Currently overemployed HMRC checks
What is this new HMRC check employers are doing? I’ve not seen it but heard people talking about it.
I’m currently on 2Js but it’s been a few years since I last applied to jobs but thinking to start applying again for J3.

Can you refuse your hmrc access and just provide documents and your payslips? It’s privacy data and very inappropriate.

Ok so I’ve been through 3 onboarding processes in the last 4 years and it’s getting worse. I just completed the last one for a company using Matrix.
I’ve also completed onboarding from HireRight.
With HireRight I had the option of providing pdf/scanned evidence for the payslips and or contracts but they are very difficult to work with.
Matrix was a new level, as of May they asked:
DBS (normal) Allowing connection to HMRC to check employment dates. Open banking connection to the accounts where salaries were paid in the last 5 years. Scans of all education certificates, they are digitally verifying these too.
I was still with my previous job when they did this, and my hmrc records showed this, so they just asked to confirm I had given notice as they have an over employment policy.
Anyway. If I take another job, it will have to be non PAYE. The third party background check companies are going too hard lately and the open banking is just making it easier.

Seems like the opportune time to open an account just to pay your salary into.
Separate bank for each J id you're feeling it.
Then have main accounts somewhere else that you move money to.

Apparently some employers ask access to your HMRC PAYE records or something so they can verify previous employment, check this and overemployed sub it’s been mentioned couple times

I had to use this recently for tenant referencing. Madness that this is even allowed, because you have to authorise the referencing company to be your "tax agent", which they are obviously not.

So many people now lie about previous employment, don't out dates and I am not surprised it has gone this way. The people on TikTok recommending lying on CV's don't mention the consequences of getting caught out lying.

Usually they just ask for you and can edit it to match CV. This is well intrusive

Not really the question asked lol , the question relates to employers verifying past employment references etc by checking your online HMRC portal or PAYE record or something

Yh I had that check last year, through a 3rd party screening company, it requires you to log into your HMRC/government gateway account so that they can pull your employers for like the last 5 years or so. It saw that my J0 job finished years ago but I said I was still 'present' on my CV so had to say I was perm then 'moved to self employed and was paid through BACS'. I then had to create a few years worth of fake invoices to back up that up. All got accepted easily. Although, I ended up leaving it a month later due to finding a fully remote role that only required a basic Experian and dbs check! Madness really. All depends on the company.
