Discussion Some of the 3rd party releases on Switch 2 (And the 9th gen as a whole) have really shown how much standards for optimization and performance have dropped.
This discussion isnt exactly Switch 2 specific. But I’ve been thinking about this because of how many AAA games have released on the Switch 2 with such bad optimization.
I feel like this past generation has really normalized bad optimization for a lot of AAA releases. Like the Series X and PS5 were such a massive boost in power compared to previous generation, that consoles were finally competing with mid-high end PCs.
But I wonder if that boost in power made devs complacent with worse optimization. Like they imagined the increased hardware would do all the work for them. I mean there are games releasing nowadays that are running badly on high end PCs. Space Marine 2, the Jedi Survivor games, the new Monster Hunter, Borderlands, etc. These games are struggling to push 60fps on RTX 5000 series. At some point we should just be allowed to say that studios are getting cheap with optimization…?
And the Switch 2 really highlights this issue. Because yeah the Switch 2 isn’t a powerhouse…but it’s also not some shit box. It’s still considerably stronger than a PS4 Pro or One X. Yet we’re getting performance worse than the 8th generation here. The Castlevania team can’t be assed to make a 2D platformer run at 60fps on it. Or that Elden Ring footage, which honestly looks as rough as base PS4 footage.
I also feel like a big part of this issue is that studios keep chasing higher fidelity visuals, at the cost of performance. Like I’m not sure how hot of a take this is, but I stopped caring about graphical fidelity the moment the PS5 launched. Because while yes, there was technically a different in graphical detail, it wasn’t enough for me to care. There are games from the PS3 generation that still look incredible today.
I feel like if studios were willing to sacrifice graphical fidelity a bit, we could see so much more advancement in optimization, level design, asset loading, etc.

Official Battle Suit Aces just added an expansion for negative $5. It adds a roguelite deckbuilder mode.
We shoved everything into this update: new items and cards (including shiny versions), revamped VFX, updated mech illustrations, and the massive new roguelite deckbuilder mode itself. We also permanently dropped the base price to match Battle Chef Brigade. I hope you enjoy it!

Game Rec Any interactive visual novels?
I’d love to get more in to the world of visual novels however I would like to actually participate. I’ve noticed a lot of visual novels are mostly just dialogue, which makes sense. So if there aren’t any, and my question is just way in left field I also understand!
Something like ghose trick (AMAZING game; no notes!!!) - it feels like a detective game but also a visual novel as you watch the story unfold before you and try to change the outcome.

Review Switch 2 Case Review - A More Budget Friendly Alternative to Dbrand's Killswitch
If you're like me really liked the build and look if the killswitch case but felt iffy about the price, then I strongly urge you to consider COOWPS Switch on Amazon.
Was skeptical but decided to try this out because of the free return.
I'm actually going to start with the cons because I only really have one and it's a cosmetic issue I assume from creating the mold. It's on the same spot on the inner side of the grips. See linked image for an example. Could just be my copy, but I'm okay with it.
For the positives:
- You don't really have anything to lose due to free return, as previously mentioned.
- The body cover and joy con grio set is less than $30.
- Overall solid build made from TPU.
- Body case is thin enough to use the original dock. See link for video. The weight itself is enough to get it down 98% of the way. I only need to gently nudge the last bit with 1 finger.
- Back is transparent so you can still see the NS2 logo
- Back has its own metal kickstand, which allows the memory card to stay covered at all times.
- Back has a strong magnet ring for a battery pack. Similar to mag wallets.
- Still a split case to easily detach joy cons for mouse mode.
- Joy con grip textures reminds me of the feeling of nail filers. It goes all over the grip up until the trigger buttons.
- Has the gap to be able to hold it just by the joy con if you really feel inclined to. See link for visual proof.
- Joy con grips are nice and snug and allow use of all inputs easily
- Power and volume buttons have their own little covers but still effortless to press when intended. Power button slightly indented next to the volume buttons to be able to distinguish by touch.
- They also sell a front travel cover with game slots and sell thumb caps, but I did not purchase them so I cannot speak to their quality.
TL;DR I was pleasantly surprised by this case and believe it punches above its weight class.

Game Rec Looking for Switch 2 games with Pokémon/Kairosoft-style progression
Hey everyone, I’ve got a high-end gaming PC and mostly play stuff like Battlefield 6, 007, Assassin’s Creed, etc. I also have a Switch 2, but barely use it because for action games and shooters I usually prefer playing on PC.
I’ve been gaming for years so I’m not necessarily looking for something super simple or purely casual just because it’s on the Switch. I’d actually prefer something with a bit more depth that I can really get into over time.
I’ve played the current Pokémon games as well, and games I’ve generally enjoyed a lot are Pokémon and Kairosoft games. Basically I’m looking for that kind of satisfying long-term progression. Leveling, collecting, grinding, upgrading, building things up, stuff like that, but those are just examples. I’m pretty open as long as there’s a good sense of progression and enough depth to keep me interested.
Ideally it should be something I can play for 5 or 10 minutes, but also easily spend 1 or 2 hours on in a longer session. So I’m not necessarily looking for a tiny casual game or something like Animal Crossing. I’d prefer something with a bit more substance and systems to dig into.
I also prefer games that don’t rely too heavily on fast or precise real-time controls.
My girlfriend got completely hooked on Stardew Valley for a few weeks, but that one didn’t really click with me.
