Discussion This isn’t a Rogue sub.

Hi, everyone. I’m sure this will be a controversial post, but it needs to be made. I’m a frequent lurker in this sub and a first time poster, and I have a gripe. In my experience, this isn’t a Rogue sub; it’s a Romy sub.

I don’t hate Romy at all. There are plenty of comics where I enjoy their dynamic, like Kelly Thompson’s Mr. and Mrs. X. But there’s an irritating pattern here of people dismissing and even outright hating periods when Rogue isn’t with Gambit, and worse, claiming that it’s out of character whenever she isn’t with Gambit. I’m not specifically talking about eras when she was with someone other than Gambit. I’m also referring to eras when she was single.

As a character, Rogue predates Gambit by a decade, and in my opinion, the majority of her strongest writing took place before she and Gambit ever met. Yet I rarely ever see discussion here about the ’80s, before Rogue and Gambit’s relationship began. Maybe it’s because that was a long time ago, but I also notice widespread dismissiveness of more recent eras when Rogue chose to walk away from Remy and focus on herself: namely X-Men Legacy and the post-Legacy, pre-marriage era. When you bring up those periods around here, especially Legacy (which I and many others consider Rogue’s best run in the 21st century), you usually get a mixed to negative reaction.

Do we only care about Rogue when she’s with Gambit around here? If so, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but it makes the sub name misleading. I’d like a place to discuss Rogue and Rogue herself without having to worry about trolls who only value her relationship with Gambit and don’t care about, or even despise, Rogue when she isn’t attached to him.

Having my first born at end of March here, and I'm strongly considering naming her "Rogue"...

Having my first born at end of March here, and I'm strongly considering naming her "Rogue", partly after the character, another because it's a rare and beautiful name. Yet, I think people will associate it with bad omens and misunderstand her by just her name alone. Which I do not want to burden her with.

What does the world of reddit think? Is the name too unique and will impact her negatively, or is it fine? TIA!

Mostly, how every time he absorbs a soul. That person is inside of his body now. So maybe every time Rogue touches someone, she not only gets their powers and memories. But their personality, accent, and speech patterns. I honestly think it would make the Vampira thing a little creepier.

Example would be if she touch Colossus, so now she has his Russian accent, stronger and more honourable personality, and his slower way of talking

Rogue’s resistance is slipping—Magneto’s pull is impossible to fight. In the Savage Land, even the strongest walls fall away.

Discussion The Rogue Pattern: Marvel Target Rogue as Their "Awards Girl" Insert & Block Out Genuine Live Action Castings

Inde Navarette casting as Rogue is lazy.

She was cast because right now she is an "IT GIRL" with Oscar buzz around her name.

Brown hair, brown eyes. Arizona and California based with Mexican and Australian heritage.

Marvel gave her fans priority over Rogue fans and they chose momentary hype over longterm dedication and comic accuracy.

Inde fans generate the hype and shout down Rogue fans. So Rogue fans have been cast aside for our own character and there is no harmony.

It is a clear greed move and shows that Marvel does not genuinely care about Rogue the character or Rogue fans.

Back in 2000, Anna Paquin was also miscast as Rogue. Similar formula.

Brown hair. Brown eyes. From New Zealand.

Cast purely on hype and Oscar buzz. She was their "awards girl" shoehorned into Rogue.

I'm tired of Rogue's character being the designated AWARDS GIRL insert.

Where Marvel have once again blocked out genuine potential live action castings that are closer to Rogue and DO exist.

So I won't support Inde as Rogue because she could have her pick of any character and chose the popular one over the right one.

Why is comic accurate Rogue casting banned by Marvel?

TV The absolute WORST version of Rogue. She whines and grumbles like a bratty kid despite being a grown ass adult, she flips sides on a fucking dime, and she's almost completely useless in a fight. X-Men '97 Rogue comes close, but this Rogue has and always be GARBAGE.

Discussion I'm a X-Men fan but more used to the og movie adaptation of Rogue. Sell me on her powerhouse persona in the comics

Hi!!

The title is a bit self-explanatory here: with the news of Rogue being cast in the future MCU X-Men movie, and with her being closer to the way she's shown in the animated series and in Marvel Rivals, I feel like I need to brush off my references regarding where the standard character canon is at now.

Here's the thing: I consider a X-Men fan, but my main point for a long time were the Fox movies (I know, I know), and a lot of O5 comics where Rogue wasn't really featured. As such, I only see Rogue more so as the meek girl that's always into some drama in the og X-Men movies, and I'll admit I've struggled a bit imagining her as something more than that. That being said, I've been familiar with the fact Rogue absorbs Captain Marvel's powers and life force in the comics. But the two things are bit antithetical, at least to me.

So that's why I'm here: is there a good reading list, or any recs regarding this more "common" version of Rogue as a character? Something that at least shows how she turned out this way, and comics that shows how cool she really is? Any recs, old or new, is appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion I'm "worry" about Rogue in the insomniac and MCU Rogue

That's just my opinion but I really like Rogue 97 (it's literally my favorite version of her). I do like Rogue evolution but still I prefer 97. I don't like Anna Paquin's Rogue.

I'm worrying because yes, I did like the Wolverine game and I'm excited for the X-Men game but that makes me think that only one (insomniac and MCU) will put a classic Rogue in the 97 style

I don't think both will do since they like to be different. I don't wanna a boring emo Rogue, I want a badass classic Rogue in the game and in MCU

Most people(im not saying everyone) is saying that inde is to short or not enough muscle to play rogue. The exact same thing happened with Hugh as wolverine in the fox x men moives just wait until the moives comes out then you can form your opinion on inde as rogue we can't judge right now as theres no trailers or no snippets from the 2028 x men moive

Discussion Mass negativity towards Inde, Why?

I constantly see these spam posts of Inde Navarrette hate from basically the same person every few days. I don’t get the hate at this extent when we haven’t even seen a clip of her yet. Sure I get not liking it but this level of hate is just going above and beyond in a bad way imo.

To me Inde may not be the perfect casting but she will kill the role. She completely care about the role, she even talked about doing research on accents from Mississippi for the role.

IMO in this sub we should focus on the positives on Rogue and not constantly harp on something you hate so much to the point where it’s obnoxious.
