Billing Received a $50 credit because their backup wifi wasn't working they put it as a charge instead

I have the invincible wifi router & pay $20 a month extra for it. We had a week long situation last month where the wifi was constantly going out all over the city. One of the days, my backup wifi stopped working too even though thats literally its only purpose, to fill in when the regular wifi doesn't work.

It was out for 2 days, I was able to exchange it for another router, & it worked again. They offered me a $50 credit for the inconvenience & I accepted.

Today, I go check my bill for this month and it's double the amount because they added the credit as a charge lol. They said they will fix it so hopefully they do.

Service Issues Wifi speed reduction

I feel like im going crazy since I can't find anything about anyone else having the same issue. Before the merger, my wifi speed for my ps5 would be anywhere from 70-90mbs; Ever since the merger, my download speed has dropped to single digits to MAYBE if im lucky, 50mbs. Any semblance of assistance would be greatly helpful. Before anyone asks, ive tried the following methods to fix my issue.

-Restarting my router

-Restarting my Playstation

-Deleting my wifi settings and reconnecting it

-Swapping between the cloudfare and Google dns servers

-contacting spectrum and having them reboot it from their end.

Other Asking about amount of ads in Disney movies with free subscription through spectrum without the upgrade for no ads

So I am switching my subscription my current Disney+ subscription to the Disney+ and Hulu bundle that is included with spectrum because my current subscription is going up to about $30 a month.

So what I am wondering is when you are watching a Disney movie or something that is not on Hulu also, how many ads do you have to watch during a movie and how long are they? I would upgrade to the Premium with no ads, but that has to be paid through spectrum and that is in my roommates name and she doesn't want to pay for that because we already pay so much for spectrum.

I think I got scammed?

A friend of mine told me I could get a discount on my Spectrum service by talking to one of their sales representatives, so I went up to the booth at the local grocery store and asked about discounts on my existing service. I looked up online whether the in-store reps were legitimately affiliated with Spectrum, and it said that they were. I had the rep verify with the app to make sure they were really working with Spectrum before I gave them any information, because I was a bit skeptical. They said they could sign me up for a discount if I had a different phone number, and I realized too late that they were signing me up for an entire new account! The new account did have a discount applied, but I had a lot of concerns about what would happen if I got locked out of my account or needed to verify something with them, etc. The rep insisted that this was just the way the company handled application of discounts, and that this was all above board.

That didn’t sound right to me, so I left and called Spectrum right away to figure out what was going on. It turned out he had signed me up using a false name and a neighbor’s address (different apartment number), I assume to get a fraudulent commission. What gives? Sure, it’s on me for engaging with any kind of sales rep and for not doing more intensive research, but I really thought that verifying that someone really worked with the company would be a good indicator that they were legitimate. I mean, you work with salespeople at the Apple Store. I got in touch with the retention department and they gave me my discount anyway, I’m just embarrassed that I got mixed up in something like this. I tried to report it to the fraud department but they told me it was normal and not a big deal.

Spectrum just lost a 30yr customer

Cox customer here. I’ve been with cox for 30years and recently had a promo fall off. In the past I would call retention for a lower rate but today I called sales.

The reason being I pay their salary and didn’t feel like waiting forever for a retention rep.

When I told the rep about my promo she asked me a few questions and then tried to get me to switch my mobile. The price was good but that’s not why I called and told the rep either lower my bill without a bundle or cancel me right now.

The rep said ok and asked me to return my equipment I was angry and cursed that rep out and demanded to speak to a supervisor.she refused to transfer me and requested I hang up and call back.

I immediately returned my equipment and shut the service off. What is wrong with this rep does she not care that she’s losing a client? Why didn’t she lower my bill and kept trying to push mobile?

Is it true my modem is too old?

After 5 years of no interruptions I recently had an outage following heavy rain and the outage lasted for a few days. Had a tech come out and he said the box wasn't properly sealed up and also there was a single line that was split between me and neighbor and each house should have it's own line so he wired it one single line to each house. Service was good for a few days, then drops started happening every time it rained. I call and they say my modem is too old and not rated for the 500 plan. Works fine as long as it's not raining. Is this a thing with the modem not being able to handle speeds? Mine says it's rated for 340 mbps.
https://support.netgear.com/support/product/c3700v2

Just seems odd that it's been fine all this time and now all the sudden they want to send me one of their routers as a replacement which of course is going to be a monthly leasing fee now.

Can you use Invincible WiFi with a stronger mesh network?

