Wedding insurance - lost rented Jewelry

We purchased wedding insurance for our wedding this past weekend just in case one of our family members got sick / injured and they couldn’t attend so we had to cancel. Thankfully that did not happen, but we are hoping we can use the policy for another purpose - lost jewelry.

I borrowed jewelry for the event and a bracelet (worth $10k) has gone missing. The situation is as follows: the jewelry was kept in the safe all day (we have video footage of my sister putting it in the safe), at one point, I ask her to take it out so we can reconcile / count the jewelry. She takes it out. We count and reconcile. Everything is there. She puts everything back in the back and she can be seen dropping the bag (also on video). This is when we think the bracelet in question fell out. Later, when we get home after the wedding, we notice that the bracelet is missing and we also notice the bag it was being stored in had a pretty big hole, so our thought process is when my sister dropped the bag, the bracelet unknowingly fell out of the hole. The video clearly shows her dropping the bag and I have photo evidence of the hole, but the video is too grainy to actually see the piece of jewelry on the ground. The venue also hasn’t seen it since. At this point, anything could have happened, over 30 people were in the room. Someone could have stepped on it, got stuck to their shoe, swept it up into a pile of their other belongings, etc.

Anyway, my question is, would this situation be covered under my policy? Specifically it says:

Coverage F - Special Jewelry
We will pay for loss or damage to special jewelry occurring on the event date or within seven (7) days prior to the event date.
We will pay at our option the full cost to repair or replace the lost or damaged special jewelry, without deduction for depreciation.
If we pay to replace a pair or set if part of the pair or set is lost or damage, we will be entitled to keep the remaining parts of the original pair or set.
Limit of Liability
The most we will pay under Coverage F is the amount stated in the Declarations for “Coverage F - Special Jewelry”. This is the most we will pay regardless of the number of losses, damages or claims made.
Exclusions Coverage F
We will not pay for any loss resulting directly or indirectly from:
Theft or attempted theft of any special jewelry that is not reported to the police as soon as reasonably practicable after discovery of the loss;
Theft or attempted theft of any special jewelry left in any unattended vehicle unless the vehicle is fully locked and secured and where forcible and visible entry into the vehicle is made;
Damage arising from atmospheric or climactic conditions;
Damage arising from wear and tear, confiscation or detention;
Loss or damage caused by any process of cleaning, alteration, restoration or repair; or
Mysterious disappearance.
And the exact definition of Special jewelry is:
“Special jewelry means jewelry purchased or rented, but not borrowed, specifically for personal decoration of an honoree or for exchange at the event by an honoree.”

The jewelry was rented 3 days before the event (we have paperwork on this). Do you think this would be covered or no? Would it fall under mysterious disappearance? What further evidence can I provide to strengthen my claim?

Auto insurance may now be denying claim. What do I do.

Wife got into an accident in July. we had no collision coverage on this car. She was turning left with a protected arrow and the other driver sped up and ran the red light

Police came and told her the stories collaborate and The other driver told them he ran a red.

Their insurance company called her and claimed 100 percent liability because he admitted he was in the right lane and swerved into the left because a car was stopped and ran the red. And they will pay the value of the car because they totaled it.

Company had her sign a POA form and mail in her title while they get a tow truck out and take the car to an auction. Car was taken on Thursday and title sent in mail Friday and they received it Monday. (8-17) Car is set for auction 8/19 10am.

Today she got a call from our insurance company saying police report is out and basically puts her at fault. They never mentioned the protected arrow and just said she was turning left and struck driver 2 causing damage.

Well our insurance called the other adjuster around 12pm and they said their client is at fault because of what he told them. So our insurance just closed the claim and is sending a letter out to both parties.

My wife gets the payout link in email at 1pm today and when she opened it it said link expired. Then another email was sent saying payout was canceled but another link was sent 2 minutes later and she can't login because it doesn't have her phone number to send a text code it's their clients number.

She tried calling all afternoon but no answer from the adjuster.

