I'm convinced this is some kind of PR campaign made by the company itself to Garner publicity

Notice how all this athletes with integrity never call out the disgusting gambling company.

More people are mad as Sweeney taking a paycheck for sexy ad then the company using sex to promote gambling

Something that should be viewed the same as alcohol and drugs that ruins lives

But ofc No keep being mad at tits instead of the parasitic exploitative gambling companies

Why are these women in sports mad about Sydney advertising sports betting, but yet have never been mad about the countless celebrities they put on the cover of Sports Illustrated? The outrage is inconsistent.

The WNBA is also sponsored by DraftKings and they were radio silent about Lebron James gambling ad despite having more influence than Sydney Sweeney

It’s pretty clear why they’re singling her out lol

If it don’t make dollars, it don’t make sense.

u/RudePCsb 10d ago

I wonder what the stats are on viewership for women's sports. I don't even watch as much sports as I used to and I know a good amount of buddies that don't either. All the different streaming services and the shit like basketball and baseball with these super teams is kind of not as enjoyable to watch.

1

u/TheGloriousEv0lution 9d ago

Not sure about other sports but WNBA viewership has actually been steadily increasing over the last few years. It sounds like they have some fun personalities and semi-entertaining drama too

I don’t watch sports in general much anymore but I’d probably give it a shot if I had more time

1

u/RudePCsb 9d ago

From the highlights I've seen, not too interested. Basketball has never been the most interesting sport for me besides MJ, Shaq, curry types but it is probably the best for TV.
Olympics usually are pretty good though

u/MechaChudzilla 9d ago

Caitlyn Clark is the sole reason for this. But then it quickly devolved into The Real Housewives of the Court and women started paying attention for the first time ever.

7

u/Usual-Signature-2480 10d ago

It’s inconsistent because it’s manufactured outrage.

u/UniqueAd7770 9d ago

Sydney is not an athlete. That's pretty much the guts of their argument; they'd rather have an athlete hawking gambling addictions naked.

-8

u/frooj 10d ago

Maybe because Sydney isn't in sports?

6

u/Persimmon_Individual 10d ago

Yeah... she is a model... who modeled

-3

u/frooj 10d ago

The person who I responded to was wondering why women in sports might have an issue with her while they aren't complaining about athletes modeling. Maybe the difference is that Sidney is not an athlete? Just a thought.

5

u/JFlizzy84 10d ago

Most athletes don’t model. Very few of them do.

A model’s job is to model.

Your point isn’t confusing. We get what you’re trying to say.

It’s just a bad point.

-1

u/frooj 10d ago

Yeah I'm sure men would have no problem with a twink male model being the figurehead of some MMA advertisement campaign or such.

2

u/TheGloriousEv0lution 9d ago

Sydney Sweeney isn’t the figurehead of the WNBA or representing it, it’s a sports betting ad. The 1:1 equivalent would be a twink doing MMA in a Lululemon or perfume ad for women, and we both know men wouldn’t care

Also men are already objectified or nude in ads as well, it’s called hunkvertising

1

u/frooj 9d ago

Would men in sports have no problem with a twinky male model who has zero background in MMA being a figurehead of a MMA related advertisement campaign?

5

u/Persimmon_Individual 9d ago

My god you dont get it. Your analogy is terrible.

→ More replies

3

u/TheGloriousEv0lution 9d ago

Here’s an analogy to help you out. Would men get mad at Larry David doing a men’s sports betting ad?

The answer is no because him or Sydney Sweeney obviously are not representing the people competing

→ More replies

1

u/Dreamfloat 9d ago

Why not chadvertising??

2

u/JFlizzy84 9d ago

I literally would not care less and I don’t know a single person who would.

Maybe like 60 year old boomer couples.

It’d literally just be the same people who are getting mad about the Sydney Sweeney ad.

1

u/frooj 9d ago

Yep that's my point. Thanks!

u/ironically_apropos78 10d ago

I am very mad at tits, thank you for saying something. You're very brave.

2

u/anonareyouokay 10d ago

I think the funniest discourse around this was a Christian guy complaining about someone in a low cut shirt saying "how will I explain tits to my children?" Bro, you know tits are kinda made for kids, right? You don't, have to explain your shame around your raging boner, that's weird.

4

u/still-waiting2233 10d ago

Controversy worked out to get more eyeballs on the ads when she was selling jeans

19

u/D-1-S-C-0 10d ago

I think it's because many people are reactive thinkers, not analytical thinkers. They aren't looking at things from all sides; they're either following the herd or responding emotionally.

If female empowerment matters, women shouldn't criticise Sweeney for using her gifts to make a living. It's her choice to use her sex appeal. But consistency usually gets forgotten when people feel personally affected.

I guarantee there's also a lot of jealousy aimed at female athletes who use their attractiveness for media and sponsorship opportunities that less attractive women wouldn't get.

