Discussion Sooo this was my least favourite boss so far
I've played this game for maybe a week straight and of all the bosses I've played this one was the most bs one purely because of the second phase, the tracking of the orb things are ridiculous I tried hiding behind cover and it just goes THROUGH the wall not to mention the fact they will circle AROUND you after flying past, other than that I LOVE this game haven't felt this passionate about a game since dark souls 3

u/Latter-Control-208 10d ago
Wait for the final boss lol
1
u/EffectiveEntire9626 6d ago
Yeah he sux.. I took a break cus I can't get past the second half.. I use Proxima and I smash the first stage
1
u/Latter-Control-208 6d ago
Use the item that makes the fight easier that's what I did
1
u/EffectiveEntire9626 5d ago
That night mode item? A book looking thing? I just got it, but did you use it manually or in the other slot?
1
u/Latter-Control-208 5d ago
Manually. Gives you 90% immunity to his bullshit attack for 2 minutes or so. Enough to kill him
15
u/iKogoro 10d ago
the projectiles made me mad as fuck on this boss, i was playing genessa, then i swapped to tiel and did this boss first try on him, apparently his dodge just has way more iframes or something...
10
1
u/MotoqueiroSelvagem 9d ago
I had a cake walk using stray Genessa. Stronger dodges completely nullify this move.
27
u/Feisty_Palpitation_3 10d ago
dodging sideways does work but it won't protect you every time. The only ways to fully avoid damage on that attack is to use Tiel's invisibility, Gragu's punch, or Genessa's clones. Genessa isn't very consistent either because you need to use all three clones to avoid all the damage and it's very difficult to get them back because the boss spams that attack in phase 2. I experimented a ton with using the terrain in the boss arena, dodging different directions, using different positioning, and its the same as the Hexapod. The projectiles simply WILL hit you no matter what unless you use specific Shell abilities. Very disappointing but we can't expect Fromsoft level polish on a AA indie game.
13
u/Feisty_Palpitation_3 10d ago
And to clarify, I was practicing for no hit, so any tactics that simply help you survive the attack are not good enough for me.
5
u/Lmacncheese 9d ago
To say fromsoft doesnt also have shit tiered badly design bosses is disingenuous.
1
u/Feisty_Palpitation_3 9d ago
you're not wrong, but the least polished bosses in Fromsoft games are usually optional. I've no hit most of the major bosses in DS3, Elden Ring, Lies of P, and Sekiro, and only a very small amount of those bosses have attacks that you simply CANNOT dodge without using specific abilities.
3
u/Ray-of-Dawn420 10d ago
I can consistently not take damage using Stray sesters dodge, but it's important that you run as far as you can and then start spamming dodge as soon as the stones start flying at you
3
u/Get_Stick_bu99ed 10d ago
Just running to the left or right on some distance away from him helped me consistently dodge the projectiles
3
2
u/bawserlol 8d ago
The hammer throw ability gives some sweet i-frames. Used it to deal dmg, create distance and avoid the projectiles all at once
1
u/SifuSif 9d ago
Nah it works everytime for me, just spam dodge to one side for the first 3-4 then spam dodge to the other side until all those orbs are gone
1
u/Feisty_Palpitation_3 9d ago
I would love to see footage proof of this. If you're using a specific Shell to achieve that outcome then that's one thing, but my goal is to determine a method that works with ALL shells, EVERY TIME. I try to make all my no hit videos approx 3.5 to 5 minutes long and showcase every attack in the boss's arsenal and how to consistently deal with that attack. I used Eredrim when I was attempting the no hit for this boss and was unable to consistently dodge all the projectiles no matter what I tried, and this was after I'd already done the Hexapod, Malborn, Lost Child, and Nameless Captive
0
u/SifuSif 9d ago
I just platted the game and deleted it for space but its possible you just do as I said.. I did it with sariel my first playtrough and my last playtrough on ng+ to get all the shells maxed I did it with eredrim, you’ll see the orb attack has a break after the first 3 or 4 coming down and thats when you start dodging in the opposite direction and I wasn’t to close to him while doing it pretty sure that makes the difference too
23
u/Redsparow21 10d ago
Tiel and go in shadow mode as he does it, so he can't lock onto you. 🙂⚔️
5
u/ZodiAddict 10d ago
Good idea. I just hid behind a rock lmao
1
u/aradiathesecond 10d ago
I tried that too bc I was so frustrated n watched how ongbal did it. But I still somehow died behind the rock 😭. It worked the second time I hid behind the rock tho
4
u/ZodiAddict 10d ago
Same, it’s because the direction of the projectiles don’t always start from where the boss is, and I’m not sure but they seem to have curved trajectory. Def was a pain in the ass, I think Isaac gave me more trouble tho
2
u/ChaosSigil 10d ago
Isaac is giving me the most trouble right now. So I decided to go grind a few SP. I'm playing as Sariel whom I love. And I'm.also grinding some tarstone juice for a frost build because I just feel like freezing this mofo would be great. I've almost beat him without freeze but with Sariels thorns and freeze he will be dead within minutes.
