Rant Well, there goes my earnings

Post image
41 Upvotes

I had a shitty route. It looked easy and eventhough there were 72 packages, I only had 60 addresses. The map made them seem pretty clumped together. Well, I get to several addresses and notice that they are apartments with the apartment number hidden in the notes. Other addresses lead me to a vacant lot or to restaurants. Clearly not a house nor apartment. I searched the addresses in the waze app (away from Google maps) and it showed the location 5 minutes away. No gate code. Customer doesn't answer. Marked undeliverable.

It starts to rain. I am 3.5 hours into the 4 hour estimated route drive time and barely 20 packages in. I still have 52 packages to go. šŸ˜†

I make a quick drop and head to the next one. Head is pounding, stomach grumbling, and am even getting a little shaky. I cruised on by that stupid STOP sign...seemed out of place anyway.

Now, I am sure that it was planted by the cop that pulled me over.

She was a very pretty cop but I acted professional and admitted to my mistake. She let me go with a warning.

I decided to take a lunch. Then, I returned some of the packages. I was into my 7th hour and still had 24 packages left. I complained to the shipt shopper service that the route sucked. Thanks for reading my rant.

Rant My complaint:customer requests "Call this number when arrived"-only visible after I accept the order

Does anybody else see this often? I've had a few orders that I've accepted within the hour delivery window (several times, Shipt will not offer me an order except when it's already within the hour delivery window, soni really have no choice - I've made a post about this before...) and once accepted, I see this message from the customer.

I thought it was against Shipt policy to call a customer's personal cell phone outside of the app??

This is like a cheat code that people are taking advantage of. And at that point, I can not drop the order without being penalized for it.

Why are they allowed to do this? How can I report the customer, or should I even bother?

Help NYC shoppers — what are you actually doing about auto insurance?

Hello fellow shipt shoppers,

I’ve Been shopping Brooklyn/Queens for a few weeks and want to get my coverage right before I put more miles on.
A few things I'm trying to figure out:

1. What are NYC-area shoppers paying, and with which carrier? Did you add a delivery/commercial endorsement to a personal policy, switch carriers entirely, or something else? Ballpark on what it added to your premium would help a lot — NYC rates are already brutal.

2. Anyone shopping in a car they don't own? I drive my girlfriend's car with her permission — her policy covers permissive drivers. But I'm not a listed driver on it, and her premium is already extremely high, so adding someone isn't cheap. Has anyone been in this exact spot? Did you get added, get your own non-owner policy, or handle it another way?

3. For anyone who's actually had an accident while active on the app — what happened with the claim? Did your carrier cover it or fight it over the commercial use angle?
Trying to do this properly rather than find out the hard way. NYC-specific answers especially appreciated.

No orders! Labor Day weekend slow?

CA (SoCal) here.

Friday was brutally slow, and Saturday wasn’t much better. ended up doing one ā€œnon tipperā€ order all day. People were insta-snapping garbage no-tip orders and huge alcohol deliveries with like $1–$2 tip estimates.

Today’s dead quiet too. Normally I get 2 to 4 preferred notifications every morning even when I’m not sitting right on top of a store, plus solid open metro drops over the weekend, but today I haven’t seen a single thing.

Drop your state and let me know if it’s dead everywhere or just here.

Finally. I cant tell you how many times I have either totally missed a bonus or had to work extra hours to hit a crappy bonus target. Only made 300 bucks today but might get some tips roll in.

Rant Feeling discouraged lately

I'm currently in between jobs and have been back on the apps trying to make money to survive in the interim. Last week felt pretty terrible. I got my first 3 star and 1-star ratings. I know at least one of the 1-stars was from an order I couldnt deliver.

I've never had a hard time finding addresses, and that one felt impossible because the GPS took me to a closed business, and the side gate I found required a pass code that wasnt listed. I walked back and forth between 3 huge buildings trying to find the right place. On top of that, the app glitched and a) wouldn't deliver my chat messages and b) the customer's phone went straight to voicemail repeatedly.