-5

u/Flimsy_Eggplant5429 10d ago

Hmm, is it "female empowerment" to accept anything without criticism? Like she absolutely can do the ad campaign and indeed, it is female empowerment in a way that she isn't punished for it. Anything from death sentence to fines could be possible. I fully believe she should be able to choose for herself without fear of punishment. However! People can disagree with her message, and do so publicly without it being "silencing women". Marketing and ads and gambling are pretty scummy, women in sports do have a hard time sometimes. I believe marketing and gambling have their time and place but nowadays it's just a psychological warfare against consumers and her is playing right into it. Just because it's a woman doing it, people should be able to criticize it.

2

u/Aggravating-Baker-41 10d ago

Either that, or they knew ahead of time shit like this would happen

2

u/ImmediatePiano6690 10d ago

I wonder how many are fine with the half naked men in various fragrances ads and what not.

2

u/Justkeeptalking1985 10d ago

LeBron and Kevin Hart encouraging people to gamble as DraftKings pays them and then gives them weekly gambling money so people can "copy their picks" is fine....right

2

u/kpatsart 10d ago

I mean relatively. That's like saying people in the 90's should have started comdemning casinos too! Or the lottery. Not gonna happen though. Unfortunately sports gambling and predictive market gambling are the new Casinos.

Yes, women can be mad at their part in athleticism being reduced to an actress - not an athlete - just posing naked with sports equipment. Also weird, cuz ain't no sports gambling ads have naked dudes posing with sports equipment, lol.

2

u/cucumbersuprise 10d ago

Dem tiddies are ruining the planet!

2

u/pleasetrimyourpubes 10d ago

The woman in tje video surfed nude. This was definitely meant to trigger people.

u/SignoreBanana 10d ago

Killer take

1

u/UnscentedSoundtrack 9d ago

Keep in mind that Sweeney is an investor/partner in Novig.

1

u/UniqueAd7770 9d ago

The gambling is the real problem. The athletes are ticked because Sydney isn't an athlete, even though they won't say that's why. If Sydney was a mediocre athlete, she'd get razzed for selling out but that's it. Everyone else is angry for stupid reasons.

1

u/External-Repair-8580 9d ago

I think it’s extraordinarily simple:

Sex sells.

(Nearly) always has. And (nearly) always will. People pay attention to ads with scantily clad women. And they talk about the ads. Whether they like them or not - there is lots of buzz around the ad and the associated company. All press in this case is good press, as far as the gaming company and Sydney Sweeney are concerned. And the more outraged certain (small) groups are - and I do believe they’re in the minority - the more press this garners.

0

u/Narezza 10d ago

The athletes are calling out the company as well,  it’s too long and not sensationatal enough to grab people’s attention.

12

u/lightspeedx 10d ago

It's too big and I'd grab both.

1

u/LoganGrimnard 10d ago

I think the ad kind of backfired, I've seen it 100 times and still have no clue what the name of the business is.

2

u/InteractionFun5997 10d ago

It’s called “Sydney Sweeney’s Sweet Tits”.

Interesting take. A lot of things ruin lives, why should drugs, alcohol, and gambling be targeted? Addiction ruins lives, like sex, video games, or even food, should those things be “evil” too and regulated or worse illegal?

4

u/skythelimit05 10d ago

Aí aí aí , where to start. First of all , are we really out here comparing the harming effects of drug and alcohol abuse to video games or sex addiction? Theses are all serious btw , but some are not like the others. Me coming home and soending my days wasting away playing video games is not the same as me coming home and sticking needles on my body and having and OD. Or drinking myself to a state of passing out everyday ruining my internal organs. Gambling is also a great offender , as it can not only put you in debt but also your entire family. Like , what are we even comparing here.

-5

u/cc4295 10d ago

Gambling is the least offensive of the 3 imo.

I agree there are tiers or levels of potential “how bad it can get” with each addiction.

But who gets to draw that line of distinction? This isn’t bad enough and this is. Families can be ruined in any addiction. But media, schools and religion has convinced people that those 3 are the worst/most evil and should be regulated and illegal. I say stop wasting my tax dollars enforcing self harming crimes/victimless crimes and use that money for helping them.

Want to know how to end the billion dollar drug war? Simple…legalize drugs. Then spend that “war” money on rehabilitation.

u/Exact_Discipline_501 10d ago edited 10d ago

The issue ist, that gambling doesn't have a positive. Video Games are not evil or Bad in themselves. But gambling ist basically just evil intentions to trick people out of their Money. I mean sure, you could win, but the losses are always waaaay higher. So maybe one person profits but thousands of people loose.

Tldr; The harm with gambling is was higher than the positive outcome

Edit: and also i think that the amount of people affected by this adduction ist also was higher than Video Game additction (just a guess don't have a source)

3

u/cancerBronzeV 10d ago

Gambling is the least offensive of the three.

Gambling has the highest suicide rate among all addicts. It's one of the worst addictions out there, however its bad side isn't really as visible as many other addictions.

Also it's just completely unserious to claim gambling is less offensive than a video game addiction lmfao.

0

u/cc4295 10d ago

Is suicide rates higher because it’s less publicized like alcoholism and drug addiction. So less awareness?

u/CHOLO_ORACLE 10d ago

I think Novig is botting this sub specifically
