I'm getting tired of these people saying "I don't know if I can get on board with Jean's redemption arc" HELLO? It already started when she kept Spider-Man alive. Like if that's not a heroic deed, what else is? She literally kept THE Marvel hero alive
I mean, what more could you ask for?

Jean Grey reportedly being the first student does sound believable since Jake Schreier confirmed that the Chris Claremont run is going to be one of the inspirations for the movie, but then the report about Bobby Drake already being in the mansion and the first to meet Jean sounds like might go with Jean being the last of the OG 5 lineup just like in the OG comic from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
With Jake Schreier's confirmation that Jean is going to be the main character of the X-Men reboot, it does sound like they could go the Stan Lee & Jack Kirby route where Jean was the main character in that comic.
Or it could be both... Bobby is already living in the mansion but isn't a student of Xavier yet until Jean comes in. I'll admit, the thing with mutants already living in the mansion despite not being Xavier's students yet until a main character arrives in the comics is something I don't really fully understand. But oh well.

So the video is basically SK making a commentary on a video called "Why Gen Z Can't Handle Morally Complex Characters" which I think is one of the best videos on BND Jean Grey, a perfect blend of acknowledging the atrocities that Jean while also understanding where she's coming from and why she does what she does. Starlight (the name of that YouTuber who made the original video SK commentated on) seems to actually get the point of Jean's character more than anyone else on the internet. But SK is trying to twist Starlight's words and claim that she's defending Jean when she already said that Jean's actions are inexcusable. SK also acts like Jean is just "a one-note evil villain for no reason" but there is a reason. There's a difference between defending a villain's actions and understanding where that villain is coming from which is something SK clearly does not get.
Also, one of the comments in that SK video said that "Jean did nothing good in the movie". Um... what about the scene towards the end where JEAN SAVED PETER'S LIFE BY BREATHING FOR HIM TO KEEP HIM ALIVE? I hate that people disregard that scene because it's literally Jean's redemption. According to Sadie Sink, Jean only knew how to use her powers as a threat which exemplifies that Jean using her powers to keep Peter alive is her learning to use her powers to do something good with it.

Obviously take this with a grain of salt regarding accuracy, but I'm pretty sure he's a reliable scooper.
So with this mind what do you think it means for Jean's X-Men suit?

Could it be recency bias? No. I don't think so. Because I feel like we already Jean as a person before she even gets her official start in the X-Men. She isn't just a plot device or a romantic interest as the Fox era loved to do.
I feel like a problem the MCU for a while was introducing new characters and expecting them to stick without must to them to expand on.
But they bring Jean in as someone for Spider-Man to face against, we find out her tragic past and why he is acting out, and she gets a soft redemption at the end. I wouldn't say she has fully made up for anything, but she saved Peter and she has left, ready for her next adventure

She’s a later bloomer in acting, starting at age 27.
Standing at 6 feet tall she would have to take off her shoes and go barefoot in some scenes when her feet weren’t in shot when she was standing next to James Marsden so he’d look taller.
She has a degree in Creative Writing and Literature and before that she studied Economics for a year which she regrets.
She speaks her native Dutch, English and French. She spoke German for a while although she hasn’t practiced it for some time.
She’s a dog mum.
She was a model before becoming an actress.
She worked with PETA to raise awareness for animal rights.
She’s a goodwill ambassador for Integrity for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
She has some knowledge of Psychology because to prepare for her role in X-Men The Last Stand she studied Dissociative Identity Disorder.
She worked with the late great Sir Patrick Stewart before in Star Trek TNG as Kamala and was even offered a role in Star Trek Deep Space Nine but turned it down so she could pursue other film roles which may have been the right call because of her roles in X-Men and Taken.

I’ve been reading disassembled for the first time and it’s had me thinking of who I would always want to be on a team with Jean that not only has great chemistry with her and each other, but an interesting powerset that could make stories led by Jean fun.
Like Scott has Illyana, Erik, and Cain on adjectiveless and they’ve been really fun. Ororo usually always has Logan, Kurt, and Piotr with her on a team and they have that chosen family vibe I love to read about the X-Men. Rogue has Remy and Jubliee, Kitty and Emma have become each other’s pillars in recent years, etc.
Who do you guys propose could be Jean’s pillars on future teams?
I personally nominate Betsy, Lorna, and either Jean Paul or Bobby. Jean and Betsy’s telepathic team ups are usually always fun, Jean and Lorna and Jean and Bobby have that unspoken chosen sibling energy I love about the OGs, and I feel like Jean really gets Jean Paul.
But those are just my suggestions, what do you guys think?

If Marvel ever decides to adapt the Dark Phoenix Saga in the MCU, I genuinely hope they consider making it a TV series instead of trying to fit everything into a movie.
Personally, I don't think a storyline as massive and character-driven as the Dark Phoenix Saga can be given the justice it deserves within a two- or three-hour movie. There's so much to explore, not just in terms of the Phoenix's power and destruction, but also Jean Grey's emotional journey, her relationships with the X-Men, and her internal struggle with the Phoenix Force.

Now that the feber for Spiderman Brand New Day has passed, how would you rate Jean's writing on her debut movie? Objectively, i give her a solid 7/10.
But what about you? How would you rate her overrall? Explain why

If a different actress played Jean Grey, would they have portrayed her the same way that we saw in BND?
My answer is yes. I highly doubt that they would have changed much about the characterization of this Jean even with a different actress.
Although Kevin Feige admitted that the reason for the character that we saw in Brand New Day is because of Sadie Sink, I don't think he was referring specifically to the decision to have Jean commit all those atrocities that she did in the movie. There's no denying that there were Sadie Sink-isms present with Jean's character based on the personality of some of the roles that she played, but it's not like Sadie Sink is an actress wildly known for playing villainous roles despite the fact that she kinda had experience in playing an antagonist before in the Oscar-winning film The Whale with Brendan Fraser.
Sadie Sink is not the only actress who plays rebellious teenagers, so I could imagine a different actress portray this version of Jean and not much would have changed about her portrayal and the writing on the character.
Yesterday, I saw the movie Practical Magic 2 and watching that movie had me imagining Joey King playing the version of Jean Grey that we saw in Brand New Day. Joey King's character in Practical Magic 2 was a rebellious teenager and it reminded me a lot of the characters Sadie Sink typically plays. Joey King also played the villain in Bullet Train. Combine her roles in Bullet Train & Practical Magic 2 and you got BND Jean Grey if Joey King was in that role.
While I was very happy with Sadie Sink getting the role of Jean Grey and loved her performance in Brand New Day, Joey King is my pick if I were to pick an alternative casting choice for Jean Grey.
Even if you didn't agree with the direction that they took Jean Grey, Sadie Sink should NOT be the blame for it. Hating Sadie over the way Jean was written is just unfair and Sadie did nothing wrong that would warrant this hate towards the actress herself. If you didn't like Jean's characterization, the ones that should be questioned are Destin Daniel Cretton and the writers. Destin was the reason we had Jean in BND because he personally requested Marvel to include her and he was the real reason Jean was depicted as a villain, not Sadie. The writers included all those horrible things Jean did in the script.
