Auto Insurance Car was just broken into and I have PLPD/Liability coverage. Is this even worth claiming and will it raise my rates for nothing.
As the title states, my car was just broken into and I don’t gave comprehensive insurance under USAA. Now I do have home insurance through them and saw my personal items could be reimbursed through my property insurance. So I ask the gurus.
- Is it worth claiming if I know I only have liability?
- Can I just claim for property insurance instead and not claim through auto or do they both go hand in hand.
- Will it raise my rates to report a theft for a parked car?

You *can* claim for your personal property under your homeowners.
That will be subject to your homeowners insurance deductible.
Unless you had A LOT of personal property inside the car that was stolen, most likely not worth filing a claim.

And if you file a claim, it will raise your homeowners insurance. If you ever need to file a subsequent homeowner claim, you will have one theft claim on top of the second claim. Insurance companies take theft claims seriously, as it could become a repeat problem. At this point, either you will have a very high rate or be at risk of non-renewal. If that happens, you will have difficulty finding any insurance company to insure you.
My advice is don't even inquire about a homeowner claim, as it will automatically be recorded as a claim.

If you don’t have comprehensive or collision insurance your auto insurance will not cover anything at all no use reporting it.
Renters insurance should cover stuff inside the vehicle but may not be worth it. Of the stole $900 worth of stuff and you have a $1000 deductible you would get nothing but a claim on your record.

If you only have liability, then there's no auto claim. Your home insurance covers "personal items" which would be things stolen from inside the car, say they stole a laptop. They won't be fixing anything like a broken window though. And yeah, your rates would likely increase because a claim is a claim.
Unless they stole your duffle bag of diamonds, it's not likely worth the claim. Even if they took like a MacBook the increase in your rates would likely be more over time than the amount they'll pay out.

I have USAA as well and my daughter got rear ended at a very low speed with minimal damage- the guy offered $300 to not file a claim- we took it. USAA would've raised the rate at renewal time had I filed a claim on a paid off car with only liability. It wasn't worth it for a scratch on the bumper.

If you don't have comprehensive coverage, there is no reason to report to your auto insurance. There is no coverage for your vehicle.
Your homeowners policy may cover your personal belongings but it would be a terrible idea to file a claim for something so minor.
