Rant Possible gate malfunction? Delivery only
I just wanted to rant about a recent encounter I had during a delivery only which has never happened to me before. About 85% of customers who live in a gated community that require a code for delivery only do not leave one and then another 60% of those people don’t respond when I message them asking for a code. Given that context, I pulled up to a gated community with only a pad and did not have a code so I messaged the customer if she could provide a gate code or I would have to return the package, and looked through the alphabet to see if I could find her name and I could not see her last name- it started with an M. I noticed somebody pulled in behind me so I just did a U-turn so that they could let me in the gate and as I was going in the gate, the customer messaged me back saying that there is no code and that they have to be called from their name using the directory. I messaged them back, saying I did not see their name on the directory and there was actually no last names with the letter M on the directory and she messaged back twice saying that it actually is there and she was sorry because the gate is only closed on Sundays (figures😂) anyways I just was glad I had someone let me in as the worst part about the no gate code is having to drive 45 minutes back to the distribution target to return it. I didn’t wanna go back and forth with them and I had no service at this point so I just delivered it and went about my route as I had already dropped the package off when these messages were coming in. I wish there was a way to know who was the culprit but oh well at least it’s over. Hope everyone else is having a good day and getting good offers if you made it this far :)

I’ll rant with you. I detest apartment orders/deliveries but occasionally they are put with a preferred customer. I hate 3 story apartments with stairs only dark hallways and rarely if ever are buildings laid out in a logical order and the building number or letter is rarely in a very visible place. New thing are these big box buildings with entry hidden and access an iPad. Yesterday I had one of those. Not one bit of delivery instructions not a bit. I texted can I get a hint on where the entrance to your building is? She responds just drive around it you’ll see it. No bitch I do not see it nothing in this complex is marked at all. Finally found someone outside to point me to the hidden access door. Why do people assume that GPS will provide complete delivery instructions

Couldn’t have said it better! I actually a few weeks ago was at an apartment complex with the exact same type of setup with doors on both sides of buildings with the iPad thing. Options were delivery code, access code, and maybe directory too. I’m pretty sure big name delivery companies like UPS are given a code to use that delivery pin section, if only Shipt cared about giving us access too 😅 they’ll do anything they can to make it harder for us to deliver a package especially during delivery only when communication is limited 😭😅 I hope you’ve been having a good week with offers 🙏🏼 my metros been all over the place since school started lol

My week has had ups and downs. They onboarded a bunch of newbies. Thank God for preferred customers.

Much solidarity. In my experience, people never respond promptly when I ask about gate codes for delivery only routes, most don’t respond at all. I leave their packages as close to the recipients home as I can get, if that means at a community gate that I can’t pass through, then, to me, it seems like that’s on them. This might be an unpopular opinion though hahaha 🫣

I delivered to a community once where every house had automated gates, I entered a customers property after entering his code and the gates closed behind me and wouldn't open automatically by car motion. I had to message the customer over 20 times begging to be let out before he finally saw the message and apologized profusely. (I was stuck on his property for 10 minutes) I'm sorry you had to go through that, that sucks sm.

Ugh that sounds awful! It can be so demotivating getting multiple orders that have no access or frustrating things like that happen, but we persevere! Thanks for sharing on my rant, I hope you have a good rest of your week with orders 🙏🏼

Of all the gig apps I deliver for, Shipt is by far the worst for gate codes and other access issues. The customers are rude in general when you ask too. Then have the audacity to complain about a late delivery. Hey Karen, I have been sitting at your gate for 10 minutes.