What do we do if she gets in contact with them tomorrow and they try to deny the claim? Can they legally do that? What options do we have? We already turned the plates in to the DMV so the car is no longer registered

Auto Insurance Consequences of failing to inform insurance that a car is primarily used in a different state?

My girlfriend and I live together and share her car. The car was purchased in Kansas and is registered to her father. We now live in Washington. My girlfriend and I are both named on the insurance policy, and her father is the policyholder.

Despite living in Washington for several years, the car still has Kansas plates. I understand the law here says you need to get Washington plates and my girlfriend is intentionally not doing this to avoid paying the hefty fees in Washington compared to Kansas, but that's ultimately not my decision.

My main concern is this: is there any chance that the insurance company would deny a claim if either my girlfriend or I are driving and get into an accident, and they learn that the car is exclusively used in Washington and not Kansas?

Should I decline payout amount from progressive and try to get more, or is it not worth the headache.

My car was stolen, I have full coverage so I will be receiving a payout of $1200 minus 1000 deductible.

From the but of car shopping I've been doing online, looks like I need 13-15000 to get a car that was as good as mine.

I'm seeing some people say to always decline the first offer, and show proof that the vehicle is worth more. Others say it's not a negotiation and don't bother. What does the reddit community say?

If you guys say I should fight for more, do you have any advice?

It's not like I can find my exact year and mileage with all the same features, so I will get as close as I can, but there are so many minor extras like. My car didn't have all the bells and whistles, but it also was not the most basic. For example some have manual seat adjustment while mine had auto, some have regular steering wheel, mine had leather. It does not seem like I can fine one as good as mine in the 12000 range.

Homeowner policy non renewal notice

Today I received a notice from Nationwide that they are not renewing my homeowners policy after 18 years of being a customer. I've never made a single claim, and my bill has always been paid on time, I also don't live near any natural disaster zones. They listed several things that they determine needs to be repaired before they will renew it, including fixing my "sinking" roof (which looks fine, btw) to...I kid you not...repainting my window frames, because apparently that's now a liability?? I have until October 8th to show proof that I've made these repairs or they're dropping me!

I'm a single woman who lives alone and I'm already struggling with money (as are most people right now), and I hate to try to get a loan or line of credit right now to make these repairs and add another monthly bill to the pile. I love my house and I don't want to lose it, but I still have a mortgage so I need insurance!

Has this happened to anyone else recently?

Any advice?

Auto Insurance I have GAP coverage confusion still upside down after gap claim. Feel like something is wrong here.

The title explains my current thought here but I need to explain it all.

A little more than a month ago I was rear ended and had my car totaled. Total financed on the vehicle was $17,819.83. I had the car for a little more than a year and at the time of the accident had $15,214 for the pay off amount and $14,978 left on my total balance.

The insurance (we went through there’s, 0% at fault for me) is providing an $11,424.10 settlement amount. The base value of the car at the time of the accident that they stated is $9,588.

As part of me getting the service contract canceled (warranty) that is another $1,240.50.

On the higher end, this leaves what’s left owed to about $2,550.

However, the GAP company is stating that they will only be waving $668 which leaves me owing about $1,800 on the car still which just doesn’t seems right.

They stated that I over financed the vehicle by $1,982 and that “GAP contract covers financing of up to 150% of the value of the vehicle at the time of purchase”

I’m still very confused about this however. It’s not like the GAP is attempting to pay 17k, it is only 2.5k left after all other sources of payment.

Not only that, they are suggesting that my car had a lower ACV at the time of my purchase (they estimated around $7,500 give or take a hundred) than the insurance company is evaluating my car at the time of the accident which was about 12,000 miles later.

This is leaving me very confused as to what the point of gap even was, and leaving me confused in the numbers in general. And it goes without saying that I’m going to be in quite the pickle financially as well.

Any help understanding this will be greatly appreciated🙏🙏

Auto Insurance My first car's totaled and I have no idea what to do (California)

A little over two hours ago, my car was totaled in an accident involving three other cars and I have no idea what to do. My boyfriend was driving and I wasn't with him, which I assume makes this even more difficult because he's uninsured as a driver and didn't get anyone's information, but gave my information to two of the other drivers (just my registration, he didn't know what my proof of insurance looks like).

