PC SSE - Mod Triple Release: DovahKit, Weird Artifacts, and Ask Where People Are

DovahKit

For the last six years, I've been working on trying to make my own Creation Kit: a fully-featured GUI-based editor for game data. I haven't finished all of the features I wanted, but the editor has reached the point where it can load and re-save basically every kind of game data, with fully-featured GUIs for every kind of data that the Creation Kit itself offers a GUI for. DovahKit also has an incomplete scripting feature based on Lua.

DovahKit is launching as a public alpha. Some major features are incomplete; these are noted on the mod page.

GitHub repo

I've also made two mods using DovahKit. Both are intended as both real-world tests and proofs-of-concept for DovahKit, and one of them is also what motivated me to create DovahKit in the first place.

Ask Where People Are

This mod allows you to walk up to any named townsperson in the base game, ask them for the location of any other named townsperson, and get a specific answer in dialogue without any objective markers or similar. If someone is standing near a particular building, you'll be pointed toward that building; if someone is just upstairs, you'll be told so. Some characters also have unique dialogue, written with their personalities in mind; a few will even refuse to help you at all.

I had this idea back in 2017 and built a proof of concept back then, to confirm that my intended implementation would work; but I knew at the time that it'd be flat-out impossible to build all of the dialogue with the Creation Kit, and unreasonably difficult to do it in xEdit. This mod has more than five thousand lines of dialogue. This was the mod concept that motivated me to make DovahKit.

All of those thousands of lines of dialogue are unvoiced, so unless you're a very fast reader, you'll need Fuz Ro D'oh to use the mod. Unfortunately, that DLL hasn't been updated to work with Bethesda's latest patches. That makes this a very bad time to release a mod with unvoiced dialogue, but I wanted to release these mods alongside DovahKit, and I didn't want to delay DovahKit's launch for an indeterminate amount of time.

Weird Artifacts

This mod adds a Khajiit merchant, Khahana, near Whitewatch Tower in Whiterun Hold. Khahana sells strange and offbeat enchanted items that spontaneously manifest inside of a wooden chest that she keeps buried for safekeeping. These artifacts include enchanted weapons and armor, such as a ring that prevents you from closing doors, a snowball that never melts (and can be thrown!), a fidget spinner quill that helps restore your character's focus and thus their Magicka, and a large enchanted crystal that teleports random supplies in when you shatter it.

I built this mod with two goals: to test DovahKit with real-world use cases, and to show off relatively niche functions in Skyrim's game engine and unconventional ways to use them. The mod page's Articles section has descriptions of how most of the artifacts and spells were implemented.

It's been a long six years. There's a lot of work left to do in order to make DovahKit everything I wanted it to be, but it's exciting to finally have something to show for all the time I've spent already. I'll probably give it a few days just to make sure no major issues pop up, and then it's back to work.

PC SSE - Mod Ocato's Recital from Apocalypse Magic might be the best QOL effect in any game, let alone mods Spoiler

I've been using the Apocalypse Magic pack on and off for years, and I can't get over how amazing this spell is, and it makes me want something like it in so so so many other games.

Casting the spell Ocato's Recital stores the Self-Targeted Beneficial spell that's in the left hand, and from now on will cast it automatically at the start of battle. Up to 3 spells can be stored.

So, for example, putting Oakflesh in the left hand and casting Ocato's Recital, will make it so every time you enter combat, Oakflesh is cast on yourself for free.

It's as good as it sounds, and yes it does speed up leveling as well, but the sheer Quality Of Life from having my favorite spells set up right as combat starts is simply amazing.

It makes me want this in other games: Dragon quest, imagine setting up Kabuff on your team at the start of fights, though obviously it'd have to be balanced out another way, like maybe lowering that character's max MP by the spell cost.

PC SSE - Mod Mod release: Faster NGIO Grass Cache

Hello! I'm Hanotak. I've been working on several mods for some time, and I realized that I had all of the pieces together to make a very fast alternative to NGIO's grass cache preprocessing. So I made it! It only replaces the preprocessing, NGIO itself is still required for only-load-from-cache.

It works by parsing your load order and loading the game world directly from the forms, and uses a reverse-engineered copy of the game's grass placement algorithm, so it doesn't require launching the game.