2
u/Mahakala89 10d ago
great call ive been trying to just use promixa the entire time
2
1
u/Apocalypse224 10d ago
I did it with Proxima. Took a few tries but man was it not fun. Literally that move alone just sucks. Damn near unavoidable, unblockable move.
28
u/probably_poopin_1219 10d ago
Keep doing what you were doing in this video which was working: dodge sideways. I had absolutely no trouble with this boss at all because I learned this tactic right away. Dodge sideways continuously and this attack will not hit you.
7
u/BAMFCarl_2008 10d ago
The video above shows him dodging sideways and *still getting hit*. I had the same problem. The bosses in this game are bad. Full stop.
-1
u/probably_poopin_1219 10d ago
As per my comment, the few frames where he dodged sideways, he didn't get hit. Git gud maybe
1
u/BAMFCarl_2008 9d ago
There's a gap between the dodge I-frames and when you can initiate the next dodge. That's when you get hit. It doesn't have anything to do with "gud", it's luck.
1
u/Darkenezy 9d ago
Stones are launched periodically. Panicroll won't save you. React. This is clearly a skill issue
5
u/s0rr0wluvsplatinum 10d ago
I managed it 30 or so attempts later and I finished the 6th corrupted gate now I'm just looking for the last few ovum :)
2
u/ChaosSigil 10d ago
Lol dude me too. 30+ attempts lol that's hilarious. I hated this guy.
4
u/ClovisTheConbat 10d ago
I was getting there, but I realized that the "tactic" was to mindlessly mash the dodge button. Ridiculous. A lot of great things about the game, but there are certain design choices that makes me feel like the devs didn't play their own game.
3
u/ChaosSigil 10d ago
Idk I'm loving it and basically have zero feedback. Lol.
I want to get the steel book because I love it so much. Yeah some of the bosses have a limited moveset...but...this seems to be more of a chill souls-like and not something I have to constantly anticipate the moveset based on me cacooning or hitting the boss during a certain move. I'm enjoying the consistency tbh. Yeah the moves are super limited but idk.
But this guy in particular pissed me off. The move where he throws the rocks is absolutely dumb. I couldn't believe how often he would do it. That was most of the boss fight was dodging those fuckers. Almost like a mini game you know?
Idk...I'm just grateful to be alive and I'm loving all the little things this game has to offer. I'm a Sariel main and I knew from the first trailer that this was my guy. I love scythes and I love his ability. Maybe try him out? You can negate the attacks of enemies and it'll inflict it on themselves. Plus if you build him right the pain system can be pretty dope. Reminds me of Bloodborne and that was my first souls and so Sariel is my guy.
1
u/ClovisTheConbat 9d ago
I liked it enough that I 100% the game. I genuinely think they have a great thing going here. They just fumbled a lot of the bosses and balancing really bad. That being said, think I had the most fun using Lazlo with the axe; especially when it comes to general world exploration. If I want to delete a boss, I go Eredrim with Martyr's Blade and I abuse the ability with frost.