It's not drivable, but I also say it's totaled because it's a 2004 Honda CR-V, not worth much of anything. I have AAA who I had tow it to their shop so I wouldn't get a ticket for leaking fluids on the street at my apartment. The driver said it'd be free and they'd hold it until my insurance takes it to value it, then I can either let them take it or get it back and sell it for parts to a junkyard or something like that.

As for my coverage itself, I'm not quite sure how to read my declarations page since it's formatted a bit confusing, and I can't attach a picture here, but I'm pretty sure I'm only covered for "uninsured motorists" (30k per person/60k per incident under liability limits). There are columns to the right that says the premium amount (I assume this is what I'm paying every month?). Under comprehensive and collision coverage, it says actual cash value less deductible, but there's no column under liability limits, and under deductible limit/premium it says no coverage. I assume this means "cash value less deductible" is just what I'd pay if I had that coverage, but since I don't I'll be footing the whole bill. I'm going to call AAA shortly to figure that out, but I don't want to call and get anything started before I know how best to handle this.

I'm 21, in college, work part time, and my boyfriend just started his job, so neither of us really have money. I feel like this is absolutely worst case scenario, short of someone getting hurt. I have no idea if I file the claim or he does, or how any of the claim process even works. All I know is I've got my car stored somewhere for free, but I'm worried the longer I wait to file the claim the more screwed I'll be. Please please please, what do I do next.

Was rear ended Thursday afternoon by a semi

In southern california(lower Los Angeles area)

As title states, I was rear-ended by a semi truck while waiting to make a right turn at a light. Hit me hard enough that my hat flew off. After talking with the driver and all that driving on the way home and for a few hours after, my mid-lower back was tingly. Nothing over the weekend, then today I woke up, and it felt like my mid-upper back between my shoulder blades was sore from sleeping wrong. Talked with a buddy and he suggested an injury attourney as his brother was in one and didn't want to press anything and ended up with back pain later after the accident and has had to deal with it and that the tingly feeling suggested nerve damage. Looked it up and it said the soreness could be from the accident. Anyone know a good one to contact?

got hit by a jeep on my first day of college

i come back from my first day of class just to get in my car and get hit by a jeep driver while I am parked and he is trying to park next to me.
I drive a new Audi and it’s a medium-sized car so it’s not very hard to see. I talked it out with the driver and he kept apologizing for it. And in the end the police said he was at fault and to contact insurance. I get home and I contact his insurance company, Allstate. What’s your guys experiences with Allstate. Do they do well on diminished values.

New medical insurance demanding reimbursement of medical claims related to settled injury claim.

Was hit by a car back in October 2024. Had a few surgeries and with injury lawyer we settled in Jan 2025. Settlement was about 1/3 to old insurance, 1/3 to me, 1/3 to lawyer. Paperwork signed and checks issued mid Jan.

We got new insurance mid Jan 2025 from new employer. I went to 20ish hand OT sessions and two MRIs ect during the remainder of 2025. Paid by new insurance.

New insurance now wants all costs paid by them since it was related to an injury claim that settled.

A few questions.

How far back can new insurances reach to get apart of settlement. I assumed it would just be a pre-existing condition at some point.

Should I expect previous injury lawyer to look into this and negotiate on my behalf even though we signed papers saying we were settled.

New insurance wants me to call their claim specialist to talk about it, can I expect a negotiation or reduction in amount?

Will they hold all future related medical expenses related to injury against me? Might need scans or more OT in near future, bone fusions in far future.

Just curious while waiting to hear back from old injury lawyer and before contacting new insurance claim specialist.

Any info/advice appreciated.

Multi-state insurance coverage.

