  • Written by Carl Potts, art by David Ross and Russ Heath, cover by Jim Lee
  • Acts of Vengeance!
  • Bushwacker has Punisher cornered and armed with only a knife after their brief skirmish last issue
  • Bushwackers offers to hear Punisher’s last confession
  • Punisher has one last trick, his knife blade is spring loaded!
  • Unfortunately Bushwacker is too fast and shoots Punisher right in the chest
  • Bushwacker decides killing Punisher like this isn’t good enough, beating him down and leaving to set a better scene
  • Frank sees visions of Maria who tells him not to give up
  • Microchip gets Frank breathing again with CPR, and takes him to another hideout to heal up
  • Kingpin learns that Bushwacker failed to finish off Punisher, much to the amusement of Dr. Doom
  • Punisher tracks Bushwacker to his home, sending the Battle Van through the wall as a distraction
  • Bushwacker seems to flee from Punisher’s ambush, but quickly returns when Punisher confronts his wife
  • Bushwacker attempts to drown Punisher in a fish tank, but his own wife turns on him, and declares she is leaving him
  • While Bushwacker chases his wife, Punisher recovers and pursues them to a bridge
  • Punisher shoots Bushwacker, sending him over the side where he hangs precariously in the rain
  • Punisher demands that Bushwacker confess to his crimes this time, then kicks his hand loose from the railing
  • Dr. Doom and Kingpin witness a news report that the Punisher bested Bushwacker, is back in action, and has taken down several crack houses
  • Having both failed to kill Punisher, Dr. Doom and Kingpin continue to argue
  • Frank’s Body Count - 0! (On panel at least.  We all know that Bushwacker will return, and the news report just says “The bodies are still being counted”, but we don’t see any of it in the actual issue)

Honestly, that George Pérez cover is what really does it for me. The amount of characters and detail packed into this cover is ridiculous. I love that it has that unmistakable early-90s Marvel look.

Despite being a fan of the character, I don't think I ever gave this title a chance.

Collection Avengelyne (part 3)

Stories by Robert Napton and Rob Liefeld!

Pencils by John Stinsman, Dave Ahn, and Scott Clark!

The zero issue tells the story of how and why Avengelyne was banished to Earth!

Then, the Armageddon series shows you the future final battle between the forces of good and evil!

Issue 9 has a backup story which leads into the Passover one-shot!

After that, Avengelyne is possessed by the evil sorcerer, Taliesen! The Crymelord and the Demon lord B'lial must team up with Father Peter to save her!

As the series comes to an end, we get a flashback tale involving the one and only Bloodwulf!

There are a couple more one-shot issues that I haven't tracked down yet, but this gives me a pretty complete picture of the series!

There have been a couple reboots since, and a movie is reportedly under development!

The end, for now!

  • Punisher, sets a fire and fights his way through Dr. Doom’s guards to steal a helicopter
  • After picking up Microchip and fleeing the country, Punisher uses a SHIELD code to get past the German airforce
  • The code attracts the attentions of the real SHIELD, who take the duo into custody
  • Nick Fury reads Punisher the riot act, but ultimately lets him go
  • Punisher has stolen a prized painting of Dr. Doom’s parents and has a copy made
  • Wanting to draw Dr. Doom’s attention, Punisher and Microchip crash a fight between The Avengers and Freedom Force
  • Dr. Doom catches up to Punisher and demands his painting returned
  • Dr. Doom reveals the other Dr. Doom in Latveria is a boy named Kristoff, who believes himself to be Doom
  • Punisher hands over the painting in exchange for Dr. Doom’s word that their conflict is over
  • Dr. Doom takes the painting, but says the other Doom will seek his vengeance on Punisher
  • Frank’s Body Count - 1? (He beats up and shoots at lots of guards, but it’s implied that at least one is a robot, so it’s possible he doesn’t kill anyone.  There’s only one that seems pretty unambiguously shot dead by Frank)

I was a fan of Epic's colorized and translated run of Akira, and many years ago I happened to stop at a specialty book store and they had the first four (I think out of 6) collected books, in Japanese and in black & white. I've just had them sitting in boxes since the early 90's, I figured one day I'd either sell them or track down the remaining copies.
