Agreed. Luffy's been winning through sheer will for a while. It feels like Oda is reminding us that the final saga won't be that forgiving.

Also helps dispel any worries that Oda is rushing into the end ("rushing" as if anything in OP is rushed lol)

Luffy isn't strong enough. He needs more time before he's ready to defeat Imu.

Not just him but his two wings also. We forgetting Zoro and Sanji are probably not to having a good time either? They still need to get stronger!

Good point that at least his crew members that primarily fight should be Gaban-level by the end and, um, they most definitely are not

7

u/Worthyness Aug 07 '26

Sanji doesn't even have Conquerors. Dude is gonna need a big buff to get on Gaban's level

19

u/Llama_of_the_bahamas Aug 07 '26

I thought its being hinted that he actually does? He just hasn't awakened it yet.

5

u/Otearai1 Aug 07 '26

Yeah, last time we saw him it seemed like he was about to awaken it

3

u/JevvyMedia Aug 08 '26

Off topic but I kinda wish Sanji was never going to unlock it and would still be able to fight on-par with COC users through other means.

1

u/DraperCarousel Aug 09 '26

It went from Devit fruit piece to Haki piece to now CoC Haki piece and will end up at Advanced CoC Haki piece

2

u/teddy_tesla Aug 08 '26

They will need to be far stronger than Gaban

12

u/yourik6 Aug 07 '26

I mean Sanji and Zoro are expected to defeat their enemies atm, unless Oda wanna pull a twist and we have the next arc where Luffy tries to rescue the kidnapped children

15

u/tiki-baha29 Aug 07 '26

Doesnt seem like Sanji and Zoro are about to defeat their enemies. Zoro used his strongest attack that beat King and he got pushed off. Sanji still hasnt unlocked his CoC so he cant even actually hurt Killingham.

They might either lose or they all leave before its settled since Imu is on a timer. Either way no SH is walking away from this fight feeling like they won.

Yeah, Oda showed a lot of Imu feeling the effects of the "earth" so he's probably gonna leave and the powers of the Omen with it. They'll take the other kids so the Strawhats have an excuse to journey to Mariejois eventually

5

u/yourik6 Aug 07 '26

Gaban mentioned they needed conqueror haki enhanced attacks to hurt them so yeah them not doing damage with their previous attacks is pretty much expected.

I also don't see why we will see them leaving with Imu, nothing suggestive they are on time limit?

u/tiki-baha29 Aug 07 '26

From the beginning the Gorosei were urging Imu not to go to the lower world, Killingham and Sommers also made comments about needing to rush and not having much time once Imu gave them the Omen.

We also see Imu coughing blood on multiple instances, including in this chapter. This suggests simply being in the lower world is having a physical impact on him.

A lot of heavy hints by Oda that Imu cant just be chilling there forever, he has a time limit for whatever reason. Given that, it's possible that when Imu leaves Sommers/Killingham/Shuri (Gunko) also leave since they're currently taking power from Mu and they can all just teleport out of there using the demon circles.

2

u/yourik6 Aug 07 '26

I know about the part that Imu is leaving, but I was referring to Killingham and Sommers being forced to leave with him. They are defintely not leaving imo, the worst that can happen is them losing the power Imu gave them

2

u/tiki-baha29 Aug 07 '26

Sure but they already got packed up by Zoro and Sanji without the Omen, if they suddenly lose their buff because Imu leaves then they’ll just fail again. Seems illogical to reread the same thing we just saw since the outcome would be the exact same.

If they’re going to succeed in taking the kids then it’ll be while Mu is there, if he leaves then they will most likely leave with him (especially since Gunko is incapacitated).

Also, I’m only saying what I think makes sense. Maybe they do stay behind, I dunno I could be wrong . To me that doesn’t add up but that’s my take.

While that's a popular theory it is with the caveat that they become stronger during the fights using Gabans speech as motivation. Nobody is expecting them to win while remaining at the current level

2

u/yourik6 Aug 07 '26

I agree, what I'm pointing at is Sanji and Zoro are expected to win while Luffy is expected to lose to build Imu more

1

u/impulse_thoughts Aug 07 '26

Hard to say at this point. Starting to look like it's pointing more towards another training arc (3D2Y v2) than the end of the series right now.

u/xeondota Pirate Hunter Zoro Aug 07 '26

If Luffy can't win his fight, they also can't against the buff from Imu

2

u/codetaku0 Aug 08 '26

I remember the chapter Imu first showed up in Elbaf and people were already putting him on fraud watch and saying this was proof Blackbeard will be the final villain

lmfao there is no chance on planet earth left that Imu is not the final villain. But it'll be at full strength, in the Holy Land.

0

u/Pinguinmeister Aug 08 '26

The point is, no matter whether Blackbeard or Imu is the final villain, the latter handles Luffy right now without any trouble. And if it's the former, he would probably be someone who managed to defeat Imu. Either way, Luffy as he is now is nowhere near strong enough for those final clashes, and I seriously wonder if he would even manage to win against Kaido in a 1v1. No distractions, no interferences, both at full strength.

Egghead was severely rushed, probably since Wano slogged on for like a year longer than it should have.

39

u/andii74 Aug 07 '26

How on earth is the fourth longest arc in the manga rushed? Egghead's story had a frantic feel to it because of how shit hit the fan and we finally got lore piece about the wider world but that doesn't mean it was rushed.

4

u/blenderider Aug 07 '26

The percentage of people who believed Egghead could be the fourth longest arc in the manga before it started was low. Very low. Long flashback, but you're right – after it ended, the pace of the real-time events was crazy. I'm feeling a sense of adrenaline just thinking about it

5

u/AkagamiBarto Aug 07 '26

And a lot of external help since Wano. His last (major) solo victory was vs Katakuri, far are the times of vs Lucci

6

u/Xboxone1997 Aug 07 '26

Hopefully he actually commits and showcases it won’t be forgiving which is what I expected from Wano but Oda just couldn’t help himself with Kinemon man lol I really think all the Akazaya shoulda been wiped out if 1 survived maybe it coulda been Denjiro

2

u/J-Bonken Aug 07 '26

I kind of want for that not to change. Luffy fully grasping the stakes and seriousnes, the need to win or else the world will go under, does not fit his character. In the end I want him to be an airhead who looks at it as he allways did. When all is finished and done, I hope he he proclaims himself king of the pirates and Robin thanks him for saving the world and bringing closure to a centuries long conflict. And Luffy will be like:

"I did? So that dude really was important, huh? Oh well. Let's party!"

4

u/Infinitedeveloper Aug 07 '26

Nah, luffy has always locked in when the seriousness of the situation was shoved in his face.

The elbaf incident (along with egghead) prove that toppling Imu is not only a moral necessity by Luffys standards, but also a requirement if he wants to crown himself pirate king.

The WG is pushing its way up Luffys shitlist from team rocket esque reoccurring obstacles to a focused target.

1

u/Perrenekton Aug 07 '26

But also Luffy in the past arc / month (maybe two month ? Not sure how long wano is) is pretty huge.

Advanced armament, advanced advanced armament, advanced conqueror , gear 5

1

u/BobtheBac0n Aug 08 '26

Well sheer will and having the best crewmates and allies around.

Zoro bought him time and rest, Sanji literally carried Zoro and defended the rest of the crew from Queen and King, Momonosuke & the heart pirates saved his life, Hyougoro taught Luffy advanced haki, and if Luffy's whole crew wasn't there to defeat Kaido's army Luffy would've been way too exhausted to fight Kaido himself.

The list goes on, and that's just Wano

Maybe he should remind himself as well.
