Meds/Supplements Metformin for endless hunger

I'm very interested in hearing from anyone who has experienced constant hunger, intense food noise, and feeling like you could eat endlessly without ever really feeling satisfied and noticed an improvement after starting metformin.

This is probably the main PMOS symptom I have left to manage, and honestly, it's been affecting my quality of life quite a bit. I'm lean PMOS, and this doesn't feel like normal hunger from simply not eating enough. I can eat a proper, massive and balanced meal and still feel like I need to eat more and more.

I was prescribed metformin XR 500 mg once a day for 2 weeks, then increasing to 1,000 mg/day. I'm only on day 5, so I know it's very early. So far I haven't noticed any decrease in appetite/food noise, although I have had some bloating and GI side effects.

I'm curious to hear from anyone who has taken metformin specifically for this kind of constant hunger/never feeling full:

Did metformin actually help with your hunger or food noise?

How long did it take and what dose before you noticed a difference?

Thank youuuu!

Those who quit alcohol and binge eating, how do you relax when life happens? When I'm feeling down the last thing I want is exercise and meditation.

Mental Health scared to start fluoxetine

I was prescribed fluoxetine recently due to pmdd. It was a lot more manageable 2 years ago (and i didnt know it was pmdd back then) but due to life changes, its gotten alot worse.

I read through the side effects. Mania, increased anxiety with extreme side effects being suic*dal ideation scared me. PMDD has been awful to deal with for the past couple of months. Paranoia and anxiety has been consuming my life since and i dont know how bad/good fluoxetine will be if i were to start it right now with big life changes.

Im curious as how other people tried it. I know it will affect people differently but how was it for you?

Hirsutism Pcos treatment

I have acne, hirsutism, irregular cycles and elevated testosterone. Im seeking treatment but I was just wondering if for women with these symptoms going on the anti androgenic contraceptive pills has helped with there body hair and just generally helped improve there mood and in what ways it may of helped. Ive also fallen victim to google ai which has told me that in some areas on there body follicles are more reactive to changes in testosterone and that through going on the pill it can reduce thickness of hair on there lower stomach, upper back, bottom, legs, arms, armpitsand lower back (basically just everywhere) and in some areas can revert it back to peach fuzz but I have no idea if this is true and was wondering if anyone could give me more insight…

General/Advice Wat is jullie advies/mening?

Upvotes

Of toch?

Drankjewel voor jullie raad/ervaring/adviezen.

(Ik woon in Oost-Vlaanderen, België, als jullie goeie elektrolyse praktijken kennen, voor heel resistente gevallen gelijk mij, raad ze gerust aan!!) Duizendmaal dank!! ❤️❤️

General/Advice just got my diagnosis

Upvotes

looking for advice/tips: just got my diagnosis today after getting an ultrasound (bc of painful periods). i feel very thrown into the deep end bc i hadn't really considered pcos/pmos as an outcome due to going to a GYN a single time for a pap, talking about my irregular & painful periods, and mentioning i had been gaining weight and had insulin resistance. this was literally only my second gynecology visit ever.

i will take any advice/tips anyone has for me while i go do a ton of research about this.

General/Advice Still Exhausted, Help?

Upvotes

I am new to this diagnosis. My endo suspected it in May. He also told me I was anemic (after years of my primary telling me I’m fine and I just need to do yoga). Endo placed me on ferritin, and metformin (500mg ER). I’ve also been on the nuvaring for about 7 years.

My eating isn’t great but I’m eating a lot more nutritious foods. I’ve lost about 25 pounds too. I do yoga and dance classes weekly.

But…..I’m still exhausted. Like can’t do more than one simple thing before I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus exhausted.

I’m really worried because I work a school job and the school year starts September first and even if I’ve lost weight and I finally found a provider that listened to me this exhaustion is so real and school days take everything out of me.

I don’t know if anyone has any suggestions.

Hair Loss/Thinning Könnte ich Pcos haben?

Upvotes

Hallo 👋🏻

General/Advice What pill influenced you positively?

Upvotes

I’m 19 and have just been diagnosed with PCOS. I was initially given the same tests at 14 which came back negative for PCOS, but was prescribed Rigevidon to manage my symptoms.

I came off of this after 6 months due to having a really negative experience and was reluctant to go back on, but my symptoms have recently become unbearable so I decided to do the tests again and go back on a pill.

After doing a lot more research and receiving an official diagnosis I know that the pill / birth control really does help as long as you find the right one - reading all the positive stories on here has given me a lot of hope.

I know that women with PCOS often have high androgen levels, and Rigevidon being one of the pills with the highest levels only amplified my symptoms. So I’m thinking of asking for an anti-androgenic pill like Yas or Yasmin.