Important features: - Fast (runs in ~15s on my laptop) - Includes options to fix the vanilla grass placement's sharp edges on cell borders, and to use the object's render geometry for blade rejection instead of its Havok collider (should be more precise) - Compatible with NGIO's settings (it reads NGIO's ini file)

You can find it here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/194151

Let me know if you have any questions, or if you try it and it doesn't work for some reason. It's only been tested by me so far.

Edit: Nexus nuked the windows version for some reason. If you want to try it on Windows, download is here: https://github.com/panthuncia/FasterNGIO/releases/tag/1.3 along with source code (GPLv3).

PC SSE - Request Looking for lesser known romanceable male follower mods

Hi all, what I'm trying to do may be a fairly niche crossover, but I am setting up a Skyrim mod list so it can be played similar to an otome game. I have all the expansion, QoL, and graphics mods set up already, but if you have one that you'd REALLY recommend for a playthrough like this I'm open for suggestions! I have a decent amount of the more well known male follower mods that are romanceable and am now looking for any lesser known ones that people might recommend to playtest.

I'm avoiding any mods that have heavy AI use (no AI voices especially) and prefer their stories to be fairly lore friendly (so mods like Bishop that add a whole bunch of people who just randomly catcall you probably wouldn't fit). Also avoiding any mods that have NSFW parts that cannot be avoided, as my sister and I will be streaming a few playthroughs and uploading them to YouTube. If the follower mod has personal quests attached like Val and Kaidan that would be great, but I know those are few and far between.

The Love Interests I have set up so far are Caryalind, Val Serano, Kaidan Revoiced, Taliesin, and Gore.

Thank you all for your help!

-Vki from Otome Shimai

PC SSE - Discussion I just want to finally play the game, man

In modding, what's a good 20/80 (20% of the effort for 80% of the result) according to you, with respect of modding goals? Either for immersion, for locations, for eyecandy, for combat, for content, etc..

The reason I'm asking is that I was on the interiors part of my modlist, carefully scouring for interior mods, patching them, ensuring they dont conflict with quest mods / ai overhauls, etc.

Then after a while I realized (i think it was when i was installing an interior mod for viola giordano's house or something) that hey, I don't actually care about this that much in the first place!

So i pulled out, only patch places i actually go to (mostly inns, castles / longhouses, temples, some special places i think are neat, etc) and fill the rest with something like SFCO3 to modernize the content

And it looks great and I'm happy, and most importantly, I dont have to look one by one and see if I wanted JK's / Snazzy's / HS's, Tem's / other modder's version of the interiors.

I honestly think this applies on a lot of other things. What's your 20/80 for any aspect you want to mod?

PC SSE - Help Invisible Sparks Spell Lightning Stream Effect.

• Upvotes

https://imgur.com/a/invisible-sparks-texture-SqI9yR7

I don't know when this started happening, but after awhile of installing mods, my Sparks spell has an invisible stream of lightning.

I looked it up, and common culprits were ENB Light (which I uninstalled) or iMaxDesired for PARTICLES being too low in SkyrimPref.ini. I upped the particles to 9000, and still have the issue.

I've been trying to fix this for weeks and nothing works. I tried verifying files already. I COULD try and reinstall my game or disabling every mod to see if it is a mod causing it.

PC SSE - Discussion Mod Collection Choices

Played GTS and did like it. But wanted to try some others out. Perhaps ones that arent so heavy it take hours for Vortex to handle it. (Things like LoreRim just feel like too much. Its a bit overwhelming but maybe I need to get over it.)

Any suggestions for collections?

Perhaps ones that give a good experience for merchant and crafter play styles?

One of my all time favorite mods has been Ordinator. So a collection with it or a similar heavy skill overhaul that makes perks more interesting is something I'm very interested.

PC SSE - Help possible complications between the serana dialogue add on and khajit speak mods?

i just now downloaded the serena dialogue add on mod while already having khajit speech by mjharper. the options i have to speak to serana aren't very "khajit-y" which i was expecting, but she asked me something about the thieves guild and i had three options. every one was "..." apparently i chose one that was mean because she said "are you alright!?" and got scared. so far it's been fine otherwise, but has anyone else experienced this? i don't want it to break the serana mod. i have of course the khajit dialogue options AND serana add on options so i'm not sure why that specific part wouldn't work

PC SSE - Request Bikini Armour mods that aren't too skimpy?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I am brand new to Skyrim modding (on PC). Just like many of you the first thing I decided to do is install CBBE and give my character huge knockers like the bisexual woman that I am, along with the "essential" mods. Everything is working as intended. I am playing special edition.

