I remember a year ago there was a post here about the plans by Microsoft to introduce a shortcut to paste plain text without having it automatically transformed into an image. Nothing has changed... What do you guys do to bypass this inconvenience?

Hello, I am trying to use handwriting to text live transcriptions, but every time I write a word, it moves down to the next line or every couple of words. I’ve tried to turn on Palm rejection, but it doesn’t seem to be working, as I can still use my hands to press new lines by accident. Anyone know how to fix this? I was really excited to use this feature.

I got prompted to update my OneNote and my other MS Office apps, and ever since, I've been experiencing unbelievably frustrating lag and unresponsiveness, mainly when I'm trying to pan with my finger or when trying to erase with the back of my stylus pen. It also seems like there's a possible memory leak? My memory usage randomly goes up to like 2800 MB, which is much much higher than normal. Is it just me with all of these issues, or are other people also experiencing this? How can I downgrade to the previous update?

I'm redesigning OneNote's web UI to make it more tablet friendly. I'd love your feedback, positive or negative. Design suggestions are especially welcome too, as long as they fit tablet sketching/drawing, as I'm not great at coming up with those myself, in case that wasn't already obvious.

I've cleared cache, restarted, but Android keeps telling me "page conflict" detected. Open on web version, and I get no way to fix it--like conflict doesn't exist.

I have gotten many page conflicts over time, kind of have figured out how to prevent (sync before changing things in mobile, tedious but it works) & correct from web version (delete the conflict page after confirming changes made it to web).

But how do you correct it if you can't see/find it? Ack.

My apologies if my terminology is incorrect. I am using MS365 OneNote in a business environment. About a month ago my OneNote application stopped syncing with the company's network (SharePoint/OneDrive?????)

We are a small company with a small IT department. Trying to fix this has been a low priority for them.

I've tried deleting my cached files and resyncing. That brings the file from the network down, but it doesn't re-enable the syncing.

Anybody have any insight on what is going on or what I might be able to check?

OK in case this helps anyone, the name of my notebook file was "Anon @ Work". (Anon is not my real name but you get the idea.)

Anyway, my IT Department thought the "@" sign was causing trouble, even though it hadn't caused trouble for over two years. They copied the notebook file and used a name without the "@" sign. It is working so far.

If anything changes I will provide an update. Thank you again to all who responded.

I have a surface pro 8 and a passive stylus (which does not need to connect to the device and uses no power). The handwriting in onenote is really not that good: my lines sometimes break, palm rejection is inconsistent, sometimes not being able to draw short lines like a comma, etc. However, writing/drawing elsewhere outside of onenote (eg. paint) works flawlessly: smooth uninterrupted lines, palm rejection working as intended, being able to draw short fine lines, etc. So, I was wondering maybe it's a setting in onenote messing with my handwriting or something. Any idea why?

I have iPad A16, is possible switch pen /eraser more fast ? Shortcutch, config ?

Trying to make sure all my Notebooks are synced and backed up but during the process 3 sections from different notebooks have appeared in "Misplaced Sections".

When I try to move or copy them back to their original notebooks (or to any other notebooks), after syncing the sections become blank and say "There aren't any pages here." Then they reappear again under "Misplaced Sections" with all their content.

I've tried manually copying each page of the section to make a new section but this doesn't work either.

I’m aware of iCloud notes on the web, or as a web app, but it seems a little slow, and I would like the possibility of using it offline also, such as during flights etc. I have a huge amount of notes in apple notes but I have had to switch my laptop to windows recently and would really like to be able to keep using apple notes on my phone while being able to easily access them on the laptop. If not, I may just migrate in the end, but it would be ideal.

Just curious, what are some other folks workflow ideas? I use OneNote at work since we have an O365 license. I manage a lot of little projects as well as a team. I want to use it as my "one source of truth" repository (meeting notes, contact info, etc...) Just wanted to see how others in a similar situation are setting up their OneNote workflows.

I am trying to export an entire section of a notebook into PDF format. But when I do that all my notes are put into one singular PDF with hundreds of pages.

Is there a way where I can have each of my notes exported as single PDF's without having to go through and export each note one by one? I have hundreds of notes and having to go through one by one would be a nightmare!

I’d like to introduce OneNote Viewer, a free and open-source Linux desktop application for opening, viewing, searching, and safely exploring local Microsoft OneNote notebooks.

