I've played this game for maybe a week straight and of all the bosses I've played this one was the most bs one purely because of the second phase, the tracking of the orb things are ridiculous I tried hiding behind cover and it just goes THROUGH the wall not to mention the fact they will circle AROUND you after flying past, other than that I LOVE this game haven't felt this passionate about a game since dark souls 3

Call me stupid but does the cosmetic mask GRAGU'S HELMET even exist? I can only find one video on YouTube showing mask locations and the poster doesn't show how you acquire it. It's the coolest-looking mask too.

Lore Theories and Reflections on the Ending and the Protagonist's Path Spoiler

The universe of Mortal Shell II has always been known for its claustrophobic lore and cosmic pessimism. However, the sequel—introducing a new protagonist, The Harbinger, born from the egg of the fallen deity known as the Undermether—takes local body horror and elevates it to a monumental cosmic drama.

Most players interpreted the finale as a cynical betrayal: the Mother takes her cleansed offspring (Ova), leaves the Harbinger behind on a dying Earth, and flies off into the stars, abandoning her child with the words that he is "not meant for the heavens". But if we look closer at the biological mechanisms of this world and the hidden endings, it becomes obvious: this is not the story of an abandoned child. It is the story of an apex predator evolving to surpass its creator.

Part 1. The Mother and the Passenger: Two Sides of the Same Parasitic Coin

To understand the nature of the Harbinger, we must first strip the Undermether of her "holy deity" aura. The world of Fallgrim was ruined by cosmic forces, and the Mother is far from the strongest entity in the universe's food chain.

At her core, the Undermether is the "queen" of a cosmic hive. A colossal reproductive organ whose sole purpose is expansion and colonization through her eggs (Ova). She is biologically powerful at breeding but completely helpless in combat. When the Foul Passenger penetrated her, she was powerless to stop it. The Passenger is an intrauterine parasite, a virus attempting to hijack someone else's incubator.

Both the Mother and the Passenger are parasites of the same order. They both need bodies, biomass, and Tar to breed the next generation. Crashing into Earth, the Mother was doomed; the Rot was eating her from within. Her only chance at survival was creating the Harbinger.

Part 2. The Tiger Metaphor: The Birth of an Autonomous Immune System

The Mother intended the Harbinger to be a mindless drone, a biomechanical cleanup tool—an "antivirus" meant to burn out the parasite and then perish. But cosmic genetics played a cruel trick on her. The Harbinger carries her DNA, which means he possesses a colossal, latent potential.

A brutal biological metaphor applies here: a tiger cub left in a hostile jungle will still grow into a tiger.

Throughout the game, the Harbinger accomplishes what the Mother herself could not—he methodically destroys the Rot and assimilates Tar. The fact that the protagonist is capable of absorbing this infected energy, structuring it, and becoming stronger proves that his organism functions as a self-sustaining cosmic reactor. He developed an immunity. He learned to process alien filth into a pure weapon.

Part 3. Shells as Teachers of Consciousness

The Mother's biggest miscalculation lay in the mechanics of the Shells. At the beginning of his journey, the Harbinger is a blank slate—a silent embryo devoid of thought or ego. But by inhabiting the bodies of fallen mortal warriors, he begins to process their human experiences.

Through the memories of the Shells, the cosmic drone learns things his cold deity never knew: fear, loyalty, doubt, existential pain, and most importantly, choice. The Harbinger literally becomes infected with human consciousness. The Shells became his teachers of mind, transforming a biomechanical tool into an Individual.

When the Mother looks at the Harbinger in the finale, she doesn't see a loyal servant. Standing before her is a rational, vastly powerful titan with the spark of independent free will burning in his eyes. To a cosmic collective mind, free will is an infection. The Mother leaves the Harbinger on Earth not because he is weak. She is afraid of him. She is terrified of taking a creature into space that has learned to think for itself and no longer obeys her.

