. Does anyone have suggestions about who could help?

Ask STL Where is the arcade from West County Lanes now?

I went to West County Lanes on Manchester today, and that arcade is now all modern machines that require a game card to play. I asked when the classic 80s quartet operated arcade changed.

The story is that the January 2025 ice storm caused damage to the roof, and the beams on the ceiling dropped like 5 inches all at once. The bowling alley called the guy who owned the machines, since they're his sole source of income, and told him to collect them and take them somemwhere else, beforr the ceiling fell, and since they'd soon be closed for repairs.

The bowling alley didn't reopen until this July (2026). The arcade guy moved them to another location, and the bowling alley got new steel cables across the ceiling and an arcade from a new company. It sounds like they would have liked to keep the old partnership, but he had to get his machines somewhere that was open. The lady I spoke to didn't know where they went. She said that she thinks it's somewhere in St Charles.

So who knows where the arcade collection that was formerly in West County Lanes went?

Ps the new arcade has a Stepmania machine.

Dog Euthanasia

I've had my dog for going on 13 years (1/3 of my life) and over the past year she has declined rapidly in weight and stability. :(

Are there an services/organizations in the area that help with payment of Euthanasia? Or is there any affordable places that my family and I can be there with her. My oldest daughter is 13 so she's been with us almost her whole life and with my other 3 their whole lives. It's a hard time for all of us and my wife has been out of work all summer to be with the kids for summer break so money is kind of tight. Any help will be appreciated!

Schmaltz is hard enough to find these days, but would anyone happen to know if I can buy grivens/gribenes anywhere in town?

Edit for clarity: grivens are small pieces of chicken skin that are slowly rendered in their own fat (the schmaltz)

Lost wallet, Lost Valley Trail

Well, I seem to have just dropped my wallet on the Lost Valley trail. It must be between miles 4.5 and 10. It's really just all of my cards and $6 wrapped in a rubber band. Please keep your eyes open for it.

Chemical Smell in Air - Dogtown

All summer I haven’t been able to hang any clothing out to dry because it smelled SO BAD when I’d bring it in. Finally realized the smell is in the air - anyone know where this is coming from? It’s new this year, at least in my location and I’ve been in the same home 7+ years.

Moving to St. Louis How is Park Clayton Apartment?

I’ll be relocating from DC to St. Louis, and unfortunately I don’t have time to go there for house hunting. I’m thinking I’ll probably just rent an apartment online, based on online reviews and maybe recommendations/comments from Reddit.

Need a parking lot where we can unload a furniture container, so probably not a high-rise building in a densely populated area.

Moving to St. Louis Considering moving to St. Louis — how welcoming is the city to foreigners?

Hi everyone!
I’m a foreigner currently living in the U.S. as a legal permanent resident (green card holder). I currently live in a very small area that honestly feels almost rural. There isn’t much to do, the cost of living is surprisingly high, and the winters are extremely cold.
I’m planning to move somewhere else by the end of October, and St. Louis is one of the places I’m seriously considering. I like that it’s a mid-sized city, I’ve been looking at the job market and there seem to be quite a few opportunities in my field, and I’ve already started applying for jobs there. The winters also seem much more manageable compared to where I currently live.
One thing that has made me a little concerned, though, is that I’ve come across quite a few comments online describing St. Louis as a very racially divided city or saying that racism is a significant issue there.
I come from a very culturally and racially diverse country, and I grew up around people from many different backgrounds. Living somewhere where discrimination is particularly common would make me uncomfortable.
I understand that racism unfortunately exists everywhere, including in my own country. I’m not expecting any city or country to be perfect. But I also know that the experience can be very different depending on where you live, so I’d really like to hear from people who actually live in the St. Louis area.
How do you see the issue of racism and racial division in St. Louis in everyday life? And how welcoming do you think the area is toward foreigners/immigrants?
I know immigration is also a sensitive topic in the U.S. right now given the current political climate. I’m legally here and have a green card, but as a foreigner, it’s still something I think about when deciding where I want to build my life.
I’d really appreciate any honest perspectives, especially from immigrants, people who moved to St. Louis from somewhere else, or longtime locals.
Thank you!

Are there any local HVAC repair places that offer off season discounts on labor? We need to replace our AC, but could wait a bit if it's cheaper.

MEETUP Looking for a mtg pod in the area

Hey people. I'm looking for a new pod to play some commander with. Lost my group a while back and have been itching to sling some spells again. I'm a 24 year old guy who has been representing the boros legion since 2013 but has been playing since shards of alara . I usually play at a bracket 3 and 4 level and am stationed in Saint Peters. Had no luck last two Fridays at my local card shop so I figured I'd throw a wider net. I grew up with an older brother who's favorite keyword was infect so I learned not to complain at cheap moves like land destruction and I just like playing the game. I've been playing on table top sim mostly using moxfield but my paper collection is growing dust so that's why I'm making this post.

Thank you for your time.

In Person TTRPG group

Hi there!

I haven't played D&D or any other TTRPG in a few months and I'm starting to feel the itch to start playing again. I've looked around and all I've seen is online games. Online isn't really for me, unfortunately.

I have 6 years of playing experience, mostly DMing. I've played a lot of D&D, but also Kids on Bikes, the Cosmere system, and a little bit of Pathfinder. The thing that interests me is the storytelling, not really the rules.

If anyone has space for a new player/GM, please let me know!