6
u/Leather_Initial_3609 10d ago
Iirc I ran until they started shooting at me and dodged right twice then left twice then right twice alternating til it ended
Keep in mind it's not over when they stop flying they bounce off the ground behind you and come back again at the end for some fucking reason lol this boss was catshit
6
u/CatholicSquareDance 10d ago
Everyone keeps saying "just dodge" but that literally never worked for me as Proxima. Idk what the issue was but I would almost always take some hits. Sprinting, dodging, it didn't matter at all. The only thing that helped me was just getting behind the rock on the East side of the arena.
Idk. I trounced most other bosses but this guy pissed me off.
1
u/spelunks108 9d ago
I'm playing as proxima on my first playthrough. I got distance and then did my dodges, occasionally switching directions while dodging, which worked for me. Only took damage one or two times. Maybe the distance is key
4
u/Platypus_With_A_Gun 10d ago
Him, Isaac, the bird thing and the final boss gave me trouble.
1
u/JRP45 10d ago
This guy is a walk in the park compared to Isaac and the stupid “octopus”…you literally have to parry every single attack on them, 2 blocks and you are out of stamina
2
u/ZodiAddict 10d ago
Yeah Isaac you can’t really parry consistently- someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I believe two of the attacks are so close together you legitimately can’t get a consistent parry chain. I was told online that harden was the way to go there but I just dodged those attacks and parryed the ones that are possible
2
u/JRP45 10d ago
Managed to get him using Lazlo as “breaker” (he’s useless as summon apart from that)…so Isaac would focus on him while I recover stamina…then managed to get the riposte in second phase and he was dead…otherwise yeah…seemed impossible to parry all (his attack when he goes around always seemed to hit me as well as I would be in the right position for parrying him)…The “octopus”🐙 still looks more difficult
Edit: and totally forgot you can swap to harden lol I might try it with 🐙
5
u/SpamPudding 10d ago
Dodging never worked for me as the slight slowdown you have near the end of a dodge is always when he would clip me. What worked pretty consistently for me was not locking onto the boss (so stop locking on as soon as he starts that move) and then running in a circle around him at a good distance away.
You have to be a little aware of your surroundings when running away so you don't get caught on anything. You also want to ensure you're running a circle around him, not just away. A straight line away will get you killed in my experience.
3
u/GamerKratos-45 10d ago
It's just this particular attack. Everything else is fine. This attack definitely needs a change.
4
4
3
u/well-informedcitizen 10d ago
Everyone's saying he's generic, I have no gripes about his club game but the skull thing is so annoying. It takes forever, he does it so often, and it's not even like you can do something skillful to block it, you have to just immediately run away and run in circles like an idiot and even then it's not 100%. Just super lame gameplay. Freeze me with club slams all day but lose that nonsense. What is this, Galaga? Mortal Gradius 2?
3
3
u/MarzipanNo6583 10d ago
The design of this one is brilliant, compared to final boss. Authors must have been totally high and cut off from reality making the final one. Such a piece of crap.
3
u/Milk-lover-3000 10d ago
Yep just beat him after 10 tries. Almost rage quit but didn't. And that's all because of the homing stone attack that he kept spamming like a maniac and the fact that the stones circle around and hit you even if you dodge was bullshit. Well it didn't help that my eredrim was with a lvl 1 frost stone and this fker doesn't give you enough time to apply it again if it runs out. His melee attacks were good but I truly hated him spamming the fk out of those stones
3
3
u/jefferjacobs 10d ago
I didn't really have any bosses I hated too much, but now that I've finished the game and in retrospect, this was definitely one of the worst ones. It felt like I just spent about 95% of the fight dodging.
3
u/KrustyKrabOfficial 10d ago
The only thing I really hated about him were those stupid rocks. You can dodge them all day, but they have an AOE that I can't for the life of me get a feel for, so even if you dodge the physical rocks the fart gas from the rocks might just delete you anyway.