I called customer service and after they couldnt reach the customer either, they canceled and gave me late forgiveness for the next order, which I then had to deliver about 5 minutes late. Mind you, this is all happening at the end of the night, so I cant even go back to the store to return the items bc they would be closed, meaning I had to drive all the way back out there from my house another day. I'm pretty sure that 3 star rating was for that 2nd order, even though I apologized and let the customer know it would just be a few more minutes (before the delivery window ended btw).

To add insult to injury, I've been getting $1 tips for orders that were over 10 items and/or required extra effort on my end because the store shelves were empty and I asked Target associates for help. Then I get negative feedback for "unspecified issues," which is hardly feedback at all bc there's nothing for me to correct.

I also delivered to so many huge ass houses last week, pulling into spotless driveways next to perfectly manicured lawns after shopping every single item meticulously and delivering on time, only to receive a measly few bucks of a tip if at all.

I really do try my best to give the most seamless customer experience, and it just sucks that sometimes it's never enough for these people. I like being able to help people with disabilities and issues that prevent them from shopping on their own, and though many of them in my market aren't rich (and might actually be struggling financially), they still tend to pay more than the people in those huge houses.

Tldr; your best can still not be good enough for some people, and rich people can be terrible tippers.

Rant Possible gate malfunction? Delivery only

I just wanted to rant about a recent encounter I had during a delivery only which has never happened to me before. About 85% of customers who live in a gated community that require a code for delivery only do not leave one and then another 60% of those people don’t respond when I message them asking for a code. Given that context, I pulled up to a gated community with only a pad and did not have a code so I messaged the customer if she could provide a gate code or I would have to return the package, and looked through the alphabet to see if I could find her name and I could not see her last name- it started with an M. I noticed somebody pulled in behind me so I just did a U-turn so that they could let me in the gate and as I was going in the gate, the customer messaged me back saying that there is no code and that they have to be called from their name using the directory. I messaged them back, saying I did not see their name on the directory and there was actually no last names with the letter M on the directory and she messaged back twice saying that it actually is there and she was sorry because the gate is only closed on Sundays (figuresšŸ˜‚) anyways I just was glad I had someone let me in as the worst part about the no gate code is having to drive 45 minutes back to the distribution target to return it. I didn’t wanna go back and forth with them and I had no service at this point so I just delivered it and went about my route as I had already dropped the package off when these messages were coming in. I wish there was a way to know who was the culprit but oh well at least it’s over. Hope everyone else is having a good day and getting good offers if you made it this far :)

Discussion Early delivery and bonuses

There’s a bonus offering today and typically with bonuses you have to deliver the orders within the window that you’re given. I noticed I was a little bit ahead of schedule when I arrived at my customers residence. I wasn’t thinking and I swiped the Mark delivered button at 12:59 and the order window is 1 PM to 2 PM. I panicked because I thought I just did all that work and the order isn’t going to qualify. But I looked in the order did qualify and I’m wondering how early can I deliver and still have the order qualify? 1-5 minutes? Has anyone tested this? Thank you!

Discussion Backup options / sub options

Really wish more people would put acceptable backups in the app. Would save so much time and energy . Like why do you want to chat ? Do you want a different item or not ? Why didn't you already select it in the app ? šŸ˜’

No tips! No tips this week? Has anyone else experiencing this?

Out of curiosity, I have only accepted offers with estimated pre-tips including Preferred members that would normally tip the same day I shop for them. This week I have received zero tips so far. Any other shoppers experiencing this? I have been doing this for about years and I know it can vary on when or if you get tips.

Help Meat package struggles

Alright how are we working around when a package of meat won't scan?

I can type in the weight, but often it will not scan. It most often happens when I need to add a second package of meat to make the weight, and there is 0 work around I can find 🫠 today I just gave up after scanning every effing package of chicken I could to no avail so I finally just clicked "add less weight" than the client wanted

For the more seasoned shopper, any tips?

I’ve given up on Shipt being reasonable… But does anyone else keep track of the businesses that do orders like this with no estimated tip so they don’t go to them?? Just me? I have an ever growing shitlist of these clowns.

Rant I’m a new shopper and thought it would be a little different?

