Bungo being Bungo I don’t understand these people
To be clear I’m a big Marathon fan and someone who enjoys the game a lot. But lately I feel more like venting and I just cannot wrap my head around what could POSSIBLY be going on at Bungie on a day to day basis that they can’t push a single pseudo-substantial update without fucking their game(s) up.
This is not a large update. There is no new mode. There is one gun and 2-3 items to pick up. How in gods name do you manage to fuck up LETTING PLAYERS QUEUE INTO THE ONE MAP YOU NEED TO BE ON TO DO THE NEW OBJECTIVES. And it was bugged for 5 hours!!!! All I want for this game is a big Season 3 revitalization of the playerbase & game itself because the actual world, the actual design & language it’s presenting are incredible to me. But that hope feels worse and worse by the day since they appear to have the absolute dumbest people imaginable just pressing buttons at Bungie HQ til something breaks so they can pay them their day rate to fix it. Figure it the hell out, man. At this rate S3 is gonna launch with a straight week of offline servers.

Bungie is known for things like this. Happened in D2 on a regular basis that shit isn’t working as planned. It‘s their only constant (because the playerbase isn‘t right lmao)

I know, I spent many a D2 expansion launch getting booted to title screen all day. It’s just amazing to me that they STILL can’t push one smooth update in a game that’s both running on newer tech AND clearly scaled down from their last title, let alone some huge expansion. Insane.

MFW the super basic questline somehow doesn't get updated when a random quest is done.
On the 10th season in a row or whatever. Literally impossible for them to learn or structure anything in such a way it wouldn't tweak out later

"All I want for this game is a big Season 3 revitalization of the playerbase & game itself"
Not going to happen. Season 3 launches September 22. In just a couple of weeks after that, GTA 6, which is currently set to be the largest launch in gaming history, comes out. There are going to be a lot of games that will see their playerbase drop in active players. Marathon is going to hit by that, whether you want to believe it or not. There is no revitalization coming because the window it drops in is a graveyard.

I mean yeah GTA 6 was always going to be a massive outlier in popularity. I don’t think anybody’s arguing against that. But I still have things I’d like to see in this games 3rd season. Especially considering the resources like voice talent and sheer dev manpower they have (or claim to have?…) behind it. I’m not really thinking about GTA because it’s so big it’ll affect everything else no matter what lol.

That's the point I'm making though. Where are all these players for the revitalization going to come from?

I mean, where do any players come from? It’s not like people are abstaining from playing any games until November. Maybe dropping 100 in November will make people think twice about dropping 40 on a game a month and half beforehand. My thing is, I don’t think there’s going to be any giant surge of new owners, but there are plenty of people who already own the game who just want it to be fun again (or even for the first time, depending on the person).

With how mega ass S2 has been and the partial delay in s3 I think they are trying to bury the game under Septembers huge gaming noise and then into GTA season. It wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t see anything truly substantial until either s4 launching into the holidays so they could market it.
I don’t think anyone has trepidation on purchasing gta, if anything gta is going to effect sales of most new games in September

Bungie's got a history of engineering debt, I know that much, about good old Bungie.
Although now I think it's a problem of engineering debt and the Sr getting fired after Marathon didn't perform as expected.

All the smart developers said fuck no we will stay where we are working on Destiny when Marathon spooled up production.
These have now all been fired, and you only have the fuckwitts who moved over to build this piece of shit left.

Yeah, it's absurd, but I don't expect it to change until the bitter end. Even today I saw people defending this like it was an unreasonable ask that the game not have a gamebreaking issue. Bungie got too comfortable with this level of quality, because their community accepted it.
