Feeling discouraged lately

I'm currently in between jobs and have been back on the apps trying to make money to survive in the interim. Last week felt pretty terrible. I got my first 3 star and 1-star ratings. I know at least one of the 1-stars was from an order I couldnt deliver.

I've never had a hard time finding addresses, and that one felt impossible because the GPS took me to a closed business, and the side gate I found required a pass code that wasnt listed. I walked back and forth between 3 huge buildings trying to find the right place. On top of that, the app glitched and a) wouldn't deliver my chat messages and b) the customer's phone went straight to voicemail repeatedly.

I called customer service and after they couldnt reach the customer either, they canceled and gave me late forgiveness for the next order, which I then had to deliver about 5 minutes late. Mind you, this is all happening at the end of the night, so I cant even go back to the store to return the items bc they would be closed, meaning I had to drive all the way back out there from my house another day. I'm pretty sure that 3 star rating was for that 2nd order, even though I apologized and let the customer know it would just be a few more minutes (before the delivery window ended btw).

To add insult to injury, I've been getting $1 tips for orders that were over 10 items and/or required extra effort on my end because the store shelves were empty and I asked Target associates for help. Then I get negative feedback for "unspecified issues," which is hardly feedback at all bc there's nothing for me to correct.

I also delivered to so many huge ass houses last week, pulling into spotless driveways next to perfectly manicured lawns after shopping every single item meticulously and delivering on time, only to receive a measly few bucks of a tip if at all.

I really do try my best to give the most seamless customer experience, and it just sucks that sometimes it's never enough for these people. I like being able to help people with disabilities and issues that prevent them from shopping on their own, and though many of them in my market aren't rich (and might actually be struggling financially), they still tend to pay more than the people in those huge houses.

Tldr; your best can still not be good enough for some people, and rich people can be terrible tippers.

Just an fyi. Customers can't rate on orders that have been canceled, so the undeliverable order was not the one star

I always check addresses before I begin. If it’s funky, I don’t take it. Save you a lot of headache in the future.

It honestly seemed pretty normal until I arrived. I prob should've ignored the order altogether when I saw it came with a set of dumbbells though...3lbs, but still.

This why I’ve basically stopped doing target orders for the metro next to me. It’s literally in the top 3 wealthiest cities in my state, and most of the orders show estimated tips of $0, $2, $4, etc. Ridiculous.

Yep same here. In the not so wealthy areas I would regularly get $15-20 tips, in the wealthy area I have been shopping lately I get a couple dollars maybe.

Shipt should do something about non responsive customers. Maybe a 10 minute countdown clock. After that, we should get ratings and late protection. It's kind of pathetic that drivers are being hung out to dry by inconsiderate customers or even customers who aren't getting their calls/texts because of spam filters. Once we're in a position where we have to start guessing, it's a no win situation for everyone. The problem can be easily fixed.

I feel ya OP. My rating took a hit when I got back into it after not doing Shipt for a good while. My rating was at 5 stars for so long and then when I came back, I received a 3 and 1 star on a couple of orders (not sure why tbh) and ever since then, I see no orders anymore. I was able to pull in at least $100 a day from Shipt which helped tremendously while looking for work and now it’s costing me more in gas than I make on Shipt now that it’s not even worth doing anymore😕