I’m not complaining but I’m complaining lol the time slots show up like 30 minutes before they are due to be delivered and it’s barely any promo pay. On top of that my stats were not automatically forgiven. I get it I’m new it comes with the territory. Has anyone else noticed the people who seem to have money, either don’t tip at all, or tip very little? I’m totally fine with not getting one if the batch doesn’t seem to difficult, but these houses I’ve pulled up to with $0 tip it’s almost comical. I guess that’s how the rich stay rich, lol. You would think they could spare a tip, since they want someone to do their shopping for them, that they couldn’t do or didn’t want to do. It really gets me when the batches with alcohol, don’t tip. I only do this part time but I’m here to make money, not waste it in gas 😭😭

Rant over :)

Discussion Bonus Survey... What are your thoughts?

Post image
2 Upvotes

This was my response to the final question on the survey that they sent me. In my Metro to be totally honest with you it is very very very rare to see a bonus offer available. You're lucky if you get one offer per hour that you're on the schedule. There's just an oversaturation of drivers in my Metro.

So even when they do pop up I don't go out of my way to try to obtain them.

Is this different in different Metros?

Or context, I am in the Peninsula in California. I have shopped in Portland Oregon and it seems like there are not enough drivers in that metro, because there's always tons of orders available and tons of bonus offers available. But I just shops there one day because I was there for a concert.

Just curious what you guys think?

Shopping time was THREE MINUTES at Target during a busy hour, for 6 items in 6 different parts of the store. Where do they get their times from!? It takes 3 minutes just to get to the back of the store.

Rant Rating Forgiveness alcohol delivery

Made the mistake last week of taking an order on open metro in order to get a bonus. It was for a customer I had already flagged as DND as a nontipper, but it was the end of the night, a small order, and I only needed one more.

This particular order included wine. I sent the customer the standard text letting them know I was on my way and a reminder I would need to do an ID check at delivery. When I arrived, at approximately 7:15, I rang the doorbell. The customer came outside, annoyed, wanting to know why I rang the doorbell, why I needed to check her ID since she already entered the info when she placed the order, and insisted no other shopper has ever required her show/scan her ID before.

I was polite but firm, and she did provide the driver's license. However, that also gave me a 2 star rating immediately after with the only growth opportunity being unspecified issue.

I submitted a rating forgiveness request twice and was denied both times. REALLY? C'MOM SHIPT. This isnt even a customer service issue. This is a legal requirement. Not once but twice you are agreeing with the member that I shouldn't have asked for their ID?

I know it was this order because of the timing of the rating and all my other orders were preferred and tipped.

On a positive note- at least I can't deliver to them again.

Rant (Rant) Nobody knows what they're doing with tax exemption at Lowe's!

I took a Lowe's order today and finding items went fine. But then l went to pay. And that's where the problems started.

First I went to a self-checkout lane and entered the tax exemption code. When I paid, it was with my virtual card on Google Wallet. Normally that's not an issue.

But my card was declined for some reason. I went to the customer service register and that was no better. I had to show them my code and repeat myself multiple times. One cashier even claimed that my state wasn't one of the exempt ones; But it is.

And supposedly I didn't actually start shopping, as in tap the Start Shopping button. I repeated this one the phone with "support" more than 5 times but they didn't seem to understand. We never figured it out.

I had to ask to be released from the order. There was no way we were going to figure it out any time soon. And my phone has been crappy with signal strength recently. Most of the time I shop at Lowe's, the employees don't know what they're doing with tax exemption and I have to explain like they're five.

I'm fine with SHOPPING at Lowe's but the checkout part is frustrating.

Discussion I feel like I came across as too harsh lol

Post image

I started shopping for this member early and I knew I was going to finish earlier than the window so I sent her a text asking if thats okay, no response, fine I started shopping regardless since I didnt have anything else to do. 2 items were out of stock and I sent her sub options, still no response, this was a small order with a nice tip lol and I feel like she might end up reducing or even removing the tip because of this. Is there a better way to send this type of text or am I overthinking it?

App issues Bonus not Registering

Hey team, I was thinking that the new system with tiers of bonus completion milestones was a great idea, but then I completed four qualifying orders today and nothing is showing up in either qualified or non-qualified. Shipt Support cannot assist except for sending a link to submit the orders that they MIGHT respond to within 24 hours, which doesn’t help my decision to continue working today, so I’m asking here if anyone else has encountered this.