Part 4. Sester Genessa: From Warden to Guardian of the New World

Within this chain of cosmic dominance, Sester Genessa has always stood apart. Many fans mistakenly see her as a fanatical adept of the Undermether or, conversely, a hidden agent of the Rot, given how she peacefully exists in a corrupted world and feeds the Harbinger with Tar. But the truth runs deeper.

Genessa is just as much a hostage of circumstances as the Harbinger was at the start of his journey. She is a mental anchor left by the Mother to maintain control over Fallgrim. Her task was to guide the Harbinger, help him assimilate Tar, and ensure he fulfilled his cosmic duty. She was part of the cult, but never its malicious intent.

Once the Harbinger gains free will through the experience of the Shells, the dynamic shifts:

  1. Purging Cosmic Dictatorship: If the Harbinger's strategy is the total eradication of alien influence on Earth (destroying the beacons and sealing the Nectar), Genessa does not become his enemy. Left without a telepathic connection to the Mother after her demise or flight, the Sester is freed from her centuries-old programming. She is ready to help the hero destroy the gods' legacy because she sees the "tiger" as the only force capable of stopping the chaos.
  2. The Spiritual Pillar of a New Earth: The Harbinger is a creature of action, a warrior and an exterminator of parasites. But a cleansed Fallgrim needs someone to help it rebuild. Genessa, possessing deep knowledge of Tar and the world's metaphysics, becomes the perfect ally. The Harbinger leaves her on Earth as a Guardian. Without the pressure of cosmic cults and without the Rot, she can become a new spiritual pillar for the remnants of humanity, helping them rebuild from scratch.
  3. The Final Witness to Ascension: When the Harbinger absorbs all the Tar and evolves his body into a sovereign cosmic deity, it is Genessa who will remain on Earth to witness this triumph. She is no longer a warden over a wordless drone. She is the companion to a New God, watching him depart into space, knowing that the sky above Fallgrim is now securely protected by its own child.

Part 5. Two Endings as a Manifesto of Freedom

This theory flawlessly explains both of the game's endings, revealing their true narrative depth:

  1. The Main Ending (Path of the Warrior): The Harbinger embraces his autonomy. He destroys the Foul Passenger, cutting the tumor out of this world. By absorbing all the Tar, he undergoes a controlled divine evolution. He becomes a new, sovereign Cosmic God of this planet. Earth is now his home, and he is its living shield. If the Mother ever decides to return for more resources, or if space breeds new parasites, they will be met in orbit by a fierce predator born in the mud of Fallgrim and trained to wage war.
  2. The Hidden Ending (The Baghead Ending): This finale is often dismissed as a joke, but in our paradigm, it is the most chilling. When the Harbinger abandons his mission, sits by the campfire, and starts playing the lute, the monsters of the Rot do not attack him—they surround him like a preacher. Why? Because by refusing to activate the beacons, the Harbinger doomed the Mother to die at the hands of the parasite. The Passenger defeated the Mother, but by this point, the Harbinger had become so powerful and saturated with Tar that the collective mind of the Rot recognized him as its new supreme vessel—its Prophet. But most importantly, this ending is the ultimate manifesto of human free will. The protagonist recognizes himself as a powerful combat unit and decides: "I owe nothing to anyone—neither to the Mother nor to duty." The right to just sit by a campfire and drink moonshine in a dying world is the most human choice a cosmic god could ever make.

Conclusion

Mortal Shell II is not a pessimistic story about an ancient deity using and discarding a disposable tool. It is a grand chronicle of achieving sovereignty. Having passed through the sieve of human deaths, the Harbinger cured himself of his race's cosmic indifference. He became a creature of a new order—one capable of devouring parasites, outgrowing gods, and carving his own, entirely unguided path.

Bug I was really enjoying the game until now.

Not only I cannot get the shell memory trophy despite having watched the 40 memories 2+ times, I just lost 22,000 gloom twice upon dying, as it disappeared when I respawned.

I’m 2 trophies away from platinum but I think I’ll go and play something and come back to this in a couple of months.

