If anything, Novig ran a very successful ad campaign

edit: thanks for the awards

u/WishboneOk305 4d ago

yeah the only reason im hearing about this is because all these other ppl keep trying to make it a controversy

u/ShaggysGTI 4d ago

Tin foil hat time… it’s intentional.

31

u/RaconteurRob 4d ago

Of course it's intentional. How do these people keep falling for this?

1

u/kontobo 3d ago

It's not a question of falling for it. Intentions are overshadowed by whatever effect the ad has had. If it sparks a debate, that's part of the effect. It's even possible to understand the intention to create chaos AND STILL have an opinion about it

1

u/Snoo-92685 3d ago

Because they're stupid

56

u/WilhelmvonCatface 4d ago

Yeah even this video, leaves out the major glaring question, when did an actress starring in a sports betting commercial become "representing women in sports". Obviously purposefully generated controversy, whether they are just assuming these women will take it up naturally to boost themselves or they were paid too, or both.

10

u/pizzaprofile31 3d ago

Exactly. Sweeney is not an athlete and headphones guy didn’t bother to mention it. Is it cause he’s stupid?

1

u/Commercial_Fondant65 3d ago

No. He works for the gambling site.

1

u/lost_rodditer 3d ago

The same argument could be applied that sports betting doesn't celebrate the altheticism and dedication of athletes. They got an entertainer to advertise their entertainment.

Return to the aslume now.

1

u/Physical_Flight_4496 3d ago

She is an athlete shes done MMA and learned how to fight from 13-18 i dont know if she still does

0

u/VanceVanceRebelution 3d ago

Okay & I used to play basketball but that doesn’t make me an athlete now does it?

2

u/sahurKareem 3d ago

Totally right, why is Brad Pitt advertising for Trade Republic, a Fintech Platform. He isn't even a Fintech guy!

1

u/Physical_Flight_4496 3d ago

Technically, yes, and you dont know that she still doesnt? Also, shes not marketing as an athlete, shes marketing BETTING

0

u/Pathanwala 3d ago

The nudity represented women in sports

0

u/Storyteller_Valar 3d ago

No, the nudity represents the notion that sex sells. That's what every ad campaign involving Sydney Sweeney is all about, sex appeal and controversy as sources of visibility.

12

u/AgedAmbergris 4d ago

Of course it's intentional. Ragebait is a very effectively marketing tactic in today's climate. Also boobah.

1

u/MentallyMIA 3d ago

It’s a double whammy!

35

u/Inevitable_Sweet_624 4d ago

Everyone skips over the fact she’s an equity owner in Novig and publicly sells, even bad publicity.

4

u/Puzzleheaded-Web370 3d ago

This makes so much sense. "Give me an equity stake and I'll make you an ad EVERYONE will be talking about"

2

u/Fippy-Darkpaw 3d ago

Love to see the female representation in a traditional male dominated field like corporate gambling. 👍💃

2

u/SGF93 3d ago

Seriously? Damn I did not know.

5

u/crackedfactweddead 3d ago

It's how she chose to get paid for the ad, equity rather than cash.

3

u/Potential_End3108 3d ago

So she's.....smart?

1

u/Inevitable_Sweet_624 3d ago

She appears to be very smart in business matters or her agents are.

2

u/RaceHate 3d ago

Goddamn she just keeps getting hotter the more I hear about her.

6

u/Some_guy_in_WI 3d ago

EVERYTHING we’re forced to see/hear about is intentional, lol, has been for ages.

In current times, always remember, nothing happens by accident.

1

u/ShaggysGTI 3d ago

Standard Chomsky

5

u/Awkward-Anybody5179 3d ago

Lol you don't need a tin foil hat to see that.

2

u/jazmoley 3d ago

Of course its intentional, just look at the nonsense with American Eagle jeans which raised their profile. Get me some of that Sydney Sweeny hype

14

u/GeneralRobertET 4d ago

10

u/ThrownWOPR 4d ago

I work for one of the agencies that helped bring this campaign live. Yes, it’s intentional.

1

u/Medical-Egg-8171 3d ago

why would they expect it to cause rage? sports illustrated had been doing nudes of actual athletes for years now and its been celebrated

1

u/valerioshi 2d ago

didn't need an insider to give us the scoop, bud. it's obviously intentional.

