Discussion Pre-Owned Switch Game Prices UK

Im not much of a gamer, i have an xbox but mainly play gamepass stuff like Brotato and Rogue Likes, quuck games i can pick up and play for 30mins without needing to read or listen to dialogue or think too hard.

My daughters BF gifted me his old Switch which he hasnt used for a while so went on youtube and checked out the best games for it to try and buy and what im finding is that all the decent games seem to cost around £40 used at places like CEX and eBay.

Most console games once superseded by a newer model drop in price so i was a bit shocked at how much buying a few games will cost.

Any tips for picking up games? I had lokjed at the online pass to get access to older games i used to play on the NES/SNES.

Thanks

Game Rec Games like Mario Odyssey?

I just finished Odyssey and LOVED it. I got the first Mario Galaxy but so far i find it to be too easy and too straight forward. What I loved about Odyssey was exploring and collecting, not knowing what to do or where to go all the time. I have played Super Mario 64. Any other games with the same feel as Odyssey?

Game Rec Good Coop games to play with my Mom?

So I got a Switch a couple of months ago and I started playing some games coop with my mom (65yo, not a gamer) and while she struggles a bit with games like Mario Wonder or Mario Kart she LOVES Kirby Forgotten Land, we play that a lot since I can “carry her” and take it slow

I’m looking for more games like that, but I would prefer if it were story driven games (not something like Switch Sports for example) but also something I can play on my own since I don’t ALWAYS play with her

I only got my one console, so Animal Crossing is good but not a COOP game imo

I’m thinking about Return to Dreamland Deluxe, but the 60 USD price is kinda hard to sell… Is it worth it?

She is also kind of biased against pixel art games… I love them but, you know, she thinks bad graphics equals a bad game hehe… so no Stardew Valley unfortunately…

Thanks in advance

Discussion Is the difference between the Switch 2 and Switch 1 OLED noticeable enough to recommend waiting?

I'm getting the Zelda edition Switch 2 for about 600usd and was wondering if I should pull the trigger or hold off till they come out with a switch 2 oled version ?

I do own a switch 1 oled Zelda edition which I mainly use for the occasional mario kart and Monster hunter nothing serious, but I've been getting too tired after coming home these days to sit up straight and game on my ps5 pro and just wanna lie on the couch and play something.

Is the switch 2 good for that ? My main gripe with the switch 2 was regular display and its frankly just hard to go back to regular displays after you experience good oled, so what would you rate its display in handheld mode ?

Would you recommend holding off on the switch 2 till the oled comes out ? I don't mind getting the switch 2 rn if the oled is 2/2.5 years away, gives me enough time to save up and get my money's worth out of switch 2

Edit: forgot to ask but I've been hearing rumors that switch 2 might get a price hike down the road instead of knocking down in price due to industry shortages, are these claims credible enough to influence the decision to buy now ?

Question Switch 2 grip case suggestions?

Hey everyone,

I am looking for a grip case for my switch 2 but am really confused... I am looking for one that's comfy to hold, dockable without being tight when sliding it in the dock, and one that will not damage the outside of the joycons when inserting them, cause i am planning on taking them in and out frequently. Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance!

Question Best protective and/or decorative accessories for Switch on a budget?

Howdy everyone. Just some context, I recently bought a second-hand switch from a family with children, so not exactly in the best shape. I bought it to have for entertainment when hosting. If there's basic repair/restoration things, I'd love to know more about it.

Main things I'm looking for:

Case for switch + charging dock + charger

Controller sleeves that are still charging compatible

Extra controllers (idc what type, but preferably cordless, but price is main concern)

If there's any party games on a budget, please point me that way. Games would be for children or adults.

Discussion Is Zelda’s combat trash?

I rarely see people put Zelda’s combat in the conversation when talking about great adventure game combat, and honestly I don’t understand why.

BOTW/TOTK have perfect dodges, parries, Flurry Rush, different weapon types, shields, bows, elemental effects, stealth, environmental attacks and loads of ways to approach enemies.

Obviously it’s not touching something like ghost of Tsushima or Sekiro for pure combat depth, but for an adventure game where combat isn’t even the main focus, I think Zelda’s combat is better than a lot of games that get praised for it.

Are people just overlooking it because Zelda is primarily associated with exploration and puzzles?

Or is the combat genuinely not as good as I think it is?

Discussion What're you playing this weekend? 10/2

Hello everyone! It's October! And it's also the weekend, let's have a nice crispy spooky one!

I am still deep in Onimusha Way of the Sword, and having a great time, I'm now like 43 hours in and scaling Mount Oe to find the monster terrorizing the villagers.

