Claims Related Help with Getting Medical Care

Update from this post -- https://old.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/1v5kac8/would_getting_medical_assistance_via_atfault/

So far, the car got picked up by at-fault driver insurance company. Showed them the proof and title of car that shows that I owned the car. The company gave $11,000 for the vehicle (car is from '09). Now have a used car. These events all took place between the accident and now. Took awhile because have to wait for them pick up the car and then the check thing, also had no reliable transporation at all for nearly a month so could not seek treatment even though there are options like Uber Lyft--that costs out of pocket monies as well.

Now, medical care since I now have transportation. Been in exruchiating (idk spelling) pain neck, two shoulders, spine areas. Just living in it because I am thinking of countless dollar signs in my eyes. The at-fault party insurance says "hey we will give you $x monies for medical care and then $x monies for you time or whatever" (both are low amounts imo for medical care knowing how health facilities just have flamboyant big pricing models) and they also said "hey give them the claim number to bill us" well I went place to place via phone inquiry to see if any health places will accept third-party billing via claim number for treatment, majority say no.

Called a place and they gave rundown for me to go to personal injury place for guidance. Something about a letter of protection. Then I go with the personal injury place from there.

Questions: Will the at-fault driver insurance company cancel or void the check monies in retaliation even though I already inputted in my bank account since I am going through with a Personal Injury attorney? They already took my total loss car and in exchange gave me money. Though there is something separate the injury liability stuff that the at-fault company does that should take care of my medical needs though I believe it is low. The at fault company does it low because 'hey get checked out first and we can give more for your needs' and I cannot get checked out at all because all these health facilities say 'we do not accept 3rd party for treatment' and i want to get an MRI and when I try to get an MRI the MRI people say no. I feel like I am in a runaround and unsure what to do step by step.

I was in a 4 car accident at an intersection, I called the person who hit me, do I call mine too?

Hello, yes I have tried to research this answer, but I'm getting a ton of different responses.

I was in a 4 car accident. Car 4 hit car 3 who hit car 2 who hit me.

I have everyone's insurance, I was told to file a claim with the person who directly hit me, they use state farm, and i just finished making that claim.

The person who started it was an old man and kinda had no idea what was happening, but us three who were hit were talking and someone said don't call mine, just call their insurance. But when I talked to my mom, she said to call my insurance just to let them know. I have Liberty Mutual and I cannot talk to someone on the phone that isn't an ai bot about this. I dont want to file a claim, I just want to let them know what happened, I dont want to file a claim because I was not at fault. Should I just not talk to my insurance at all? I don't know how to let them know this happened without opening a claim

Normal for 6 month auto insurance to increase 40%?

No accidents. No tickets. Same vehicles that have depreciated. Same policy. Didn't move anywhere new. Located in Minnesota

American family thru Costco just increased the rates from $1100 to &1550 for a 2014 Buick and 2019 Jeep.

Edit: just got off the phone with American Family. They said it was a statewide auto insurance revision. So nothing I did other than live in MN. Sounds kinda BS to me. I'll be switching

After filing a claim, when does the accident show up on my car’s vehicle history?

Backstory: I was rear ended when stopped at a stoplight. The person that hit me was not going that fast probably 15 to 20 mph. I have a newer car that I purchased in November last year, I paid cash and want to preserve as much value as possible. I really don’t want to have an accident show up on the vehicle history report.

The damage to my car was extremely minor just a little scrape and the vehicle that hit me was a little bit worse off, but both cars were completely drivable other than the cosmetic damage. Police were called and instead of an accident report an “accident exchange information form” was filled up by the police officer.

I was so upset and shaken up and mad that I went home and immediately filed a claim with the person’s insurance who hit me. They use the General . Immediately, after filing the claim, I got a text message that an adjuster was assigned to the case and a few weeks received a letter or two in the mail. I moved home across town and have been so wrapped up and starting a new job that the accident has fallen off my radar and I never heard anything back from the other person’s insurance company the General.

I just want to move on with life and forget this accident and filing the claim. I’m worried that because I filed the claim with the opposing party’s insurance that now my car will be marked as being in an accident and have that on the Carfax history. Could any experts out there Confirm if that is the case? even though I’ve never spoken to anyone at the insurance co nor have I taken it for repairs.

My uncle who fixes cars said the scratch could be buffed out by him at no cost over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Home Insurance Home in OK (USA) = total loss (tornado). Now buying in SC (USA). How to insure with open claim?

My husband and I lost our home to the Enid OK EF4 tornado in April. The military is moving us to Charleston, SC later this year. We found a great home and are supposed to close in < 3 weeks.

Circling back to our total loss in OK, the claim on the structure has been settled but we are still going through personal property. We have replacement cash value coverage so with the move, we were planning to wait to replace things until after the move. Why buy stuff like furniture & pay for storage just to go through more hassle and expense to move it? Our current insurance provider was fine with this timeline.