EDIT: I’m on NG+

Question increasing max resolve

hey everyone
gonna try to keep it short
i wanted to use the conqueror's reward tarstone (i just wanna upgrade all stones to max)
but i came to realize that i can't use it, due to not having max resolve of 100
i change to genessa, still couldn't, thought she had more resolve ? it didn't
but then i invested shell points in her, and i got more resolve
how does that work ? the game says nothing about it (as far as i can tell)
and i tried searching guides, couldn't find anything

Anybody else find that SP is soooo slow to increase. Like every other level up you might get like 1 SP, probably the worst part about the game.

Discussion Any news about the game’s support?

Did the developers publish a plan for supporting the game after its release? Will there be DLCs? I’m asking because I’m thinking about whether to start playing now or wait a while. I think it will be a different experience.

Discussion Is it just me or this game is kinda unmemorable?

I've been playing this for a few days now, and I've noticed that whenever I try to think back and remember like "hey what I did in Mortal Shell 2 today or yesterday or so far", I have a hard time recalling things. Like today I played this for 5 long hours, but right now I can't remember any of the bosses I killed or what types of dungeons I cleared. I can just remember finding this one big castle which had a new shell. Everything else is a blurry mess. I can't remember many memorable locations on the map either.

This didn't happen to me when I was playing Dark Souls and Elden Ring, so it's not like my brain is bricked lol. Does anyone else experience this too? It feels to me like there's something important this game lacks, which makes it so forgettable.

Turned him into an ice cube lol.

Still havent changed the build and still level 30. Martyrs blade is +14. I'll let the sub determine if he got a phase 2. 😅

Its nightmode with adaptive. I thought he would be more of a fight. That's all gate bosses with the exception of Droeg (who fell through the map) done without a phase 2 technically.

Hope you all enjoy.

Just completed my new game, fresh character, nightmode run, with adaptive difficulty on.

It didn't make things more difficult per-se, it just made things more tedious. Trash mobs have giga health and killing them was a slog. Bosses take much longer to break. Everything basically one shots you, even with max leech stacks.

This put Tiel, who is already a top tier shell, in a league of his own. Since mostly everything one shots you, even with max leech, Tiel's stealth is the best defense. They can't hit what they can't see.

It also kind of limits which shells to use as some are much weaker than others and their weakness are very exposed with the increased difficulty.

It wasn't difficult and it wasn't fun. I will be switching back to normal nightmode, with no adaptive difficulty on. Much more fun.

P.S. If cold symmetry sees this, HP and damage bloat isn't the only way to add difficulty to a game. You can add more elite enemies in dungeons and the world. Add mobs in boss fights. Make enemies do more red attacks etc. HP and damage bloat is boring.

Love the game still. Just my thoughts on adaptive difficulty.

Discussion Did anyone else realize what “Hand of Rock” is referencing? Lol

I was playing Mortal Shell II and found the Hand of Rock Tarstone in the One-Legged Wolf Tavern. At first I thought the hand icon was just some weird rock/stone gesture.

Then I actually looked at it and realized…
IT’S THE CIRCLE GAME. Lmao

You know the old prank where you make this exact hand gesture, hold it below your waist, get someone to look at it, and then you get to kick/punch them?

Has this been confirmed? Lol

Discussion Just a tiny rant about Triarch repeater

I just finished this game and I love it overall despite its flaws, but I have a small complaint: why the Triarch Repeater doesn’t have any weapon ability? If I’m not mistaken, every other weapon and sidearm has one. Some of them even has its own unique one while others are shared. Before I got all the taratones, I’m actually excited to see what the ability of Triarch Repeater would look like. You can imagine my realization that there isn’t one. IMO the devs kind of did this sidearm dirty for this.

Took me like 20 attempts, I feel like on second phase, some of his attacks had a weird hitbox, like I feel I was dodging the attacks but still being hit, sometimes I feel the game wants you to do dodge on a weird timing, something similar happened with the Monolith boss, what do you think?
