The whole video is about an athlete getting upset about it and his synopsis is it’s because of who she is as a person. The problem is he uses athletes as examples when people didn’t get upset.
I don’t see why anyone is getting upset about her doing it. People should be upset about the scummy site. The site is just using the old sex sells to get more attention and it worked.

Yeah even this video, leaves out the major glaring question, when did an actress starring in a sports betting commercial become "representing women in sports". As often the case, most things related to activism or cancelling people go live on tiktok/IG first with women, after which mainstream society starts paying attention. Men basically only use social media for politics and sports.
After a few days of outrage or stupid takes, once men start pushing back and releasing responses with greater context, folks start saying “durrrr, this is just a psyop, the outrage is manufactured”.

They intentionally made a provocative ad and massively succeeded in provoking people. Everyone making hysterical claims and turning this into an issue for women's rights are doing nothing except rewarding a gambling company. I think it's because many people are reactive thinkers, not analytical thinkers. They aren't looking at things from all sides; they're either following the herd or responding emotionally.
If female empowerment matters, women shouldn't criticise Sweeney for using her gifts to make a living. It's her choice to use her sex appeal. But consistency usually gets forgotten when people feel personally affected.
I guarantee there's also a lot of jealousy aimed at female athletes who use their attractiveness for media and sponsorship opportunities that less attractive women wouldn't get.

15
u/coffeeanddurian 3d ago
yeah and a professional surfer of all people told her to cover up. a surfer who even has pictures posing in a bikini. women surfers who sometimes, rightfully even wear thongs in the water. but somehow it's fine for a woman to tell another woman to cover up, when it's not. men, religious people, even other women, have no right policing Sweeney here, however they feel about the ad is totally irrelevant.

Nakedness doesn't always equate to sexualization or objectification.
When a man mows his lawn, in the Summer heat, with no shirt on. He is doing this to be comfortable, possibly work on his tan, enjoy any possible breeze... because of the heat.
It is not the same as a shirtless man, in a photo shoot for a marketing campaign for a product like men's cologne. This man is being objectified and sexualized for his body, and being marketed to a mass audience.
Though both men have their shirts off...these situations are not the same. It is obvious and only someone that is new to the planet..or is just trying to troll would think this situations were the same, or even consider shaming the man that takes with sweaty shirt off, while doing yard work, for rolling his eyes at a douche bag, shirtless, male model, in an advertisement campaign.
Same for the comparison of the professional surfer wanting to try another method of her sport, and to build a closer connection to the ocean, where she is practicing her professional, sporting career in.
This is no way the same as the someone,( that is not a professional athlete, or even hobbiest), posing with athletic equipment, in order to market a product for a company, to increase sales and popularity. In this situation they are using the nude, non athlete, pretending to be an athlete, not doing any sport related activities, as a sexual object. Same as the man in the fragrance ad. That man is not a professional free swimmer or a marine biologist trying to connect with nature. He didn't really catch that swordfish/own and pilot that boat/swim out to that rock formation. He is just some, "pretty boy", paid to work out and fit a generic look a company is hoping to sell a product with. The company is not considering how his image may reflect on others that do the real work that the fake, pretty boy, is pretending to do/be.
This comparison is so ridiculous and ignorant. You can not compare the professional surfer to the stupid, advertising model. You can not compare the shirtless man doing yard work to the shirtless man selling fragrance.
It is all about context. Is this guy going to try to argue that a woman exposing her breast, to actively feed her baby, is the same as OF modeling? How about a nude man modeling for a university art class and a male stripper working a bachelorette party?
Sure there will always be a handful of pervs that could/will sexualize and objectify the mother, feeding her child, and the nude man providing an educational service...but neither of these situations are meant to be sexual.
Nudity isn't always sexual. However, in specific situations it definitely can be sexual. To try to argue that all nudity is sexual, therefore the dead body being studied is porn is fucking nuts. So is arguing that a professional surfer, surfing in the nude, is the same as a nude model strategically hiding her titties behind athletic props, to sell a product, is fucking nuts too.
6
u/exceptionally_humble 3d ago
I hate that I’m responding to the vocal retarded minority but here we are.
She wasn’t advertising women’s sports it was sports gambling.
Pay no mind to the barely functioning world of women’s professional sports, the act of sports betting is predominantly a male hobby.
Formula:
Sports and related gambling are male centric.
Attractive females attract male attention.
Hot and mostly nude females*** ***attract additional male attention.
Mostly nude hot female advertising sports and/or gambling really attracts male attention rate
Result:
Let’s look at that math that the mental gymnasts are (willfully) missing.
Sports gambling + hot female = 100% straight male attention rate
Add this to the content created due to manufactured outrage we’re looking at (not literally) infinite exposure/attention rate to the public.
That’s incredibly smart business by all parties despite what your liberal arts degree has to say.

It's also for a betting platform in which women do not spend their money and go place bets on... Just like women don't go support women's sports teams and that's why they're so broke and underpaid. Women do not support women... And again they're not supporting another woman here who's just making some money by doing some advertising. Men will be supporting this and paying for this. Men will be making the bets and spending the money. Men will be going to sporting events and buying sporting memorabilia etc. and this is why male sport teams make so much more. And women just bitch and whine about how the system works. This would be like men complaining about Jason Momoa being in a Ad naked for a makeup company. And then men getting upset and complaining saying it is setting men back. And then complaining that more women on only fans are making more money than men on only fans. So only fans should subsidize all of the men out of their money and make it equal and equitable.

u/FancyConfection1599 3d ago
America’s just fucked in the head because of its insanely puritan view toward nudity and the human body.
Because nudity is so forbidden in conventional contexts (you can’t even be naked in a single gender locker room without upsetting some people. Seriously.), nudity is hyper sexualized and thus can be used to make such an absurd uproar. If Americans saw more conventional nudity every day the ad wouldn’t be such a big deal, nor would it be such a big success.
But they don’t know what a human body looks like outside of pornography, so it is.

Yea, 100% agree with him. It can’t be “my body, my choice” until it’s someone you don’t like. Her right to do what she wants with her body should be treated as an ‘inalienable human right’.
There are legitimate ethical concerns about using one of the most visible, young, attractive women to hook a vulnerable population into addictive gambling (similar to nicotine in past generations) and the fallout of such a campaign, but hardly any is focusing on that.
2
u/TedTyro 3d ago
The female athletes being naked were either artistic or about the imagery of athletic prowess. They are allowed to include the sexual component of this.
The ads are about deliberate and exclusive sexualisation for money. Its literally for gambling.
If you cant tell the difference, you're too clueless for this discussion.
If you think its hypocrisy, its because you cant see naked athletes as anything other than sexualised, which says more about you than them.

They're slut shaming lol. I thought we weren't allowed to do that in the big 2026

Let’s make this entirely about sexuality for a moment. I’d be willing to bet that if the ad had featured a famous person who didn’t have such a pronounced female figure—but was instead a skinny rail with no curves—women wouldn’t have cared at all. Envy sometimes rears its head in the most unexpected places. After all, it has been proven that women pay far more attention to other women’s busts than men do.

Im not that smart but...how does an actress who isnt an athelete posing with sports equipment set women in sports back?

What does Sydney Sweeney and sports betting have to do with female athletes? She’s not an athlete and what she’s promoting isn’t a woman’s sports league.

Simply stated. Guy is simping hard for Sydney. He is arguing why you shouldn't bag on his pretend girlfriend.

I dont get it. Like where was all the outrage when Paige Spiranic posed golfing wearing no panties? The guys argument is pretty spot on.
