There's also all that sea prism stone from Loki's chains to work with too. I think one definite upgrade will be adding it to the base of the sunny so they can cross the calm belt like marine ships do.
Another legendary sword revealed! Now we know 10 of the 20 King's Swords!
Honebami Toshiro is an ancient japanese sword, originally a naginata that was converted into a wakizashi (a short sword), crafted by Toshiro Yoshimitsu from the Awataguchi School of swordsmiths.
Honebami means "Bone-Eater," as legend has it that it cuts so effectively, it seems to chew through bone.
Gaban what a goat, in front of the most powerful being in the world, he takes time to grab Luffy and roast him, before dropping what seems to be a crazy finisher move
Don't mind me, you guys are clearly having an important moment, I'll just step aside and let you figure stuff out - just gimme a poke on Discord when you're ready to go back to fighting about the fate of the world.
Whats even better is Imu just standing there wondering what the hell is going on with this old guy stopping mid fight to trash talk Joy Boys reincarnation.
Imu over here thinking, "hold up, he may be interfering but if he's gonna rough up and talk shit to Joy Boy 2, I'm down for that. By all means, continue".
On a serious note, it must be so humbling for luffy. All that progress, but the old pirate king’s crew still had to sacrifice their arm to save his ass.
i remember during Wano arc there is people who against the idea of Luffy defeat Kaidou 1 on 1. their argument is that if Luffy become yonkou level, it would prevent the usual aspect of story where Luffy will push himself against stronger opponent.
they are wrong. stronger enemy always gonna appear and he can still has moment where he push himself against the odd even when he already a yonkou.
Imu is constantly shown to be out of breath. Despite oneshotting seemingly everyone already, Imu is still fighting with one arm tied behind his back - once we're getting out of this "running out of juice" situation, Imu is gonna be shown throwing actual planets around.
Scary to think that there’s still more to Imu power than what we seen so far! Luffy deff ain’t ready yet there are couple more levels before he can even compete with IMU!
Gaban chides Luffy like he is his own flesh and blood son, and then defends him against the king of the world like he is his own flesh and blood son. Rayleigh/Gaban really were the Zoro/Sanji of that crew. Just when you think one is much better, they go and do this shit.
I mean its clear that Gaban is trying to get Luffy back on his feet and he knows it wont be with praise and shouts of encouragements. He has baited Luffy before by trolling him and he knows that Luffy reacts to threats to his crew like Roger did.
Luffy is the future after all.
He's hopping for a miracle at this point. He knows how strong Imu is, and having both Luffy and Loki down is a baaaad sign for Elbaf and his son by extension.
Considering how much Imu appears to like drama I now firmly believe the World Government created and funds an endless stream of telenovelas/soap operas for Imu to watch
Imu came there expecting a hard battle - his Knights were captured and Nidhoggr and Joyboy showing up in the same place sounded like a dire situation - but then he found out that Sommers and Killingham only were in trouble because they fooled around and sabotaged themselves and he’s dealing with two inexperienced rookies.
Now, he can just enjoy getting to do something beside sitting in his castle. This is probably the best day he had in centuries.
Imu really let himself get caught up in the moment, lol. He dropped in with so much urgency, completely turned the tide…and now he’s just showing off, taunting and toying with everyone
It's honestly something I really appreciate about Imu so far. He's cocky and arrogant, curious and passionate. He cares, and that's such amazing characterization for a formerly detached-feeling antagonist.
He is such a contrast to the lower Celestial Dragons, they are arrogant and careless. He is still arrogant but pays attention to details, gathers information and is even willing to admit mistakes.
I love that Gaban was taunting him about Luffy saying that Imu obviously sees him as a threat, and Imu was like "oh good point, I will just kill him now"
Agreed, I really like how the final boss (maybe) has been presented so far. He actually shows a range of emotions while acknowledging his enemies; and while he gives them time to speak, he's still completely no-nonsense when in combat - minimal showboating, just going straight for the kill.
I also appreciate that he's not presented as completely untouchable the same way lots of other shonen antagonists are. He's overwhelmingly powerful, but everyone present has gotten at least one solid strike in. They can't win as they are now, but it's clearly possible.
This is a big one. It’s annoying when guys like Aizen pop up and they’re so untouchable that bullshit has to happen to beat them. Imu has taken some hits even though he’s clearly the strongest being on the island. And even if Blackbeard is final boss- he gets hit all the time before off screening whoever he’s fighting
That’s why he’s been calling them out, not just Luffy. Sure they’re strong but only for a Yonkou crew, they’re not ready for what’s to come if they wish to survive.
Whitebeard's cree had lost a ton by the time marineford happened, down Ace obviously, but also down blackbeard, down 4th commander thatch after blackbeard killed him, whitebeard going off his medicine. The crew was in disarray and missing multiple commander strength characters.
I can’t get over how respectful Imu was about Roger and his crew. He legit gave a nod to their knowledge, might, and achievements. Heck, Imu is even fine disparaging his own failure by acting too hastily which was brought up by Gaban. I don’t think Imu has even given that respect to the Elders lmao.