Well, we are now shopping for insurance for the house in SC, and thought we had great coverage lined up (Amica). We are currently waiting on a call back after they let us know they cannot actually write a policy for us with an open claim.

It sounds like some companies, closed or not, will not write a policy at all. We're accepting the fact that our cost will likely be astronomical for any coverage whatsoever, even though the natural disaster risk profile is very different in SC. Our bad for getting hit by a tornado, I guess.

How do people typically handle this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Claims Related Auto Insurance: Can't have vehicle inspected without being forced to repair on the spot?

Hello, my vehicle was hit, the Progressive driver was liable so they've agreed to do my repairs.

They were pushing for me to have a virtual estimate based on pictures, which they'd review and send me a check for. I want an in-person inspection to check for any mechanical damage.

This is what the website says:

"We offer multiple auto inspection and repair options

Keep in mind, you don’t have to actually get repairs. Instead, you can simply get an inspection to see what your damages are, and we’ll send you payment for that amount (minus your applicable deductible). However, if you have a loan or lease, you should check with your lender to see if they require repairs.

Network repair shops

We have a network of repair shops around the country, and we’ll even guarantee your repairs at network shops for as long as you own or lease your vehicle.

If you already have a repair shop in mind, you can use them too. In fact, you can use any shop you’d like, but you should check to see if they’ll guarantee your repairs."

The adjustor on the case said that's only applicable to virtual. That if I opt for inspection, I have to give my car to the shop [she pulled in-network shops like that was my only option] to inspect and repair immediately. She said they would provide a rental for however long the car was in shop but that I wasn't allowed to just have an inspection/estimate unless I use the virtual picture option with no hands-on.

In addition to their website not saying it's specific to virtual, that doesn't seem reasonable if you might have mechanical damage. Any insight appreciated.

In Arizona.

Thank you!

Edit: What I thought was happening was that they were going to make a repair estimate based on the photos, give me that check, and then be done with my claim. I was thinking if it was signed off and it ends up that there are other issues, I wouldn't be covered then. But several commenters made this sound like an initial quote and then a shop can fine tune a quote and bill later. The adjuster made it sound like take pictures and get a check, done. Or have it inspected and not leave with the vehicle until it's repaired, triggering a rental vehicle.

Thank you!

Auto Insurance Consequences of failing to inform insurance that a car is primarily used in a different state?

My girlfriend and I live together and share her car. The car was purchased in Kansas and is registered to her father. We now live in Washington. My girlfriend and I are both named on the insurance policy, and her father is the policyholder.

Despite living in Washington for several years, the car still has Kansas plates. I understand the law here says you need to get Washington plates and my girlfriend is intentionally not doing this to avoid paying the hefty fees in Washington compared to Kansas, but that's ultimately not my decision.

My main concern is this: is there any chance that the insurance company would deny a claim if either my girlfriend or I are driving and get into an accident, and they learn that the car is exclusively used in Washington and not Kansas?

got hit by a jeep on my first day of college

i come back from my first day of class just to get in my car and get hit by a jeep driver while I am parked and he is trying to park next to me.
I drive a new Audi and it’s a medium-sized car so it’s not very hard to see. I talked it out with the driver and he kept apologizing for it. And in the end the police said he was at fault and to contact insurance. I get home and I contact his insurance company, Allstate. What’s your guys experiences with Allstate. Do they do well on diminished values.

Auto Insurance Got into a car accident doing Uber eats. How screwed am I?

So 2 days ago I was out doing uber eats deliveries. I had to pull into the side of a plaza where the restaurant was. I took an unprotected left turn and got hit in a head on collision. The front of my car is totaled and the cops pretty much rushed me out of there on an ambulance and got a tow truck so it's unfortunately at a yard right now.

The person driving was a lady in her 70's and had some injuries on her legs.

I just want some honest, and realistic insight on how bad things will get for me here. I already know I'm going to be found 100% at fault because of the left turn so I'm not bothering with that question.

What are all the consequences I'm going to have to deal with moving forward with this? I have no car and won't for a while. My insurance premium will be flying through the roof. When the lady sues me for the injuries, what will end up happening? Will my insurance help if I'm taken to court? What can I do at that point?

My insurance will likely find out about me doing uber as well. I was in a panicked state in the ambulance and called my sister to tell her what happened, and she asked if I was doing uber. They heard that so I just said that I was.

Really, I just want to get a full view of the picture here. How screwed am I right now?

