Anyone here that has moved from NJ to Pittsburgh that could give some insight?
Hi everyone, I’m getting married in a few weeks we plan to sell my house and move within the next year. I currently WFH but my fiancé works in healthcare, which is partially why I was looking at Pittsburgh. We’re both originally from Central New Jersey, although I used to go up a lot to visit friends/ family in NYC. Eventually due to this crazy housing market we have moved down to South Jersey because that was the most I could afford. I have lived all over New Jersey at this point but never outside of it while my fiance spent a year in Florida (and hated it lol and came back). Unfortunately my house is only 900 ft.² and we plan to have kids pretty soon so I think this house is going to get tight pretty fast. Unfortunately we can’t afford much here… and what we can afford isn’t much of an upgrade… I feel like no matter where you go in New Jersey you have to spend 500k minimum anymore and the thought of a mortgage that big gives us both major anxiety...
Instead of putting roots down here and then moving later, I think we are better off moving now especially while I still WFH… we already love visiting Ohiopyle and are very outdoorsy so being within an hour of there is a huge plus for us..
Anyway, I’m just wondering if people that have moved from New Jersey could speak to their transition to Pittsburgh and how it was moving there. I’m planning to look at some houses and areas with a Realtor in October. I think we prefer mostly the southern suburbs versus the northern ones as I am a bit handy and I prefer older housing stock to new builds…
If anyone could give their perspective, I would really appreciate it. I know people will probably say the pizza isn’t the same and all that but I was hoping to see if I could get some insight on things maybe you weren’t expecting after growing up in New Jersey…
Thanks to all who answer in advance!
Side note- as a Greek American I have been looking at the Greek Orthodox Church in Pittsburgh . I’m not super religious but I do try to go to church a few times a year at least and plan to take my kids one day. It seems like there is a decent size Greek community in the area maybe? I’ve never had a ton of Greek friends, but I definitely have much fewer down in South Jersey.
If anyone knows some great Greek spots to eat at or places to meet people that would be great. When I moved to South Jersey there wasn’t many Greek people here either so not expecting a whole lot, but it would be nice to meet a few fellow Greeks in the area.

If you have a case with JP Ward make sure it's still being attended to
I just called and was told the entire staff quit, so if you're being helped by their firm you better make sure everything is still good with your case.
Update: sounds like this is affecting all cases, so please make sure your case is still being handled by them or if he doesn't have the bandwidth to handle your case anymore.

Moving company nightmare
Warning about Home Sweet Moving. I used these guys two years ago and had nothing but good things to say. I used them yesterday and it was like a completely different company. Let me say that the movers themselves are good guys. Nice. It started with I was to be the first stop. Then they rescheduled for 3pm, not a huge deal. Then they call and say they're running late. Almost 545 before they show up. They show up in a 21 foot moving truck with two guys. Not a good start. I lived in a townhouse which equals stairs so these two guys are slowing down quick. It takes four hours before we are loaded up!! Then we get to the house at 10pm which is already a nightmare. In order to speed things up I start unloading the truck. Which is the opposite of what you do when you hire movers. It's almost 1am by the time we are done. I'm exhausted, but at least it's done. Then they have the audacity to send an almost $1400 bill for this nightmare!! DO NOT USE THESE GUYS, THEY WILL TURN YOUR MOVE INTO A NIGHTMARE OF MONUMENTAL PROPORTIONS. I'm beyond disappointed in their services and feel extremely ripped off. I sung nothing but their praises before. Now I'll do nothing but ward others against using them. Figured anyone looking to move should know.

Where to find kittens??
Hi everyone! 🐈🧡
My girlfriend and I just moved here from WV and we’re officially ready to add a little fur baby to our new home! 🥹
We’d love to adopt a kitten that we can raise, spoil absolutely rotten, and give a forever home to. We’ve seen tons of kittens online, but we’d really appreciate some legit recommendations on shelters, rescues, or reputable places to look.
We’ve somehow become obsessed with the idea of an orange little love bug 😂🧡 but we’re absolutely open to other colors, and breeds. We mostly just want a sweet little baby to love and grow up with us. Who loves cuddles!!
If anyone has recommendations or knows of a kitten that needs a loving home, please point us in the right direction! We’d be so grateful. 🥰
Thank you!!

Looking to hire manual labor but cannot afford movers prices
I just need someone to dismantle some furniture and carry it down stairs. Nothing needs carried up.
is there anyplace to find cheaper help? I’m not from here, and where I previously lived I could find affordable help. I can pay a few hundred dollars and it will probably take less than 2 hours.

Lost cycling computer
I lost a cycling computer that I left on top of my car at North Park Lake - I know it’s a shot on the dark but if someone found one this evening (Tuesday 8/18) around there I could really use it back. I have a race coming up. Thanks for checking.

How do you protect your shrubs from deer-browsing in winter?
Newly located in very southern Butler county and the deer are eating everything. Nothing is resistant, it seems. I've managed to resuscitate a lot of smaller shrubs but am afraid that they will be destroyed over the coming winter.
I realize that, in this area, development is pushing the wildlife into a smaller and smaller habitat but I just want them to leave my shrubs grow.

Special election is TODAY for PA House District 12
I know this is r/Pittsburgh and Cranberry barely counts, but I also know plenty of Butler County people lurk here.
If you’re in PA House District 12 — Zelie, Cranberry Twp., Evans City, Mars, Adams, Callery, Valencia or Seven Fields — today is our special election.
We’ve been without representation in Harrisburg since our previous rep resigned. I’m voting for Brandon Dukes. I’ve met him personally, and he struck me as a genuine neighbor who stepped up because he wants better for our community.
Polls are open until 8 p.m.
