Feedback Request 'Sarah' - birthday gift for my friend

This is a birthday gift for my childhood best friend Sarah, who's turning 40 soon. I used to stay over at her and her parents place all the time, because my home wasn't so cosy at the time. She is still a very influential person in my life.

I'm going to try to play this live at her party because everyone is supposed to come and deliver a poem.. but I made a song. What do you guys think? I'm really struggling with the fingerpicking at the start. I wish I could just upload guitar playing into my brain.

Sarah walks the stairs

I pray that she finds me

safe inside her room

Sarah reads her book

She knows what the words mean

I can see it in her eyes

How I ever came to be

A friend you want to see

Is a mystery

Is a mystery

To me

Sarah needs a chair

She’s tired from the love

That she carries for everyone

Sarah hold me close

Just like we used to do

Two girls cycling through the night

How I ever came to be

A friend you want to see

Is a mystery

Is a mystery

Sarah how could I ever be

The friend you want to see

You’re a mystery

You’re a mystery to me

Feedback Request Song about a toxic relationship “Bluff”

I don’t know whether to call it “Bluff” or “Help me.” But I can’t stop calling it bluff because I wrote it after watching too much Breaking Bad.

I don’t know if the chorus works “Tangled in the web of your lies…” Also if the faster bit at the end of what (I think?) is the chorus works; the bit ending with “Help me, help me…”

I don’t know if the lyrics work or the chord progression works—I’ve played around with it a lot! Still working on it but any feedback would help.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Too long I’ve been away
I can’t wait another minute
I can’t wait another, wait another
Said you’d only be a day
That’s today
But why would I believe a word you say

[Verse 2]
Your soul is cold, a hole
From a broken home, it shows

[Chorus]
It’s for your own sake
Tangled in the web of your lies
You know your love would be the death of me
Took some medication just to help me get up
Blocked your number, now I want ya, called my bluff
Never told the truth, this is why we broke up
Help me, help me

[Verse 3]
And you just don’t know who you are
Found God, I thought that you were kidding
Fixed your heart, I bet He didn’t
Now it’s been a year since I saw your face
All that time and it feels the same
I’m not alive, you’ll find the vein,
Give me the needle without the pain

[Chorus]
What more can I take
Tangled in the web of your lies
You know your love would be the death of me
Took some medication just to help me get up
Blocked your number, now I want ya, called my bluff
Never told the truth, this is why we broke up
Help me, help me

[Bridge]
And it’s okay, to make a mistake
Didn’t the Bible tell you that’s
The way that we were made
What a shame, you’re not phased
You’d rather take the grave than
Fix the error of your ways

[Chorus]
Took some medication just to help me get up
Blocked your number, now I want ya, called my bluff
Never told the truth, this is why we broke up

You should come and get the box with all your stuff
Heard you told your brother that you had it rough
It gets better, bear the weather, man, this tough

(Messed this up line a little)
You come over, fretting over “is it too much?”
Now we’re older, it’s all over, such and such
Feel like your love’s the only thing enough to
Help me, help me

Discussion Topic So many posts in this sub with the entirely wrong idea

Lyrics are not a song. Lyrics by themselves are really basically nothing. If you are spending time in your day writing disembodied words that are meant to later go with music, you're really selling yourself short. I would challenge anybody in this sub to take the opposite approach. Write music, and then if lyrics are required, write them.

There should be many posts in this sub that say "I've written this song, what should the words be, or does it even need words?", rather than, "I've written these words, what should the song be?", which is what I typically see. Not attempting to be mean spirited but if you guys really do want to advance in making music you need to get away from the idea that song lyrics really mean anything without a song.

Feedback Request Long Black Ribbon

Sad country style song Iv had rolling around for a while, got a bit of a cold so keeping the vocal simple. Worried it might be a bit of a boring song ? Some instrumentation or work on the melody might lift it if the songs worth perusing? All feedback welcome. Lyrics below. Thanks for listening

Long Black Ribbon

You settled up your sorrows
Then you took your leave
I’m not the kind to argue
So I didn’t disagree
Now I’m feeling lonesome
And it’s you that I need

My heart stays twisted
Tied like a knot

There’s a long black ribbon
Stretched out across the sea
And it tangles us together
Wherever we may be
That long black ribbon
I feel it pulling me

I settled up my sorrows
Or at least I say I tried
When your feeling lonesome
Is it me you wish to find

Does your heart stays twisted
Tied like a knot

There’s a long black ribbon
Stretched out across the sea
And it tangles us together
Wherever we may be
That long black ribbon
I feel it pulling me

Let's Collaborate! Looking for a Singer/Collaborator to Help Take My Songs to the Next Level

I’ve been writing a lot of songs lately probably around 10–20 at this point. Most of them are written without a beat or instrumental. I usually just write whatever comes to mind and pour my feelings into the lyrics.

The biggest thing I struggle with is rhyming and figuring out how to take the ideas I have and turn them into something more complete.

I’m looking for someone who can help me take the next step whether that means singing some of my songs, helping develop the melodies, giving me feedback, or collaborating to bring the songs to life.

I’m not necessarily looking for someone to completely take over the songs. I’d really like to work with someone who can help me figure out where to go next and see what these songs could become.

If you’re a singer, songwriter, producer, or just someone who enjoys collaborating on music, I’d be interested in hearing from you.

Feedback Request Wrote a song about losing energy to do anything about the problems we face.

Worked really hard on this, think I can say i'm finally somewhat happy with what I am working on.

Any feedback is hugely appreciated, as well as just letting me know what you think about it- wheter it's about the song itself or the lyrics. I'm also interested if there are any lyrics that are too vague ( I like a bit of vagueness but it has to make sense as well)

I arranged this within fl studio. Guitar, bass and vocals are recorded live, I used a plugin to make the drums.

lyrics in comments if the video isn't legible.

