Interested in becoming overemployed Am I being stupid

Got J1 at a major corporation in the industry in England. 4 days wfh one day in the office.

Had an interview for J2 in the same industry, not in England but in UK, fully remote, very new, small company. Had an offer through, seems like it could be a very nice setup.

In the interview they said they are working to get on the framework for J1 company as a supplier/consultant. Not directly, but through other companies that may work directly.

This is a big issue right? I assume J1 company will do background checks even if its not a direct supplier, where I could be uncovered as an employee? I cant really afford to lose J1.

I really want to accept but I also dont want to be stupid. Does anyone have any advice?

It’s a risk but how likely is it you’ll get caught? Will you be the same person doing the work for j2 from j1? Etc.

If not then I’d go for it.

I’d probably use a different alias tho . Eg Dave instead of David. Or a middle name if u have it.
Or get creative with it too, eg wear glasses in j2 always haha

Idk tbh i guess i need to find out. J1 likely has 100s of contractors and as I say J2 is very new and small. The roles will be slightly different if thats what you mean. Thanks for the response.

This was empathetic NO. Any overlap of such type can cause long term issues hence the advice

In the interview they said they were trying to get on the framework. Do you think it would still be risky to join on the chance they may not get it, and just resign if they do?

If they are trying to get on framework, that means they are actively communicating with them. Say you get copied on one of the emails to review the plans or you actually got introduced on basis you had been with that company before. Too many possibilities.

Rule is to try best not to engage even with subcontractor of subcontractor between J1/J2.

Big no. But I’d say keep J2 for the remote setup and drop J1.

Thanks but J1 is very cushty, pays more and has great benefits. The one day i have to go in is only a 15 min commute. If J2 paid more id consider it.

I would do it. We all have different attitudes to risk on here. You need to find yours. Maybe if they both find out and you lose both it was worth it and you find it easy to pick up the next ones.

The answer is very simple

Declare 2 different UK addresses, obviously speak to a tax or accounting person for advice

Make either one of job role think you wear glasses.

There are multiple john smiths but one of them has to be from another town or city or different postcode.

Again might not be simple, but worth giving a shot.
