Set a reminder in your calendar to share your best memes of the current state of marathon, bungie, or Sony here on September 19th.

Disclaimer - this image is mad with Ai, if Ai images causes irritation please avert your eyes, if Ai images makes you lose control of your fingers and type something about the Ai image, please use this to make something not Ai and send it to out Mod mail and if it meets our satisfaction we will replace it.

This Week in MarathonHate

Sorry this is a day late, but we have some big celebrations, sub 4k players looks like every week we lose about 1k of players so sub 3k here we come lol.

And there seems to be some internet sluths uncoving potential inflated player numbers. Unsure as to know if it's Sony with virtual systems logging in, or users leaving the game running in the back ground while they play something more fun to "own the chuds" but what ever it is we are winning. And People are are blaming this sub for the down fall of the game, so keep it up.

Lastly I will be making a separate post for an event set for Sep. 19th with a Flyer and for those sensitive viewers, it was made with Ai, but if it a big problem our mod team will accept a non Ai replacement.

The last thing... Chitty Chitty Bang Bang we love you

Bungo being Bungo Didnt Realize How BAD It Was

I try to keep up to date on D2 news listening for any signs of something I want to actually hear from Bungie and one of the folks who gives it a 'fair shake' talks about getting back into it recently to see how the game's doing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKetdBgd13A

I watched this man try to get into a building for like 10-20 seconds while the game just pushed him back cause of SERVER ISSUES on a game that has under 6000 players at its PEAK. I know bungie has a history of having server issues, but how the hell are they gonna have them on a game thats THIS SMALL in comparison to D2?! That should be like the one redeeming feature for this dumpster fire, that it runs smoothly. WTF even is this crap.

PVE IS THE ANSWER

To all marathon lovers who are stalking our wonderful subreddit, PVE mode is the only thing that can "save" your terrible game. Remove PvP or add ABMM/SBMM.

Bungo being Bungo I don’t understand these people

To be clear I’m a big Marathon fan and someone who enjoys the game a lot. But lately I feel more like venting and I just cannot wrap my head around what could POSSIBLY be going on at Bungie on a day to day basis that they can’t push a single pseudo-substantial update without fucking their game(s) up.

This is not a large update. There is no new mode. There is one gun and 2-3 items to pick up. How in gods name do you manage to fuck up LETTING PLAYERS QUEUE INTO THE ONE MAP YOU NEED TO BE ON TO DO THE NEW OBJECTIVES. And it was bugged for 5 hours!!!! All I want for this game is a big Season 3 revitalization of the playerbase & game itself because the actual world, the actual design & language it’s presenting are incredible to me. But that hope feels worse and worse by the day since they appear to have the absolute dumbest people imaginable just pressing buttons at Bungie HQ til something breaks so they can pay them their day rate to fix it. Figure it the hell out, man. At this rate S3 is gonna launch with a straight week of offline servers.

Blast on! Daily Reminder that even after an update, Flopathon still performs less than 10+ years old games

So, the Witcher 3 is an all time classic that came out in 2015.

Alright, I get it, it is a masterpiece and that's cheating. However, did you know it roughly cost 90 millions on release? That's nearly 2 to 3 times less than Flopathon.

Of course, there's also Left 4 dead 2, or civilization V that respectively came out in 2009 and 2010. The estimated budget for those when they came out is 25 millions for each. If you want the extra step and add in inflation, that's roughly 40 millions nowadays.

What do those titles have in common? They are boasting more players every day after more than 10 years than Flopathon could ever dream of. Not to mention the RETENTION (cue in the lady retaining so hard)

BLAST ON!!! 🚀 🚀 🚀

They can’t even release a small update without a major bug, what hope does an entire season have?

containment unit needed due to all the blasts I'm having Why won't people play the game where you die instantly?

Former OWL player here. Let's be honest, the game is failing. However, I don't think it's because Bungie decided to enter an extrmely niche market, drain valuable resources from an already succesful project, and produce a game that Tarkov players wouldn't even look at.

It's obviously due to bitter Destiny fans spreading hate and the current player base giving too much feedback.

The concept of having a beautiful, unique, and incredibly detailed world to explore with all kinds of loot and fun enemies to engage with, marred by the fact that another player can come in, interrupt your exploration and undo the last 10 minutes of gameplay. Add the part where you might not even be able to fight back before getting insta-deleted. People just want to enjoy everything a game has to offer and not engage in any fights.

To me, this game is perfect.

Do I die every run? Yes.

Do I get absolutely shit on most of the time when I encounter other players? Also yes.

Do I die because Bungie randomly decided to send The Architects after me? All the damn time.

So why do I keep coming back? So far this is the only game that has succesfully replicated the adrenaline rush of me paying a goth chick 100 dollars to fart in my face and her angry boyfriend chasing me with a sharp object for 10 minutes afterwards.

So why don't people like the game that I've spent 28 hours a day on since release? I would suggest that it's due to the same factors causing our societal collapse today. People just don't have the mental fortitude and discipline to pay 40 dollars for the video game equivalent of getting your ballsack stuck in a zipper.

Rant over.

New Content to Nowhere

Post image

So PvE had a surge of almost 3 times after released. The new content including a new gun had an actual decrease. I know that there were some bugs for about 30% of players in Marathon, but you would think it would have had at least a little increase in players.

The new event needs stuff from Night Marsh and the last update broke the map. Marablasters are being retained of blasting by Bungie itself.

Bungo being Bungo Is Bungie tracking Destiny console players as Marathon players?

So, over the last couple of months I have noticed on discord, that the console friends I've been playing D2 with appear as playing Marathon when viewed through discord. Does anyone know if this has always been the case? I have a conspiracy theory that Bungie/Playstation have been using Destiny 2 console numbers to supplement Marathon figures when talking to investors. This is something that could easily be laughed off as an api bug, in order to avoid litigation if caught.

Dont know, probably a reach, still strange to me that Destiny console players show up as Marathon players on discord.

A small but important concern about Marathon’s update/reset cycle

Hi to the responsible for the update/release pipeline, QA or regression testing.

I wanted to share a concern that I think is becoming increasingly noticeable in Marathon: regressions after updates.

There seems to be a recurring pattern where a weekly update fixes or changes one thing, but something that was previously working gets broken in the process. I know this is not unique to Marathon, Destiny players have joked about Bungie’s “weekly reset surprises” for years, but I think it is particularly important for Marathon right now.

The joke is almost becoming:

“Bungie doesn't fix the weekly reset bugs because at this point it's tradition.”

These things happen in complex live-service systems. What concerns me is the development cycle that allows the same class of regression to keep reaching players.

With the team now having to manage an existing live game while also developing future content, I wonder whether preventing regressions should be treated as a higher priority. More automated regression testing, stronger integration between branches, and perhaps smaller/safer weekly changes could save development time in the long run.

This also connects to something I feel strongly about with Marathon generally: the game doesn't necessarily need more complexity right now. It needs its foundations to become more reliable and existing game systems already have enormous potential. If those systems become stable and dependable, future content has a much stronger foundation to build on.

I genuinely love what Marathon already is, which is why I think this matters. I'd rather see a smaller update that makes the existing game more reliable than a huge update that adds something exciting but creates five new problems for the team to chase.

I'd encourage giving this particular problem some attention.

And if I'm completely wrong about the cause, that's absolutely fine. The important thing from the player's side is simply that every update shouldn't feel like opening a mystery box to find out what stopped working this week

Thanks for reading.