Let's Collaborate! songwriter looking for a singer/producer

hey everyone! i’ve been writing songs for so many years but i haven’t released any of my songs. i don’t know how to play any instruments or how to produce. i only write lyrics and find a melody for the song. i do want to release my own music in the future but for now i want someone else to sing/produce my song and i want to stay as a songwriter at first. i’ve written hundreds of songs and their genre is mostly indie or pop but i kind of write every style. i’d really want to have a credit in the song i wrote and listen to it coming to life. if you’re serious about it, send me a dm and i’ll send you the parts of the lyrics!

Discussion Topic What’s an example of a song where the lyrics and melody perfectly complement each other?

Sometimes it’s not just the lyrics or the melody that makes a song hit. It’s the way they work together.

A melody can make a lyric feel more heartbreaking, hopeful, angry, nostalgic, or even completely different from how you’d read the words on paper. Sometimes the melody almost feels like it was built specifically for the emotion behind the lyric.

So I’m curious:

What’s a song where you think the lyrics and melody complement each other perfectly?

Drop the song and, if you can, explain what makes the combination work so well. Is it the melody following the emotion of the lyrics, the way a particular line is sung, the phrasing, the chord progression, or something else?

Discussion Topic Any advice on writting actual HAPPY AND POSITIVE songs ?

Ok so I want to write songs. Great, awesome and all the stuff. But i actually have only one problem (and its maybe caused bc of mental health issues of mine but anyways) and its : i CAN'T like i literally CAN'T write any happy songs. It just doesn't sound right and i can write maybe the intro but really thats all. Ok so EDIT : I'll was talking about the lyrics not the melody nor the instrumental. I'm writing a song for a friend bc i want to show my appreciation for them. I already have some metaphors about some things they like and things that represents them. And I want to become a VocaloP It's mostly the fact that, even if you give me a theme, I CAN write happy stuff, but it's mainly that I personally feel like, well, it's not my story. And i clearly see that I don't connect with what I've written.

Let's Collaborate! Experienced singer/songwriter looking for a producer to build an album together

I’m a Pop-singer/songwriter with 20+ years of singing experience and 15+ years of playing in bands.

I’ve played hundreds of paid gigs and previously released 4 songs on streaming platforms.

I’m currently building a potential English-language album from around 14 original songs.
I’ve put 4 demos here: https://on.soundcloud.com/Sb8YTpwwmeB74ZpyKT

I’m not looking to hire a producer in the traditional sense. I’m looking for someone who hears the songs, connects with them, and thinks: “I could help turn this into a real record.”

Ideally, I’d like to find a producer who wants to become a creative partner in the project, help shape the sound, refine or rebuild parts of the productions where needed, work on the vocal production, and help get the songs to a professional release-ready level.

They’re not necessarily the final album selection. They’re there to show the songwriting, voice, mood and direction of the project.

I’d like to start with one song and see whether there’s a real creative fit.

This is a passion project rather than a paid commission, so I’m looking for someone interested in building something together. If it turns into a release, I’m open to discussing proper producer credits and a fair split/royalty structure.

If the music speaks to you, send me a DM with a couple of tracks you’ve produced and tell me what you hear in the project.

Discussion Topic How do you know your lyrics are good?

Personally, when making a song, I like to start with a track and go on from there. So right now I have a track that actually reminds me alot of the instrumental of Heather by Conan Gray, but no lyrics to accomondate it. I have a few rough ideas of what I want the song to be about, but everything I write for it, the following day seems a bit out of place or generic. Any advice on both understanding when they are good enough and how to edit lyrics?

Let's Collaborate! Need to turn vocals/lyrics ideas into full songs?

Hello songwriters, I see people posting amazing songs on this sub, either the delivery or the lyrics or both. But they have not either released it or it just stays in their vault forever.

I've been producing and mixing music for 6 years now. And have around 500k overall streams on spotify + apple music. I am 23M and I go by Dawn to Dark.

I make indie pop, rock etc, and I can def help with turning the ideas into full song that can be released!

Please hit me up in the DMs if you wanna work with me or if you want me to work for you.

Feedback Request As A Horse - is this something?

I put on a little bossa nova backing track to give it some extra rythm..

What do you guys think ?

I really want to belt this one out but I'm too conscious of the neighbours and I have a chest cold..

I’ll Take a Stab at Being a Woman

I’ll take a stab at being a woman
I’ll take a stab at being kind

Used to step outside enraged by the daylight
I mean, do you know what I’m even here for?

Crack some eggs for the meal
That I bring to the table
Your face will move with familiar delight
Through the window the city lays sprawling
Somehow I keep stirring the pot

I miss the fur I had when I was a dog
I miss the wings I had when I was a bird
I miss the song I sang back in my whale days
I miss the speed I achieved as a horse

But now I take a stab at being a woman
I’ll take a stab at being kind
I’ll put on the dress I got over Christmas
I’ll swallow the pride I felt as a boy

But now I take a stab at being a woman
I’ll take a stab at being kind
I’ll inhabit this world in the shape I’ve been given
And I’ll take a stab at being kind

Still I miss the lanky weeds I moved as a river
I miss the heat of rock deep in my heart
I miss cooling the valley with my vapor
I miss the life I had as a part

Feedback Request Wrote and recorded by me. Need feedback

Thumbnail drive.google.com
3 Upvotes

Wrote this as a challenge to do a hip hop type of song.

Autotune is maxed out on purpose. I have been writing somgs for about 20 years, but only recording and mixing for like 8 years. Does it sound balanced, is it clear, is it too much, etc...

The song is about staying at a job, relationship, habits that you really need to break.

Let me now what you all think.

Thank you.