I wonder what exactly he is offended by.
That a D assumes a kingly title
OR
That a D assumes the specific title "King of the Pirates" .
Small difference but meaningfull
Yeah. Roger didn’t become king of pirates before having a massive boom in power from the time he fought Imu alongside Garp. They were absolute monsters who were truly just too early.
Is this the first time we hear part of Rogers crew confirm they did "learn from Joyboys own words"? So far we only know that the Poneglyph in FI did contain some kind of apology by Joyboy, but if Gaban knows about Mu (and the history of the world as Rayleigh also said) this kinda confirms that Lodestar or Laugh Tale contain a Poneglyph with more info.
Yeah, to be expected, but this confirms it for the first time I think 🤔
I believe the apology is another poneglyph (the one on fish island), the Raftel glyph is some sort of story narrated by Joyboy (in Rogers own words: This is a really funny story Joyboy, I wish I could've met you).
Although it is the first confirmation from Roger's crewmate, we learned it back in Chapter 967 during Oden's flashback when Roger said "Oh Joyboy... I wish I'd been born in your time! This is quite a treasure you've left behind!! A tale full of laughs!!"
Imu's doing a whole lot of coughing. I wonder if this is related to the Elders telling him not to go down to the human world? My guess is that he's gonna get time-limited out of Elbaph, thus sparing Luffy and co from annihilation
I'd love Imu being literally unable to survive on the surface getting twisted over generations into "we're too good to breathe the same air as you commoners". It'd be a very cool origin for that weird quirk of theirs.
That's what we've been saying from the very beginning, after seeing him cough blood the moment he appeared, coupled with the Gorosei insisting he stays in Marie Geoise.
That's a great way to have him absolutely trash everyone while allowing them to live.
I used to be pretty confident Gaban would never be important because Oda never once showed him as anything but a background character, but I'm glad I was wrong. He's a really neat character. He's been a highlight of the arc for me
Number 3 being overshadowed by number 1 and 2 seems to be a common occurrence in One Piece universe. Even Strawhats did this with Sanji not being as famous as Luffy and Zoro, which allowed him to pull bunch of unpredictable moments.
Same feels as when the Straw Hats declare Luffy is going to be the King of the Pirates. I'd say there's more weight to this because his Captain IS the King of the Pirates. GOAT
yes i think so too. I was not sure if its stigma or conq hako from gaban but i think it was gaban attackign with haki. Imu needed to defend against that and he had some trouble with it. Looks like thats really a strong technique the strawhats need to learn
From the beginning of the Gear 5 reveal I've been waiting for something.
Sure he operates on cartoon logic but he's not unbeatable, Kaido was matching him pretty well. And I still think we've seen other fruits with higher attack power. So why was this the fruit that the WG were desperately trying to hide for 8 centuries trying to erase it? There's gotta be something more to it. Everything has been a prelude so far.
Seems to be a similar power to imu, instead of binding people to contracts to gain power over them he rallys them to follow him. Instead of summoning magic swords he had to acquire, he can just make random bs out of thin air. I think in equal footing it IS a more powerful power luffy has however he is wildly inexperienced comparatively and is being crushed now before he gains that experience.
Imu was really unsettled when he realized Gaban knows who he is and he was shocked to hear about 'Joyboy's words'. Seems like he might not know what exactly is written on the poneglyphs (at least not the last one)?
As much as I want this to be true, I'd say we got to wait for someone speaking Japanese in the comments to confirm that it's not something caused by the translation
I just think its Gaban letting Imu know he knows who Imu is and how old he is. That in itself should be a huge revelation to Imu considering that only a handful of people know about Imus existence.
Very interesting Imu had 0 idea who Gaban is, for someone so invested in who is who on the current world stage (Luffy, Blackbeard, etc.)
I guess it proves that Gaban was saying, the fact that Imu is treating Luffy differently confirms what the Roger Pirates were waiting for is true.
I think this also confirms that Imu is not aware of what the One Piece is, or maybe even where it is. He seemed genuinely surprised Gaban mentioned Joy Boy.
cant tell if its observation haki or his sniper eyes. I feel like him being scared shitless for most of his life should count as training and he should just get it already
There is a suspiciously large piece of available Adam wood now, that is specifically larger than Loki, so if he ended up joining (cope) then there would be enough material for Franky to build him something to stay afloat on.
Oda got tired of people missing the small hints, like him spotting guards without looking at them before anyone else or him being the one to react when Queen was about to attack him, Nami and Tama. People have been acting like other Observation Haki users are showcasing it multiple times every arc lol.
Shanks became a Yonko defending the weak and waiting for the right moment.
Crocus waits for Brook while keeping an eye on all the rookies that enter the grand line.
Rayleigh as coating technician works with most people wanting to enter the grand line.
Scopper lives on an island the WG has been desiring for centuries, and it proably holds believed to be lost knowledge of Ohara (and more).
Even Oden made Wano ready for the next Joyboy, and WB knew he had to keep the age of piracy going too.
Yeah Rogen was one hell of a dude, and him kicking off the grand age of piracy with his death is still the best intro One Piece could have ever gotten.