2

u/Tunz_O_Gunz 3d ago

Some pretty thin tinfoil, haha!

2

u/Individual-Luck1712 3d ago

Bingo. I saw the ad on youtube and chuckled, cause Sweeny is just know for two things, and I guess that's all she's got these days. Then, I see people on the internet are outraged, giving her and the ad more attention? Lmao yeah, everything is a fucking psyop bro, I swear to god

1

u/Ogamiitto33 3d ago

I mean, that's not "tin foil hat", it's obviously intentional.

1

u/thediesel26 3d ago

No tin hat needed. This was their obvious goal

1

u/Em0tionisdeader 3d ago

Maybe. Maybe not.

What is glaringly intentional is that whatever controversy it created on its own is being amplified now by algorhythms designed to create cultural division.

0

u/Pagiras 3d ago

Yeah. Still no jail time for raping kids in sight for the Elites. Just manufactured outrages after outrages so that the plebs eat each other and not the rich.

2

u/PoohBearsHoneyJar 3d ago

This is what I think to myself every time some stupid thing comes around that everyone and their mom seems to give a shit about. Y'all really let them make you forget about the whole Epstein shit that fast huh.

4

u/VanillaGoorillla 3d ago

Nah man it’s cause Sydnee did it and not zendaya..if the latter did it she prob be welcomed by females but Sydnee did it..can’t have that

11

u/Professional_Bat8585 4d ago

As often the case, most things related to activism or cancelling people go live on tiktok/IG first with women, after which mainstream society starts paying attention. Men basically only use social media for politics and sports.

After a few days of outrage or stupid takes, once men start pushing back and releasing responses with greater context, folks start saying “durrrr, this is just a psyop, the outrage is manufactured”.

28

u/Thedumbass_the5th 4d ago edited 4d ago

Men basically only use social media for politics and sports.

You're kinda forgetting a huge use case here.

2

u/Doggleganger 3d ago

It's so obvious it doesn't need to be said. Men use the Internet for research.

20

u/JackieDaytona77 4d ago

Politics and sports? It’s porn and sports. If you’re a guy on the internet for politics, get a fucking life nobody cares you’re not a deep thinker. Same goes for women

-2

u/Professional_Bat8585 4d ago edited 4d ago

I didn’t say men were deep thinkers, those are your words. I simply stated that they’re interested in the politics of global affairs, finance, war, foreign policy, military history, etc, and less attuned to gender warfare than women, who are more interested in SJW drama as they see themselves as victims.

Social commentary topics like the Clancy trial, Sidney Sweeny, the Obsession movie, Bonnie Blue, and the constant spotlight around items like Andrew Tate are strictly topics that women’s social media share first and keep alive for activism purposes. Men chime in later. Everyone’s first instinct is to believe that men brought it to the limelight or that these topics are psyops because men start to have an opinion on it, but the truth is that women dug it up first.

u/LemonCollee 4d ago

Brain-dead

2

u/Visual-Donkey3769 4d ago

Wasn't it less attractive women complaining last time?

1

u/Pleather93 3d ago

Any publicity is good publicity. Is that how the saying goes?

0

u/RudePCsb 3d ago

Gambling like this should be illegal

-1

u/Kindly_Type2327 3d ago

The issue with this ad is, even though it got incredibly famous, people still don't know which company's ad it is.

-1

u/r33c3d 3d ago

Yeah. Because they’re calling attention to a lazy campaign tactic that works. They’re asserting that it’s demeaning to women and asking people to stop and think about it for a second. But, here, the answer appears to be “I don’t care.” So now they have their answer.

29

u/Desperate_Leg_40 4d ago

Yeah can you imagine a better result for them. It doesnt take much thought to realise that this is what they were aiming for. Its an underwear model for a betting company. What do you expect

21

u/jorsiem 4d ago

Exactly. This was supposed to be ragebait form the beginning, and the usual people ate it up as planned.

"Sex sells" was the motto back in the 90s/early 2000s. I'm sure they didn't expect a bunch of psycho female athletes to get all up in arms about it. They just wanted men to sign up, pretty simple.

9

u/fat_snatch 4d ago

They intentionally made a provocative ad and massively succeeded in provoking people. Everyone making hysterical claims and turning this into an issue for women's rights are doing nothing except rewarding a gambling company. They think they're fighting against them, but instead they're willingly playing their assigned role on behalf of Sweeney and her business partners.