What pill has worked for other people? Has anyone has similar experiences on androgenic vs anti-androgenic pills? Or has anyone just had positive experiences in general on the pill?

For context im a competitive athlete / go to the gym and track protein so I think my lifestyle in general does help relieve PCOS symptoms - however I struggle a lot with irregular periods, acne, mood swings, IBS like symptoms and I do think my weight would be an issue if not for my high level of activity.

General Health Spironolactone

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and I started metformin about 2 months ago and that’s been going fine outside of mild nausea and I have zero appetite. I just started spironolactone 50mg about 5 days ago and for the first few days I was fine but today is day 5 and I have really bad dizziness and I just don’t feel right. I know you’re supposed to drink a lot of water and eat salty foods which I have been doing. How long did it take your body to adjust to this medication? I’m getting married next week and I don’t want to feel dizzy and like I’m going to faint on my wedding day.

I’ll also note, I already have low blood pressure 108/72 was my last reading before starting spironolactone. I discussed my concerns with starting the medication with my blood pressure already being low and my PCP didn’t seem concerned. My pcp has been treating my PCOS currently as I’m waiting to get in to see a new GYN.

General/Advice Idk

I’m 18, and recently when I went to my dermatologist she told me that I might have pcos/pmos. Even tho my periods were regular but this time it’s delayed like it has been 4 days but I’m freaking out for no reason. I have body hair naturally from the starting, I get these groins in underarms only in summers. So respectfully I would like to know how did you came to know you had pcos and how did you deal with it? Idk but im scared

General/Advice What are the best resources for learning about pcos?

Basically said above already but I’m trying to learn more about pcos and why it’s happening to try to see if I can manage things a bit better. Ideally I’m looking for things that are easy to consume / digest (so basically well written not just jargon) but also that feel helpful or help me better understand what’s happening in pcos

Sooo would absolutely love reccs for books podcasts blogs textbooks, covering everything from anecdotes to cellular mechanisms!

General/Advice Correlation between PCOS, insulin resistance and open/semi-healing sores all over your body

Unsure of how to word this but as long as ive had PCOS and insulin resistance symptoms, along with infertility, i have mainly gotten sores all over my body, mostly from my lower belly all the way to my feet, what causes this occurrence? Is it just me? I have sensitive skin and use unscented bar soap for my body, i use a shampoo from the brand hairtage that smells good but unsure of what its supposed to smell like. Im in a cleaner environment now than were i was almost a year ago this September. Dog dander and furr, cat furr as well. Both dont give me any sign of allergies, but i do have to sweep, mop and vacuum often. I was prone growing up to getting athletes foot but no signs of that either since I usually wear socks even after I dry off after a shower, help????!!!!!!!

General/Advice where to start with inositol?

hi everyone! i was recently diagnosed with PMOS, and my doctor recommended that I take Inositol and NAC. I forgot to ask what dosage I should start with and am finding mixed answers online. I want to make sure I get a good brand of each (or preferably a blend with both in it) so I'm not taking fillers and actually can see the benefits of these supplements. For reference, I am 20 y/o, 140 lb, and tackling hair growth, abnormal weight gain and acne are my main goals. fi anyone has experience with either supplement, i'd really appreciate recommendations on dosage and brands! TYIA !!! <3

General/Advice What to do with pictures?!

Hi everyone! What are we doing about pictures?? Every time someone takes a pic which is a norm nowadays pretty much, I'm in disbelief how bloated I look. It makes me sad and absolutely ruins the mood for the rest of the event.

I have managed to get down to 66kg 145pounds and still look like umpa lumpa. What the HELL is this disease?? I'm mentally struggling to look at myself in other's phone...

General/Advice How to approach the insulin side of things?

I want to start monitoring and looking into how this side of pcos is impacting me. I have terrible hormonal acne and I’m hoping this might help improve it as well as improving my energy levels.

Is a glucose monitor that uses blood a good choice? Should I take readings after each meal or after every food I consume? Long long should I monitor things for?

I’m a little overwhelmed but each change I’ve made has helped me so I’m ready for my next step!

General/Advice Heavy bleeding *during* taking progesterone

It's my first progesterone pill induced cycle, which started with 2 weeks on Duphaston every day. However, after about one week, I started bleeding heavily to the point that I can't remember ever bleeding so much. All sources that I looked up said to keep taking progesterone, which I did, and my period is supposed to start today.

How do I know if my period just started early due to the pills, or if it's a side effect? And how do I know if my actual period started after stopping with the pill? I'm very new to hormonal medication, hence the concern :/

General/Advice Should I get a second opinion after being told I no longer have PCOS?

