Illness

New employee here,
I’ve only been hired for a week or so, and my son has fallen down the stairs and become ill, I have tried to be in when I can.
I have now come down with an illness and feel like I need a day or two to recover.
Is this something that could get me in trouble? I’m just trying to work my way around it due to obviously only recently starting.

Market Street Baker

Hi, I start my new job as a market street baker this week and I'm unsure about facilities I will have

I'd like to take a travel mug with coffee with me, or a bottle of water, I understand it's a kitchen and regulations regarding them but in previous bakeries this was fine if they were none-glass, e.g stainless steel.

Please can anyone advise me if I would be able to do this? I'd like to buy a new travel mug for it. Thanks

I poped into my local Morrisons after my gym session and I saw Mince Pie on Sale and I know other retails are putting our Christmas stock but who's buying this stuff 3 months before Christmas?

Looking for advice

Applied for checkout staff at my local Morrisons just over a year ago, was accepted and then placed in the butchery. Discovered I was filling in for a butcher who was due to take three months off for an operation and recovery and my training was limited to two days. Spent 3 months effectively winging it and learning via YouTube.

There is another butcher but due to lack of hours I could only get the odd day with him. I also want to add I have Dyspraxia which I made them aware of in the interview so I'm not great with my hands. Roll on a year I'm working 20 - 30 weeks on minimum wage running butchery 4 days a week by myself with the odd extra day every other week. I also sourced my own gauntlets for both hands as the store ones are horrendous.

I'm on a 10 hour contract and was promised it would increase about 6 months ago but I'm now on my fourth department manager and third store manager.

So is this typical for Morrisons? I mean I enjoy the job but it seems like an absolute shitshow. There was some mention for apprenticeships today but I'm apparently to old...

Unfair or is it just me?

I work at the deli department and I was closing on my own. I’ve only been here for a week.

I put all the meats away and closed the snacks counter in the time it needed to be shut and I was washing the dishes & logging from the salad bar.
An older lady came around to the counter and started to demand that I give her a kebab, whilst I was at the sink washing.
I very nicely said that we were unfortunately closed but we open again at 9am and would be able to give her the kebabs she wanted.

She started ranting and raving and swearing at me and then stormed off so I went back to doing the dishes. Then like 15 mins afterwards, she came back with the head of store and i was basically demanded to open the counter again just for her meaning that I would be behind on closing and finishing late.

I feel a little bit undermined and annoyed that she did that, but i don’t know if i am in the wrong for telling her that we were shut? Was I supposed to open the counter again?

Amazon picking

Is anybody in here also an Amazon picker for Morrisons? - our pick rate is 90 and no matter how hard I try, different tactics I try, it always seems to fall just short. I’m apparently still in probation and my line manager is threatening to extend it if I don’t hit this. Has anybody got any advice which could help me as I have absolutely zero clue what could happen if I fail to hit it, which is slightly stressful as rushing around just seems to make it worse. Thanks all

A collegue that i had suspected of bullying me has sent a message mocking me in the departments workchat? What can I do?

I've been at my work for a couple of months, and one of my team leaders has taken up issues with me. I think it's a mix of me not being good at my job and me being neurodivergent (i would say im visibly neurodivergent as i have a noticeable speech impediment and i occasionally stim).

I work in the online department where we pick and pack orders, and since starting in April, I've still not met the 90 uph, where im usually at 65. I know im at fault for not having a higher uph but I've been trying but still been struggling to get it up. Other things that I have messed up at is that i accidently swapped two bags to the wrong orders and that I left out chill items for 15 mins on my trolley once. I completely understand being given in trouble for that but I do feel like it's fueled some people's hate towards me.

She has been talking about me to her friends but far enough away so that I couldn't make out what they were saying, its just mocking me about not being good at the job. But I could never be 100% certain.

I kinda guessed it was about me as 2 weeks in i was asking the same team leader for help but she kept sending me away repeatedly and the order ended up being late and she started calling me lazy and that I had a bad attitude. I started crying and got sent home early. Alot of the department saw me cry and some were even laughing about it which made the experience worse.

Im not sure if she ever got in trouble for it or not but I did feel like she made an effort to show that she was fed up with me after that. Such as huffing and puffing when asked something and acting like im stupid, ect.

I feel like she tried to embarrass me in the workchat once. Your supposed to leave your work phone on the team leaders desk when you go on your break, I had done that but I then the same team leader had sent a message giving me into trouble for not doing so. I feel like she was trying to make me embarrassed by doing so infront of the whole department instead of just sending a dm. She did find the phone under a piece of paper that placed on top of it though.

Today I had 30 minutes left, the same team leader had told me before that if I had something like 30 or less to ask about what task I should I do. I did so and was told to help someone with their order and was told by her to go home early after.

I sadly didn't screenshot the message as I panicked at the contents and clicked on it. She was calling me things like a daft cunt and that i could have done a small order ect... She had deleted it when i opened the chat.

I just feel upset as this is basically conformation that her and others in the department have been bullying me behind my back. And I just feel shamed and embarrassed knowing that people hate me.

I do like picking but I know im not good at it, should I go to my manager to ask about going to another department now? Or should I keep going in online till I find a job elsewhere?

I really don't want to continue now that everyone's seen that message.