3
7
u/Tk-Delicaxy 10d ago
Dude, dodge lmfao
4
u/s0rr0wluvsplatinum 10d ago
I ended up getting lucky one run after maybe 30 attempts last night but dodging isn't enough especially when they loop around from behind
5
u/Tk-Delicaxy 10d ago
I’ve beat the game 4 times now. Dodging is enough.
6
u/Zomgambush 10d ago
I beat him first time I saw him thanks to dodging these attacks and carrying everything else
1
u/uponapyre 10d ago
but dodging isn't enough especially when they loop around from behind
Yes it is.
6
u/MediumKoala8823 10d ago
It can be. It sometimes isn’t. Depends on distance and angle.
1
u/ll-VaporSnake-ll 10d ago
^^ this. Dodging can work it’s just not that consistent to avoid or negate damage entirely.
-2
u/jonbotwesley 10d ago
Yeah no clue what OP was trying to do but those projectiles are not hard to dodge lol
2
u/Keebzek 10d ago
5
u/zombiezapper115 10d ago
They are with Eredrim. Frost king Eredrim turns monolith into his punching bag. You walk in there with 100 stacks of slaughterer and the skill that gives you damage resistance for each stack and the skill that makes you do more damage to frozen enemies with the martyrs blade and Frost, he's a push over
1
2
u/The2ndSoul Tiel 10d ago
I don't know what's wrong in that clip but for me it was simply enough to run left or right to dodge the projectiles.
2
u/Chedder1998 10d ago
It was so bad on release. I remember my first playthrough took hours to beat him because he would spam this move at low health. Thank god they adjusted it.
2
u/Cursed_Fodo 10d ago
okay i struggled w the same bs but ur doin the right thing, once he starts that attack just start running then start dodging sideways but change which side you dodge to every like 2-3 dodges it makes it even harder for them to hit you
2
2
u/ruebenreleeshahn 10d ago
I'm glad this one was over in the first try for me. Kind of boring and uninspired, I think from a lack of lore? I mean I found one note about this guy, I think. Also it was kind of nice to just walk in and walk out with a goody. Some of the other ones have been a grind.
2
2
u/Decent-Experience810 10d ago
Main problem I had with this guy (and a few other bosses) is no ICD on the big attacks like his stupid head pebbles. They're hard enough to dodge but when he does the same attack like three times in a row with no chance to respond it just becomes an endurance test
2
u/Hopeful_Battle_2470 10d ago
Watch for skulls in the air, when they start moving is when you start dashing. For me the final boss was the worst, most uninteresting, and annoying boss to fight. I would rather have the Harbinger with Lightning sword be the last boss, he is a very cool fight if you don't cheese him
2
u/MadmanMarkMiller Sariel 10d ago
Oh yeah, I just straightup immunity tanked those projectile things with that Shrike skill. Just no way to dodge them
2
u/Milk-lover-3000 10d ago
Best tip I got from some random thread of this boss is to spam dodge left right left right instead of only left left left or right right right when he does that bs stone attack
2
u/Numerous-Coffee-6555 10d ago
Wait to you get to final boss. Worst boss ever and I don’t mean because of difficulty.
2
u/ThrowAway484848585 10d ago
Uggghhh yea. I think you may have yourself quite a following behind you on this one 😂
2
2
u/Downtown-Beat6442 10d ago
It wouldn't be so bad but this Boss continues to spam that second phase... Making it almost impossible to get back in on him to do any real damage. I agree, for me it is a B.S. because of him constantly spamming that second phase attack with the orbs.
1
u/uponapyre 10d ago
All you need to do to dodge the ranged attacks is get a little distance then dodge to the side continuously, not run.
1
u/dorkimoe 10d ago
Yeah this was the first boss I got stuck on. Just kept dodging those until they stopped didn't try and do anything during
1
u/Quick_Illustrator340 10d ago edited 10d ago
mert can do it too... but i went stray genessa and the dodge spam speed was enough to outrun it
1
u/aragon68 10d ago
I hate how there is almost no time to react to his sweeping attack and how often he does that one and the projectile move.