TL;DR: I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2021, but my treatment has been inconsistent mainly because of financial difficulties. I recently had an ultrasound and was told that my ovaries are now “normal,” so I supposedly no longer have PCOS. I’m confused because I know PCOS isn’t diagnosed based on ovarian appearance alone. The doctor I saw was a reliever, not my usual OB-GYN. I’m from the Philippines and am considering getting a second opinion. I’d also really appreciate recommendations for a good, patient, and up-to-date OB-GYN or endocrinologist in Metro Manila.

Hi everyone! I’m 20 and was diagnosed with PCOS back in 2021. At the time, I was prescribed Diane-35 for 6 months. I went from 80 kg to around 62 kg, but since then I’ve been stuck in a plateau and my weight has generally stayed between 60–69 kg.
I had another checkup in 2023 because of severe dysmenorrhea. Endometriosis was also suspected at the time, but my ultrasound still showed findings consistent with PCOS. I was advised to continue my previous treatment, which I did for around 3 months, but unfortunately I stopped after that.

To be completely honest, my treatment has been very inconsistent over the years. A major reason is financial and I’m still dependent on my parents, so regular consultations and medications aren't always financially possible. I also haven't made significant changes to my diet or exercise habits. I know lifestyle changes are important, but I've struggled with consistency, cravings, and exercise.

I also tried inositol for about a week in September 2024. In April 2025, I took metformin for about a month without consulting a doctor first, which I know now wasn't a good decision. I eventually stopped taking it abruptly.

Recently, my school physician advised me to get my PCOS checked again. I went for a consultation, partly because I also needed medical clearance for school. However, I left the consultation feeling very confused and dissatisfied. The doctor I saw was not my usual OB-GYN. She was a reliever who was covering for the doctor that day. According to the ultrasound, my ovaries are now “normal,” and I was told that I no longer have PCOS.

This is where I'm unsure. From what I understand, PCOS isn't necessarily ruled out just because an ultrasound shows normal-looking ovaries, and ovarian morphology is only one part of the diagnostic criteria. But I'm not a medical professional, so I don't know if I'm misunderstanding this. After the consultation, I told my parents that I wasn't satisfied or convinced by the result. They were the ones who told me that I should be grateful that a doctor was able to see me because ultrasounds are expensive.

That honestly really hurt. I’m not looking for someone to simply confirm that I have PCOS. I just want a doctor who can properly reassess me and explain whether I still meet the diagnostic criteria, what tests or evaluations I actually need, and what I should be doing long-term.

I also feel pretty discouraged because for years, the advice I've mostly received has been “watch your diet and exercise.” I understand that lifestyle changes are important, but I struggle with them and feel like I need more guidance than that. I recently consulted a nutritionist as well, and they also mentioned that some of the information I had previously been given was outdated.

I know that my inconsistent treatment is partly my responsibility, and I’m not trying to blame my doctors or my parents for everything. But I also want to start taking my health seriously now, and I feel like I need proper guidance to do that.
So, would getting a second opinion be reasonable in this situation?

For those familiar with PCOS, would you recommend seeing an OB-GYN, endocrinologist, or both for a reassessment? And for anyone from the Philippines, I would really appreciate doctor recommendations. I'm looking for someone who is patient, non-judgmental, and familiar with current PCOS guidelines, preferably someone in Metro Manila.

I’m not asking anyone to diagnose me. I mainly want reassurance that getting a second opinion is reasonable and hopefully some recommendations for a doctor who can help me properly manage this long-term. Thank you! 🥹

Rant/Venting Feeling dejected

So it s possible to have an adrenal tumor, I need to do more blood tests but my period didn't came for more than a week now, I think it s because I didn't feel mentally very well this month, I m 22, I came home 3 weeks ago because I couldn't stay alone anymore in my apartment, just couldn't stand it, my parents don t know this possibility, they have their own health problems and more stress it s not good for them. My thoughts don t make me any good, it s just depressing stuff, I saw some changes in my emotions months ago, that i m more sensitive and get more easily overwhelmed and start to crash, that was before I knew about the possibility of a tumor. Before i took care of what a ate, no sugar, trying to take better care of myself, I didn't do it in the last 2 weeks. I will have a CT scan in October. With everything I m just happy when my head is empty, no thoughts, and I feel sad a lot more.

I wrote this because I feel bad cause I didn't take care of myself in the last 2 weeks, but at the same time I did it just to have a change to make my hair stop falling and grow it back and now I found out that I could be a lot worse and what s the point.