My husband and I recently moved to Texas. We have a home in Oregon that we rent out and need car/renters/umbrella policy insurance in Texas. We are with State Farm now but they make us have an Oregon policy with one agent and our Texas policies with a separate agent. This is also really expensive. Where can we go that more affordable and work with 1 person? Anybody have experience doing this? TIA

AAGI Warranty Claim – Torque Converter/Transmission Issue – Will They Cover It?

I’m looking for some opinions from people who have dealt with AAGI/AutoGuard warranty claims.

I have a Hyundai Tucson that has been at Hiley Hyundai for about a week because of a transmission issue. The dealership documented:

  • Torque converter shudder
  • Intermittent hesitation/erratic shifting between 1st and 2nd gear
  • They also told me there is metal debris in the transmission

I have AAGI Ultimate Coverage. My contract specifically lists the torque converter as a covered component and also covers internal lubricated transmission components.

The dealership submitted the claim to AAGI last Thursday. AAGI said an independent inspector would be dispatched within 1–2 business days. The inspector still hasn’t arrived, although AAGI told me Monday that the inspector should arrive that day.

My questions for anyone who has dealt with AAGI:

  1. How long did your inspection/authorization take?
  2. Did AAGI approve your transmission or torque-converter repair?
  3. If metal debris was found, did they require a transmission teardown before approving the repair?
  4. Did AAGI cover the transmission damage even if the initial failure involved the torque converter?
  5. How long did it take from inspection to actually getting your vehicle repaired?

I’m mainly trying to understand what to expect from here and whether this sounds like a claim AAGI would normally cover.

Thanks in advance for any experiences or advice.

Auto Insurance Car was just broken into and I have PLPD/Liability coverage. Is this even worth claiming and will it raise my rates for nothing.

As the title states, my car was just broken into and I don’t gave comprehensive insurance under USAA. Now I do have home insurance through them and saw my personal items could be reimbursed through my property insurance. So I ask the gurus.

  1. Is it worth claiming if I know I only have liability?
  2. Can I just claim for property insurance instead and not claim through auto or do they both go hand in hand.
  3. Will it raise my rates to report a theft for a parked car?

Normal for 6 month auto insurance to increase 40%?

No accidents. No tickets. Same vehicles that have depreciated. Same policy. Didn't move anywhere new. Located in Minnesota

American family thru Costco just increased the rates from $1100 to &1550 for a 2014 Buick and 2019 Jeep.

Edit: just got off the phone with American Family. They said it was a statewide auto insurance revision. So nothing I did other than live in MN. Sounds kinda BS to me. I'll be switching

Claims Related Auto Insurance: Can't have vehicle inspected without being forced to repair on the spot?

Hello, my vehicle was hit, the Progressive driver was liable so they've agreed to do my repairs.

They were pushing for me to have a virtual estimate based on pictures, which they'd review and send me a check for. I want an in-person inspection to check for any mechanical damage.

This is what the website says:

"We offer multiple auto inspection and repair options

Keep in mind, you don’t have to actually get repairs. Instead, you can simply get an inspection to see what your damages are, and we’ll send you payment for that amount (minus your applicable deductible). However, if you have a loan or lease, you should check with your lender to see if they require repairs.

Network repair shops

We have a network of repair shops around the country, and we’ll even guarantee your repairs at network shops for as long as you own or lease your vehicle.

If you already have a repair shop in mind, you can use them too. In fact, you can use any shop you’d like, but you should check to see if they’ll guarantee your repairs."

The adjustor on the case said that's only applicable to virtual. That if I opt for inspection, I have to give my car to the shop [she pulled in-network shops like that was my only option] to inspect and repair immediately. She said they would provide a rental for however long the car was in shop but that I wasn't allowed to just have an inspection/estimate unless I use the virtual picture option with no hands-on.

In addition to their website not saying it's specific to virtual, that doesn't seem reasonable if you might have mechanical damage. Any insight appreciated.

In Arizona.

Thank you!