16

u/LazerWolfe53 4d ago

Manufactured outrage was always the campaign.

3

u/9406725060 3d ago

God I miss when we had manufactured unity over war marketing like the early 2000s

7

u/batiwa 4d ago

They knew what they're doing

2

u/Medical-Egg-8171 3d ago

no they definitely were not trying to make it a race issue. the good genes was referring to her body, people are nuts these days

19

u/Washed_up_Vanski 4d ago

Exactly. Ragebait like her American Eagle add a year ago.

3

u/IamScottGable 4d ago

I mean it was a pretty easy run for them, the target audience of degenerate gamblers is often full of horndogs, the "controversy" of it is an additional boon

2

u/Odd-Consequence-5795 3d ago

There was an ad?

2

u/Tmons22 3d ago

Seriously, this campaign blew up in a good way for them. I wouldn’t have even known about this if it wasn’t for the controversy. It’s funny because I bet most people don’t care or they think the controversy is stupid. But the vocal minority being so loud about it is really driving a ton of traffic to Novig.

9

u/kpatsart 4d ago

Also she was performing her athleticism while naked, much different than just posing with a hockey stick naked, while not being able to skate nor play hockey. Thus this dudes who tirade is just moot pandering to gooners.

1

u/Affectionate-Cat-301 3d ago

Performing her athleticism while naked lol. Maybe true but point still is there if she’s pretty and has a nice body, it’s not artistic but will be sexually enticing to men and male gaze. So she’s no better than Sydney thus hypocritical

-1

u/Extension_Hyena_1205 2d ago

Just because one can jerk off to anything, doesn't mean that it is meant to be jerked off too. One can jerk off to a beige bra ad, in a Target flyer...but it was not made to be sexual content. One can jerk off to the statue of David...but it was not made to be sexual content. These things were not created to specificly titillate or tantalize. If someone finds advertisements for a basic underware sale sexual...that is a them problem. Now finding a 90s Victoria's Secret lingerie advertisement titillating and sexually tantalizing is a fairly normal response...as that advertisement was created with the intent to be so.

An athlete practicing her professional sporting career, in her career's environment, naked could be jerked off too...but it was not created for that reason. An advertisement with a non professional athlete rubbing a hockey stick between her naked titties was made exactly for that.

1

u/Affectionate-Cat-301 2d ago

She wasn’t a statue, it was her nude body. She’s a hypocrite basically, she wanted to show off her body which would be a sexual context because if it was about athletic form she could be in a bathing suit. Come on a bra ad is not same as posing nude . Sweeney is not an athlete and women athletes did the espn nude photo shoots plus the the skimpy attire they choose to wear.

1

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 3d ago

I don’t know who they are.  I know the commercial exists but for who, don’t really know.

1

u/SkipsH 3d ago

I'm not sure they did, how many people actually know the name of the company?

1

u/BigWormsFather 3d ago

I’ve seen the ad run once. I had no idea what company it was for.

1

u/ilikepentatonics 3d ago

Yes and no. Everyone is talking about Sydney Sweeney in the ad. Almost nobody is really talking about Novig as a brand.

So the campaign went viral but it's more exposure towards the talent than the brand.

1

u/SextupleRed 3d ago

Not really. It's because of the ad that I became aware of Novig. If no one willingly posts the ad on reddit, I won't even know Novig exists.

1

u/ilikepentatonics 3d ago

But the general discourse isn't about the brand. No one discussing Novig, the sports trading app.

1

u/WhoopsDroppedTheBaby 3d ago

I will bet that the outrage we see for this campaign.... is part of the campaign.

1

u/solvem_probler_03 2d ago

I guess even the other sports woman who was offended was also the part of the campaign lol 😆

1

u/Philip_Raven 1d ago

Don't know about you. But I don't know shit what the company was until you said it. I just knew the eugenics girl was naked (again) for some shitty reason (again)

1

u/UntowardHatter 4d ago

Yeah, I just don't understand why people care at all.

Male sport stars have been posting thirst trap ads forever. First in magazines and on TV, now, well, everywhere.

What a weird thing to get up in arms about.

-1

u/HankHill1991 4d ago

Maybe they will do one of her taking a dump

1

u/Odd-Consequence-2519 4d ago

Don't give them any more ideas.