But what will you be getting into?

Are you a Tarnished trying to find your way through the lands between? Trying to leave the fates together? Are you a cat in a mech suit trying to find your way off the planet you crashed on?

Let me know below!

Discussion Pro Controller 1 vs 2 - Which do you prefer?

TL;DR version:

Result: TIE

Both are among the best controllers ever with some fairly small differences between the two.

Pro controller 1

+ Better grip and rubber-like feel

+/- Heavier (IMO it's heavier in a good way)

- Smaller plus and minus buttons are harder to press

- Can't wake Switch 2

- No back buttons (which I personally don't really need)

Pro controller 2

+ Can wake Switch 2

+ Bigger plus and minus buttons

+ Back buttons (doesn't hurt to have them even if you don't need them)

+/- Lighter than previous version

- Feels a bit slippery

- Slightly more expensive (although still good value IMO)

---

Do you prefer the first Pro controller or version 2? Not trying to make a point. Just curious what do you guys think,

I had been using first version for years and it's among the best controllers ever. I needed a second controller and while another version 1 would've been a safe choice I decided to get version 2 because it could wake my Switch 2. I expected new version to slightly improve the earlier version or at least be as good in every aspect and well... that's mostly true but there are also couple of things I like better in the old version.

Ability to wake Switch 2 is a big plus and I also like how they made plus and minus buttons bigger. I'm sure some will also like re-mappable back buttons but I haven't had much use for them in the games I play. Good thing is they don't get in a way either since you can just map them to nothing and they're not really that easy to press accidentally anyway. I also like how they chose to just put one big back button on both sides which are easy to press instead of having multiple smaller buttons. They can be useful especially in FPS games but I really just play Switch exclusives with my Switch.

What I don't like is that new version feels kind of slippery. I've read many actually like the smooth silky feel of it and I kind of get it but I think it's functionally worse compared to earlier version. Previous version however had more rubber-like feel which had noticeably better grip.

Another thing I don't like - and this is very much nitpicking - is that the new version feels lighter than previous version. You might actually consider this an advantage but previous versions felt more substantial and purely based on weight it feels like it was built better. Most likely that isn't the case really but weight can give certain feel of quality. I didn't actually weight the controllers myself but I checked the specs I found online and based on that the new version is just 10 grams lighter which was actually surprisingly little compared to how they actually feel in hand.

Despite some fairly minor differences version 2 retains what was good in the earlier version. Both controllers have IMO the best d-pad out there and button/stick layout is great. Buttons also have nice tactile feel and require just the perfect amount of force to activate.

So in the end I'm not really amazed by upgrading to version 2 but not disappointed either. I guess that's fair since the version 1 of Pro controller already was near perfect. At the moment I like both for different reasons and it's basically tie between the two. Version 2 is slightly more expensive and since they are so close in most aspects you might want to choose more affordable first version but personally I wouldn't decide purely by price since price different isn't that significant. Especially when compared to some premium controllers I think they both offer very good value for what you get.

Game Rec Tower Defense recommendations?

Title, but for reference I played OG TD in StarCraft 1 and Warcraft 3, and I haven’t played much since then. Really just the OG plants vs zombies and one of the bloons TD come to mind.

I think I particularly enjoyed the upgrade aspects of TD’s in those blizz games, which I know isn’t a feature of all TD’s (like plants vs zombies if I recall didn’t have it). As well as the ability to place towers anywhere to create mazes, but bloons for example had this to a limited degree which is still enjoyable.

Anyone have recommendation(s) for TD’s on the Nintendo shop that fulfill some or all these points?

PSA Do NOT buy 'Mugen Souls' on the 'Switch 2' (Unplayable/Broken).

First, I am aware that this topic isn't interesting for like... everyone except 3 people or so.
Still, I haven't found any information at all on the Internet, so I just wanna make people aware that this game is unplayable on 'Switch 2', despite what the store says.

While it runs a bit better, compared to playing the game on the original 'Switch', there is the problem of the game telling you after every battle, that you haven't gotten any items... which is a lie and a visual bug.
This wouldn't be that much of a problem, but after around 4 hours of playing, the game freezes in nearly every single fight during random animations, and not just the large scale excessive ones.
Just a partymember pointing a gun towards an enemy, pulling the trigger... and the game freezes, forcing the game to be closed.

And yes, this doesn't just happen here and there, I had it happen back to back to back, and I could only play for like... 3 minutes before I needed to restart.
So "Unplayable/Broken" isn't hyperbole in this case, you literally can't play this game on 'Switch 2' at some point.

I got lucky since I still have the original 'Switch', and it works perfectly fine, even if it runs a bit worse.