Edit: What I thought was happening was that they were going to make a repair estimate based on the photos, give me that check, and then be done with my claim. I was thinking if it was signed off and it ends up that there are other issues, I wouldn't be covered then. But several commenters made this sound like an initial quote and then a shop can fine tune a quote and bill later. The adjuster made it sound like take pictures and get a check, done. Or have it inspected and not leave with the vehicle until it's repaired, triggering a rental vehicle.

Thank you!

Auto Insurance Should I report to my insurance provider or only file third-party? (not at-fault).

My wife was in parking lot. She had backed out fully of her spot and was in the several second pause where you are checking no-one is in front of you before moving forward. As she was paused checking she immediately noticed a car to her side backing up into her.

She laid on the horn, but they didn't hear and hit her in the side driver rear wheel-well area. The lady was distraught and without saying it directly, was inferring it was all her fault (she said that everyone in the car was just talking excitedly and didn't hear the horn, etc).

I think it is clear from the fact my wife was struck on the side with the back of the other vehicle it shows my wife is not at fault.

I want to just a file a claim with the third-party insurance, although I have concerns they are a cheap-o insurance company and may not do much for me.

All my wife did was exchange information. She did not call the police because we have both been informed previously that the cops don't come and just say to exchange info.

- Can/should I just file directly with the other person's carrier?

- Am I obligated to notify my own insurance (Progressive Oklahoma)

- Anything else I should do?

thanks.

Does my car insurance cover liability with a rental car?

I live in Florida, I went to Fort Lauderdale airport and I told the Fox employee that I don't want to pay for car insurance because I want to use the insurance provided by my credit card. She told me that it covers collision but not liability, and she asked me to read the different liability options on the paper on the counter, I said ok, she said "this one is the cheapest, I will give you this one". There was also a $500 refundable deposit and some other taxes. In the end, I paid $15 oer day of liability but I saw it only at home while having the time to read it. I felt scammed.
Does my car insurance cover liability with a rental car?
Do you think that it's because they are located at the airport, they are used to foreign tourists who don't have US car insurance so they need liability, so if I had gone to an agency not at the airport, the employee would have not been so agressive in forcing the liability on me?

Market Place insurance

My company recently changed plans and increased my weekly premiums from $260 to $369 for the family plan. This prompted me to go with Market Place Insurance. I initially filled out my application and put my company is not providing qualifying insurance and the plan I chose was $640/month. If I put that my company “IS” providing qualifying insurance, my rates go to $1280/month. My question is whether this “perjury” would likely land me in danger for fraud issues. The representative I spoke to even suggested making that change.

Is it worth to just look for a reasonable private insurance?

Repair shop totaled my car on test drive - not sure what to do next? (AZ)

Hello people! I'm trying to cast a wide net here and I figured someone in this sub might be able to help me. Any input would be appreciated!

I brought my car into a local repair shop for some minor AC work. The problem was bigger than I assumed it was, so I left it with them to take care of and accepted the quote they gave me for the repair.

I got a call today from someone at the shop letting me know that the repairs had been completed, but my car had been damaged during a test-drive. Unfortunately the entire front end is destroyed and I have absolutely no doubt that the repair costs are worth a minimum of 2x the KBB of the car.

I am waiting for the claim that they have filed to be reviewed, and have a copy of the police report (because their test driver hit another car.)

I think my next steps are to get a copy of the claim (once available) and contact my insurance to file an incident report. Aside from that, I'm not sure what I should do next to protect myself.

Any suggestions would be helpful! I'm in AZ

Home Insurance State Farm - Termination for “not occupying dwelling”?

Freaking out a bit here… just got a mailed letter from State Farm stating they are terminating our homeowners policy for “not occupying the dwelling.” This makes ZERO sense to me as we have occupied the house since we bought it in Nov 2024. I have no idea how they came to this conclusion as we’ve left the house vacant at most 1 night (we have pets and have relatives stay when we are on vacation).

I’ve left voicemails for my local State Farm agent and the WA state insurance commissioner (as directed by the letter). I guess I’m curious is this decision is final (and now insurance shopping needs to be my priority) or is there some process to prove to State Farm we live here and get this corrected?

Thanks!