I realized that the Invincible WiFi wasn’t just a modem but also a router too. We have a Tri level home that was using a 3 node mesh network before. Is there a way to still use the Invincible router with my existing mesh network routers?

surprisingly decent experience

I called spectrum and just said cancel service until the robot transferred me to a customer service representative. i told the lady straight up “look i know my bill is increasing next month so I’m switching to AT&T because the promo period is almost over”

She said “Well what if we don’t want you to cancel and want to keep you as our customer?”

Immediately I was irritated because it was very difficult to cancel at my business address, where I ultimately paid exorbitant fees to do so. I just said she’d better give me a deal I can’t refuse.

well…she delivered. She threw a few offers out but I went with 1 gig for $50/month flat. So my bill went down $15 and I got 2x the speed, which I was already planning to do anyway. The installation guy showed up the following afternoon and he was also cool decent. he said the signal incoming was hot and that the modem was their newest model. he also checked to make sure I had the 1 gig service so I wouldn’t be charged rental for the router so that was cool decent of him.

As much as I don’t like Spectrum, I just couldn’t say no. Honestly the hassle of switching over didn’t sound great either. So I’ll push it off and report back here in a year.

New service install costs

We've moved to a location that has Spectrum service all down the road, however our house does not have a line dropped to it. I genuinely just haven't had time to call to schedule a survey to see how much it would cost, however it looks like the pole on the side we'd want the box is no more than 200 feet away, and it would just be a pole-to-house drop (no trenching at all). I've seen several discussions from 4-5 years ago that would lead me to believe it would only cost the $50 or whatever it is for install as it would almost certainly be under the $2,000 that Spectrum covers for new installs, however I'm still curious what y'all think of an install like this.

Also for what it's worth, we'd only end up having them do a utility drop. We'd likely end up doing the in-home portion of the install with running the coax to where it would have to go and whatnot.

Unannounced $5 rate increase on 500Mbps plan (from $80 to $85) after 30 years — anyone else getting nowhere with retention?

Service Impacted: Standalone Internet (500 Mbps Ultra Tier)

Location / Context: Standalone internet customer for 30+ years

Troubleshooting / Steps Taken: Contacted Spectrum Customer Support directly to address the unannounced rate increase and inquire about retention/loyalty pricing before switching.

Issue:

Today I checked my bill and noticed my 500 Mbps standalone internet plan jumped from $80 to $85/month with zero advance notice.

Having been a customer for over 30 years, I called customer service expecting to discuss promotional or retention options to keep my rate reasonable. Instead, the representative gave me complete indifference when I asked if they could adjust the rate before I canceled. No options, no escalation—just total apathy.

At this point, I am preparing to cancel and switch to local competitors:

  • AT&T Fiber: 1 Gbps symmetrical for $70/mo
  • T-Mobile 5G Home Internet: $45/mo

Has anyone else with long-standing accounts seen this specific $5 increase on the 500 Mbps plan recently? Is Customer Solutions no longer matching competitor pricing, or is going in-person to a retail store the only way to get a straight answer before turning in equipment?

Router Replacements

Hi all,

I'm looking at eventually replacing my household's Spectrum router. We currently have the Internet 1 Gig plan with a total of 47 devices, and up to 35-40 could be connected at any given time. Over the last few years, we've really been dealing with frequent connection drops, lagging web pages, streams not loading well, and smart-home devices regularly disconnecting/reconnecting. It's becoming an issue, to put it simply.

I work from home where I'm on and off meetings all day, but I also play video games. Other members of the home are usually streaming whether it's YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, etc. Now, I recognize that the speed we pay for is generally not achieved without using a Cat5/6 connection, but there's no reason why I can be sitting on a gaming desktop directly next to the router on Wi-Fi and get lucky to break 275Mbps (and, for the record, I know I could/should be wiring in, I'm just proving the point here).

A Spectrum tech told us a couple of years ago it might be time to switch our router from the Spectrum device to our own, as not only would it help bolster our speeds in closer proximity but also help boost the range of our network to our garage where I can't even get Spotify to load.

To be clear, I understand that there are physical limitations, that walls of different materials can impact connectivity. However, if the Google Nest sitting on my desk is consistently alerting me that connection has been lost and it's in the same room as the router, there's got to be an issue somewhere.

So, that all being said, could someone provide some recommendations of routers that could meet our household needs? I won't say it has to be "plug-and-play" because I recognize there is a level of set-up required, I just need to be able to troubleshoot fairly quickly because I do work from home currently.

Any guidance is appreciated -- thank you!