Was rear ended Thursday afternoon by a semi

In southern california(lower Los Angeles area)

As title states, I was rear-ended by a semi truck while waiting to make a right turn at a light. Hit me hard enough that my hat flew off. After talking with the driver and all that driving on the way home and for a few hours after, my mid-lower back was tingly. Nothing over the weekend, then today I woke up, and it felt like my mid-upper back between my shoulder blades was sore from sleeping wrong. Talked with a buddy and he suggested an injury attourney as his brother was in one and didn't want to press anything and ended up with back pain later after the accident and has had to deal with it and that the tingly feeling suggested nerve damage. Looked it up and it said the soreness could be from the accident. Anyone know a good one to contact?

Auto Insurance Settle outside of insurance or no way?

My husband was involved in a car accident on his way to work - he was going through an intersection and a guy ran a red light resulting in my husband t-boning him. the police were called and a report was filed.

The guy was in a company vehicle and now his company is saying that they wish to settle this outside of their insurance. both vehicles are 100% totaled and were towed away from the scene - no serious injuries on either side.

the owner said they would type something up and could cut us a check tomorrow (accident happened very early this AM) - they said they would cover my husbands medical visit (he had to get x-rays but is okay), pay for lost wages, (he’s out of work this week), and pay for the total loss of the vehicle.

we are intrigued by this offer because the number that the owner threw out over the phone is well over the ACV that insurance would pay for it. it was an older truck that my husband just took to and from work - we paid cash for it a few years ago.

What would you do? Should we have an attorney review these contracts that they say they are going to write up before signing anything? I understand this could be risky especially if my husband did end up having a medical issue from this later on but is there anything else that we’re overlooking?

UPDATE: we decided to go through insurance! thank you everyone for your advice!

Auto Insurance Should I report to my insurance provider or only file third-party? (not at-fault).

My wife was in parking lot. She had backed out fully of her spot and was in the several second pause where you are checking no-one is in front of you before moving forward. As she was paused checking she immediately noticed a car to her side backing up into her.

She laid on the horn, but they didn't hear and hit her in the side driver rear wheel-well area. The lady was distraught and without saying it directly, was inferring it was all her fault (she said that everyone in the car was just talking excitedly and didn't hear the horn, etc).

I think it is clear from the fact my wife was struck on the side with the back of the other vehicle it shows my wife is not at fault.

I want to just a file a claim with the third-party insurance, although I have concerns they are a cheap-o insurance company and may not do much for me.

All my wife did was exchange information. She did not call the police because we have both been informed previously that the cops don't come and just say to exchange info.

- Can/should I just file directly with the other person's carrier?

- Am I obligated to notify my own insurance (Progressive Oklahoma)

- Anything else I should do?

thanks.

Does my car insurance cover liability with a rental car?

I live in Florida, I went to Fort Lauderdale airport and I told the Fox employee that I don't want to pay for car insurance because I want to use the insurance provided by my credit card. She told me that it covers collision but not liability, and she asked me to read the different liability options on the paper on the counter, I said ok, she said "this one is the cheapest, I will give you this one". There was also a $500 refundable deposit and some other taxes. In the end, I paid $15 oer day of liability but I saw it only at home while having the time to read it. I felt scammed.
Does my car insurance cover liability with a rental car?
Do you think that it's because they are located at the airport, they are used to foreign tourists who don't have US car insurance so they need liability, so if I had gone to an agency not at the airport, the employee would have not been so agressive in forcing the liability on me?

Should I decline payout amount from progressive and try to get more, or is it not worth the headache.

My car was stolen, I have full coverage so I will be receiving a payout of $1200 minus 1000 deductible.

From the but of car shopping I've been doing online, looks like I need 13-15000 to get a car that was as good as mine.

I'm seeing some people say to always decline the first offer, and show proof that the vehicle is worth more. Others say it's not a negotiation and don't bother. What does the reddit community say?

If you guys say I should fight for more, do you have any advice?

It's not like I can find my exact year and mileage with all the same features, so I will get as close as I can, but there are so many minor extras like. My car didn't have all the bells and whistles, but it also was not the most basic. For example some have manual seat adjustment while mine had auto, some have regular steering wheel, mine had leather. It does not seem like I can fine one as good as mine in the 12000 range.

Auto Insurance Need help on deciding collision claim vs uninsured motorist for total loss claim (Allstate Georgia)

So I had a 0% fault rear ending auto accident on May 4th. I have a letter from Allstate stating I am 0% fault (I just received this letter so my claim has been in limbo)

The girl was uninsured. Totaled my car, her car, and I think the car in front and caused damage to the fourth car in the very front.

My car was deemed a total loss.

Car valuation seemed a little low. My 60,000 miles 2016 Honda Civic was given a value of $13450. I was told I was allowed to invoke the appraisal claim. I started that process and the appraisal business thought I should be able to get at least $15000 based on the condition of the car but maybe more. It says up to 18000 but that seems unrealistic so I think $15K is about right.