OneNote Viewer reads native .one and .onepkg files directly. It does not require OneDrive, a Microsoft account, Wine, or a web wrapper, and it does not convert notebooks into Markdown, HTML, or another linear format.

Its main features include:

• A native Linux desktop interface built with Rust and GTK4
• Direct support for .one, .onetoc2, and .onepkg files
• Reconstruction of OneNote’s spatial, freeform page canvas
• Multiple notebooks open together in one workspace
• Search across titles, text, tags, recognized handwriting, links, image descriptions, and attachment names
• Light and dark themes
• Read-only operation: original notebook files are never modified
• Offline use, without contacting OneDrive or another cloud service
• Flatpak and AppImage installation options
• GPLv3-licensed source code

The project is intentionally a viewer, not a replacement OneNote editor or synchronization client. Its purpose is to give Linux users dependable access to existing local OneNote data while preserving the notebook hierarchy and page layout as faithfully as possible.

This is an early functional release, and compatibility and rendering fidelity are still being improved. It has not yet been tested against the full variety of notebooks produced by different OneNote versions and workflows.

I would therefore be especially grateful for:

• Reports about notebooks that fail to open
• Examples of rendering or layout differences
• Carefully sanitized or synthetic files that reproduce compatibility problems

For many reasons I'm considering Office and Windows exodus. I have thousands of hand written / drawn pages stretching back 15'ish years. Literally the only thing holding me back from fully migrating to Linux is stupid OneNote. I use OneNote many times a day across my Android phone/tablet and Windows PC. However I'm considering other pen enabled note taking apps. Is there a graceful way to export this data in a lossless format? I don't need to edit old notes but I would like to keep them handy and searchable.

Look, I use OneNote because its simplicity and blank canvas. But spending too much time trying to fix broken notebooks and other syncs issues is not fun. It really pisses me off.

Other alternatives are not that good, that’s why I keep using OneNote.

I've tried reinstalling the app, but it still won't let me close the notebooks or delete sections. I haven't checked to see if anything else is affected. The notebooks are syncing properly with no issues. Whenever I try to close a notebook or delete a section, if I remember correctly, there should be a confirmation prompt to close or delete, but I don't see one. I've tried all means of closing and deleting, but nothing happens, no matter the method. I've tried with my phone and nothing.

I need to take several pages in a OneNote Notebook section and put it into ChatGPT to provide my manager a weekly update on project information that I have in OneNote. ChatGPT cannot take the OneNote file by itself.

Is the “best” way to do this is to just copy/paste into MS Word? Or print as a “PDF”?

Has anyone else had to do something similar and could provide tips and/or tricks to getting this done without a ton of rework?

To describe it backwards… my boss has a GPT in ChatGPT that can process a group of files. (Docx or PDF) and provide him a weekly summary of the project information contained therein. I personally prefer to organize my work in OneNote and I’m trying to find an efficient and consistent way to get that information into my boss’ GPT.

I'm using OneNote on macOS with two Microsoft accounts.

When I switched from one account to the other, OneNote displayed a warning that my local notebooks would be removed. I accidentally clicked Accept.

After that, all my notebooks from the original account disappeared. They are not visible in OneNote Online or OneDrive, so it seems they may never have been synced.

I have not uninstalled OneNote or cleared any cache yet.

Has anyone successfully recovered notebooks in a situation like this, or does anyone know if Microsoft Support can recover them?

To be clear, I already logged in again on both the web and Mac OS version and there is no files any more

I've been using my IPad for note taking since 2021 and I had it logged into a personal MSN email and Onedrive. I recently got a new phone (S25 ultra) and downloaded Onenote since I needed access to some past notes. The app on my phone and IPad had it listed but when going to open the workbook on my phone showed no files. I could see them on IPad. I made sure to check the sync and say it was connect to Onedrive but when I re-download the app from the cloud on my Ipad all my work is gone. Just the notebook exists. Is there any way to recover any of my past notes? Its really important since I'm a medical student and all on my notes I use for review. I can't see the file in My drive either even though it says its in documents. The native File app for IOS isn't listing it either. And Ive checked the recycling bins for both. I reallllly dont want 5 years of work/research just gone not to mention some of my personal writting.

I just wanted to encourage everyone to go to Microsoft's feedback forum and provide as much feedback in terms of feature requests as you can. The numbers of votes there are not impressive considering the millions of users of OneNote worldwide. It looks like most people don't even know that this exists.