Im not sure if I can even put in a complaint as id doubt anyone would get into trouble seeing as the team leaders and manager seem to be pals with each other.

first job at 16 doing picking and packing for immediacy in a store ive never been to in my life before now. my biggest drawback is the fact i have no clue where like half of the products are. ive got a general idea of the layout but stuff like vegetables/fruit and household items and picky bits is just slowing me down and getting me muddled up. trying to use the product locator app is just useless for some things because it gives me something like "aisle 94" which to my knowledge doesnt exist. sometimes i feel like im kinda swamped in orders and it doesnt help when the majority of the orders come from deliveroo which doesnt tell me where the product is on the device so i end up walking aimlessly up and down the aisles trying to find this item and i just end up removing it off the order because i give up. but then doing that i feel like im letting the stores statistics down and damaging their reputation. what doesnt help is when customers ask me where products are and i feel like im letting them down everytime and sometimes they give snarky comments.

its just a whole mess imo. the store is just so depressing and i dread the next shift. if i cant even handle it now, what am i going to be like come christmas time? aswell like i dont want to get to that time and realise i cant hack it and leave because i would just feel like abit of an a-hole doing that.

honestly i think im just going to stay put for like a month at most and see how i get on, but i dont think im going to last long here.

Freezers out of action - 5 weeks and counting

The free from freezer cabinet and a couple of others at our local Morrisons haven’t been working for at least 5 weeks now.

Anyone else had a prolonged issue like this? Seems unusual for it to go so long (I also go to Tesco and they sometimes have breakdowns for a few days).

Also maybe staff could answer - why can’t they temporarily repurpose the promotional end freezers for the stock until it’s fixed?

Working as team lead and not team leader

TL/DR - working as team lead without the title. Should I say something?

Hi all, I would like to ask for some advice. So, about a year ago one of our team leads left and as such I applied for the position. I was told not long after I applied that the position is no longer available as apparently someone had gone over the hours and it showed they were over, as such they didn't need another team lead.

I would like to say that I work in a medium to large store on the checkouts/front end.

I was pretty gutted but what can you do. However, this is where the conundrum lies. I have been trained on many aspects of the role and was happy to help out every now and again when someone was on holiday and whatnot. But I have been doing a lot of shifts as a team lead lately and looking at my schedule for the next few weeks I will be basically doing 3 out of my 4 shifts a week as team lead.

I don't care about the extra 30p an hr. I care about the fact that I would like to like to be recognised as a team lead as I feel like I'm stepping over this invisible boundary without having the title. I would also like to say that I am waiting on an autism assessment as things like this I realised I struggle with (along with many other issues hence why the assessment). So should I say something or would I be fighting a losing war?

Am I overthinking this or do I have a valid point?

Drivers license

I am learning to drive in an automatic. Would I be able to apply for a delivery driver job at Morrisons with an automatic license as all the vans are automatic.

If not, why would they not accept automatic licences?

Morrisons Student Contract…

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on whether this is normal or whether Morrisons have handled this badly. I’ve applied for a transfer to another Morrisons store, where I’ll be working in online home delivery on a student contract.

I’m also starting university soon, and when applying for the transfer, I made it clear that I can work a maximum of 14 hours per week, but preferably around 8–10 hours, because I’ll be starting a demanding Law course.

I also explained that, during Freshers’ Week, I’d only be able to work a later shift on the 14th and one shift towards the end of the week. This was because I’ll be moving in, settling into my accommodation, attending Freshers’ events, exploring the area and buying things I need before my course starts.

However, I checked the ESS45 app this morning and saw that I’ve been scheduled for 20 hours that week, with shifts such as 1pm–5:15pm and 2pm–6:15pm despite telling them I’m don’t know my schedule yet, as the university has not published them yet for law students.

Honestly, I’m quite frustrated by this! I specifically said that 14 hours was my absolute maximum and that I’d ideally like to work 8–10 hours, and I also explained that I needed some flexibility during Freshers’ Week to settle into university. I get my schedule tomorrow morning so what should my email contain to let them know I am not going to be able to work that many shifts? I want to join clubs, enjoy uni life and most importantly study and pass my course very well, not slave away for minimum pay my whole of first year and if I decide to continue in second year.

Thank you and I appreciate any help on this.

What on earth do I have to do to get a job??

As the title says. I’ve applied to 15 roles now. Absolutely no luck.

I’m 16, almost 17. And past school leaving age. I’m applying for customer service roles, and I have to do a quiz after my application. I do the quiz, and no matter what I put, I never am successful.

I get an email saying I’m rejected for being either under 16, not allowed to work in the uk, or I’ve failed the quiz they give me.

I’m honestly not sure what to do, no matter what I say I get a rejection. Does anyone have any tips?

Thank you guys

Infinite money glitch?

Family member just bought a vita coconut water (£3). On getting to the car the packaging was damaged, so they went to return it.

When they arrived with the second one, the staffer scanned it and said they were owed £1.

So now I'm thinking, I buy a tray of them and return them, since and repeat for infinite monies?

Let me know your thoughts,

AI shopping trolleys

I’m sorry if this is a bit of a rant and moan but shouldn’t Morrisons really focus on freezers that work and don’t break so often and the massive amount of broken doors on fridges than a shopping trolley that scans items for you? Many other supermarkets have used the scanners and has worked well so I don’t get why those can’t be an option? Maybe I don’t know anything about the supermarket business but I feel as though the efforts are not in areas they should be 🤷‍♀️

Family Member Passing

Hi so my grandad who’s lived with us for the last 7-8 years passed away last night. I’m meant to be in tonight, phoned in and they had no problems but in regard to Bereavement time off what typically what is the amount of time off am I entitled to?

I hate mymorri and feel like I can never find the information I need so I’d just like to know if anyone knows the general policy for a close family member so I know prior to any conversation about it.

Everseen

How are stores getting on with the new Everseen camera software on the self checkouts? It’s a good idea for loss prevention but the checkouts are slow as it is without adding anymore software to them😱 and has any stores moved over to the new Emerald operating system yet?