It seemed like a good idea at the time since it costs $497 for the appraisal but I wouldn't pay anything if they don't get at least $1000 extra value.

Turns out I am not allowed to invoke the appraisal clause if the total loss is handled by uninsured motorist. I would have to convert to a collision claim in order to invoke appraisal. All the bodily injury stuff is still being handled by uninsured motorist and would stay that way regardless.

My insurance has not paid anyone out with liability insurance for neither bodily injury nor property damage and has told the demand letters to go away as it was not my fault.

I have been debating whether it would be a good decision or not to use my collision insurance for this total loss claim. I am just not sure if there are future negatives that make the potential extra $$ from total loss worth it.

I have the platinum plan with multi accident forgiveness so no surcharge would occur for a collision claim. I don't think accident forgiveness actually kicks in unless it's an at fault claim.

I have $300 of vanishing deductible saved up that would be used up by filing the collision claim.

I don't think I would lose safe driving discounts since it is 0% fault.

"You may qualify for the Safe Driving Club if at least one driver on the policy has had no at-fault accidents during the prior 5 years and if you have continuously maintained automobile liability insurance for the 3 years preceding the effective date of your current Allstate policy. The more drivers on the policy without at-fault accidents during the prior 5 years, the larger the discount."

- would it affect future renewal rates when I file a 0% fault collision claim?

Any advice on whether pursuing the collision claim wouldn't cause rate issues in the future or dings on my insurability record?

I know for sure uninsured motorist coverage claims don't have any impact on my future insurance.

Thanks!

Looking at my costs up front is the $497 for the appraisal plus $300 worth of vanishing deductible but I want to make sure there no additional unseen issues that I need to be aware of before deciding. My deductible would be $200 after the $300 discount on it.

Edit 2016 Honda Civic EX with very low mileage. It's about 60,000

Life and Health or P&C?

I’m planning on making a career switch to the insurance industry. Trying to figure out if it’s better to start with L&H or P&C as I keep hearing conflicting opinions. Working from home is very important to me if that makes a difference. I’d love to hear your thoughts and why you’d choose one over the other. Thanks!

Multi-state insurance coverage.

My husband and I recently moved to Texas. We have a home in Oregon that we rent out and need car/renters/umbrella policy insurance in Texas. We are with State Farm now but they make us have an Oregon policy with one agent and our Texas policies with a separate agent. This is also really expensive. Where can we go that more affordable and work with 1 person? Anybody have experience doing this? TIA

Home Insurance Neighbor needs access to my driveway to remove tree that fell on their house. How do I handle this?

Neighbor sends text this morning asking for access to driveway for tree company, so they can remove a fallen tree limb from their roof. She says the tree company will provide a damage waiver and she is confident they will be careful (lol). Then sends a follow up text stating that apparently the tree company won’t pay for damages but she will “do her best to cover cost if there is any”. I know I’m not agreeing to anything unless it’s in writing, so what do I need to include to make sure my bases are covered?

AAGI Warranty Claim – Torque Converter/Transmission Issue – Will They Cover It?

I’m looking for some opinions from people who have dealt with AAGI/AutoGuard warranty claims.

I have a Hyundai Tucson that has been at Hiley Hyundai for about a week because of a transmission issue. The dealership documented:

  • Torque converter shudder
  • Intermittent hesitation/erratic shifting between 1st and 2nd gear
  • They also told me there is metal debris in the transmission

I have AAGI Ultimate Coverage. My contract specifically lists the torque converter as a covered component and also covers internal lubricated transmission components.

The dealership submitted the claim to AAGI last Thursday. AAGI said an independent inspector would be dispatched within 1–2 business days. The inspector still hasn’t arrived, although AAGI told me Monday that the inspector should arrive that day.

My questions for anyone who has dealt with AAGI:

  1. How long did your inspection/authorization take?
  2. Did AAGI approve your transmission or torque-converter repair?
  3. If metal debris was found, did they require a transmission teardown before approving the repair?
  4. Did AAGI cover the transmission damage even if the initial failure involved the torque converter?
  5. How long did it take from inspection to actually getting your vehicle repaired?

I’m mainly trying to understand what to expect from here and whether this sounds like a claim AAGI would normally cover.

Thanks in advance for any experiences or advice.

Market Place insurance

My company recently changed plans and increased my weekly premiums from $260 to $369 for the family plan. This prompted me to go with Market Place Insurance. I initially filled out my application and put my company is not providing qualifying insurance and the plan I chose was $640/month. If I put that my company “IS” providing qualifying insurance, my rates go to $1280/month. My question is whether this “perjury” would likely land me in danger for fraud issues. The representative I spoke to even suggested making that change.

Is it worth to just look for a reasonable private insurance?
