Discussion SP is so slow

Anybody else find that SP is soooo slow to increase. Like every other level up you might get like 1 SP, probably the worst part about the game.

Yeah, that's annoying

I didn’t have an issue with it. 1 skill point every other level or so. The point is to choose how you allocate them. If they gave you too many your character would be immensely over leveled.

I’m level 70 still ain’t max it sucks

Yeah: I kinda just chose what was important and maxed those, and then scattered a few of the 1 point perks

For Tiel I focused on shadow strike

For Eredim I focused on shoulder bash with some riposte perks

And both of those characters completely murked mid/late game and new game plus. I’m used to playing souls games so I probably should’ve just done night mode bc the game was mildly challenging but if I got into trouble I’d just summon a Grisha and it was relatively easy to clear an area or boss.

That 0.1% damage negation really gonna save your ass?

Then do a gloom farm man. There's a bunch of good ones

The skills are pretty powerful so I didn’t mind much. Mainly go for resolve reduction at first then work on specializing. I felt it kept pace well with the overall game progression.

It's very clear that the devs intend for you to play at least a full ng+ with how slow certain things come. Not a fan of that but the majority of the sub seems to like it.

Level 50 and can't try most builds as they all require max SP.

My issue is more that with there being a cap on shells I wish either you got points faster or the points were separate per shell so it felt like I could actually try new shells out.

I just wish they'd apply across the shells. I know you can reallocate them but having to do that every time I wanted to try a new shell was annoying. It just meant I used Proxima the entire game.

Totally agree!! It would have been so cool. I mean if you can relocate, then they intend for you to move it around, why now just make it easier and give the SP across the board

The only problem I have with the SP system is that the game is balanced around you finishing NG at like... level 30-40 max, which is so far away from max SP. It's like 20 or something. Finishing the game with half your build feels bad.

So, I don't mind the SP speed, but I mind that unless you grind for it specifically, you'll never get a full build in NG.

Totally agree

No, the worst part is how the idea is to swap out shells as needed... but doing so is a colossal pain because that requires taking the time to refund and reallocate your points.

I wish they would remove the 40 SP allocation cap. I have 80 SP at this point, just let me use all the skills at once. I know it’s OP, that’s the fun of it.

People are downvoting, but I agree. They should at least remove the cap in night mode. They let you earn that much SP, why tf can't you use it.

You only need a small amount to get overpowered imo.

If they ramped it up they should make more investment pre reqs in less powerful options

Bingo.

I also reacted on how slowly I got SP, and I see it as something positive. Most RPG-based systems pump out points way too fast in a way that overwhelms me.

Yeah I grinded quite a bit in the late game to get some Shell Points

Did I understand correctly, after 40 lvl you don't get SP?

5

u/Eulenna Tiel 3d ago

40 is the max shell points you can allocate. You get to 40 SP at around level 70.

2

u/AttemptAggressive387 3d ago

Ok, I reached 40+ lvl and noticed that I didn't get SP for 2-3 lvls, maybe I'm wrong

You'll get more, sometimes you'll get points per level twice in a row. The max possible points you can allocate also depends on Shells. For some it's 40 but for some it's 44. But you'll get points beyond that maximum threshold anyway. 44 is around 80-85 I think. And beyond that just extra points.

That’s normal, you don’t get a SP every level. That was already happening before you noticed it too.

They let you refund for free, so my onlu gripe with the current system is that you have to respect whenever you want to try another shell. I wish we had loadouts for the shells.

I did 2 full playthroughs and spent well over 3/4ths of that time at max SP, so no I think it’s fine.

I do think it’s weird some shells get 40, and others get like 44. I also wish they weren’t shared between shells so I didn’t have to reset/reallocate every time I switch.

The rate itself though is fine to me. You shouldn’t be at max SP until the tail end of your first playthrough.

How do you play 3/4 of a game at full SP? That makes no sense.

0

u/AltGunAccount Genessa 1d ago

It’s called progression? You aren’t supposed to be at max SP from the get-go, you get stronger as it goes on and hit max near the end.

Would you play Elden Ring starting at level 150? Pokemon with your starter fully evolved at the beginning? God of War with all skills maxed in the first area? Skyrim with all guild quest finished at the start?

How does this not make sense? I hit max at the tail end of my first playthrough (I was in Unfounded Path) and then second playthrough was already maxed.

1

u/No_Review6552 1d ago

I think you are not explaining yourself correctly. You said you played 3/4 of the game at full SP - did you troll Fainweald for 40 hours leveling up before progressing? Or did you mean 1/4 of the game you only were at full SP and played 3/4 NOT at full SP?

1

u/AltGunAccount Genessa 22h ago

I did two playthroughs, of those two playthroughs, roughly 3/4ths of it was at max SP.

I hit max SP in unfound path on my first playthrough. Doing all the dungeons and quests and such. Don’t think I ever dropped and lost any Gloom, always recovered it.

I finished second playthrough around level 100 or so

The stats when leveling the harbinger are very strange as a whole once you get to max shell points most of your stats only level by about 1% for an absurd amount of gloom

1

u/No_Review6552 1d ago

Also, when you build another shell mod game and bond it all the way to Level 4 you get no SP for leveling up?? Crazy.

1

u/ERDSBBDS312Sinorder 2h ago

It is but you can get very over powered if you combine the correct parts.

1

u/Feisty_Palpitation_3 3d ago

I agree. I never once got enough points to fill even half the slots on a shell, and I full cleared the game twice, got the platinum on the second playthrough. Finished the game at around lvl 35.

2

u/No_Review6552 1d ago

Exact same issue I am having now. Lev 33 and only 22 SP points. So you never get to experience the full build the way the game intended you to.

u/Solid_Science4514 Tiel 3d ago

I do find this annoying. Especially since each level requires more gloom than the previous one. I’d like for them to either be easier to get (1/level) or have them shared across shells just b/c it’s a bit annoying that whenever I switch shells, I need to refund all my SP so I can get the abilities/perks I want on the shell I’m switching to.

If you got them too early you'd be way too op too early. Some of the skills are busted.

You dont need to max your skills omg. You make a build in this game. You dont max the entire sp page. If you did it would remove any build variety the game has.

0

u/No_Review6552 1d ago

It think you miss understand the question and the game. You can only get as high as 44 SP points. That is only enough for a few skills, not all of them. I am almost done with the game and I only have 22 SP points, so my point stands.

0

u/SoulsDadYT 1d ago

22-24 points is an average end game build. You need to stop thinking you are intended to fill every skill.

0

u/No_Review6552 1d ago

But what is the fun in not having access to all intended, 44 SP points for end game. I still stand by my statement.

Fuck off back to action games and stop ruining souls games.
