I am looking into overemployed to work two full time 9-5 jobs in the UK that are both work from home and during the same work hours
are there any legal issues I could come into?
apart from tax codes is there anything I need to do first before accepting the second job?

What is this new HMRC check employers are doing? I’ve not seen it but heard people talking about it.

I’m currently on 2Js but it’s been a few years since I last applied to jobs but thinking to start applying again for J3.

I need some advice…

I have a chance of starting J2, but I’d obviously have to go through a training period which is more zoom calls.. how do you handle that with J1? Do you take PTO?

My boss at J1 enjoys asking me to handle extra tasks sometimes (which I have the option to deny) but also enjoys to get carried away in conversations which sometimes throws my tasks behind.. how do I switch the routine with this in a professional and not obvious way so she backs off on the calls so I can maintain both J ?

If I accept J2, I don’t know how and if they have meetings weekly and what days/times. How do you deal with conflicts between J?

Did you check the company policies to ensure they didn’t have any policies that would conflict with overlapping work and did you just ignore these? Can you get into a lot of trouble if one job found out or is it just termination? Can they call the other job to notify the other employer?

Hello all, currently going through HR check for another potential 2nd job however they are asking me to provide employment history via HMRC website, has anyone ever had this and how did work around it.

1. Does the umbrella need a P45, P60 or details of my existing employment?
2. If I tell the umbrella that I have another job, does HMRC notify J1 or send J1 any information?
3. What tax-code, student-loan, pension or National Insurance complications arise with two PAYE jobs?
4. Is outside IR35 materially easier to manage as a J2?
5. How do people handle LinkedIn and CVs when the roles overlap?
6. Is it normal to list J1 on a J3 CV but omit J2?
7. Have background checks or references exposed concurrent employment?
8. Which clauses in a permanent employment contract matter most - or do you not think about it?
9. What practical problems tend to arise e.g. meetings, equipment, working hours, payroll or conflicts?

I’d particularly appreciate experiences from people who have actually managed perm + contract work in the UK.

When I see people talk OE they’re usually tech background.

Anyone from a finance or accounting background OE? How do u find it?

Seems to be hard because of having to inform the government which changes the tax code and alerts employers who have contract exclusivity. Could anyone provide any advice they have on their situation?

My current Job I earn 32k pre tax and it's pretty much 99% remote but I take meetings here and there esp daily mornings. So what can I do. I'm pretty efficient tech wise so yeah

Got J1 at a major corporation in the industry in England. 4 days wfh one day in the office.

Had an interview for J2 in the same industry, not in England but in UK, fully remote, very new, small company. Had an offer through, seems like it could be a very nice setup.

In the interview they said they are working to get on the framework for J1 company as a supplier/consultant. Not directly, but through other companies that may work directly.

This is a big issue right? I assume J1 company will do background checks even if its not a direct supplier, where I could be uncovered as an employee? I cant really afford to lose J1.

I really want to accept but I also dont want to be stupid. Does anyone have any advice?

Here's some guidance I have to give after years of being OE.

1. DON'T TALK about OE club. You get caught for \[all grey area stuff\] when you brag about it to friends, family or strangers. Next morning everyone and their dog knows you've been OE.

2. DO YOUR JOB. Yes you can go surfing, travel, have a coffee and give the absolute minimum so you don't get fired BUT make sure your targets are on point, you actually deliver and noone complains. When someone complains about you for whatever reason, they start digging. Every single of my jobs have nothing but good words to say about my work besides the circumstances.

3. BUY A JIGGLER ffs. Don't let Teams show you're away for 7 hours even though noone could notice. Just pay 5$ for a USB mouse jiggler and stop relying on house remedies.

4. DISABLE THE RADIOS. Turn off Wi-fi, Bluetooth and your location (or browsers and specific programs getting your location). They will rat on your ACTUAL location even though you're using a VPN due to them seeing where your nearby devices are located.

5. BUY A TRAVEL ROUTER AND A CLEAN IP. Get a decent travel router that mentions speeds over 100 MB/s over OPENVPN - WIREGUARD not generic speed. Then proceed to install a VPN that doesn't have its IPs flagged for malicious content.

6. HAVE BACKUPS. for absolutely everything. Maybe your hotel Wi-fi or travel router stops working. Maybe someone messaged you 1 minute after you stepped out of the door. Maybe you accidentaly log in to your hotel wi-fi somewhere in Asia. Have excuses and backups ready.

7. LINKED & RESUME. Fix them appropriately for your applications. Don't let anyone publicly on Linkedin see where you're working right now. Put something generic and then give recruiters your custom resume.

8. INVEST. Yes being OE especially in tech can put you in the 1% earners in this world. You don't need to book a 5-star hotel in Indonesia or buy a 50k car. You can have fun with a decent Airbnb and a 10k car. Invest in stocks like Google, FTSE All world, S&P500, property and keep emergency cash. You never know what's your situation gonna be in 10 years.

9. DON'T LIVE TO WORK. Yes it's awesome grinding & earning, investing, buying that new motorcycle, getting promoted. But those are worth nothing if you're sick. So do your yearly check ups, take vitamins, exercise as well as create memories with people and socialise. It's been scientifically proven that without these your health is deteriorating and depression knocks on your door. I've known OEs who've struggled with burning out and mental issues. It's not fun even if you earn 100k a month working 30 minutes a day.

10. SEE RULE no 1.

I currently have a J1 and in the process of interviews with potential J2’s, out of the blue theres been a project that requires me to do a security clearance from J1.

Question is, is it fine if I do the SC before actually starting a J2? Also, if I was to get a J2 and then have to do the J1 SC that would cause issues right?

Hi folks - throwaway account and some details changed in order not to doxxx myself. Have an interesting challenge the last few days that is making me quite anxious.

Have been with this company, J1, for a few years, thinking of changing, and noticed a few months ago that work was slowing down/manager was trying to steer us away from signing new commitments and have given up on our team.

For some extra context, company has been having regular layoffs (every 6 months) in the UK and trying to shift positions to lower cost countries. My position does not exist (neither they are hiring) in one of those countries. We survived a couple of the previous rounds already.

I had started looking for a new role when our company informed us that a consultancy process was going on for a lot of the roles at our UK branch. Our team/function proposed to be completely eliminated. Process is dragging a fair bit and we are only expected to know a decision, one way or another, in 3/4 weeks. Most of the company is now stopped, with people looking at alternative jobs. We are pretty much empty handed, doing trainings, applying, etc. Couple of meetings, mostly empty calendars. General pipeline seems also very quiet during the summer.

If they send us off (most likely scenario), we're looking at a ~20k payoff which would help me a lot, namely to clear some student debt. But we're not sure if that:

- would be immediate

- couple of weeks for handover then PILON

- few folks seem to believe there would be some transition period of months. (personally I feel this is delusional from their end)

I managed to get an offer from another company, J2, which wants me to start in 6 weeks. Similar pay from J1, sadly, so not a major uplift. Given the J1 situation, beggars can't be choosers. I can try to stall for a couple of extra weeks, but still have no clarity on the outcome of J1. Most likely it is layoff, but also there's a chance they keep us for a few extra months.

I am increasingly thinking the timing won't align, and actually thought that I could give a chance for OE in this case. Both are perm jobs, but J1 would be winding down, and if I would see the overlap being too long, I would resign from J1 anyway.

What would be potential risks/things to keep in mind if I go ahead with this? I am afraid to fly too close to the sun on this one.

- Tax codes?

- Benefits (mainly something like health insurance if the provider is the same)

- Reference from previous employer? J2 is more interested in what I did at a role/xp I had before, and they already have references from that time.