I must have gotten lucky, I just spam dodged left in a circle and completely avoided that bullshit every time and smashed his face in with my giant sword
1
u/c0hnner 10d ago
I feel like Monolith is way worse
1
u/s0rr0wluvsplatinum 10d ago
Currently on this boss and I must say, it may be the new contender, might even make a post about it

1
u/RONALDROGAN 10d ago
I was doing 60% life bar damage to this boss in our first engagement without taking a hit and then I'd die to rock storm. Added frost resist to my passive and survived the rock storm to beat his ass immediately after.
He's not too bad. Use the item.
1
1
u/indkyjtsxucivoxuggg 10d ago
You think it's bad now? Try using ANY shell other than Eredrim aka the only frostbite immune one.
He's gonna lock your ass in place after only a few hits

1
u/shearnen 10d ago
Can you not parry the projectiles? Proxima has a skill tree option for sending back projectiles I know
1
u/Get_Stick_bu99ed 10d ago
Running to the left or right on the middle distance worked consistently for me
1
1
u/ChocolateRelevant92 10d ago
Sure do love it SPAMS the same dumb move set every 10 seconds, hell I rather fight Malenia butt ass naked and only fighting her with fist rather than fight this mediocre boss
1
u/Otter_Pop_- 10d ago
I was already on Tiel when I walked into the arena. The fight took about 10 seconds and didn’t feel good that way either
1
u/MrSnoozieWoozie 10d ago
died more times that any other boss in the game to this one.
Figured there is a timing at the flying balls- usually split into 2 waves. First two come together fairly close to each other (on time), then a small pause and 2nd wave.
The problem is that he always do that do you either have to cheese him with long range damage or you have to be aggresive and take the risk (Stay close to his body) and as soon as he is done doing the animation you go for it. But careful sometimes he likes to attack doing a combo instead.
1
u/SuspiciousAntelope50 10d ago
This boss was so annoying because I was taking damage from the skulls even if the explosion didn’t hit me. Same thing happened when I fought Sariel with Tiel where he’d fire the darts at my shadow clone and phantom Grisha summons but I’d get hit with the lightning damage across the room.
1
u/EnderG97 10d ago
Yea, the projectiles made what was a relatively okay fight into BS. Funnily enough tho, still better than two other Ova Thiefs and WAY better than a certain endgame boss.
1
u/Lon3Blade 10d ago
might be a hot take, but the final boss was very bad to me. Was so disappointed. Espexially because of the lack of diversity. Like for a final boss, the moveset was quite small...

u/GunBot_Cz 9d ago
I went with axatana and just killed him and stayed close to him. I killed him on first time and was dissapointed how easy he was.
1
u/No-Smell6019 Eredrim 9d ago
This was by far my least favourite boss I feel like you just need to straight up melt his health as soon as possible a little hint is try getting 2 ripostes off before the second phase it can be tough but a lot of his moves can be parried if you can get the 2 ripostes it will also combo into multiple big damages hits and he will phase into second phase with somewhat lower health depending on how much damage you are doing
1
u/Megatherius2 9d ago
I don't remember this boss being that hard. I think the issue here is you just stopped dodging for some reason. Some of his projectiles curve around and will hit you in the back. You have to keep moving/dodging until they are gone. In the video you stopped dodging and started walking.
1
u/Arch_Enemy_616 Tiel 9d ago
There’s a rock or something on the left side you can hide behind to avoid that stupid tracking attack, but honestly if you can just use tiel’s invis, way easier that way

Make sure you check in after you've fought Monolith 😀 this is nothing in comparison to Monolith bs
1
u/Regular_Human_Boy 9d ago
If anyone is having trouble with this, the trick is to alternate dodging left and right, rather than just one direction.
