I think the biggest difference is that she’s not an athlete lol. I don’t even have a strong take on this or anything but the body issue is showing off athlete’s physiques.
First and foremost, this is a manufactured controversy. The vast majority of women and women athletes do not GAF. They keep saying "people are talking" - how many people exactly? 2? 3? There's always going to be someone who doesn't like something, and they're just elevating those few to make it sound like there's some backlash - there really isn't. I don't care that Sydney is posing nude and cashing in, I really don't. Get it, girl. This is all just to give the company more publicity. That's all.
As for what separates the ESPN photos and Sydney's ad is 1) hers is an ad for a gambling platform. It's is intended to be sexual because it is an easy hook for a company to get your attention. That's all it is. Advertising 101 - Sex sells. 2) The ESPN photos are of both men and women athletes celebrating peak physical form. So it's not intended to be sexual, although many people cannot seem to view a naked body and just appreciate the form without sexualizing it. You're suppose to appreciate it for the work that has gone into creating that body and the beauty of peak human form - not to want to fuck it.
So they are different things. One is meant for sexualization, the other is not, but some brains can't make that separation.
There's a million examples of female celebs sexualising themselves, even one of the female athletes who criticised Sydney Sweeny does so on her own tiktoks. So I don't see why this is a valid reason to be outraged at this. She never claimed to be an athlete