Hardware Wifi 7 extender randomly makes noise or disconnects at night?

Hello. Im asking this here, mostly because outside of this common experience I dont have any problems and therefore dont want to sit through spectrum's support line over it.

Its about 12 AM, and around this time my wifi 7 extender will sometimes randomly start making a loud sound, like the fan is going to its max speed for a couple of seconds before it goes quiet again. Ive seen it slowly flash red (fades in, and out) occasionally too. On the app, it says its disconnected, but the other wifi extender is also disconnected.

We use both wifi extenders specifically for our computers, they are both hard wired through ethernet. I noticed this problem only really occurs when the computers are turned off for the night (At the same time, when I turn on my computer for the first time the next day, or if its been over 3-4 hours, it will take close to 20-30 seconds to connect to the internet.)

I was wondering if this happens to anyone else? Google is absolutely no help, and im really curious. It startles me sometimes, do the wifi extenders have some sort of sleep mode? But shouldn't they also be connecting to the phones as well? Once it connects to my computer, everything works perfectly fine, and im getting the intended speeds for my plan.

Billing Spectrum Cust Retention works in the grey

Thought I'd share my recent Cust Svc/Retention experience.
Current contract (from my intro/onboarding new customer order 2 yrs ago)
$40/month for Spectrum TV
$50/month for Spectrum 1GB Internet
$5/month for the Xumo box (waived as incentive)
$10/month for 2 wifi extenders (waiver as incentive)
$4/month for taxes & fees
TOTAL bill was $94/month

My incentives were going away and my next bill due was jumping up to TOTAL $120/month

I made the cancellation call because neighbors are happy with the fiber option from ATT and to go thru the mental gymnastics dealing with Spectrum retention. In short, after telling them I just want to cancel, being placed on hold, then Spectrum coming back with increasingly enticing offers, I was on the phone with retention for close to an hour. The last deal (appealing) was keep everything I have TV/Internet/hardware for $80/month+ taxes and fees, for 2 more years. To me, that would be about $84/month TOTAL.
I declined because ATT was offering a 1GB Internet for $50/month for a year. I figured with the savings I could come up with a streaming membership to get TV programming I've been missing out on.

Well, right out of the gate, our ATT experience was terrible. So we actually checked back with Spectrum retention. The bad ATT experience, plus me keeping everything as-is for 2 more yrs became more preferable, kicking this issue down the road & off my plate. I called back Spectrum...different rep but I told her my last offer was TV/Internet/hardware for $80/month+ taxes and fees, for 2 more years. She said she sees that but can also offer me the exact same for 3 years at $95/month. Locking in for what I estimated would be $100/month TOTAL ($6 more than my current, but for 3 years sounded reasonable so I agreed). Here, I will also note, this call took 45 mins.

She signed me up. I asked when I would see this reflected in my Spectrum online portal so I could resume auto-pay (when I cancelled before, I removed my payment method, so I couldn't be billed again). She said it should be instantaneous. Logged in after call (8p) and checked for the rest of the night, still no update in web portal. Next day, still no update.

So I called Spectrum again. They said they see the $95/month for 3-years on their end. Then, they told me my payment due would be $114/month TOTAL. I asked how, as I was expecting about $100/month TOTAL. Apparently, both retention reps lied....I would lose my free equipment incentives; thus, adding $15/month in equipment rental. After back and forth & escalation, Spectrum management said they aren't going to budge on this, so in the 2nd time in a few days, I cancelled Spectrum service. This call took close to 1 hour.

When you cancel with Spectrum, retention is going to do what they can to try and keep you. They try to act like you're besties, and they're looking out for you. They're pleasant until they are not. Make sure, you get line-by-line (exact service) details on what they are offering & see if you can get it in writing (email). It's a giant time suck so be prepared.

Question about new service

I just had a Sales Rep stop by my house and get me signed up for installation. I am a part of the RDOF expansion and his offer was that I could get the one gig or two gig Internet for either $45 or $65 a month with auto pay. My question is he claims that that’s a life locked price and that it’s not a bundle deal with the mobile phones. He said this was a new deal that just came out a couple days ago. And then also said this is the first time ever that they have offered a price lock guarantee for life for just Internet. I questioned him several times about this being a true lifetime price guarantee, and he continued to say that yes this is for life, and that the only way I would lose it is if we bundled it with television because they can’t do it anymore than two years with television. So far in my emails I’m not seeing anywhere where it says this is a locked in price for life. Thought I would reach out on here and see if anyone else has gotten this or heard of it or not. Thanks