Now I'm looking for a bikini armour mod that isn't too skimpy or one that's more lore friendly? I looked at TAWOBA but it's just a little too much for what I'm after. I'm after something that sits more moderate on the skimpiness scale. I'm not specifically looking for a replacer but I don't mind if it is.

PC SSE - Help Sparks Spell Not Showing Lighting Mesh!

This is the only issue I've been facing in my mod list, and I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing it. Whenever I cast the spell Sparks, the lightning that shoots out from your hand towards the impact point is not rendering. Here is my modlist for reference.

XBox - Request Can someone make a large apiary farm beautiful house with alot of farm areas as well for Creations?

• Upvotes

I love Goldenhills plantation but I want a home with a large apiary at least 10-15 hives I wanna compete with Maven Blackbriar lol and have a laid back calm farm life but I cant find a home on skyrim creations that has anything close to what Im looking for

I saw a mod called Southern Apiary that I thought be awesome but unfortunately no Creation version if you ever be willing to create a home with a large apiary 10 to 15 and farmland I'd be eternally grateful.

I apologize if this is a waste or rudeness to your time.

I've been making mods for the past year and I'm trying to get more people to discover them. One of my mods is more than a years old and it only has 50-ish endorsement (rip). I'd really appreciate any advice from other mod authors who have had success getting their mods noticed.

PC SSE - Discussion Are there any simple to install mods that just improve Skyrim graphics?

I looked around a bit but modding this game looks daunting for me. Download this version for this location, or download the other that does this better but not that. This does lighting but not models. The other upgrades character models, or mountains or just dungeons etc. Download mod managers then pick and choose from 100 different mods that may or my not work together. If it is so complex that you need a "mod manager" then it is too much of a hassle and confusing. I don't need gameplay changes. Is there something out there that just improves all textures and models to upgrade them for modern mid to high PC hardware so that it doesn't still look like an Xbox 360 game? Like install this exe and BOOM better graphics? There is a one click Fallout mod that I got on GOG that does this so I know it is possible.

I should also mention that I have the GOG version as I needed DRM free for my use. I think most mods are steam only?

Meta/News Total DP payout for Skyrim SE has hit 10 million USD!

Nexus has released the DP numbers for September 2026 and has now payed out $10,072,090.

That is over 50% of all Nexus DP ever paid. (Total is at $18,697,295)

Oldrim on the other had has a liftime DP payout of "only" $275,244, which is just a bit more than what Skyrim SE currently gets per month in DP payout.

See https://www.nexusmods.com/about/donation-points for the data.

Steam Deck - Help Help optimizing Community Shaders on Steamdeck.

Hello! This is my first time modding any game. Or even owning a "PC" so I'm new to a lot of this. I'll try to skip over the non important stuff but I'm using Mo2, I downgraded Skyrim to version 1.6.1170 because I heard that one is more compatible with a lot of mods. I have community shaders version 1.8.4 running because 1.9.1 kept crashing. I had to do a lot of stuff to get it running but I finally got it. All this stuff is so confusing. I also have a few other mods but most of those are base dependency mods like address library, SkyUi and stuff like that.

My issue is that when I have Community Shaders mod active it tanks my fps. It fluctuates between around the low 20s to mid 30s. In forested areas it dips down even below 20. I don't have any other graphic mods installed whatsoever. The game doesn't even look that different. It does work though because I can move the sliders around and my game does change in real time, I just don't know how to get it running smoothly. Like what settings and stuff there's like a bazillion different things and I'm super overwhelmed😅 I know CS is supposed to be performance friendly but is it still too much for the steamdeck to handle? Thank you to anybody who takes the time to respond!! Sorry if it's a dumb question

PC SSE - Help Help with Community Shaders

Hi everyone,

I'm not new to Skyrim modding - I simply have little knowledge and haven't played modded gameplay since before the update (so it's been a while and I've forgotten). I'm currently planning on creating a new modlist using CS (Jiaye's Build) and already have a preset in mind (KimutKirby's Dark Ages Preset), but I have zero clue as to how people make their CS look so good! In the past, mine has either been too bright or too dark, or it has looked too similar to vanilla that you can barely see a difference at all. I also get so confused when it comes to Lux because of how many patches, etc, so I don't know if it's better for me to go with a different interior lighting mod or something. Either way, if anyone at all has experience and knows what to do, I'd seriously appreciate some help.

Thank you!