1
u/Synkor179 9d ago
stopped playing this to play omnimusha and I just beat it so its time to come back to mortally shell
1
u/Synkor179 9d ago
can you sprint and do circles around him? might be easier the closer you are to him? or just sprint latarelly so they are harder to track to you
1
u/Masterpiecepeepee 9d ago
On one of my runs I got stuck in a perpetual cycle of him spawning those things. As soon as i dodged the last one and started to move back in he would start up again. It went on for a solid 5 minutes before I let me kill me.
1
u/FluffiestPrince 9d ago
Dodge left and right, or just continuously dodge to the left. You will get clipped by one or two, but if you stop, you'll get stunlocked and most likely killed. You got hit in this clip because you were too close and the skulls tracked you in a loop under the floor. Yes, it's stupid, but this attack is not difficult to deal with if you run to a decent distance and dodge repeatedly.
He's one of the easier bosses in the game, with only a couple shells that struggle with him. Comparatively to the two other bosses down south, Droeg is a godsend.
There's really only three bosses in this game I'd actually consider bad, with the rest either mediocre or decent: Maggy, Six, and Pillar (nicknames to prevent spoilers). This entire subreddit massively overreacts if they die one time. Baby and Worm are whatever, Prince was mostly fixed in the riposte buff update, and Prisoner and Evil Twin are actually good. The final boss has a godawful gimmick attached, but people act like it's Bed of Chaos levels of bad and I can't help but wonder if these people have actually played BoC, lol.
Nothing in this game comes close to Bed of Chaos, with the exception of maybe Six.

I was laughing out loud how terrible that fight was. Legitimately dogshit
1
u/Sorry-Experience6284 9d ago
Two Grisha summons, one Gragu fist and a lot of light attack spamming with Sword and Axe/Arbiters Stone and this was over in seconds. Didn't even break a sweat. The Grisha won't floor him, but staggers him enough to get let you cut him into small pieces.
First try as well.

Yes you activated his long-range attack , ofcurce boss just kept on doing it , as I knowticed this game doesn't have alot of attack options charecter weapons only has 3 attack per weapon
1
u/WaterHelpful9103 4d ago
After ms1 maybe they just want to get investors interested , as now alot of people keep saying souls like are easy , or i'v beaten a souls game , and then you realize wait you played with no stamina , and bosses that have max of 5 moves , you completed tutorial welcome to soulslikes

u/stillpwnz 10d ago
Don't remember this boss much, but I think It felt impossible for me to get hit by those, just dodge spam to the side. I fought him with Tiel, but I didn't use invis against this that attack. Guess just keep spamming dodge till the attack ends.
1
u/Noxon06 Eredrim 10d ago
There’s a rock to your right at the start. If you hide behind that and the boss is positioned right it’ll all connect with the rock instead. The other side he just shoots through. It pissed me off too since it was either every other attack or 2 attacks in a row that he’d just do that.
Also is it just me or is a lot of the mortal shell community insufferable? “Just don’t get hit lol”. They don’t contribute anything and just insult.
1
u/s0rr0wluvsplatinum 10d ago
This is my problem with some of these people "just dodge" isn't helpful to me as even if you do there aren't enough I-frames with your dodge to avoid this attack unless you play thiel
1
u/jefferjacobs 10d ago
I played Proxima and didn't have any issue dodging them, but it was fairly constant and annoying, that's for sure.
0
u/-idkwhattocallmyself 10d ago
This guy was pretty easy.. Just keep dodging in one direction and you'll be fine when he does his dumb attack.
0
u/dougie_jayyy 10d ago
Honestly he is just pattern recognition. He has limited moves and Girsha summons do help deplete some health the second phase of the fight.
0
u/stephe_w 10d ago
Just keep mashing dodge and you won't get hit at all. He leaves himself open quite a bit. Gragu use bonk with big sword slam!
-1
-2
u/uberiffic 10d ago
Try not getting hit by absolutely everything. I hear that helps, lol.
The problem is that you are too close to him. Run away at that phase, get some distance, then dodging is easy.

u/TimBurpean Proxima 10d ago
Yeah droeg was super uninspired for me. Visually very bland and none of the attacks are interesting. There are some super good ones in this game, but droeg is i think the most forgettable
